Fox News Exclusive: Transcripts Show Obama Knew Benghazi Was A Terrorist Attack – Not A Spontaneous Demonstration – Right From the Beginning

Fox News has the exclusive on the 450 pages of sworn testimony, under wraps until now, that reveal  what America’s highest ranking officers and the president knew about Benghazi from the earliest moments.

The transcripts reveal that top defense officials briefed Obama on an attack – not a reaction to video or a demonstration.

James Rosen reported:

Minutes after the American consulate in Benghazi came under assault on Sept. 11, 2012, the nation’s top civilian and uniformed defense officials — headed for a previously scheduled Oval Office session with President Obama — were informed that the event was a “terrorist attack,” declassified documents show. The new evidence raises the question of why the top military men, one of whom was a member of the president’s Cabinet, allowed him and other senior Obama administration officials to press a false narrative of the Benghazi attacks for two weeks afterward.

Gen. Carter Ham, who at the time was head of AFRICOM, the Defense Department combatant command with jurisdiction over Libya, told the House in classified testimony last year that it was him who broke the news about the unfolding situation in Benghazi to then-Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The tense briefing — in which it was already known that U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens had been targeted and had gone missing — occurred just before the two senior officials departed the Pentagon for their session with the commander in chief.

According to declassified testimony obtained by Fox News, Ham — who was working out of his Pentagon office on the afternoon of Sept. 11 — said he learned about the assault on the consulate compound within 15 minutes of its commencement, at 9:42 p.m. Libya time, through a call he received from the AFRICOM Command Center.

“My first call was to General Dempsey, General Dempsey’s office, to say, ‘Hey, I am headed down the hall. I need to see him right away,'” Ham told lawmakers on the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation on June 26 of last year. “I told him what I knew. We immediately walked upstairs to meet with Secretary Panetta.”

No these guys didn’t politicize national security at all….

Reminder of Jay Carney’s pathetic BS spin circa Sept 19, 2012, repeating the Administration line that it was not a pre-planned attack just “bad actors” who had come on the scene of a protest armed with RPGs and mortars. “We prefer to have an investigation…” he told reporters, hoping to ward off more questions.

One reporter, clearly not buying it, said, “so a random crowd that had come together with their heavy weapons – got insulted by the film, and decided to – you know – blow up…”

Carney doubled down with, “there has certainly been precedent in the past where bad actors  –  extremists who are heavily armed who have exploited situations that have developed in order to attack Americans…”

Via my report from last May:  After Months of Dishonest Spinning on Benghazi, Jay Carney Clings to ARB Report (Video) for more of JC’s dishonest spinning. Go ahead, click on the link and relive the lies.

Thanks, MSM for doing your due diligence on that story.

How is it that this mendacious miscreant can still hold his head high in DC. Why is anything he says in that WH briefing room still taken seriously?

Former UN Ambassador John Bolton reacted this morning to a new poll that points to deep distrust between the American people and the Obama administration over the Benghazi attack.

Issa Explains Why He’s Against A Select Committee On Benghazi (Video)

Darrell Issa appeared on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, Monday,  to talk about Obama’s continuing scandals. The latest ATF scandal, which involves manufacturing crimes using mentally challenged individuals, he called “Fast and Furious revisited.”

Issa made clear that the ATF never acts alone, these are multi-agency operations.: “This is President Obama’s Dept of Justice that continues to support these rogue operations that lead to harm in communities,” Issa charged.

in response to the question of why a select committee has not been  been appointed, he noted that ” the IRS scandal is a good candidate for a Special Prosecutor.” But in the case of Select Committees, “the fact is, I have all the same powers and have used the same authorities as a Select Committee would use. This administration is slow.”

He argued that the Obama administration does the same type of stonewalling  to ALL the committees that have lawfully subpoenaed material.

“And I think that’s where we’re beginning to have some real headway, he continued. “An Obama appointee – a federal judge, has begun in fact going forward to order the administration to turn over the false statements and the information related to it in Fast and Furious. It may break loose – the whole idea that this administration cannot deliver us what we want, lie to us whenever they want to, and then slow roll any kind of discovery relating to information about false statements.”

Issa plans to pursue, the Fast and Furious, Benghazi and IRS scandals, in 2014, set to be his last year as Chairman of the Oversight and Reform Committee.

