Joseph Curl of The Washington Times asks the question – “Does Obama really want to win?”
There are only two ways to look at the Obama re-election campaign right now: Either the upstart candidate who stunned the world when he defeated the Clinton machine to capture the Democratic nomination three years ago has lost every bit of that massive mojo, or the bruised and battered president, after three years in office, just doesn’t want another spin in the Oval Office.
How else to explain the nonstop missteps, the stammering and stuttering campaign, not to mention the brazen attacks on American voters, who, he has said, have “fallen behind,” lost their “ambition and imagination,” gotten “lazy” and “a bit soft” – this is a guy seeking the support of America?!
For the past 36 months, Americans have hoped for the best. But it hasn’t turned out that way. In fact, some argue that Mr. Obama actually made the economy worse – the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said last week that his 2009 stimulus package may have sustained as few as 700,000 jobs at its peak and that over the long run it will be a net drag on the economy.
But then, this. The president, traveling the country purportedly to look for votes in 2012, decided to lecture the American people on their shortcomings: fat, lazy, stupid. And now, he’s channeling – of all people – Jimmy Carter.
Given all of the President’s missteps, Curl is leaning toward the ” he just doesn’t want another spin in the Oval Office” side.
Chris Matthews recently bellowed, “he (Obama) has not said one thing about what he would do in the second term.” Curl assures us that is “because he doesn’t really want one. And Americans seem ready to oblige.”
Yea! The end of an error.
And yet – at the possibility Obama could step aside to let Hillary run in his stead, (as some are suggesting), Curl said: “Of course, Mr. Obama’s hubris will not allow such a move.” His hubris would not allow the Hillary ploy, but it would somehow allow for his crushing defeat in 2012?
I don’t think so.
All the signs I’m seeing say Obama is going for broke. He wants to win, and he wants to win badly. He’s in constant campaign mode – demagoguing instead of leading – a strategy Charles Krauthammer called “brilliant” during the debt ceiling squabbles, last summer:
President Obama assailed the lesser mortals who inhabit Congress for not having seriously dealt with a problem he had not dealt with at all, then scolded Congress for being even less responsible than his own children. They apparently get their homework done on time.
My compliments. But the Republican House did do its homework. It’s called a budget. It passed the House on April 15. The Democratic Senate has produced no budget. Not just this year, but for two years running. As for the schoolmaster-in-chief, he produced two 2012 budget facsimiles: The first (February) was a farce and the second (April) was empty, dismissed by the CBO as nothing but words untethered to real numbers.
Obama has run disastrous annual deficits of around $1.5 trillion while insisting for months on a “clean” debt-ceiling increase, (i.e. with no budget cuts at all). Yet suddenly he now rises to champion major long-term debt reduction, scorning any suggestions of a short-term debt-limit deal as can-kicking.
The flip-flop is transparently political. A short-term deal means another debt-ceiling fight before Election Day, a debate that would put Obama on the defensive and distract from the Mediscare campaign to which the Democrats are clinging to save them in 2012.
A clever strategy it is: Do nothing (see above); invite the Republicans to propose real debt reduction first; and when they do — voting for the Ryan budget and its now infamous and courageous Medicare reform — demagogue them to death.
And then up the ante by demanding Republican agreement to tax increases. So: First you get the GOP to seize the Left’s third rail by daring to lay a finger on entitlements. Then you demand the GOP seize the Right’s third rail by violating its no-tax pledge. A full-spectrum electrocution. Brilliant.
We see Obama’s non-stop fund-raising tour, his “dinner with Barack” raffle tickets for $3.00 a pop, the “Made in the USA” Mugs and Tee Shirts sale and even fund-raising through intimidation:
The Obama campaign is testing a new approach to fundraising, blasting out emails that ever-so-gently shame supporters into donating.
Before the end of the third-quarter fundraising deadline last month, the campaign sent around specially tailored messages to those on their email list who hadn’t yet contributed to President Obama’s 2012 reelection fund. Campaign Manager Jim Messina urged them to chip in, by pointing out how many of their neighbors had already done so.
And surely we haven’t already forgotten the President’s lavish and unseemly birthday/fund-raising bash, last August?
