GOP Follies: Romney’s Flip Flops and Cain’s Flame

First the flip flops – this four minute long compilation is exhaustive and damning, and precisely why I’ve never cottoned to this guy:

As for Cain – ugh – game over, dude, GAME OVAH: Georgia Woman Claims 13-Year Affair with Herman Cain:

– An Atlanta businesswoman is breaking her silence, claiming she has been involved in a 13-year-long affair with Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, FOX 5 senior I-Team reporter Dale Russell sat down with Ginger White, who had a story to tell.

“I’m not proud,” White told Russell. “I didn’t want to come out with this. I did not.”

White was worried a political tsunami was headed her way. So, she decided to head it off, by confessing she was involved in a 13-year-long affair with presidential hopeful Herman Cain.

“It was pretty simple,” White said. “It wasn’t complicated. I was aware that he was married. And I was also aware I was involved in a very inappropriate situation, relationship.”

Ginger White says she met Herman Cain in the late 90s in Louisville, Kentucky, when as president of the National Restaurant Association, he made a presentation. She was impressed. She says they shared drinks afterwards and he invited her back to his hotel room.

“’I’d like to see you again,’” White said Cain told her. “’You are beautiful to me, and I would love for us to continue this friendship.’”

She says in his hotel room, he pulled out a calendar and invited her to meet him in Palm Springs. She accepted, and she says the affair began.

“He made it very intriguing,” White told FOX 5. “It was fun. It was something that took me away from my humdrum life at the time. And it was exciting.”

She says he gave her his newly-published book, Leadership is Common Sense, and he wrote: “Miss G, you have already made a ‘big difference!’ Stay focused as you pursue your next destination.”

She says during the next 13 years, he would fly her to cities where he was speaking and he lavished her with gifts. She says they often stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead and dined at The Four Seasons restaurant. She says he never harassed her, never treated her poorly, and was the same man you see on the campaign trail.

“Very much the same, very much confident, very much sure of himself,” White said, describing Cain. “Very arrogant in a playful sometimes way. Very, ah — Herman Cain loves Herman Cain.”

When his new book, CEO of SELF, came out in 2001, she says Cain once again autographed it for her writing, “Friends are forever! Everything else is a bonus.”

When asked if it was fair to say the relationship is going on even now, White said, “I think it is safe to say that after this interview, that will be the end of it. Yes, we have a friendship now.”

Cain’s statement about the affair, here.

That’s enough for me. Even though this was consensual, it puts all of his denials about his past alleged sexual misconduct into question as far as I’m concerned.

Gingrich should get a pretty decent bump out of this.

UPDATE:

Verum Serum has video of Cain responding to allegations of the affair on CNN.

I’m not impressed. I think at this point we should be thanking The Politico for getting the ball rolling on the vetting process for Cain, and those of us who slammed their writers for penning a “hit piece”  should be offering them our sincerest apologies. Yes, a double standard exists, but I’d rather know this stuff about our candidates before the general – not after.

UPDATE II:

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that this latest “eruption” also has a checkered past:

We received a phone tip from someone who knew Ginger White. That person claimed Ms. White was having an affair with Herman Cain. The tipster also called a number of other national media outlets who reached out to her. White told FOX 5, she felt trapped.

“I wanted to give my side, before it was thrown out there and made out to be something filthy,” said White. “Some people will look at this and say that is exactly what it is. I’m sorry for that.”

And so she talked. Before our interview, we checked into Ginger White’s background. We found she filed a sexual harassment claim against an employer in 2001. That case was settled.

We also found a bankruptcy filing nearly 23 years ago in Kentucky, and a number of eviction notices here in DeKalb County over the past six years. The most recent happened this month.

Ms. White says she has been unemployed, and she is a single mom with two kids struggling to make ends meet.

***

We also found a lawsuit filed by a former business partner, Kimberly Vay, who once sought a “stalking temporary protective order” against Ms. White for “repeated e-mails/texts threatening lawsuit and defamation of character.” The case was dismissed; but was followed by a libel lawsuit against Ms. White. A judge entered an order in favor of Kimberly Vay because Ms. White failed to respond to the lawsuit.

When asked why, under those circumstances, her claims against Cain should be believed, White said, “Because I admit it. Whatever happened with Kim happened. Just as there would make no sense for me to come out with these allegations against Herman if it absolutely wasn’t true.”

Her attorney, Ed Buckley, says she didn’t answer the lawsuit because she didn’t know about it, and she thought her business dispute had been settled with negotiations.

