Fox’s Special Report panel had a food discussion about Akin’s decision to stay in the race. Krauthammer, after expressing shock at how much in denial Akin’s in, suggested that a horse be put in his bed, but doubted that Akin would get the reference.
You want delusional, check out Akin’s tweets tonight:
I apologized but the liberal media is trying to make me drop out. Please stand w/ me tonight by signing my petition at akin.org/still-standing
In the same way theytargeteddonors to Republican rival Mitt Romney for attack, the Obama Campaign’s fraudulent “Truth Team” websitehas singled out several patriotic groups of military heroes, calling them a “cadre of conservative groups” and “operatives” who are trying to “swiftboat” the President.
They are in fact, retired military heroes opposing Obama’s reelection because of the damage his administration is doing to our National Security.
Several veterans’ groups have spoken out against the Obama administration’s habit of taking credit for the Osama bin Laden raid and leaking military secrets for political gain–so the Obama campaign is trying to shoot the messenger.
The charge made by the Obama campaign is that the veterans’ groups are “Swift Boat 2.0”–referring to the group that launched a series of ads (never refuted) in 2004 contesting claims by then-Democrat presidential candidate John Kerry about his war record. Left-wing groups aligned with the Obama administration have even gone so far as to call the U.S. Navy Seals “gutless” for their participation in criticism of Obama.
Ryan Zinke, a member of the Montana state Senate and a U.S. Navy SEAL from 1985 to 2008, told Breitbart News: “It’s a sad time for America when a President has to resort to bully tactics, intimidation, and misleading personal attacks against anyone who dares to speak out and be heard. The good thing is Americans have a long history of defeating tyrants.”
Juan Williams, filling in for Bill O’Reilly, last week, characterized critics of OPSEC veterans as “the far left”. OPSEC is one of the groups the Obama camp has targeted on the Truth Team website.
I wonder if Williams would be willing to characterize the President of the United States member of “the far left” as he has joined their shrill voices by adding Special Op heroes to his enemies list?
We, as veterans, legatees, and supporters of the Special Operations communities of all the Armed Forces, have noted with dismay and deep alarm the recent stream of highly damaging leaks of information about various aspects of America’s shadow war in the overall War on Terror. Our principles are the same as when we were in active service — Duty, Honor, Country.
Our goals are:
To emphasize the pressing need for the nation and its representatives to understand the value of our Constitution and actively support a return to its application in all phases of government;
To illuminate the failed operational security environment of the Administration and to provide the public with accurate information about these repeated releases of highly classified information;
To restore accountability in government and with it the trust in our government that We The People deserve and demand.
Special Operations for America (SOFA) is committed to a strong and independent military that is capable of defending America’s freedoms and interests.
SOFA is dedicated to restoring strong leadership to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and those senior officials appointed by the President.
SOFA believes in American exceptionalism along with leadership that does not minimize American greatness or politicize military achievements for personal gain.
SOFA pledges to accurately address issues that affect our military and those core threats to National Security.
SOFA will identify and provide accurate information on policies that harm or discredit our national security and those who bravely protect us.
STOP the politicians, President Obama and others, from politically capitalizing on US national security operations and secrets!
EDUCATE the public on the importance and necessity of Operational Security in today’s environment.
To Do Nothing is not an option as that allows the special operations and intelligence capabilities to be degraded, and paraded around like a show dog…ACTION IS REQUIRED NOW!
America is safe – when America is strong.Veterans for a Strong America is a non-partisan action organization dedicated to educating the public, members of Congress and the Executive Branch about our 5 Step Mission to make America Strong:
We must grow the world’s strongest, most robust economy and cut spending in order to reduce the National Debt
We must strengthen and modernize America’s Military so that no adversary will even contemplate a challenge to our security and safety
We must Implement a common-sense national energy policy that will power America into the 21st century
We must re-build our intelligence community in order to prevent another 9-11
We must design a legal framework that allows America’s law enforcement agencies to prosecute terrorism on a global battlefield
President Obama has dismissed and derided the former military and intelligence officers who believe his administration passed out sensitive national security information for partisan gain. In a press conference yesterday, he said of the Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund and similar groups—“I don’t take these folks too seriously.”
Unsurprisingly, the White House has been quick to attack the men behind these accusations instead of explaining to the American people that this administration has not leveraged defense secrets for positive press reports. The best Obama was able to muster in his defense yesterday was “this kind of stuff springs up before election time.”
***
Though we will likely never find out the source of the leaks, President Obama appears more upset about them as a political liability than a possible threat to our national security. That alone is cause for concern.
This is merely based on an email from a Missouri GOP consultant to NRO’s Katrina Trinko:
“The buzz today is there is a last-ditch effort underway involving a swap with Ann Wagner,” the consultant writes. “Wagner is the nominee for Akin’s old congressional district and has long standing connections with many on the state committee given her deep involvement in the Party on the state and national levels. This allows a woman to replace Akin, which almost all agree is the wisest choice and gives Akin an opportunity to stay in public office by running for re-election.”
