Obama: “Troops Are Fighting On My Behalf” – Navy Seal: “YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE MILITARY MAN”

Cassandra: They are, after all, expendable to him.

I wish I were convinced that our Commander in Chief – or even pundits like David Ignatius – understood one tenth of the pride military families feel in our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines. How can anyone praise the “Commander in Chief” for sending 30,000 of America’s finest to war for a cause he not only doesn’t support but actively tries to sabotage?

If you didn’t know this clip was part of Obama’s Evolution, Complete Coming Out of the Gay Marriage Closet media blitz, you would think he was getting ready to praise the troops for all of their hard work and sacrifice on the country’s behalf – but no….you would be wrong.

Former Navy SEAL, Benjamin Smith spoke for many when he Let Obama Have It in this recent diatribe:

President Barack Hussein Obama – STOP using the Navy SEALS as a campaign ploy. Because with all due respect, (what little I have for you), you do NOT speak for me.

You have a movie about SEALS within the past year trying to identify with me, with the navy SEALS, and with anything that might improve your polling numbers…and yet it is all a sham to hide a weak un-American man desperate to claim the victories of others for his own.

You Sir are trying to take the credit for what the American People have achieved in killing Bin Laden. Your use of the SEALs accomplishment as a campaign slogan is nothing less than despicable. I, as a former Navy SEAL do not accept your taking credit for Osama Bin Laden’s death. The American Military accomplished that feat.

Yet now that it is useful, you Mr. President, continue to refer to the event as if it were YOU and you alone which accomplished the worthy task of slaying one of America’s greatest enemies. You say “I directed”, “I Continued”, “My Intelligence Community”, “My national security team”, “I determined that I had enough….”, “My direction…”

Yet reliable sources continue to report that not only did you attempt to stop or delay Bin Laden’s demise, you did not even leave the golf course for the situation room until 20 minutes before SEAL Team 6 took out Osama Bin Laden. Even the clothes you wore in the situation room betray this fact. This is a Commander in Chief? A man who takes credit for actions largely taken while he was out golfing?

We men who have taken the oath, say ENOUGH. You do not speak for me, a former Navy SEAL, or any one of the league of men whom I have earned the right to be among. You are simply a man running for an office. Yet you behave as a glory-hoarding ruler. You campaign to be our leader, yet in reality you wish to be our Master.

The American people are the ones who got Bin Laden… You did Not! We have fought wars and slugged it with Vast Terror Organizations to get to the man you say YOU killed. The United Sates of America has won you a title sir and you have spent the last three years trying to beg, borrow and bow as you GIVE IT ALL AWAY. You just happened to be president of the USA when WE THE PEOPLE got Osama Bin Laden. We do not see you as heroic or stoic, we see you as the guy who let America Go. We got fat and weak and you gave it all away. That is your credit – you bow to foreign leaders and pander to the press. You do not represent me as a Military Man. You do not represent me as a SEAL. You do not represent me as an AMERICAN!

You do not speak for me or any American military man because though you may now be Commander in Chief, you are not the man to whom we can point our sons and say “This is the American dream, this is American exceptionalism, this is what I wish for your future”, because you Sir are NONE of these things. You Sir, are the antithesis of American Exceptionalism. Your idols are Saul Alinksi and Karl Marx and your revolutionary dreams and anti-American ideals poison your every policy. Your every action betrays the fact that in your soul you do not understand what it is to be an American, not what America truly is. Your agenda from the beginning has been to get rid of and kill everything that is and ever was American. You who so easily dismisses America’s greatness and bows to foreigners… YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR ME. YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE NAVY SEALS. YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE MILITARY MAN AND you SHALL NOT claim as your prize that which you have not earned. The Navy SEALS are NOT a campaign slogan to be bantered about for play. Nor are our accomplishments, including the demise of Osama Bin Laden, yours to claim.

So you DO NOT speak for me. And I will not stand for your use and abuse of my brethren the SEALS.

For Liberty,

Benjamin Smith

Let’s vote this sorry farce out of the White House, this November, folks.

  1. Regarding the casualties in Afghanistan, here’s a short post I wrote at IB at the end of last month:

Did you realize that ~25% of the total casualties from Afghanistan & Iraq have occurred during the current administration’s tenure?

