Obama’s Worst Gaffe Yet

BlackFive caught this:

The President addressing the 10th Mountain Division today at Fort Drum:

“First time I saw 10th Mountain Division, you guys were in southern Iraq. When I went back to visit Afghanistan, you guys were the first ones there. I had the great honor of seeing some of you because a comrade of yours, Jared Monti, was the first person who I was able to award the Medal of Honor to who actually came back and wasn’t receiving it posthumously.

As we all know, SSG Sal Giunta, of the 173rd Airborne, was the first living recipient (2011) of the MOH who fought in Iraq/Afganistan. SFC Jared Monti, 10th Mountain Division, was KIA in Afghanistan in 2006. He was posthumously awarded the MOH by Obama in 2009.

The creator of this video noticed that in the span of 40 seconds, Obama managed to refer to himself 6 times, but was unable to remember the name of the living  soldier to whom he gave the medal.

Good lord…..Not good.

Andy at AoSHQ noticed the same thing about the self referrals:

“Throughout my service, first as a senator and then as a presidential candidate and then as a President, I’ve always run into you guys. And for some reason it’s always in some rough spots.

First time I saw 10th Mountain Division, you guys were in southern Iraq. When I went back to visit Afghanistan, you guys were the first ones there. I had the great honor of seeing some of you because a comrade of yours, Jared Monti, was the first person who I was able to award the Medal of Honor to who actually came back and wasn’t receiving it posthumously.

By the way, since when is being a presidential candidate, considered service?

This longer video,  via Gateway Pundit shows the troops’ reaction after the speech. Although they remained stoic through the gaffe, no one jumped up to to shake Captain Gutsy’s hand when he was through. No one even stood up. They remained glued to their seats and clapped tepidly.

Fast forward to the end – it sure looks like a diss to me:

After his “gutsy call” to take out Bin Laden, you would think he’d get a hero’s welcome, no?

Compare that to the warm receptions Bush got through the years when he visited the troops, even at the very end of his term when almost everyone else had turned against him.

Here’s footage from a speech Bush gave at Ft. Irwin, CA, April 2007,  where the troops responded to him with a standing ovation, fast forward to 1:20:

The troops are a good judge of character.

Couldn’t resist…

The troop compare/contrast different Presidents/different corps video from March 1, 2009:

Linked by Michelle Malkin in Buzzworthy, and The Sundries Shack,  thanks!

  1. Does anyone REALLY expect this cretin of a president to actually care enough about a soldier-hero to have genuine feelings or memories?

Everything this man says is calculated to make him appear competent and caring, it doesn’t need to be true or accurate.

  4. It’s quite easy to explain, really. Bush was talking to a corps of soldiers.

Our beloved leader and dictator was talking to a “corpse.”

  6. How could we have come to this? For the first time in my adult life, I’m ashamed of my country…

  7. In contrast, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin never failed to receive a mammoth ovation when she visited the troops overseas or stopped by one of the various military bases located in Alaska. The fact that she looks rather freaking hawt in camouflage pants and a T shirt is probably not relevant.

  8. I am certain that the use of the word “service” by Obama was carefully focus group tested and chosen because of the subliminal halo effect it has. In our country it is used most often in context with military service and sacrifice – neither of which Obama has any experience with in his life. It is just another in a continuing vaudeville act in the run-up to the 2012 election by Obama and his wife to ingratiate themselves with Americans who genuinely support our service men and women. This transparent fraud is nauseating.

  10. Obama’s slipping. He forgot to mention his “service” in the Office of the President Elect. The non-existent office with an official looking seal.
