al Qaeda Retakes Fallujah

Turns out al Qaeda is not “on the run.” It’s not “on its heels.” It’s not “decimated.”  But you already knew that. But did you know the extent to which it was ascendant?

After many years of war, Iraq had become relatively stable until Obama decision to withdraw American troops. Now, while the president golfs and body-surfs in Hawaii, our hard-fought military victory in Iraq has been reversed. …The black flag of Al Qaeda is flying over Fallujah.  

The capture of Fallujah came amid an explosion of violence across the western desert province of Anbar in which local tribes, the Iraqi security forces and al-Qaeda militants have been fighting one another for days in a confusingly chaotic three- way war.

Elsewhere in the province, local tribal militias claimed they were gaining ground against the al-Qaeda militants who surged into urban areas from their desert strongholds earlier this week after clashes erupted between local residents and the Iraqi security forces.

Speaking of the blood of our service members, Afghanistan is preparing to release hundreds of prisoners from Bagram prison – which we’ve turned over to Karzai – many of whom have been involved in attacks against our troops. The Taliban will soon be back in control of that place anyway as the United States exits without having finished the job.

Syria, where we once could have made a meaningful difference, is in chaos, a magnet and a proving ground for al Qaeda rebels. Libya has become another dangerous haven for terrorists.

Egypt only stabilized, somewhat, when the military decided to ignore Obama and take matters into its own hands.

Obama did keep his campaign promise to end the war in Iraq and “bring the boys home.” Not letting them finish the job, not caring if our victories would be reversed, not caring if American blood was spilled in vain. All of this was predictable. In fact, it was predicted.
