A group of lawmakers appointed by Speaker John Boehner is preparing an emergency spending bill to deal with the immigration influx on the border. The bill, which is planned for consideration this August, will recommend deploying the National Guard, amending a 2008 law requiring a lengthy deportation process, bringing in temporary judges to reduce a legal backlog and new border security measures.

Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), the leader of the working group, briefed Republicans at a closed-door meeting Tuesday, reporting on their trip to Guatemala and Honduras over the weekend where they met with each country’s president and from which tens of thousands of unaccompanied children are streaming across the southern U.S. border.
“The presidents of both countries, I met with them, our group met with them, they want their children back,” he said. “They’re saying, ‘please, send our children back!’” said Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ), a member of the working group and a key conservative lawmaker.
On the trip, the group was briefed by U.S. general John Kelly on the Mexico-Guatamala border. While witnessing individuals openly swim across the river border there, Kelly told lawmakers that drug cartels – some involved in financing terrorism operations – were directing and reaping the profits from sophisticated smuggling operations that had advertised the leniency of U.S. laws.
“There’s no doubt that the message went out, go cross the border now, the United States won’t do anything about it,” Granger told reporters after briefing colleagues. “That came, primarily, from the coyotes who were transporting these kids. These coyotes, it’s really something we weren’t prepared from, they sort of advertised – they actually advertise – as social workers. We’re going to help you take your kids out of the poverty and the danger they have in these countries and put ’em in the United States where they will receive an education and be taken care of.”
Granger said she was surprised to learn that in Guatemala coyotes are charging between $6,000-$9,000 per person. Salmon said the group was told one coyote was making $50,000 a week smuggling children into the United States.
Since October more than 57,000 unaccompanied minors have been detained illegally crossing the southern border into the U.S. The vast majority of the illegal minors are from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) introduced legislation on Monday which would allow U.S. Border Patrol agents to turn around many of the kids arriving at the U.S. – Mexico border.
On the Sean Hannity radio show on, Monday, Border Patrol agent Gabe Pacheco and National ICE Council President Chris Crane said that the southern border was “wide open” and a “perfect storm.”
Via Breitbart TV:
Pacheco stated re-deploying agents to process illegal immigrants has created “certain areas along the border you have it where it’s just wide open,” which he said endangers the safety of agents, and declared that the situation at the border is a “perfect storm for these people to be allowed to stay here.” Crane reported that ICE’s Fugitive Operations Teams who “are supposed to be out on the streets looking for bad guys” “are being shut down,” and agents from the Criminal Alien Program “that’s supposed to in the jails, looking for criminals” are being “sucked into this mess.”
Crane also said that agents are not going home after their shifts because they are afraid of exposing their families to the infectious diseases they’ve been exposed to dealing with these migrants.
Hannity asked Crane about the retaliation he’s faced, since becoming an outspoken whistleblower. They took away 25% of his pay, and he’s no longer allowed to fulfill his law enforcement duties as an Ice officer. But he still retains his position as the ICE Union President with a 25% pay cut.
Crane detailed the retaliation he faced for exposing the crisis at the border and the fact that “the administration won’t enforce our nation’s immigration laws.” He said that he had experienced “whistleblower retaliation,” which he said was “widespread.” Crane also declared “under this administration, whistleblowers are not treated real well,” and said that agents who speak out have their jobs threatened.
Pacheco also stated that health screenings consisted of Border Patrol agents “just reading the script” given to them, and recording responses given by illegal immigrants. He added that this was considered “good enough for the medical screening.” Crane said that some agents were “just not going home to their families” to avoid exposing them to diseases.
