According to RT, the Russian-based television network, the Navy Yard shooting in Washington DC that left at least
four seven 12 people dead and ten injured, may be related to United States foreign policy given that it was a military installation that was attacked and more than one gun man was involved. Approximately three thousand people work at the building, where the largest of the Navy’s command systems is situated.
RT’s political commentator, John Wight noted that the possibility should be “worrying the government authorities”.
On the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of al-Qaeda issued an audio message calling on Jihadists to engage in small-scale attacks on US soil.
He says that the US has fled Iraq and Afghanistan in “defeat”.
He goes on to emphasise the importance of so-called “lone-wolf”, or small-scale attacks as part of al-Qaeda’s strategy.
Such attacks, he argues, will have an economic impact above all.
“We must bleed America economically by provoking it, so that it continues its massive expenditures on security. America’s weak spot is its economy, which began to totter from the drain of its military and security expenditure,” he says.
More on the shooting, via CNN:
One suspect is dead after a shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, but two others may be on the loose, the D.C. police chief said Monday.
“The big concern for us right now is that we potentially have two other shooters that we have not located at this point,” Washington Police Chief Cathy Lanier told reporters.
Multiple people were killed in the shooting rampage, Lanier said, which sent police in SWAT team gear swarming to the scene Monday morning.
Hours later, Lanier said authorities were still looking for a white man and a black man in military-style clothing who could be connected to the shooting.
“We have no information to believe that either of those folks are military personnel, but we do have information that those individuals are wearing military-style uniforms,” she said.

This was a scheduled speech that most people figured he would postpone, being the tone deaf egomaniac that he is, he went ahead and delivered it anyway.
Emily Miller, Washington Times: Obama uses Naval Yard shooting to stoke fear, push anti-gun agenda:
Scaring the American public is one of President Obama’s favorite political tactics to get gun control. Just hours after the terrible shooting at the Naval Yard on Monday, Mr. Obama said that even though he didn’t have the facts, “We’re confronting — yet another — mass shooting. And today it happened on a military installation in our nation’s capital.”
The last mass shooting was over nine months ago at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. While we mourn every one of those children and educators lost that day — and today in Washington, D.C. — these events are not a cause for increased alarm.
A report by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Study (CRS) released in April showed there have been 78 public mass shootings in the last 30 years that claimed 547 lives. That averages to 18 victims a year.
To put that number in context, there were 8,583 murders by firearm in the U.S. in 2011, the most recent year for which we have figures from the FBI. And, there were 851 people accidentally killed by firearms in 2011, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The congressional report concluded that, “While tragic and shocking, public mass shootings account for few of the murders related to firearms that occur annually in the United States.”
Via Dallas News:
NBC News is reporting that the dead suspect in the Washington Navy Yard shootings is 34-year-old Fort Worth native Aaron Alexis, who had recently begun working as a civilian contractor.
At least 12 people were killed when as many as three gunmen opened fire Monday inside the Navy Yard, attacking office workers at a heavily guarded military facility in the heart of the nation’s capital.
Police were searching for two other men believed to have joined Alexis in the attack less than 4 miles from the White House. The suspects were reportedly disguised in military-style clothing, including one carrying a handgun and wearing a tan Navy-style uniform and a beret, D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier said. The other was said to carrying a long gun, wearing olive green garb.
