Professor Jonathan Turley: “Congress Is Moving From Self-Loathing to Self Destruction” (Video)

The House Rules Committee held a hearing this morning on the authorization of litigation by the House of Representatives challenging the president’s unilateral actions.

Several of the expert witnesses who testified before the House Judiciary Committee hearing on “the president’s constitutional duty to faithfully execute the laws” back in December have returned to Capitol Hill for today’s hearing: Professor Jonathan Turley of George Washington University Law School, Elizabeth Price Foley, Professor of Law, Florida International University College of Law,  Simon Lazarus, Senior Counsel, Constitutional Accountability Center, and Walter Dellinger III, Partner, O’Melveny & Meyers LLP.

Professor Turley is a liberal who has genuine sympathy for many of Obama’s policies, but not how he’s executing them. Unlike me, he doesn’t question his motives, but he does worry about the development of what he calls an “Uber Presidency” under Obama.

Turley told the committee, “our system is changing and this body is the one branch that must act if we are to reverse those changes.

“A dominant presidency has occurred with very little very little congressional opposition, Turley continued. “Indeed, when Obama pledged to circumvent congress he received rapturous applause from the very body he was proposing to make practically irrelevant.” (Video of that here if your stomach can take it.)

“This body is moving from self loathing to self destruction in a system that is in crisis,” he added.

Ted Cruz: When Did The Democrat Party Declare War On The Catholic Church? (Video)

Senator Ted Cruz spoke out passionately against what he correctly termed the Democrats’ war against religious liberty – particularly their “war on the Catholic Church” on the Senate floor, this morning, urging them to drop their faith fines against religious organizations.

Forty-six Senate Democrats are cosponsoring legislation to reverse the Supreme Court’s Burwell v. Hobby Lobby decision and force businesses and religious non-profits, such as the Little Sisters of the Poor, to authorize abortion-inducing drugs for employees or pay millions in faith fines.

“The bill that is being voted on this floor, if it were adopted, would fine the Little Sisters of the Poor millions of dollars unless these Catholic nuns are willing to pay for abortion-producing drugs for others,” said Sen. Cruz.

He continued, “Mr. President, when did the Democratic Party declare war on the Catholic Church?

“Let me make a basic suggestion. If you’re litigating against nuns, you have probably done something wrong, and the Obama Administration is doing so right now. Mr. President, drop your faith fines. Mr. Majority leader, drop your faith fines. To all of my Democratic colleagues, drop your faith fines. Get back to the shared values that stitch all of us together as Americans.

“Mr. President, faith fines have no place in our democracy.

“What has become of the Dem party?!” Cruz asked plaintively.  “When did they become so extreme that they would actually propose fining nuns millions of dollars if they’re not willing to pay for abortion inducing drugs of others? That is not a mainstream position. That is a radical – that is an extreme position.”

“President John F. Kennedy, in an historic speech to the nation, said — quote — “I would not look with favor upon a president working to subvert the first amendment’s guarantees of religious liberty.” Mr. President, where are the Kennedys today? Does any Democrat have the courage to stand up and speak for the first amendment today? Does any Democrat have the courage to stand up and speak for the constitutional rights of practicing Catholics? Does any Democrat have the courage to stand up and speak for the Little Sisters of the Poor? Do any Democrats have the courage to listen to the Catholic Conference of Bishops and speak for religious liberty?  Mr. President, it saddens me that there are not 100 senators here unified, regardless of our faith, standing together protecting the religious liberty rights of everyone.”

TPNN: Tea Party Senator Mike Lee Defends Religious Liberty on Senate Floor:

“The most extraordinary feature of the bill before us today is the incongruity between the bill’s title and its content,” Sen. Lee began.
“The title—the “Protect Women’s Health from Corporate Interference Act”—is clear and straightforward. It suggests the bill is aimed at the important and worthy goal of protecting women’s health.
But the text of the legislation plainly demonstrates that the true objective of the bill is to circumscribe Americans’ religious liberties within the narrow confines of the Democratic Party’s partisan agenda and the whims of politicians and bureaucrats.”

Greg Gutfeld: We Gave Obama America – He Gave Us Detroit (Video)

A bitter rant from Greg Gutfeld on the Five, yesterday,  expresses what a lot of Americans are feeling right now as they watch the promise of a better tomorrow for their children crumble before their very eyes.

Via Freedom’s Lighthouse:

“He is doing something by doing nothing, because instability is his stability,” Gutfeld said. “His ‘Tear Down the Wall’ moment is happening right now. Unfortunately, that wall is our wall – it’s the Border.”

He concluded, “the belief is whenever you visit somewhere, you’re supposed to leave it better off than when you entered. Obama got that backwards. We gave him America and in return, he gave us Detroit.”

Former national deputy chief of the U.S. Border Patrol Ronald Colburn tellsNational Review Online that the Obama administration has undone all of the progress made at America’s southern border since 9/11.

“We’re back to a pre-9/11 situation basically, and this administration did that in the past five years,” he says. “All of the good that was done after 9/11 up to now has been reversed singlehandedly.”

