Video: Andrea Mitchell Non-Apology Remix

Monday, MSNBC was caught distorting Mitt Romney’s comments about a PA grocery store chain to make him look out of touch, when what he was doing was comparing the innovation and efficiency of the private sector to the public sector.

After the dishonest selective editing job was discovered by Sooper Mexican, a spokeswoman for MSNBC  said they were looking into the matter.

At Newsbusters, Brent Bozell fumed:

This isn’t journalism. This is make believe. Barack Obama has been damaged by his careless comment that “the private sector is doing fine” – exposing how out of touch he is with reality – and his friends in the liberal media are busy dicing up video clips to pin the “out of touch” label on his Republican rival. Several media outlets picked up on Mitchell’s “report” – including CNN and Politico – and now have to eat crow as her deception has come to light.

Mitchell would have to offer something — anything to explain what she did…

Ace reported on Mitchell’s paltry correction with disgust:

“Apparently this is the result of their investigation. She only plays a few more seconds of the remark (his summation, but not the earlier contrast he drew with the government sector), and does not even mention that the edit has been called deceptive.”

All she says is that there was more and “we didn’t get a chance to play it.”

Bullet People takes the ball from there:

A remix concentrating on the two most dishonest sentences read off a teleprompter in recent memory. Watch Andrea Mitchell say a pair of carefully crafted sentences to first explain a misleading edit as a simple timing choice and second to segue quickly out of the embarrassing topic. As the face of MSNBC’s dishonestly edited video, she owes her first apology to professional journalists.

Deacon’s Bench: Memo to NBC: What the hell is wrong with you?

You deserve what they’re saying about you.  It’s earned.  You have worked long and hard to merit the suspicion, acrimony, mistrust and revulsion that the media-buying public increasingly heaps upon you.   You have successfully eroded any confidence, dispelled any trust, and driven your audience into the arms of the Internet and the blogosphere, where biases are affirmed and like-minded people can tell each other what they hold to be true, since nobody believes in objective reality any more.  You have done a superlative job of diminishing what was once a great profession and undermining one of the vital underpinnings of democracy, a free press.

Good job.

I just have one question:

What the hell is wrong with you guys?

  1. Is that all you have there ND?
From what I saw that was all right wing bloggers jumping all over Mrs Greenspan, they aren’t real journalist, everyone knows that. Just ask Juan. Juan knows the difference, after all it was the right wing bloggers and not journalist who saved his bacon, when the dopey lib media went after him.
If this was a “real news story” and not just some right wing hype, everyone would be reporting it. All of Juan’s old buddies, who threw him right under the bus. I never heard anything from Brokaw, Steffi, Williams, Prune Face [Diane], Cafe Joe or his sidekick MinkA, Lauer, Katie, nyslimes, chrissy Mathues, Keith xxxx errr [forget keith].
Where do you people come up with this stuff?