Herman Cain has spent his life living and working all over the country — Indiana, Georgia, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Washington, D.C. — but never in Chicago.So it’s curious that all the sexual harassment allegations against Cain emanate from Chicago: home of the Daley machine and Obama consigliere David Axelrod.Suspicions had already fallen on Sheila O’Grady, who is close with David Axelrod and went straight from being former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley’s chief of staff to president of the Illinois Restaurant Association (IRA), as being the person who dug up Herman Cain’s personnel records from the National Restaurant Association (NRA).The Daley-controlled IRA works hand-in-glove with the NRA. And strangely enough, Cain’s short, three-year tenure at the NRA is evidently the only period in his decades-long career during which he’s alleged to have been a sexual predator.
Hispanic voters are a key voter bloc as Mr. Obama seeks re-election next year, but many of them felt he broke his promise to them to work on legislation once he took office. Thursday’s move already was paying dividends as Hispanic advocacy groups praised the steps.
As Krauthammer says, “Everything he does is about campaigning. He gave up the governance phase of this term about three months ago.”
Curl may be confusing Obama’s purported lack of political ambition with his oft-noted “depression”, and the fact that he’s not a “people person”, (as beltway insiders now openly attest .) Obama is a narcissistic Marxist with a sad, and dysfunctional background – of course he’s a little unstable — or seriously disturbed according to psychologist, Robin from Berkeley:
…Obama will not change. He will not learn from his mistakes. He will not grow and mature from on-the-job experience. In fact, over time, Obama will likely become a more ferocious version of who he is today.
Why? Because this is a damaged person. Obama’s fate was sealed years ago growing up in his strange and poisonous family. Later on, his empty vessel was filled with the hateful bile of men like Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers.
Obama will not evolve; he will not rise to the occasion; he will not become the man he was meant to be. This is for one reason and one reason alone:
He is not capable of it.
If that’s not enough to put a chill up your spine, there’s also this: Obama likes to tell his fund-raising audiences that he’s only about 60% done enacting the “transformational change” he promised us in 2008:
“A lot of the things that we promised we’d do, we’ve done,” Obama said, citing healthcare reform and ending the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy preventing gay men and women from serving openly in the U.S. military.
“I carry around a little checklist, and I think we’ve got about 60 percent of it done so far. And that’s not bad for three years, because I need another five.”
Any thoughts that he’s not serious about winning in 2012 is wishful thinking at best.
PJ Media: For 2012, Be Wary of Obama’s Ties to Corrupt Project Vote The ACORN affiliate has been repeatedly convicted of voter fraud.
Despite the corrupt and fraudulent activities of ACORN and Project Vote, President Obama has already dubbed the voter registration part of his 2012 campaign as … “Project Vote.” This is not surprising, given his history with Project Vote.
As an alert reader of PJ Media discovered, former state Senator Barack Obama made a great deal of his relationship with Project Vote when he was running for Congress. He ran a one-minute radio ad about utility blackouts in which he bragged about having “headed up Project Vote, registering over 100,000 minority voters.” He ran a second radio ad about his taking on the health insurance industry where he again boasted of “working as a community organizer” and turning down high-paying corporate jobs after law school “to become a civil rights lawyer” and to “head up” Project Vote.
Obama was in on the ground floor when Project Vote was organized, and was proud of it in 2004. Project Vote certainly returned the favor: all of the evidence indicates that Project Vote did everything it could to get Barack Obama elected in 2008, abusing its supposed nonprofit, nonpartisan status.
The testimony of former employees like Anita MonCrief also reveals that ACORN and Project Vote’s misfeasance is a longstanding problem. A question that has never been answered is how much Obama knew about (and was involved in) Project Vote’s misdeeds and internal policies when, as his ads claim, “he headed up” the organization.
Project Vote’s long history of lawlessness does not seem to have embarrassed the president, given he is using the same name for his election campaign’s voter registration project. The real question is whether Project Vote will get away with the same kind of abuses in the 2012 election, and whether the president’s campaign will be a willing partner.
Of course Liberals will tell you that voter fraud is just a figment of right-wing imaginations, so nothing to see here.