The Right Scoop: ‘You’re damn right I’m angry!’ – MARK LEVIN’s rant about the downfall of America

You see because I want to make it very very clear to the left, to the media and even some ‘Repubicans’ and even some TV and radio hosts.

There’s nothing compassionate about the downfall of America! There’s nothing compassionate about the hollowing out of our society! There’s nothing compassionate about bankrupting our children and grandchildren, destroying our school system, destroying local law enforcement and hospitals, what’s been built up over 200 years.

Government officials restricting reporter access to illegal immigrants at detention centers. Border patrol agents being infected with diseases “not seen in decades.” The general in charge of the U.S. Southern Command warning that terrorists and gang members could be hiding among the new influx of immigrants. These are just some of the startling new border crisis stories the Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) have refused to tell their viewers about.

The Conversation: BCFS Withdraws Bid For $50 Million Illegal Alien Resort Spa:

Gateway Pundit reports that following his meeting with the group in Texas, last week,   Obama awarded BCFS $190,707,505 to build offices in six cities and four states.

The new offices will be located in New York, NY; Miami, FL; Houston, TX; Dallas, TX; Sacramento-area, CA; and Los Angeles-area, CA, will serve as regional hubs for BCFS’ new family support and evaluation programs. 35,670

Baptist Child & Family Services (BCFS) is expanding nationwide.

BCFS is the same group that runs a temporary detention center for illegal immigrants at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Todd Starnes refered to them as “brownshirts” in his blockbuster Fox News article about the secrecy surrounding the detention center.

“There were several of us who wanted to talk about the camps, but the agents made it clear we would be arrested,” a psychiatric counselor at Lackland told Starnes. “We were under orders not to say anything.”

The sources said workers were guarded by a security force from the BCFS, which the Department of Health and Human Services hired to run the Lackland Camp.

The sources say security forces called themselves the “Brown Shirts.”

“It was a very submissive atmosphere,” the counselor said. “Once you stepped onto the grounds, you abided by their laws – the Brown Shirt laws.”

She said the workers were stripped of their cellphones and other communication devices. Anyone caught with a phone was immediately fired.

“Everyone was paranoid,” she said. “The children had more rights than the workers.”

John Hayward, The Conversation: The myth of the Central American apocalypse:

While we’re busy retiring the phony Obama talking point about how a 2008 anti-human-trafficking law means he can’t do anything to repel the human wave coming out of Central America, let’s also dispense with the equally bogus talking point that it’s a sudden “refugee” crisis caused by an abrupt surge of violence in the countries of origin.

To be sure, conditions in Honduras, El Salvador, etc. are very bad.  You can’t blame anyone for wanting to escape them.  This does not, in any way, obligate the people of the United States to care for all of those people, or grant them permanent residency.  But it simply is not true that some massive surge in violence over the last year prompted a refugee exodus on par with the people fleeing from war zones.  It stinks about the same as it always has in Central America, and it most assuredly will not get any better if the corrupt regimes and drug gangs ruling those territories know they can count on the Americans to take care of everyone they have failed.  The concept of national sovereignty means nothing if the people of one nation can be held responsible for the consequences of actions taken by the government of another.

Inhofe: Reid Obstruction Endangering Troops And Allowing Terrorists To Gain Strength (Video)

Harry Reid’s obstinate refusal to permit a key defense bill from coming to a vote is endangering U.S. troops around the world and allowing terror groups to gain strength, says Sen. Jim Inhofe (R., Okla.), who is trying to shine a light on the increasingly delusional Majority Leader’s dangerous behavior before congress leaves town for the August recess.

Dingy’s behavior has been particularly “detached from reality” of late, causing Charles Krauthammer to wonder aloud if he’s off his meds.

Via The Washington Free Beacon:

The entire U.S. defense apparatus, as well as the U.S. military, depends on a key yearly spending bill known as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a piece of legislation that outlines and funds the nation’s national security priorities.

The 2015 NDAA already passed the House, but has stalled in the Senate, where Reid has near absolute control over which bills receive a vote.

Inhofe, in a new video first provided to the Washington Free Beacon, outlines the danger posed by Reid’s obstruction and urges Americans to call the majority leader’s office and demand that the bill be voted on before Congress leaves town in August. If the current NDAA does not come to a vote before the end of the fiscal year, there will be a funding gap for national security priorities.

Inhofe released a new video outlining the danger posed by Reid’s obstruction and urging Americans to call the majority leader’s office and demand that the bill be voted on before Congress leaves town in August.

Watcher’s Council Nominations – Hamas Delenda Est Edition

122643_600

Hamas delenda est indeed.

One of the most ludicrous quotes out there about this situation came from Secretary of State John Kerry, slamming the Hamas response to the Egyptian brokered ceasefire attempt:

“I cannot condemn strongly enough the actions of Hamas in so brazenly firing rockets in multiple numbers in the face of a goodwill effort to offer a ceasefire, in which Egypt and Israel worked together, that the international community strongly supports.”

Kerry said that Hamas is “purposely playing politics” by continuing the rocket fire, using innocents as “human shields… against the laws of war.”

“And that is why they are a terrorist organization,” Kerry added.

So, why are you and President Obama still funding them, Mr. Secretary? And why do you want so badly to give a terrorist organization a state?
