Video: Former Reagan AG, Ed Meese: Bypassing Congress on Guns “an Impeachable Offense.”

This week, Obama will present 19 separate executive orders on gun control as well as press for legislative action on other anti gun proposals, according to the New York Times.

In a videotaped interview with Newsmax, Former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese III stated that Obama could easily be impeached if he bypassed Congress and enacted gun-control legislation by executive order.

More Republicans need to be saying this.

Former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese III declared in an exclusive Newsmax TV interview that President Barack Obama could easily be impeached if he bypassed Congress and enacted gun-control legislation by executive order.

Meese’s comments came on the same day President Obama told the White House press corp at the last news conference of his first term that he was reviewing actions, including issuing executive orders, where he could take action without congressional approval to confront gun violence in the nation. Obama said he would present a plan within days.

The options include stronger background checks, a meaningful ban on assault weapons, and limits on high-capacity ammunition magazines, Obama said, conceding that was unsure how such steps could pass Congress.

“I’m confident there are some steps we can take that don’t require legislation and that are within my authority as president,” Obama said.

“It would not be legal. It would not be constitutional,” Meese, who served under President Ronald Reagan, tells Newsmax. “And, indeed, if he tried to override the Second Amendment in any way, I believe it would be an impeachable offense.”

Meese, 81, is the Ronald Reagan Distinguished Fellow in Public Policy at the Heritage Foundation and is chairman of its Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. A close Reagan adviser, he also served on the National Security Council.

Yesterday, a Texas congressman threatened to bring up articles of impeachment if Obama moves ahead with his plan enact gun control measures by executive fiat.

Rep. Steve Stockman, a Republican from the Houston area, called Obama’s plans to skirt Congress and implement some controls administratively “an unconstitutional and unconscionable attack on the very founding principles of this republic.” He also threatened to defund the White House.

“I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment,” Stockman said.

Tomorrow, flanked by human shields, Obama will unveil a “concrete package” of gun control proposals which reportedly include “assault weapons” bans, high capacity ammunition magazine bans, and closing loopholes on background checks. (Those Americans who have been flocking to the gun stores to buy AR-15s aren’t looking so irrational now are they?)
White House reporter, Keith Koffler of WHD slammed the president for what he called  Obama’s Execrable Use of Children to Sell His Gun Proposals:

At Wednesday’s White House gun violence event, during which President Obama will unveil his gun control proposals, the props will be children who have written to Obama about their reactions to the shootings in Newtown.

Nothing tugs at the heartstrings more than children. Nothing could make Obama’s case more effectively than a crowd of innocent kids, hoping to avoid the fate of their unlucky peers in Connecticut.

It’s a disgrace to manipulate these children. But for a White House that portrays Republicans as heartless villains and that tore to shreds a good man named Mitt Romney, little is off limits.

Little is off limits – Would that we could say the same thing about the Republicans.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) gave an interview to the Christian Broadcasting Network in which he rather strongly denounced President Obama’s threats to impose gun control through executive orders.  ”I’m against having a king,” said the Senator.  ”I think having a monarch is what we fought the American Revolution over, and someone who wants to bypass the Constitution, bypass Congress, that’s someone who wants to act like a king or monarch.”

Maggie’s Notebook: Video A Nation Rises – If One Step Saves a Child, We Have an Obligation to Try – Says The Champion of Infanticide:

“If there’s even one step we can take to save another child, we have an obligation to try,” so said the most anti-life president in our history; so said the only man to champion infanticide and still rise to the Oval Office. Blackstone Films produced the video below with Obama’s post-Sandy-Hook speech drumming in the background. Tomorrow Obama has a press conference scheduled to reveal his gun control agenda, which will reportedly contain 19 Executive Orders. While Obama talks about gun control, he will be surrounded by school children at the podium with him. It’s creepy.