Ginger White says she expects to be scrutinized and attacked by Herman Cain and the media, but she felt she needed to tell her story before anyone else told it for her.

“I didn’t want to do this, but it was something I felt at the end of the day was the right thing to do,” said White. “Is it going to hurt a lot people? Yes. I’m sure I will be one of them.”

  1. As a Massachusetts resident I’m glad I got to see this video sponsored by the DNC. First and foremost even a moron can identify numerous out of context things portrayed in the video. Secondly why is the DNC coming out with this now? Why not wait? My guess is they know they’ll beat Newt handily and they have plenty in store for him but Romney is a problem. I heard almost every statement on that video when he said them and in context but more importantly I understood his position on different issues when he was running in Massachusetts in both elections and I’m a conservative. Even the Roe v. Wade thing is ridiculous. As a candidate for senate and governor what he was saying was that he would support the law of the land and sometimes we forget that Roe v. Wade IS the law of the land. What’s he going to do as governor, ban all abortions in Massachusetts? He flip-flopped on illegal immigration because he hired a landscape company? Come ON! The guy did more (and I know because I’m in law enforcement) to deter illegal immigration in Massachusetts than any other governor I can remember and boy did he have to fight to do it. He flip-flopped on TARP? No he didn’t. He supported it but was disappointed in how it was administered… as he and others have declared numerous times. If I support spending money for child care and find out it was spent for abortion clinics what am I? A flip-flopper? When has he ever supported “Obamacare”? Never. The makers of this video cleverly link the two as if they are the same which they are not. Not even close. One was done on a state level under a state constitution as a business oriented response to protect the medical profession and the other flips the proverbial twig to the medical profession and taxpayers which is federally unconstitutional.

The “tell” for me in this video was the obvious overuse of commentators’ comments in snipets. This video will play well with people that would never vote for a Republican and perhaps supporters of other candidates in the nomination process. You could do this type of video on every single candidate. Another “tell” is that they did it to Romney and they did it before the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary. Who do you think they’re the most worried about? Are they expecting people not to realize the flipflopping of our current President? What are they going say? Romney hired a landscape company who employed an illegal alien… while two of Obama’s relatives are living here illegally and breaking the law on our dime? Maybe because I’ve been a police detective for 36 years I cut through the bullshit and see what IS. The DNC PUT OUT THIS VIDEO! Why? Linking Romney and Obamacare shouldn’t be a problem in their eyes. Romney, according to the video, hires illegals, again they like illegals. TARP, stimulus, and pro-choice; the Dems are all for that stuff. Maybe they’re worried about the “character” of a boring Mormon family man and grandfather that has already been vetted for twenty years and the best they can come up with is that an illegal mowed his lawn without his knowledge while Obama entertains and appoints socialist and communist radicals and starts his career in the living room of a domestic terrorist. Yeah, that must be it.

As a conservative and a constitutionalist I would BEG all the conservatives, every Republican, every Independent, and right leaning patriotic Democrat not to fall for this crap that the DNC is throwing out. As a matter of fact we NOW KNOW, because of the evidence THEY have presented, when and how they presented it, who they fear most and who is the most likely to beat Obama. Obviously we should support whoever we want for whatever reason but if THIS VIDEO changes minds of Republican voters then we’re in trouble because we don’t have enough common sense to see what the Democratic machine is doing to our nomination process. I warned before this is how they were going to do it. They would give the appearance that they wanted Romney so that others would rise in the polls with conservatives, they would give the appearance that they were indifferent and in some cases even sympathetic with Romney so that another candidate would emerge as the “conservatives'” choice and then nail Romney just prior to the primary elections. The less electable candidate would “gain momentum” and get the nomination, Republicans and conservatives would be deflated when they saw the polls and realized that this country AS IT IS NOW is not going to vote the way we would vote nor are they as well informed, our candidate is destroyed on issues that are important to Independents and conservative Democrats. Combined with the voter fraud, paying people to cancel out our votes, and an Attorney General that won’t do anything about it we would have four more years of Obama as a lame duck with no worries of getting elected again.

