Your feel-good story of the day, via Big Government:
On Tuesday, the federal government closed down the World War II Memorial after a government shutdown went into effect. That did not stop an Honor Flight of World War II veterans from moving barriers to the memorial to visit anyway. They arrived to see the site barricaded, and a sign reading: “Because of the Federal Government SHUTDOWN, All National Parks Are CLOSED.” The vets simply walked into the grounds anyway. The Mississippi veterans went to their tower at the memorial to leave a wreath. They were joined by Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Steve King (R-IA). King said it was a “White House decision” to close the memorial in the first place.
Disregard the host who says that the shutdown was caused by the Republicans to begin with – I guess he hasn’t heard – #HarryReidsShutdown.
Ace is calling this “Shutdown theater”.
Shutdown theater is Obama’s penchant for making shutdowns worse than they need to be.
For example, the
CapitolPark Police doing more work than needed to erect barriers to entry to the WWII memorial in the Mall. No one “works” here; there are no Park Rangers. It’s a friggin’ monument. And it is policed by the CapitolPark Police, who are, of course, still on the job.
Nevertheless, Obama is doing Shutdown Theater so he had his Imperial Troops erect barriers to keep people from seeing it.
There’s more theater documented at the site.
Okay – so it’s the same thing they did with the sequester – made unnecessary, high profile, “painful” cuts that the public would notice so they could blame it on Republicans. Obama and Reid wanted this shut-down so they could play these games, and with the media’s help – they can successfully put the blame on the Republicans. This is part of their 2014 strategy. Along with voter fraud – which Atty Gen. Holder is helping them out with.
Via Charles C. Johnson, The Daily Caller: Obama admin. knew about WWII veterans’ request and rejected it:
“We got the heads up that they will be barricaded and specifically asked for an exception for these heroes,” Palazzo told TheDC. “We were denied and told, ‘It’s a government shutdown, what do you expect?’ when we contacted the liaison for the White House.”
Palazzo’s office was in touch with the heads of the National Park Service, the Department of the Interior and the Capitol Police. He says all these officials rejected his request to allow the veterans, many of whom are octogenarians and some of whom are in poor health, to attend.
Palazzo, a Gulf War Marine veteranwho has participated in all five of the Honor Flights, blames the White House for making it harder on veterans and playing politics. “At first I thought it was a huge bureaucratic oversight,” Palazzo told The Daily Caller, “but having talked with the officials I can’t help but think this was politically motivated. Honor Flights, which bring WWII veterans to the nation’s memorials, are planned a year in advance and cost anywhere between $80,000 to $100,000. How low can you get with playing politics over our nation’s veterans?”
Ace: “There are no “schedule hours” for scenery. The monument does not close on weekends, or at night.”
Because it’s scenery.
It is a feature of the landscape.
And yet these See You Next Tuesdays attempted to create a fake “entryway” into a landscape feature so they could block it off and say “the Building is closed.”
And then they doubled down.
Note The Lack of Walls and Gates and Barriers: From @slublog, here’s what we’re talking about.
Look at the gigantic “entrance” — I don’t know if you can call it an “entrance” when it’s just a huge area of No Walls out in the middle of a grassy lawn.
Think about all the work it took to turn an open air landscape feature into a blocked off Instant National Park Which Is Now Shut Down You Guys.
Yep – it’s the same Sequester theatrics reconditioned for the shutdown.
It backfired then, we can make it backfire again.
Very badly done, Regime. Very poor optics….for YOU.
