As Sheriff Arpaio Continues His Investigation of Obama, the DOJ Escalates Its War Against the Sheriff

In a not unexpected move, the  Obama Dept of Injustice is preparing to sue Arizona county sheriff Joe Arpaio and his department for violating civil rights laws. This comes in the wake of two Arpaio new conferences,  March 1 and March 31, disclosing to the public his posse’s findings  regarding Obama’s long form birth certificate and his selective service registration  card.

Reuters reports:

The sheriff’s high-profile crackdown on illegal immigrants has helped thrust the issue onto the national political stage with some states passing tough new laws aimed at pushing out those in the country illegally.

The administration’s Justice Department and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office have been in settlement talks for months over allegations that officers regularly made unlawful stops and arrests of Latinos, used excessive force against them and failed to adequately protect the Hispanic community.

Those negotiations have broken down because of a fight over the Justice Department’s demand that an independent monitor be appointed by a federal court to oversee compliance with the settlement, which has now reached 128 pages in draft form, according to the Obama administration.

As you can imagine, Arpaio has objected to being assigned a “monitor” to hamstring his law enforcement efforts.

The Justice Department in a December report outlined numerous alleged civil rights violations, including that Latino drivers were four to nine times more likely to be stopped than non-Latinos by Arpaio’s force.

The sheriff has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing and lashed out at the Obama administration for targeting his department and failing to deal with the problem of illegal immigration with some 11.5 million believed to be in the United States.

In a strongly worded statement on Tuesday, Arpaio said the appointment of a monitor would force him to abdicate responsibility for his police force, including decisions about policies, operations, jail programs and enforcement.

“To the Obama administration, who is attempting to strong arm me into submission only for its political gain, I say: This will not happen, not on my watch!” Arpaio said in the statement.

Arpaio may be on to something, there. As J Christian Adams has written, “if the public had any idea just how politicized the (Civil Rights) Division has become under this administration, outrage would follow.”

For those who have followed this series, you know that much of the culpability rests with former Acting Assistant Attorney Loretta King. As I pointed out in a piece last week, King rewrote the hiring guidelines back in 2009, resulting in hiring committee members being forced to toss any resume that did not describe a radical background. She didn’t believe that lawyers who represented defendants in civil rights cases also have expertise in the law. She didn’t believe anyone who didn’t work for a left-wing group deserved to work in the Civil Rights Division.

Apologists of this disgrace say DOJ only wanted people “with experience in civil rights law.” That’s called a pretext. Plenty of lawyers have experience defending civil rights cases. Plenty of lawyers who didn’t work for left-wing groups have the willingness and dedication to enforce the law fairly.

The truth is that most of the “experience” this series has described is meaningless for a DOJ lawyer, except to do one thing: demonstrate their political and ideological allegiance with the Obama administration. Kavitha Sreeharsha’s work promoting abortion won’t have anything to do with litigating cases at DOJ. Daria Neal’s nutty environmental advocacy won’t help her win a case at DOJ. But it will give Eric Holder and DOJ political appointees comfort they are hiring fellow travelers who will try to move the law, who will work to aid the political aims of the administration.

Last month, Arpaio held two news conferences in which he tried to publicize his investigation’s findings regarding the legitimacy of the President’s long form birth certificate which was finally posted on the White House website, last April.  Arpaio’s team of investigators were hoping to put an end to the nagging controversy  by finding everything on the up and up, but instead, they came to the opposite conclusion. The thing that was posted online is as fake as a three dollar bill, a “computer-generated forgery”, Arpaio’s cold case posse declared.  Arpaio’s invesigation also found that “the INS records for foreign flights arriving in Hawaii during the week of Obama’s birth were missing, not only on the microfilm reels examined, but also in the primary database itself.” Climate change skeptic and fraud detector, Christopher Monckton met with Arpaio, recently, and concurred that that the BC is a forgery.

Arpaio has now expanded his probe to include the allegations of Hillary Clinton supporters:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio has decided to expand the scope of his law enforcement investigation into President Obama’s eligibility to include evidence and affidavits documenting alleged criminal activity by the Obama campaign in the 2008 Democratic Party primary race.

