Via John Hinderaker of Powerline, who says, Mitt knocked it out of the park:
By all accounts, Mitt Romney was sensational today in Pennsylvania. His theme was Barack Obama’s revelatory “you didn’t build that” speech. Over the lunch hour (here in the Midwest), Twitter was burning up with commentary from those who were watching Romney’s speech live. The commentary was unanimously euphoric. Romney spoke without teleprompter or notes, something Obama rarely does without getting into trouble. He was, everyone agreed, passionate and articulate. It seems that Obama’s attack on entrepreneurs and job creators, and his baldly stated conviction that everyone owes everything to government, was the spark that Romney needed. It will be interesting to see how his speech is reported on tonight.
I searched YouTube for the full video, but there were only a few short clips. You can watch some video clips at Powerline.
Here’s a near full length audio of the speech DailyWorldwideNews put up:
John is right that Romney was at his best when talking about Obama’s recent remarks denigrating business owners. He said:
“President Obama exposed what he really thinks about free people and the American vision and government, and what he really thinks about America, itself. He probably wants to understand why his policies failed…if you wanna understand why his policies have failed, , why what he has done has not created jobs, or rising incomes in America, you can look at what he said. And what he said was this, and I quote, (and he’s speaking by the way of businesses, like this one, small businesses, big businesses, middle sized businesses, mining businesses, manufacturing, service, businesses of all kind. He said this , If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” (Boooooooo!) That somebody else is government in his view. He goes on to describe the people who deserve the credit for building this business, and he describes the people we care very deeply about…school teachers firefighters, people who build roads, we need those things….you really couldn’t have a business if you didn’t have those things, but you know, we pay for those things. (Applause) The taxpayers pay for government. It’s not like the government just provides those things for us, and we say, “oh thank you government for those things…”
“The idea that Steve Jobs didn’t build Apple, that Henry Ford didn’t build Ford Motors, that Papa John didn’t build Papa John’s Pizza, that Ray Crock didn’t build McDonalds, that Bill Gates didn’t build Microsoft – you go down the list…..to say something like this is not just foolishness, it’s insulting to every innovator in America, and it’s wrong.”
He went on to say that what Obama said “was both startling and revealing. I find it extraordinary that a philosophy of that nature could be spoken by a President of the United States.”
I’ll take this guy over the preening, teleprompter-reading, Occupy-loving Marxist any day.