As a staunch conservative I’m going to vote for Romney. He not only doesn’t worry me, I have confidence he’ll be one of our greatest Presidents. He’s the ONE, and I repeat the ONE candidate that will beat Obama BECAUSE of all the things contained in that revealing video. They can only hurt him in the primaries, with conservatives looking for Thomas Jefferson and the next George Washington, but not in the general election, and they know it. Do you think all these liberals coming out and rebuking Obama right now is by accident? So in the general election, if we were to believe this stuff, people like Chris Matthews and Ferrikan are going to support a Republican for President? They’re trying to lull us into believing that ANY one of our candidates can beat Obama and that’s just not the case. How about obvious attempts to pit one American against another and astroturfing the “Occupy” movement with MSM support? Right now there’s only one candidate that can beat Obama and it’s the guy they’re going after just before the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary so that he doesn’t gain the support of the party and Independents. And Quite frankly we’re falling for it hook, line, and sinker.

  2. I seriously doubt that the DNC is coming out with this video now in order to pave the way for Gingrich because Obama can beat him. I think the Republicans could nominate the mummy of Richard Nixon for 2012 and stand a better than even chance of winning the eleciton.

I think if Romney won the nominaiton, he would make a good President. That said, to claim that he is not a “flip – flopper” of the second highest order (Obama takes the cake) is risible. Nonetheless, the issues facing our nation and, indeed, the civilized world are so overwhelming at this moment that my vote in the primary will go to Gingrish. I think he the most intelligent conservative in the race, and while deeply flawed, the one most likely to rise to the challenges we face.

As to Herman Cain, I love his bona fides on jobs and the economy, but he lost my interest as a serious contender when he showed such a poor grasp of foreign policy issues – and did not apparently know what a “defined benefit plan” was.. And now he is having almost as many bimbo eruptions as Bill Clinton. Cain may not get my vote, but I bet he has the vote of every working comedian in our country sewn up.

  3. BR: Bullshit! Obama has a record now. He’s proven he is nothing but an empty suit and an economical moron. He’s shown what he really is. McCain was an aged career politician opposing an ideology, a generation of white guilt, and a hopeful nation that has since been slapped in the face…after a war weary nation tired of one political party. Romney is nothing like McCain. First of all he was a successful businessman, problem solver (without government intervention and taxpayer money), and has executive government experience. I’m tired of Romney being compared to McCain or being referred to as “another McCain”. Another McCain? It seems to me that Romney was the conservative candidate in the last election and Huckabee and McCain tagteamed him out of the nomination. Now he’s another McCain? If not for Sarah Palin McCain would have been landslided. Romney will win this election. The “strategy” is to get a majority of the electoral votes. McCain was a horrible candidate for that, Mitt can and will do it. Could McCain deliver Massachusetts, Michigan, or a few other swing states? Have we not had almost four years of misery under an extreme left wing idealogue with super majorities in both houses? What was McCain’s business experience? What are we assuming? All the Red States will vote for Obama? After the mess he’s caused? Do we feel better about Iran, Israel, or Europe? How about the Jewish vote? Do you think they’re going to vote for Obama again or someone who has business experience and supports Israel like Romney as opposed to Obama that has screwed Israel time after time? I’m a member of the Tea Party movement and I’m voting for Romney without hesitation. That’s another fallacy that’s being promoted by the Left. The “Tea Party” doesn’t like Romney is something I’ve heard time and time again. Who says? He wants to reduce government, reduce the deficit, and decrease taxes. He’s going to repeal Obamacare. Who is this unnamed spokesman for the Tea Party that doesn’t support Romney? It’s utter bullshit. So the Tea Party, which is not an official party but a citizen movement that wants fiscal responsibility, less government intervention, less taxes, and has anti-socialist policies wouldn’t support Mitt Romney in an election against Obama? There was no Tea Party before the 2008 election when McCain was the nominee and in fact was created as a result of Obama’s policies and actions. But we’re going to support Obama this time because we don’t agree completely with Romney on a couple of issues? We’re stupid and we don’t know that Romney, although he promises to repeal Obamacare will actually enforce it? Who in this entire election would be MORE motivated to get rid of Obamacare than Romney after the shit he has taken and what he has had to do to prove to people he doesn’t want it? Of course us Tea Party people truly believe that a Mormon family man is actually pro-abortion. Really? Are we that stupid? Most of us will vote for someone that supports abortion, even late term abortion because… we don’t like Romney who has “flipflopped” on the issue and now supports the repeal of Roe v. Wade.. Maybe we think he will trick us into getting elected and raise taxes although he didn’t do it in one of the most tax and spend states in the Country. Then he might increase illegal immigration completely opposite of what he has promised so … he can look like a fool? The “strategy” is to beat Obama so our Country will have an Executive Officer that reflects what the majority of the Country wants, reduces government intervention into our private lives, supports conservative justices, and will keep us safe internationally. Yep, that’s Obama for sure. Definitely not Romney. Hell, we’ll all stay at home on election day because we all want to have a tantrum instead of placing a vote for a candidate that would start to reverse the destructive course we’re on. I, for one, as a Tea Party member would rather vote for a radical for President who would appoint radicals on the Supreme Court, Justice Department, unconstitutional czars, and other organizations than…. God forbid, vote for another “McCain”. BR, do you see how ridiculous your argument is? What if Newt or Rubio is the VP candidate? How about Allen West or Michele Bachmann? They WANT Newt as the opposition candidate as President. They want anybody but Mitt. Does that not tell you something?