Monday Catch-Up: Rebelling Against The ObamaCare Trainwreck

Ace of Spades HQ: New York Times, Washington Post Finally Report What Everyone Else Has Known for At Least Six Months: Obamacare Has Thrown Insurance Into Chaos, and This is All Just a Prelude to the Next Big Batch of Cancellations:

Or, as Obamacare defenders call cancellations followed by roiling chaos: “transitioning.”

The New York Times reported (on Saturday, the least-read day of the news week) that the insurance market was in chaos, with insurers not knowing who their supposed insured clients even are. Digested at Hot Air:

In addition to the difficulties many face in proving they have coverage, patients are also having a hard time figuring out whether particular doctors are affiliated with their health insurance plan. Doctors themselves often do not know if they are in the network of providers for plans sold on the exchange. But interviews with doctors, hospital executives, pharmacists and newly insured people around the country suggest that the biggest challenge so far has been verifying coverage. A surge of enrollments in late December, just before the deadline for coverage to take effect, created backlogs at many state and federal exchanges and insurance companies in processing applications. As a result, many of those who enrolled have yet to receive an insurance card, policy number or bill.

Many are also having trouble reaching exchanges and insurance companies to confirm their enrollment or pay their first month’s premium. Doctors’ offices and pharmacies, too, are spending hours on the phone trying to verify patients’ coverage, sometimes to no avail.

ObamaCare SuperFan Ezra Klein interviewed Obamacare critic and insurance industry executive (i.e., someone who actually knows something) Bob Laszewski and heard similar grim tidings.

The Washington Examiner: What if Americans rebel against the Obamacare mandate?:

The Obama administration is trying to persuade millions of uninterested, or perhaps reluctant, Americans to purchase health insurance through the Obamacare exchanges. But the heart of Obamacare is coercion. If Americans fail do what the law’s Democratic authors believe is best, the federal government will punish them, through the progressively higher penalties of the individual mandate, until it hurts more not to buy coverage than it does to give up and purchase it.

But what if many of those Americans rebel? Even if they know having health insurance is better than not having it, what if they refuse to be forced to buy the kind of coverage dictated by the government — which may not really meet their needs — at prices they don’t want to pay? What then?

It’s called civil disobedience, and we may be witnessing it on a massive scale.

The Conversation: Claim that 4 Million Enrolled in Medicaid Under Obamacare is Extremely Misleading:

It appears that most of the Medicaid numbers the administration is claiming come from a) states which did not expand Medicaid under Obamacare or b) previously enrolled individuals who were being renewed and would have been renewed in any case. The actual number of people who can be said to have enrolled because of Obamacare is probably fairly small. No doubt the administration has an idea what that number is but they aren’t saying.

Weasel Zippers: Obama Regime To Reimburse Insurance Companies For Obamacare Losses Up To $1 TRILLION…

Via Weekly Standard:

Robert Laszewski—a prominent consultant to health insurance companies—recently wrote in a remarkably candid blog post that, while Obamacare is almost certain to cause insurance costs to skyrocket even higher than it already has, “insurers won’t be losing a lot of sleep over it.”  How can this be?  Because insurance companies won’t bear the cost of their own losses—at least not more than about a quarter of them.  The other three-quarters will be borne by American taxpayers.

For some reason, President Obama hasn’t talked about this particular feature of his signature legislation.  Indeed, it’s bad enough that Obamacare is projected by the Congressional Budget Office to funnel $1,071,000,000,000.00 (that’s $1.071 trillion) over the next decade (2014 to 2023) from American taxpayers, through Washington, to health insurance companies.  It’s even worse that Obamacare is trying to coerce Americans into buying those same insurers’ product (although there are escape routes).  It’s almost unbelievable that it will also subsidize those same insurers’ losses.

But that’s exactly what it will do—unless Republicans take action.  As Laszewski explains, Obamacare contains a “Reinsurance Program that caps big claim costs for insurers (individual plans only).”  He writes that “in 2014, 80% of individual costs between $45,000 and $250,000 are paid by the government [read: by taxpayers], for example.”