Hollywood film producer Bettina Viviano and Hollywood-based digital photographer Michele Thomas have given Arpaio’s investigators the names of dozens of Hillary Clinton supporters willing to come forward with evidence and affidavits. Among their claims is that the Clintons were the first to charge Obama is not a natural born citizen as required by Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution and that his birth certificate is a forgery.

Moreover, the Hillary supporters identified by Viviano and Thomas have argued that the pattern of questionable and possibly illegal activity suggests that the alleged act of producing forged birth certificate documentation for Obama may have been merely more of the same.

Needless to say, the  media – right, left and “mainstream”, have been less than eager to share any of this news with the public.

The media blackout  was tackled by Diana West, last month in her post, Silence of the Lapdogs“:

Warning: This column contains news of evidence of possible forgery and fraud in the long-form birth certificate of the president of the United States and – bonus – his Selective Service registration card.

I figure the warning is necessary to prevent Americans, particularly Americans who work in news media and politics, from hurting themselves on any hard, sharp facts that might poke through my discussion of what is surely the biggest scandal to emerge around the seemingly dodgy docs Barack Obama is using to verify his identity.

I refer to the logic- and history-defying news and political blackout of the March 1 press conference called in Maricopa County, Ariz., by Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse.

I ask you: Have you read in your local paper about the technical evidence that led the posse’s three retired criminal investigators and two attorneys to conclude that the birth certificate image White House officials uploaded at the White House website on April 27, 2011, did not originate in a paper format, but rather was created (forged) as an electronic file on a computer?

She referred to a leading leading conservative editor, who complained that “It’s an issue on which people are being marginalized very easily and very quickly at this point.”

Marginalized by whom? The Soros-funded attack machine? The liberal-dominated “mainstream media”? Fox News-dominated conservative media? The Obama White House?

Clearly, something has us all on lockdown. That’s much, much scarier than even the amazing possibility that some con artist might be pulling off the biggest scam in history.

Now the con artist is doing everything in his power to shut down the one Sheriff in the country who’s willing to put it all on the line by exposing the scam.
We facilitate their intimidation tactics by our silence.
UPDATE:
Arpaio has more backbone than anyone I’ve ever seen – this simply isn’t common among elected officials. But there’s no way he’s gonna let Obama’s DOJ bully him around, especially when it is only about politics. He says if they want to take him to court, he’s more than willing to call their bluff and make them substantiate their allegations, something he says they’ve refused to do thus far and something he doesn’t think they want to do in court.
On Saturday, March 31, 2012, a press conference was held by a commissioned law enforcement body to present additional findings from their investigation into the bona fides and background of a man currently occupying the highest elected position in America. The investigation not only includes the forensic irregularities of the birth documentation submitted by Barack Hussein Obama, but into two additional areas. The official law enforcement investigation is also encompassing problems confirmed to exist with the authenticity of his selective service registration, a matter we’ve previously reported. Additionally and perhaps more explosive, investigation has broadened into the actions of Hillary Clinton and her closest political operatives during the latter part of the 2008 presidential campaign.

Most people following this issue are aware of the irregularities surrounding Obama’s selective service registration. Yet few appear to be aware that detectives from the Arizona investigative team have been methodically securing affidavits documenting alleged criminal activity by the Obama campaign during the 2008 Democratic Party primary.

“Something” happened during the latter portion of the campaign that involved Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama. Recall that Obama and Clinton ditched the press and their respective staff members to meet in secret during the late night hours of Thursday, June 5, 2008, at the home of Senator Dianne Feinstein. The meeting lasted about an hour, and what was discussed was never publicly disclosed.

  1. The problem with the Arizona “posse” is that they arrived at their conclusion before they ever began their “investigation”. Their so-called “findings” were as predictable as they were prefabricated and preordained. These continued doings of the tinfoil hat brigade are like manna from heaven in an election year. The walking dead of the right are going all-in on the crazy. Keep it up, gang.

Ahh…Thanks for explaining. And your evidence for that is…..