Adjusting for time in office, Obama is losing US service members at 2/3 the rate of the Bush administration.

Sure seems like the media and protests were more than 50% louder during the Bush administration, though.

  2. The chart ignores a key bit of information. Under Obama’s watch, troop numbers in Afghanistan surged from around 40,000 to near 100,000, so the increase in casualties is directly attributable to the numbers of boots on the ground.

  3. Fatalities increases were due to military surges that were recommended by the pentagon – You guys are NOT helping Americans, you are poisoning our country with misinformation and distortions. — You write about topics with limited knowledge.

  4. The troop surge was supposed to result in a surge of their deaths, not ours.
Cassandra, who wrote the post I linked to at the top, grew up in the military and has spent 3 decades married to an active duty Marine.

She knows of what she speaks.

  5. You can rest assured that the enemy sustained far more casualties than we did. The troops were sent to engage the enemy and they did so, to their honor and credit.

  6. That’s lovely – the point is – Obama, reluctantly agreed to a surge he didn’t believe in with counterproductive ROE – inviting the Taliban to wait us out by announcing when we would withdraw troops. The sacrifices the troops made will all be for naught.

  7. 500,000 troops? Where’s your link for that?
The 30,000 was 3/4 of what McChrystal was asking for. He initially wanted 50,000 but was convinced to lower the request to 40,000.

Again – this is recent history – you’re not going to get away with rewriting it, here.

Meanwhile, the question remains — What kind of commander in chief sends tens of thousands of troops to war announcing in advance a fixed date for beginning their withdrawal?
One that is governed by political expediency, not what’s best for the troops, or this country.

  8. Lincoln is being a pinhead – McChrystal wasn’t asking for that number of troops, he was guessing that that might be what was required. And his supposition was that, as in Iraq, the bulk of the troops would be supplied by Afghanistan.

  9. Okay, what we’re talking about is the official number he was asking for in 2009 – that was 40,000. Obama’s 17,000 wasn’t serious. And he’s never been serious about winning either of the wars. Just getting out.

  10. If he was only serious about getting out of Afghanistan, why commit to sending more troops? Obama recognized that the focus on the war on terror was in Afghanistan.

  11. He committed to sending more troops than he wanted to a war he wanted us out of. Even David Ignatius admits that to be the case in an article meant to flatter Obama.

David Ignatius inadvertently highlights Obama’s incoherent and oddly passive performance as Commander in Chief:

President Obama finally seemed to reach his comfort level as commander in chief during his visit to Kabul yesterday — and it probably wasn’t a coincidence that he was signing an Obamesque document that at once mandates the withdrawal of most U.S. combat troops — and also allows the continued presence of a counterterrorism force to kill al-Qaeda terrorists.

This is the outcome that Obama probably wanted all along, which was favored back in 2009 by Vice President Biden and other political advisers. The president let himself be talked into a more ambitious counterinsurgency strategy, and a surge of 30,000 troops, but he never seemed happy with it.

Indeed, he undercut the surge strategy from the outset by announcing that he would begin withdrawing the surge troops in July 2011 — practically inviting the Taliban to wait him out.

Obama has sometimes seemed a distant, passionless commander, much more comfortable making decisions in secret about covert action than in the flag-waving public role of leading the troops. But that didn’t seem true yesterday, especially during his unscripted, shirt-sleeve speech to troops at Bagram Air Base. He sounded like the military’s advocate and leader, looking fit and youthful as he strode striding the stage. Surely this comfort level was a reflection of the fact that he was outlining a strategy he finally believes in.

  12. 500,000 supplied by coalition plus Afghanistan, was unrealistic.

We did it in Iraq, which has a slightly smaller population than Afghanistan. We’re currently about halfway there.

Obama recognized that the focus on the war on terror was in Afghanistan.

That would be wrong (and misphrased) – who told you that?

  13. Remind me again…from where did we launch the attack that killed bin Laden?

Remind me again…wasn’t it bin Laden who was isolated, marginalized, and ridiculed by his own men? Oh yeah, it was. Getting bin Laden served justice and made an international statement, but it had only a miniscule impact on terrorist organizations.

Which is why he had been way down most people’s lists for years.