OpenMarket.Org: Obama Administration Undermines School Safety, Pressures Schools to Adopt Racial Quotas in Student Discipline:

Crime rates are not the same across different racial categories, and student misconduct ratesaren’t, either. The Supreme Court ruled many years ago that such racial disparities don’t prove racism or unconstitutional discrimination. But in guidance released last week by the Education and Justice Departments, the Obama administration signaled that it will hold school districts liable for such racial disparities under federal Title VI regulations. In the long run, the only practical way for school districts to comply with this guidance is to tacitly adoptunconstitutional racial quotas in school discipline. This will result in increased school violence, discrimination in discipline against white and Asian students, an increased racial achievement gap that harms black students, and more white flight from inner-city schools. Eventually, private and public colleges will be affected, not just school districts, since Title VI bans racial discrimination not just in the public schools, but in higher education as well.

The administration made clear that it views racial disparities in student discipline rates, which exist in virtually all school systems, as generally being the product of racism by school officials, not “more frequent or more serious misbehavior by students of color.” Moreover, it also made clear that even if the school district proves itself innocent of racism, it will still be held liable for“racially disparate impact” – non-racist conduct that unintentionally has a discriminatory effecton a racial group, even though it treats individuals of all races alike – unless the school district shows that its discipline not only furthers an important educational purpose, but alsodoes not lead to more suspensions of minorities than other (more ideologically-fashionable) methods of discipline that the government views as equally effective.

J. Christian Adams, PJ Media: True the Vote, Judicial Watch Reach Voter Roll Clean Up Settlement With Ohio:

True the Vote and Judicial Watch have reached a “historic” settlement with Ohio to ensure clean voter rolls in that state.  The settlement is historic because it marks the first case brought by a private party under Section 8 of Motor Voter against a state to require the clean up of corrupted state voter rolls.   Last fall, the American Civil Rights Unionreached settlements with two Mississippi counties under the same voter roll clean up law.

As PJ Media has reported for years, private parties have been forced to bring these cases because Eric Holder’s Justice Department has lawlessly shut down enforcement of Section 8 of Motor Voter, allowing millions of dead and ineligible voters to clog the rolls.

The Daily Caller: Psychologist teaches mainstream Americans how to beat liberals at their own game [VIDEO]

For Dr. Timothy Daughtry, a clinical psychologist who has co-authored a book for mainstream Americans, too many citizens think they have done their civic duty if they show up to vote and return to their normal lives.

To Daughtry, they are “like summer tourists in politics,” whereas the progressives are like the “locals.”

“We’ve got to get active now or we are going to lose this republic,” Daughtry says. The danger is, he says, that “our country is being taken away from us right under our very noses.”

He believes that a historic debate is being played out about whether Americans are citizens or subjects of their government.

Conservatives are on defense too much to succeed, he thinks, but also believes that help is on the way as citizens are waking up to the problems caused by both political parties.

“We have to make the left start defending socialism instead of us defending liberty,” Daughtry said.

Mainstream America started waking up when Republicans and Democrats in Washington embracing bailouts, which he says “fundamentally struck Americans as wrong.”

Then, the widespread unpopularity of Obamacare became surprisingly irrelevant to a government that “rammed it through anyway.”

Newsbusters: 10 Best ‘Lone Survivor’ Takedowns of Lib Media:

The film “Lone Survivor, which ” took in $38.5 million at the box office its opening weekend is based on a 2010 book by Luttrell that tells the tragic story of a 2005 operation in which the three other members of Luttrell’s SEAL team, along with 17 other special ops warriors, were killed. The story turned on the team’s agonized decision to turn lose some Afghan goat herders who had stumbled onto its concealed position. As the SEALs had feared, the freed civilians went straight to the Taliban, precipitating the battle.

While the movie recounts the fateful decision, it doesn’t explicitly tell the audience that a big part of deciding not to kill the goat herders was the certain knowledge that, “The media in the United States of America would crucify us,” in Luttrell’s words.

To kill or not kill the goat herders was a horrible choice to have to make – a moral, ethical and military dilemma that weighed the lives of the civilians against the lives of the team. Luttrell was rightly furious at having to to decide knowing that the SEALs would never get a fair shake from a hostile news media.

Throughout the book, Luttrell registered distrust of liberals in the media and in Washington – and did so with a very direct eloquence. Here are 10 of the best examples from the book. (Page numbers correspond to the Kindle Edition.)

Watcher of Weasels: Forum: How Would You Change Public Education in The U.S.?

