Rand Paul Displays Son’s Erroneously Sent Medicaid Card on ‘This Week’

We’ve all seen reports of people getting forced into Medicaid against their will.  The latest example of this is  Senator Rand Paul, who told George Stephanopoulos  this morning, “we didn’t try to get him (his son) Medicaid, I’m trying to pay for his insurance,” Paul said, “but they automatically enrolled him in Medicaid. For a month they wouldn’t talk to him because they said they weren’t sure he existed. He had to go down to the welfare office, prove his existence, then next thing we know, we get a Medicaid card.”

It’s no secret that the Regime wants to get as many people in the middle class dependent on government as possible – but signing up the son of an outspoken  libertarian ObamaCare opponent? This is a major gaffe.

  1. This Medicaid element is horrifying. Paul can get his son out of it, but normal Americans cannot get out of Medicaid once forced to “sign up” (i.e. enrolled against their will or wishes). The expansion means that tens of millions of lower-income Americans who would never have qualified now do, and those who are home owners (or have any personal property/estate) will have their estate seized by the feds when they die. No exceptions (except, I guess, for senator’s sons).

This means that people who worked all their lives to attain some modicum of an estate to pass to their children–thus keeping them out of pure government-dependent poverty–will have nothing to pass on. I can’t even begin to express how outrageous and heavy-handed this is in the destruction of the lower middle (and yes, now, into the middle) classes. Worst of all: it’s by design.

  2. Good point about the middle class estate seizures we’ll be seeing not too far into the future. . Darrell Issa really should be looking into why people are getting dropped into Medicaid without their consent. This is outrageous.

  3. This is something the libertarians and the Tea Party can get together on and drive home because to allow this basically kills the American Dream of home ownership and independence.