It would be a minor shake-up that would allow Todd Akin to save face and possibly keep his seat, but more importantly, put a popular Republican woman in the race against McCaskill for a seat Republicans have to win.
Senate Republicans, tea party republicans, conservative bloggers, conservative radio talk-show hosts, conservative pundits — EVERYONE but his seriously deluded sycophants know that Todd Akin is putting the future of the country in peril by staying in this race. He needs to bow out, or trade places with Ann Wagner before 5:00 pm today.
Via Jim Geraghty, take a look of the list of conservatives calling on Akin to withdraw.
Among the comments the NRSC is spotlighting this morning:
Radio/TV Host Sean Hannityurged Akin yesterday to reconsider running and reminded him that “elections are bigger than one person”
Radio Host Mark Levin similarly urged Akin to step aside saying this race is far too important to risk losing to the Democrats.
Columnist/Radio Host Dennis Prager penned a column for Townhall.com calling on his fellow pro-life leaders to join him in disavowing Akin’s remarks.
Columnist Charles Krauthammer on Fox News last night called Akin “toxic” and said “he’s got to go”
Radio Host Hugh Hewitt tweeted – “If Akin drops out and GOP wins Senate, he has career. If he stays in and GOP doesn’t win Senate, infamy and injury to prolife cause”
Author Ann Coulterpenned a column in Human Events calling on Akin to do the right thing and step aside for the good of the pro-life movement
National Review editorial boardcalled on Akin to step aside, writing in part, “Akin is a stalwart conservative and an honorable man, we regret to say that he inspires no such confidence”
Wall Street Journal editorial board also called on Akin to step aside, writing in part, “Having uttered one of the more offensive and ill-informed comments in recent years, Mr. Akin could cost his party a seat it is favored to win this November and thus possible control of the Senate.”
The Tea Party Expresscalled on Akin to step aside saying “It is critical that we defeat Senator Claire McCaskill in November, but it will be too difficult to achieve that with Todd Akin as the conservative alternative.”
His comments on Sunday were bad, but the fact that he’s bitterly clinging to his candidacy in the face of such overwhelming opposition, while citing the obviouslyfraudulent PPP pollas a reason to stay in the race convinces me that he is not up for this race.
El Rushbo echoed yours truly on his show, today, when he said, “I Don’t Want A Joe Biden On Our Side”.
Same thing I said in my conversation with a diehard Akin supporter on Twitter, last night:
@Rmueting It's not fair, but we don't get to have Joe Bidens in the Republican party. And we shouldn't want them, either.
Akin is scheduled to be on the Sean Hannity Show in the next hour.
UPDATE:
American CrossroadsPresident and CEO Steven Law released the following statement:
“Rep. Akin faces a simple choice: Will he help Democrats hold the McCaskill seat and potentially the Senate majority by staying in the race, or will he help Republicans defeat Barack Obama’s most reliable ally in the Senate by getting out?”
It’s a weak, “I am not a witch – I misspoke – please forgive me ad. As Gateway Punditquipped; “when your campaign reaches the point where you are forced to remind voters that you oppose rape, you know you have reached rock bottom.”
He misunderstands. The faux outrage is on the left. It’s mortification on the right. Mortification that a guy who believes women can self-terminate pregnancies, when raped, is jeopardizing our takeover of the Senate. The anger on the right for him is if he stays. He still has time to drop out. He still has time to put the country above his political aspirations. Then there will be forgiveness.
I think this infatuation some people have with defending politicians to the end is silly and not a healthy small ‘r’ republican value. These guys are chess pieces to me. If you have to sacrifice one or more to win the game then do it and win. The game here is control of the Senate (repealing ObamaCare, confirming judges, etc.) not vindicating some guy most of us couldn’t pick out of a lineup. This is about beating the Democrats at the ballot box, not shoving it to the “establishment” or the media.
We’re not Democrats- we don’t “circle the wagons” when one of ours screws up this badly. We can’t have any weak links – this is war against a ruthless, Alinsky-trained, progressive left that will exploit any weakness that we have on our side to the nth degree, and their allies in the media will help. In a year that Democrats are trying turn into a Republican “war on women” — we can’t have a weak link like Todd Akin.
For the country, Todd Akin – be a patriot and withdraw from the race.
This morning, Public Policy Polling races to tell us that “Missouri voters strongly disagree with the comments Todd Akin made about abortion over the weekend, but it hasn’t moved the numbers a whole lot in the Senate race. Akin leads Claire McCaskill by a single point, 44-43. That’s basically identical to our last poll of the contest in late May, which found Akin ahead by a 45-44 spread.”
Hit the link to find out how heavily weighted toward Republicans the poll was to get that result.