Every week on Monday morning , the Council and our invited guests weigh in at the Watcher’s Forum, short takes on a major issue of the day, the culture, or daily living. This week’s question:How Would You Change Public Education in The U.S.?

The Independent Sentinel: I don’t like the idea of paying for two public school systems running alongside one another but public education needs competition. The union leaders block change and progress if they think it in any way inhibits their goals, which do not include the children except as an after-thought.

I do think private education, such as privately-funded Charter Schools, can work. I don’t mind vouchers in poor areas where the schools are failing.

Common Core could have been the answer. Instead it’s an abomination. The testing now tied into it will nationalize education. The leftists – and I do mean hard-left – have already taken advantage and plugged their propaganda into the Core-Aligned curricula. There are too many tests and, while I agree that more objective measures of teacher performance are needed, these standardized tests aren’t it.

GrEaT sAtAn”S gIrLfRiEnD: In no partic order – totally reshape the Dept of Edu to nigh inexistence, reshape teacher unions, implement text book reform for grade school with an asset kicking update to the famous 1879 version of the McGuffey Readers. The American History courses would be heavily influenced by the incredible “How America Got It Right”.

College Edu would get a serious kick at the campus bookstore – no more $3.00 pencils etc or Professors changing the foreward in $200 books they wrote and require every semester. A general jihad on campus bookstores and college tuition.

And this would prob never work – yet tenured teachers would have swear an oath of allegiance in public to Great Satan and her constitution a lot like the military.

Seton Motley, Redstate: Why Are the Media’s ‘Consumer Interest Groups’ So Leftist and Anti-Consumer?

The Media’s double standard when describing political advocacy organizations is as obvious as it is unsurprising.

The Media rarely if ever identify Leftist entities as Leftist – instead assigning them non-ideological descriptives.  Often, it is the ridiculous “consumer interest group” – as if the anti-free market side of the equation is pro-consumer, and the defenders of freedom are against the purchasing public.

Never mind that no one is more pro-consumer than a private company – after all, they are the ones trying to please as many consumers as possible.  It would then stand to reason that the organizations defending private companies from government overreach are also pro-consumer.

Because these “consumer interest groups” are in fact “government interest groups” – every “solution” they push results in larger, more interfering government.  Which is about as anti-consumer as you can get.

How’s ObamaCare treating consumers?  The Veterans Administration?  The Department of Motor Vehicles?  Would you rather head there – or to Amazon.com or your neighborhood deli?

Meanwhile, the Media almost always identify Conservative groups as conservative – that is, when they mention them at all.  Often, marketplace political stories only quote Leftist groups – and company representatives.

Which is itself biased.  It depicts the debate as a struggle between the plucky little “consumer interest” groups (who actually often have very large [George Soros] money behind them) – and the evil Industry Titans.

There are perhaps dozens of conservative/free market groups out there – yet the Media often can’t seem to find room for any of them in their stories.

Jack Cashill: Obama’s Magical Kenyan Mystery Trip:

In doing research for his Obama biography, Maraniss questioned Obama in the Oval Office about this research-oriented Kenyan trip.

Obama was at pains to insist that the story he told in “Dreams” about his 1988 African pilgrimage was true as written and that he “did not compress” it, meaning meld it with experiences from a later trip.

This latest trip, confirmed Obama, was for “fact-checking” and enabled him to do “more background on things like Kenyan history.”

As he has often done, Maraniss left a potentially revealing story on the table. According to all accounts, Obama made only two trips to Africa before his election to the Senate in 2004: the first one in 1988 recounted in “Dreams” and the second one with Michelle in 1992.

In his Oval Office discussion with Maraniss, Obama makes no mention of Michelle accompanying him on the fact-checking trip. Besides, in 1992, Obama was still under contract with Simon & Schuster to write a book on race and voting rights.

There are a few possible explanations for the obvious holes in this account. An unlikely one is that Ferris incorrectly recalled Obama’s return trip to Kenya, and Obama compounded this lapse with his own chronologically confused account to Maraniss.

A second possible explanation, an intriguing one, is that Ferris and Obama remembered correctly, that Obama did make a third trip to Kenya in 1994 or early 1995, and Obama chose to tell no one about it.

A third possibility is that Obama lied to Ferris about making a return trip to Kenya, possibly to show how serious he was about getting his facts straight.