  3. The tinfoil hat brigade operates on belief, not evidence. When this thing first began, I told some of my buddies that any information the President were to bring forward will be immediately dismissed as fraudulent. Which it was. There is no evidence this President could produce that would convince the tinfoil hat brigade. None. Their minds are already made up. Thus any material brought forward HAS to be a fake. So when Sheriff Whoosis out there in cactus-land decided to form his “publicity posse”, it was QED that their conclusions would be that the President is not a citizen. It fits in with the tinfoil hat brigade pattern of belief first. Any evidence or material is interpreted only in a way to support the conclusion they already reached. Responsible authorities are presumed to be liars, the “real truth” being covered up. Conspiracy theory 101. To repeat, I hope ya’ll keep bringing the crazy.

Uh huh, well that was all very interesting, but I didn’t see your evidence that the three retired criminal investigators and two attorneys who say they went into the investigation hoping to put an end to the controversy, arrived at their conclusions before their investigation.

I’ll assume you have none, and are thus basing your opinion on “theory.”

Not the dumbest thing I’ve read today, but it is close.

The problem with your highly subjective theory is that Downgrade could have put this matter to bed at any time in a half dozen lawsuits simply by producing the evidence.

Bang. Done. And don’t the people who were questioning look stupid?

Instead, he spent millions on well-heeled counsel from Perkins Coie to fly all over the country and resist every discovery request made for it.
I’m sorry, but 2+2+2 does not equal four.

This is a put-down from someone living in Lithia Springs? Puleeeease.

There’s a quick way to prevent such a furor from ever happening again: Each state should pass a law requiring irrefutable proof of a presidential candidate being a natural-born citizen. Can’t produce it? Sorry, find some way other than false documents. The burden of proof should be on the candidate, not the state, since it is the candidate that wants something and the state doesn’t have a dog in the fight. Obama’s tactics are elemental Alinski.

  7. The burden of proof is not on Obama to prove he is a citizen, gals………he’s proven it. Certified by the state of his birth. That much is fact. All else is theory. And conspiracy rhetoric. And madness. Keep it coming!

  8. The burden of proof is not on Obama to prove he is a citizen

No, that isn’t true. The question is not whether he has to prove he is a citizen, it is who he has to prove it to. That much is clear in the lawsuits on this matter that have been dismissed because the courts concluded that the average citizen had no standing to bring the claim.

    Your statement is false.

  10. “Hi. I’m a citizen of the United States and want to be president. And I have sealed all my records so no one can prove that I’m not a citizen, so you’ll just have to take my word for it.”

Yeah, Lithia, that makes a lot of sense, especially since the guy is such a prolific liar. Don’t believe me? Well, you probably don’t want to over-exercise your brain, but you could fact-check his statements last Monday about the proper role of the SCOTUS, or his statements concerning provisions in the House-passed Ryan bill. And if you do, please don’t get your talking points from Huffpo or Daily Kos or similar sites – I hear enough jackass talking lies on the daily LSN broadcasts.

  11. Great coverage Deb. Viviano must get her film out. I can’t wait to hear what the “ladies of Trinity United Church of Christ” had to say. Bettina said they were so frightened, she cannot show their face. Don’t you know that church has some tales to tell.

Any Sheriff but Arpaio might be in trouble. He’ll be around a lot longer than Holder. It is encouraging to see other bloggers talking about this, because so many are not. Anyone taking the time to view Arpaio’s news conference should be able to be fairly confident that something is going on.

  13. The thing all you birthers don’t understand is that once the state of Hawaii made its certification official, all of your “debate” became irrelevant. There is no basis or requirement for 3rd party “independent” certification just the tinfoil hat brigade has its panties in a bunch. That’s a you problem. Meanwhile, keep driving away those independents!

  14. The Hawaii Department of Health has never “certified”, much less confirmed to anyone that the image released by the White House is an accurate representation of the original Hawaii records.

But you’re right all this tinfoil hat stuff is driving away independents, I should stop now – thanks for the advice.
.Wait….Why would a lefty want to give a confused conservative like me advice?

  15. Some things are more important than others. Making sure we know a president is natural born is one of them. None of this will have bearing on Obama’s status before this election, but there is an opportunity to eventually settle how certifications by Congress are handled. I’ve had conversations with numerous Independents and hello…they may not like the fuss but they respect the Constitution, understand why we have the natural born clause, and with Arpaio’s work, even they see that something is wrong.
