Video: Paul Ryan Warns of “the Most Predictable Crisis We’ve Ever Had in this Country”

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin released this video ahead of next week’s FY2013 budget proposal, and judging from Ryan’s sober tone, it’s another serious attempt to set the ship of state on the path to prosperity, and away from the whirlpool of debt that threatens to suck us all under.

Transcript:

You know, I was here — in Congress — in 2008 when we had the economic crisis. It was a terrible time. Millions of people lost their jobs. Trillions of dollars of wealth: gone.

That crisis caught us by surprise.

Let me ask you a question: what if your President, your Senator and your Congressman knew it was coming? What if they knew when it was going to happen, why it was going to happen and more importantly, what if they knew what they needed to do to stop it from happening and they had the time to stop it? But they chose to do nothing about it, because it wasn’t good politics?

What would you think of that person? It would be immoral.

(Whoever could he be talking about?)

This coming debt crisis is the most predictable crisis we’ve ever had in this country. And look what’s happening.

This is why we’re acting. This is why we’re leading. This is why we’re proposing – and passing out of the House – a budget to fix this problem: so we can save our country for ourselves and our children’s future.

Of course, the  reaction of the Democrats to another serious Republican proposal will be hysterics and rabid demagoguery.

Sunshine State Sarah says:

This is why the Left is so desperate to create distractions – to make this election about class warfare through the “Occupy” movement, getting a Georgetown law student/liberal activist to grossly exaggerate the cost of contraception to spark a “War on Women.” They know they have committed a gross malfeasance of duty, and that there is simply no way to explain away these numbers.

My prediction: over the next few months, we will see an endless parade of ridiculousness from the Left, as they attempt to stir up one false controversy after another, to dig up new strawmen to blame, new victims who will plead for mercy, claiming their only hope for relief is rescue by Uncle Sam’s checkbook.

Because Democrats don’t care about the country – they care about raw power – how to gain it, how to keep it.

The only way to save the country is to defeat them.

  1. So you are saying that a more than doubling in the price of an average home in the country was not a lead up to a known coming crisis?

By the way, this is the same guy who voted for Medicare Part D, TARP, auto Bailouts, No Child Left Behind and even the bridge to nowhere! Seriously? This is our fiscal conservative champion!?!

Of course, he does have the Ryan Road Map that leads to ever higher national debt until 2040 or 2050. I guess fiscal conservatism was not conserved by the conservatives!

  2. He said what is coming is the most predictable crisis. You want to re litigate the past. Everyone knows that Republicans were a huge disappointment to fiscal conservatives during the Bush years.
But I’ve yet to find a conservative who is just like me on every single issue, or hasn’t cast votes I disagreed with.
Sorry I’m not gonna throw a guy under the bus for a few lousy votes out of thousands.

  3. Do the Republicans have a perfect economic record? No.
Do they have a better economic record than the Democrats? OMG, hell yes! It’s not even close.

The choice isn’t between a perfect plan and an imperfect plan, the choice is between an imperfect fix and total catastrophe. I know which one I prefer. I just wish more conservatives were smart enough to see that.

Sometimes I feel like a fan of a football team that keeps not throwing the ball until they are 100% sure of a touchdown and so ends up scoreless against a team that keeps fumbling the ball toward the end zone and getting goal after goal. Except this isn’t a game, it’s our future and our kids future. We can’t afford to lose, so we have to try to score eventually.

  4. @astonerii: basically, what you’re saying is that you either want the whole loaf or none at all? So would I, except that ain’t gonna happen, and you know it.

My alternative is to do the same as Dear Leader, only in reverse. He wants to incrementally dump single-payer health care on us, let’s incrementally reverse what he’s started.

He wants to incrementally destroy the oil industry, let’s start rebuilding it one well and one refinery at a time.

He wants to take away our most basic freedoms one at a time, let’s renew our pledge to each of those freedoms one freedom at a time.

You get the idea. Most mushminds we call voters in this country are not ready for a wholesale stripping of entitlements that government (Republican and Democrap) has bestowed upon them in the chase for the holy grail of votes, and would literally revolt if those entitlements were stripped away unceremoniously all at once. Take a page from Alinsky – it can, has and will work both ways.

  5. DID YOU EVER NOTICE, that when you read comments from Obama agenda supporters, their rhetoric is always: blame the other Party for the problems, or, that they are acting as apologists for the Socialististic agenda ? Why can’t they just listen to anyone not in lockstep with their political philosophy, and heed the warnings for what they are. Out Nation is at risk, like it or not.

    Because it’s not a philosophy…………………….. it’s a religion.