Instead of going to Africa, Obama may have contented himself with going to the local library and pillaging the memoirs of longtime Kenya resident Kuki Gallmannn

Cashill talked about his latest findings with Peter Boyle of Denver’s KNUS:

SCOTUS: Oral Arguments On Obama’s Illegal Recess Appointments Not Going Well For The Regime

I don’t know how they would, if there is any justice left in this world .

Ace has a good rundown of the proceedings, thus far. Apparently, even Obama’s own appointees are dubious of the Regime’s arguments.

Obama claims, get this, that his Constitutional powers grow when he decides a coequal branch of government is being “intransigent” and failing to give him everything he wants.

The argument did not seem to persuade most of the Court. Even the liberal members seemed wary of the claim:

The court battle between the Obama administration and Senate Republicans is an outgrowth of the increasing partisanship and political stalemate that have been hallmarks of Washington over the past 20 years, and especially since Obama took office in 2009.Indeed, Justice Elena Kagan seized on the political dispute to make the point to Verrilli that “congressional intransigence” to Obama nominees may not be enough to win the court fight.

Kagan, Verrilli’s predecessor as Obama’s top Supreme Court lawyer, suggested that it “is the Senate’s role to determine whether they’re in recess.”

Much more at the link.

Weasel Zippers is reporting more bad news for Team O; Supreme Court Justice Scalia Rips Obama’s Abuse of Executive Power During Oral Arguments On Illegal Recess Appointments…

Justice Antonin Scalia on Monday tore into President Barack Obama’s use of recess appointments to staff government agencies when the Senate is unofficially on recess.

During oral arguments, Scalia shot back at an argument by U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli that the Constitution’s recess appointments clause is ambiguous enough to validate Obama’s temporary appointments.

“It’s been assumed to be ambiguous by self-interested presidents,” Scalia said, to “oohs” and laughs in the court room.

Scalia argued emphatically that the text of the Constitution does not permit presidents to appoint individuals to government agencies during pro forma sessions — when the Senate technically gavels in and out to fulfill a constitutional requirement, but does not conduct any business. He suggested the power ought to be restricted to official recesses.

Jonah Goldberg discussed the case on Fox News, this morning.

The IRS Is Poised To Silence Conservatives Again – What You Can Do (Video)

Last year, the IRS scandal shocked the nation when it became apparent that the Obama administration had weaponized the IRS to target its political enemies. According to some analysts, the political suppression of tea party groups from 2010 through 2012, easily cost Mitt Romney the election.

What the Regime was caught doing, last year, they’ve now codified into law.

Via Thunderclap:

The Internal Revenue Service has quietly announced a new rule that strictly limits the ability of 501(c)(4), tax-exempt organizations from working on their core missions in the months leading up to federal, state, and local elections. The proposed regulations would prohibit these organizations from engaging in candidate-related political activity, which, by the proposed rule’s definition, includes any mention of a candidate’s name or political party even if presented in a non-political context. Further, organizations would have to ensure that any references to candidates in past communications are not publicly available, including online, during the pre-election window. These regulations would, in effect, prohibit organizations from providing the public with candidate comparisons and voting records, engaging in get-out-the-vote activities, or encouraging informed civic participation, among other activities. They would severely limit both the organizations’ First Amendment free speech and the public’s ability to hold elected officials accountable for their actions.

Cleta Mitchell,  a partner in the Washington-based law firm Foley & Lardner LLP, has produced a YouTube video to explain that the goal of the IRS is to limit the free speech of conservative groups:

“This is a real assault on the First Amendment rights of American citizens, and we need to do everything we can to stop the IRS from implementing these new rules,” Mitchell says.

The proposed rule change does not apply to labor unions or trade associations because as Cleta notes, “the Obama administration is not looking for ways to restrain labor unions from using member dues to conduct similar activities.”

The establishment GOP and the tea party must stand together in fighting this latest abuse of power.

Cleta Mitchell is urging conservatives groups and individuals to file comments with the IRS right away, arguing it is “impractical, burdensome and unacceptable for the IRS to interject itself into the workings of every citizens group in the country.”

The legally constituted function of the IRS, Mitchell argues, is to collect tax revenues, “not to snoop and trample on First Amendment rights of the citizens.”

