Video: Paul Ryan Cracks Up At Reporter’s Question About Obama’s Latest Demagogic Attack

As the Washington Beacon aptly put it, The President fired up his base, (aka the MSM) today in a speech before the Associated Press luncheon at the American Society of Newspaper Editors convention in Washington, D.C.

He viciously attacked the GOP budget resolution proposed by House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) to the delight of  the media toadies in attendance.

The president accused Republicans of promoting a failed theory of “trickle-down” economics driven by large tax cuts for the wealthy financed at the expense of federal spending on the middle class.

The GOP vision, as outlined in the Ryan budget, was “nothing but thinly veiled Social Darwinism” and “a Trojan horse designed as a deficit reduction plan,” the president said.

“I don’t think people fully appreciate the nature of [the GOP] budget,” he said.

History has proven “their theory” wrong, Obama argued, before chastising Republicans for refusing to “show some humility and moderate their views.”

“Instead of moderating their views even slightly, the Republicans running Congress right now have doubled down,” he said, describing Ryan’s budget as “so far to the right it makes the Contract with America look like the New Deal.”

Though he did not mention Ryan by name, Obama did call out GOP presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney, who has praised Ryan’s budget as “marvelous.”

“He even called [the Ryan budget] marvelous,” the president said of Romney. “Which is a word you don’t often hear when it comes to describing the budget. It’s a word you don’t often hear generally.”

The crowd of reporters erupted in laughter.

Guy Benson at Townhall called it Obama’s Worst Speech Yet.

Today we witnessed something truly remarkable. Barack Obama managed to out-do himself by uncorking what very well may have been the most dishonest, demagogic, and bitterly partisan speech of his presidency.

In an interview with CBS News’ Chip Reid in Wisconsin on Tuesday, Rep. Paul Ryan was also laughing, but not with the President — at the President’s comically demagogic criticism of his budget proposals. He said, “unfortunately, we’re used to the President acting like this”, called him the “Campaigner in Chief”, and  went on to say instead of offering real  solutions to fix this country’s problems, Obama offers “these baseless, partisan attacks.”

“You know, I don’t think history is going to be kind to a President, that when confronted with one of country’s most pressing challenges – the debt crisis – chooses to do nothing about it, and then waits for those of us who offer solutions, to attack us in these baseless ways… I think what the President is trying to do is offer this big government populism and in an effort not to propose solutions, but in an effort to divide and distract this country for the purposes of his reelection, and I just don’t think people are going to buy this stuff.”

So annoying – embedding not allowed, watch on YouTube…

I hadn’t realized he also made a “joke” telling reporters to feel free to transmit his speech to Vladamir…Wow…that wasn’t very funny at all, was it?

Talking to Fox News after the President spoke at the Associated Press’s annual luncheon, Ryan said, “I seem to have three certainties in my life – death, taxes and bitter partisan attacks from President Barack Obama” (video follows with transcribed highlights and absolutely no need for additional commentary):

  1. Obama possesses one skill of note: He’s adept at demagoguery.

His current machinations over the federal budget amount to an attempt to marshal derision toward the Ryan budget from among the forces and institutions still friendly to him. They possess a large megaphone, so it’s not entirely without precedent that they might mock the GOP caucus in the House into agreeing to raise taxes, increase the debt, or do some other campaign-wounding thing…thus increasing Obama’s chance of returning for a second term.

My great fear at this time is that Obama will refuse to accept the verdict of the November elections, and trigger a second Civil War. To those who pooh-pooh that possibility, I say: What aspects of Obama’s character, his antecedents, or his behavior to date have convinced you so thoroughly that that can’t possibly happen?

  2. I don’t understand why anyone making less than $500K a year would think the Ryan budget is a good plan, unless one is a complete idiot. Nevertheless the Obama budget is equally as bad, but on the extreme Left.

  3. Tell me what the “moderate” budget would do, tlips – keeping in mind that according to the CBO, the economy shuts down in 2027 if we continue down this path, and that’s what the “right wing extremist”, Ryan is trying to prevent.

  4. Everyone is saying the GOP candidate (probably Mittens) is going to be attacked like no one ever has been.

I disagree. There is only so far vitriolic language can take one in public discourse, and Duh-1 hasn’t been far off that level already.

However, wait to see the dirty tricks Obama brings down on his opponent! And he will justify it because, you know, his opponent unjustly attacked Dear Leader with such unscrupulous things as the truth. Mr. Thin Skin has never seen the level of attack he is going to get this time around, and if Mittens won’t do it, by gosh there are plenty of us out here that will shove his own words and actions right back at him.

BTW, the “October Surprise” this time around could very well be Fast and Furious. Probably the only way Issa can redeem himself to most of us out here.

And everyone, ignore tlip. He has nothing of any consequence to say, and only compounds his ignorance with every passing comment. And if he does happen to say something that comes close to making sense or is somewhere near the truth, I’ll be the first to answer him and congratulate him on finally graduating out of his echo chamber playpen.

  5. So many conspiracy theories, so little time. The walking dead of the right can’t make up their mind whether the President is a lily-livered, America-hating, Soviet-loving Muslim wannabe, or some power-hungry Chicago thug who craves power and will destroy anybody or anything that gets in his way. Make up your minds, people!

As far as the Ayn Rand/Paul Ryan budget. It there for all to see. Its one of the most craven politically cynical documents of the young century. Maybe ever. It guts programs for the middle class and poor, Leaves programs for the aged alone (only for aged who are receiving these programs and are active voters NOW). It increases military spending, Provides another gigantic tax refund to the rich, cowardly refuses to name nearly half the cuts it claims it will make, And after all that, it won’t balance the budget after most of us are planted in the ground. It’s a budget only a republican could conceive or love.

  6. To A Guy from Luthlia Springs

Did you actually read the proposal, or have one of the Obamabot read it to you? Did you even think to compare the Ryan Budget to the Obama Budget? If you had you would understand why even the DNC will not even bring up a vote on the Obama budget. The Ryan budget maybe a little harsh but it does offer hope of someday getting out of the Obama deficits. The Obama budget will have your great grandchildren still paying for his deficits; it will also guarantee the economy will remain in the toilet for the next decade at least.

Please come back when you have compared the budgets and are capable of saying anything intelligent

They laughed because the word “budget” has been conspicuously absent from Downgrade’s repetoir for the last three years…with their help, of course.

Well, I can plainly see Congress’s authority for military spending.

The entitlement programs, nosomuch. Maybe your copy of the Constitution is different from mine?

  10. Last I checked, tlip and Lithia Springs, the Republican House had done its constitutional duty and had sent several different budgets to the Democrat-controlled Senate, but the Senate (led by a brain-damaged pugilist who doesn’t even realize he’s not still in a ring) has abdicated its duty and not passed a budget for nearly 3 years now. The Senate could even pass the president’s budget (maybe) and send it to the compromise committee, but Dingy doesn’t even have the guts to do that! His gamesmanship is all about political theater, the taxpayers and country be damned.

But, in the fine tradition of not seeing reality at all (not even knowing what door it’s behind!) they scream “It’s the Republicans’ fault!!!” Yep, make as much sense as anything else they’ve contributed lately.