  4. BR: Nominate another McCain? Are you kidding me? First of all Romney is no McCain. He’s a successful businessman that knows how the economy works, and has executive experience in government. Obama has shown what he is and what he has done and what he will do. Something that wasn’t present in 2008. We have a tea party movement now, I’m a member, and I support Mitt Romney. Why wouldn’t I? He wants to reduce taxes, government spending, reduce federal government, and get our fiscal house in order. He is a Mormon that is pro-life. Does anyone actually believe that a Mormon has a default position of killing unborn babies? In the general election do you think any of his stances on anything would cause conservatives to stay home or vote for Obama?

  5. If Romney does get the nominee, the Republican Party will lose the election in 2012. I am a conservative and Romney will not get my vote. I am going to stay at home on Election Day. He is another liberal Democrat. I don’t think Romney will repeal the Obamacare, he will raise high taxes and will put the Americans out of work. Romney is very weak on foreign policy. He does not have a very good campaign. It is so negative. Romney doesn’t do too well on the debate.

  6. Dave B, do you really think that Mitt for brains WILL actually do all the things he says he will? Just like John Bohner did before he we elected speaker, he will say anything to get elected, then fold like a house of cards on those same issues. He has a known history of doing just that. Romney knows how the economy works? Why then would he create Romneycare? Sorry, but we need a real conservative right now, someone who is not a dyed in the wool politican, and certainly not someone who the GOP love, they are a big part of the problems we have right now.

  7. Dave – (I just fished one of your comments out of the spam filter) – I appreciate your comments defending Mitt. You’re not the only passionate Mitt defender I know and Lord knows, if he ends up being our nominee, we’re going to need some pep talks.

Dave B, I’m happy to answer your question. As an active TEA party member myself, I can tell you that if Romney is the nominee, i won’t stay home on election day. I’ll vote third party in the presidential slot. Romney IS another McCain, in that he is as much a Democrat as Republican. Obamacare or Romneycare in 2012? Your choice- I’d rather see the collectivist candidate elected under an accurate label.

  9. Think about what you’re saying. A vote for a third party is a vote for Obama. Period. I would vote for my next door neighbor’s dog who poops in our yard over Obama. Mitt doesn’t inspire confidence, but HE’s NOT OBAMA.

  10. “A vote for a third party is a vote for Obama.”

So be it, then. If the Republican party can’t get it’s priorities straight enough to come up with better candidates than it is sliding toward today, then that’s what it’s going to take to bring real change. A lot of people think this country is in bad shape today- I think a look at history will show that it can get a whole lot worse before it hits bottom. That’s apparently going to be necessary before people see which way is really up. You can’t fix the Democrat problem until you first fix the Republican problem.

  11. I live in Atlanta & have listened to Herman on the radio for a few years & loved listening to him almost every weekday night. I was listening to Neal Boortz on AM750 today & he sounded very upset over this news because Herman is a personal friend and because Neal believes this type of behavior just isn’t part of Herman’s character. If this latest news is true then shame on him for what he has done to his wife & family.

I don’t know if it’s true – my feelings want to believe it’s all a setup but my gut is telling me a different story. BTW – I’m not a Cain 2012 fan & have never been. I just don’t think he is ready for that Office. Still hope the story is false.

The one question I do have is – why did he pick such a dimwitted woman/women? This Ginger lady appears to be a professional screwup with all of her evictions, etc. Wouldn’t it be more of his character to pick up a woman who would be more educated, professional & smart?

  12. I’ve been thinking the same thing, Sharon. Even if you believe his story – why would he be involved in any way with such a shady character. It just doesn’t make sense. I’m very disappointed, nonplussed, and frankly annoyed that he would try running for President with stuff like this in his not so distant history.