At stake this November is the possibility conservative tax-exempt groups campaigning for conservative Republican candidates for Congress might increase the Republican majority in the House and grab enough seats in the Senate to topple the current Democratic Party majority, she explains.

The Democrats in Congress appear this year to be particularly vulnerable given the debacle witnessed by the nation in the Obamacare implementation plus increasing economic data that shows job growth slowing, with historic numbers of Americans dropping out of the labor force.

How to file comments opposing IRS proposed rule

Conservative groups or individuals may submit comments electronically opposing the proposed rule changes at Regulations.gov, searching for the citation IRS REG-134417-13, an Internet search that yields a page entitled “Guidance for Tax-Exempt Social Welfare Organization on Candidate-Related Political Activities.”

The proposed rules can be found published in the Federal Register here, again under the title “Guidance for Tax-Exempt Social Welfare Organization on Candidate-Related Political Activities,” dated Nov. 29, 2013.

In a fact sheet Mitchell is distributing to conservatives, Mitchell is advising clients to file comments before the deadline on Feb. 27, 2014, to a series of new regulations the IRS proposes to implement with the goal of making sure conservative organizations with 501(c)4 status are prohibited before the upcoming mid-term elections in November 2014 from any activity associated with supporting a political candidate or influencing the outcome of an election.

“Conservative groups that do not submit comments to the IRS opposing these rule changes before the Feb. 27 deadline will not have standing to participate in the final rule-determination process required by law before the rules are implemented,” Mitchell explained.

Obama has a track record of this type of political thuggery.

In May of 2011, I wrote, Obama Still Poised To Silence Critics:

Very early in Obama’s presidency, on February 19, 2009 to be exact, I wrote a  post about how this thin skinned president was poised to silence critics of his regime.

We already knew about Obama’s history of intimidation, and character assassination.  We knew how he had tried to destroy his political enemies – at least regular readers of this site know, because I covered it while it was happening, here, and here, and here. While projecting an outward appearance of near messianic magnanimity, his underlings, lawyers, and political allies were always working feverishly to steamroll over critics, (and plaintiffs).

Mark Hyman of  The American Spectator wrote about Obama’s Chicago brand of hardball politics, recently in an article entitled, Obama’s Enemies List. As many of us feared, the “Chicago way” has found a home in The White House:

In only his third full day as the 44th president Obama personally went on the offensive against a media personality. On January 23rd, Obama warned Congressional Republicans against listening to Rush Limbaugh. The man who offered to sit down with Holocaust denier and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without any preconditions whatsoever views an American radio talk show host as a dangerous threat.

In precedent-setting action, Obama moved his director of political affairs, a highly partisan post, from the Old Executive Office Building into the West Wing. Political operative Patrick Gaspard was given White House access not experienced by his predecessors. Obama official Shauna Daly, a non-lawyer and career opposition researcher described as a “partisan dirt-digger,” was assigned to the White House counsel office. The move signals not only a new low in partisan activities, but suggests the office assignment may be intended to hide Daly’s political activities under the guise of the counsel’s attorney-client privileges.

Fast forward over two years later, and nobody even bats an eye at White House enemies listsliesthreatsintimidation, bullyingcorruption, and  opposition research of anyone who looks like a threat to His Highness.

This is the new normal.

Let’s not put up with “the new normal”, folks.

Update:

The Right Scoop:  UGH: Sarah Palin’s father HARASSED SIX TIMES by IRS since 2008…

Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer criticizes the Obama administration for using government agencies as political tools on Monday’s Laura Ingraham radio show:

“I mean, the politicization of these agencies, particularly Justice, is truly a scandal,” Krauthammer said. “Again the press isn’t that interested. It gets slightly upset when the Department of Justice is reading AP’s emails because it’s about them. But the minute it’s not about them – it’s about IRS or conservatives or Tea Party, they have a day of interest and then it’s gone.”

Fox News Insiders: Democrats Play For Keeps, Republicans Play Beanbag (Video)

On Sunday’s edition of Political Insiders, Pat Caddell, Doug Schoen, and John LeBoutillier with Harris Faulkner discussed “Duty”, the explosive new book by Bob Gates, and Chris Christie’s BridgeGate scandal.

