MSM Have Described Obama’s Pandering Speeches As Lincoln-esque, Reagan-esque, And Now Kennedy-esque

Via The  Weekly Standard Blog:Robert Kagan: Obama Delivered ‘a Kennedy-esque Speech’:

Robert Kagan roundly praised President Obama for his speech last night on America’s intervention in Libya:

With his speech tonight, President Obama placed himself in a great tradition of American presidents who have understood America’s special role in the world. He thoroughly rejected the so-called realist approach, extolled American exceptionalism….(blablablbala).

Take some Dramamine and continue reading…

In case you haven’t noticed,  Obama has been promoting “American exceptionalism” in his speeches, lately “more than any other President”, the MSM is eager to inform us.

They want you to forget Obama’s true opinion on “American exceptionalism” was offered early on in his Presidency: “I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism, and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism”. That statement along with his worldwide apology tour, created a backlash that probably contributed to a drop in his popularity in the polls.

All other statements he makes on American exceptionalism should be viewed as pandering geared toward 2012..

That was  the case after Obama dissed the flag pin during the 2008 Presidential election. Remember this?:

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says he doesn’t wear an American flag lapel pin because it has become a substitute for “true patriotism” since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

It wasn’t long after the backlash that ensued, that he was seen everywhere on the campaign trail, proudly wearing his flag pin.

And then there was the case of Obama’s serial omission of “by our creator” when speaking of the “inalienable rights” cited in the Declaration of Independence”. After that caused a backlash on conservative blogs, last year – whoops, there it is! Back in his speeches where it belongs.

For most of Obama’s first two years in the White House, he eschewed church. After a poll came out showing that only a third of Americans believe Obama is a Christian, he reversed course, making several visits to church with his family in a short period of time, which an obliging media covered without cynicism.

After the 2010 election blowout which can only be viewed as  a referendum on Obama’s far left policies, he let it be known that he was reading Ronald Reagan’s biography and conspicuously  signaled that he wanted to be  compared to Reagan.

It wasn’t long before the media obliged, with outlet after outlet cooing that his State of the Union speech was “Reaganesque”.

Before that he was “Lincolnesque”.

Obama rides the rails to DC, packing nation’s hope

Invoking hope and history, President-elect Barack Obama rolled into the capital city Saturday night pledging to help bring the nation “a new Declaration of Independence” and promising to rise to the stern challenges of the times. He kicked off a four-day inaugural celebration with a daylong rail trip, retracing the path Abraham Lincoln took in 1861.

Feh. They may as well start chiseling a fourth fifth head on Mount Rushmore and get it over with.

  1. MSM has made themselves irrelevant. They offer no news, no reasoned opinion and are just shills for the White House. The MSM is not needed.

  2. Kennedy-esque? Fifth head? More and more people are going to be heading for a fifth, like Teddy Kennedy did so often.

  3. I seem to recall, early on in Stinky’s “presidency”, there were several attempts to introduce bills in congress to actually have Ol’B.O.’s ugly mug chisled into Rushmore. I can’t recall the details, (courtesy of a merciful stroke I had in August), but my wife — less obsessed than I — remembers me whistling like a tea-kettle over something like that.
Of course, Stinky’s such a chisler, he could do the work himself… and such a Narcissus he’d probably *want* to!
Forgive the attempts at humor: when the choice is to laugh or cry, I choose to laugh.

  5. The more comes out of this administration, the more I am reminded of that HBO flick, Second Civil War: The President (priceless, Phil Hartman) had to be kicked into different presidential “modes” by his publicist, in order to get any action out of him, and NOTHING was done without calculating how it would affect his polling and chances of reelection. Scary but seemingly true, life imitates art.

Thankfully, at the end of the movie, the president had to resign. I won’t hold my breath, hoping we are that lucky. I think we’re stuck with this turd on a stick.