Schoen characterized the reaction to Gates’ book as a firestorm because of the revelation that political aides have been making foreign policy in unprecedented ways. Caddell reminded viewers of what he said about Tom Donilon being the chief leaker in 2012, when foreign policy secrets  were pouring out of the White House to help the president. Gates accused Donilon of having poisoned the atmosphere – and having the nerve to call 4 Star Generals – something absolutely unheard of before now.

“It is unbelievable how political this was,” Caddell said. Also unbelievable was how the media avoided covering the WH leaks like the major scandal it was.

LeBoutillier added,  “the idea of political people involving themselves in national security issues for political reasons is really a corruption of the system.”

He noted that back in the day someone like Henry Kissinger ran foreign policy.

“He wasn’t over in campaign meetings, deciding campaign strategy.” He said there was a wall between the two things, “until this administration.”

Faulkner brought up some text from the book that should come as no surprise to anyone who has been studying this president’s character, or lack thereof over the years: “one quality I missed in Obama, was passion, especially when it came to the two wars. In my presence, Bush, unlike his father, was pretty unsentimental… but he was passionate about the war in Iraq; and on occasion, at a Medal of Honor ceremony, or the like, I would see his eyes well up. I worked for Obama longer than Bush, and I never saw his eyes well up.”

Just a devastating indictment, that. 3/4 of the casualties in Afghanistan have been under his dry-eyed watch.

Caddell went on to ask the $64,000 question: “why didn’t Gates resign? When is somebody going to resign over principle the way Cy Vance did?

They segued over to the Christie scandal about which  LeBoutillier thought the biggest take-away was how muted the Republicans have been in defense of the embattled governor.

“In New Jersey, they (the Republicans) don’t like him, and they’re afraid of him, he claimed. “He’s steamrolled over a lot of Republicans….”

Democrat Doug Schoen piped in , “isn’t it John, that they’re seeing a guy who embraced President Obama during the last week of the election, during the hurricane clean up? He’s a moderate Republican, and this is, bottom line – payback.”

“But in New Jersey,” Leboutllier insisted, “Republicans have had a tough relationship with him.”

And the fact of the matter is – Republicans don’t know for sure whether or not Christie’s hands are clean in this. It may turn out that they’re not. One thing Republicans have, which the vast majority of  Democrats lack, is integrity. We’re not circling the wagons for someone who may turn out to be corrupt. And yeah – the romantic interlude on the NJ beach with Obama didn’t help him with fellow Republicans, either.

Leave it to Caddell, though, to cut to the chase. “What STUNS me about it though – and this really bothers me,” he said, “is the Democratic party is going after Christie with hook and tong – the DOJ, they’re talking impeachment….” Compared to all of Obama’s scandals, Caddell suggested it was no big shakes, but the Republicans investigate Obama’s scandals like the “three blind mice.”

“The fury with which the Democrats are going after Christ Christie in four days, just like that!” Leboutllier insisted, snapping his fingers. “They’ve got committees, subpoenas flying all over the place…..we’re NINE months into the IRS scandal. We’re a year and a half since Benghazi, we have 179 Congressmen saying ‘please, Speaker Boehner, have a Select Committee to get to the bottom of it – and by the way, it might hurt Hillary’, and they they don’t do a thing.”

Schoen concluded, “the Democrats play for keeps, the Republicans play beanbag.”

Sure wish I understood why.

The Conversation: Chairman Issa To Pursue IRS, Benghazi and Fast And Furious Scandals In 2014:

The Hill is reporting that Rep. Darrell Issa will be pursuing the IRS scandal, the Benghazi attack and the lethally stupid Fast and Furious operation in 2014 – which will likely be his last year as the House GOP’s chief investigator.

Issa sounded a cautionary note that the investigations might not conclude while he has the gavel.

“The administration wraps up investigations. We are done when we are done … there shouldn’t be any sort of effort to load in or unload” before his term limit of six years as the top Republican on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee ends in December.

Rep. John Mica (Fla.), who is the favorite to replace Issa as Chairman, told The Hill that he hopes to “have a shot at” the gavel if he gets reelected, and the GOP continues to control the House.

Key Oversight and Reform member Rep. Jason Chaffetz  told the Hill that “there’s a lot more to come” on Benghazi, as well as “investigations from healthcare to the IRS to Fast and Furious.”

Issa said, “I’d like to have Fast and Furious be a closed case,” noting that the courts are still reviewing access-to-documents disputes between Republicans and the administration.
