Krauthammer: Harry Reid’s ‘a Disgrace to His Own Institution’

An “unrestrained” Charles Krauthammer dropped the hammer on Harry Reid Friday night on Fox News’ Special Report in reaction to the news that the Minority Leader is not seeking re election in 2016.

“Harry we hardly knew ye, and what we did know, we didn’t like,” Krauthammer said as his co-panelists tittered in the background.

Krauthammer said that he wasn’t against Reid being a partisan, but explained, “I do think he was a disgrace to his own institution because he emasculated it in the name of protecting the president and trying to re-elect Democrats.”

Krauthammer noted that Reid didn’t succeed because “he essentially shut down the Senate as soon as Republicans took the House in 2010.”

He added that Reid, “failed as a partisan because 9 of his party lost re election, but he succeed in protecting the president from having to exercise the veto – and in order to do that – he killed his own institution.”

There is no gentle way to characterize Senator Reid’s career: He is and long has been one of the worst things about American government — a self-interested, dishonest, sanctimonious, unscrupulous charlatan who began his career with an act of cheap theater — choking Jack Gordon, who had offered him a bribe, for the benefit of the FBI’s cameras — and capped it by filibustering a bill intended to help people being held as slaves because it did not allow for shunting public money into the coffers of Planned Parenthood for subsidized abortions, a stunt he pulled after boasting of his pro-life voting record.

NBC’s Richard Engel: Arab Nations No Longer Trust The Obama Administration

Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries are conducting military actions against Iranian interests without telling the United States because they no longer trust us with keeping the intelligence secret from Iran.

How does it feel to be part of the axis of evil, America? Because under Obama, we are no longer considered one of the good guys on the world stage. Our allies in the war on terror no longer trust us. And why should they when the president’s new BFF is the belligerent and apocalyptic Islamic Republic of Iran?

The Washington Free Beacon reported:

NBC’s Richard Engel reported Friday that U.S. officials were stunned they were not given any notice before Saudi Arabia launched attacks against Houthi rebels. According to Engel, military leaders were finding out about the developments on the Yemen border in real time.

Engel said officials from both the military and members of Congress believe they were not given advanced warning because the Arab nations do not trust the Obama administration after they befriended Iran.

“Saudi Arabia and other countries simply don’t trust the United States any more, don’t trust this administration, think the administration is working to befriend Iran to try to make a deal in Switzerland, and therefore didn’t feel the intelligence frankly would be secure. And I think that’s a situation that is quite troubling for U.S. foreign policy,” Engel said.

Obama Lauds Dingy harry’s “Curmudgeonly Charm” In Vegas Radio Interview “Lovefest”

Harry Reid

There’s very little to celebrate in American politics, these days, but the announcement from the most reviled Senate Leader in our nation’s history that he won’t be seeking reelection, is delighting Republicans from coast to coast. Some are openly wondering if the same person who beat him up earlier this year, maybe talked him into the decision.

While the rest of the nation celebrated, Barack Obama called in to a Las Vegas radio talk show while Reid was being interviewed Friday, resulting in what has been described as “an Obama-Reid lovefest.”

Prepare to be appalled, sickened, mortified, and strangely amused all at the same time:

“You’ve got that curmudgeonly charm that is hard to replace,” Obama told Reid on KNPR.

“Curmudgeonly charm” is one way of putting it. Or as others might say – poisonously demagogic, demented, dishonest, scummy and totally charmless.

“There are a lot of folks that are slicker, give smoother TV interviews,” Obama added, but Reid stands out “in terms of somebody that’s got heart.”

That Reid is not the slickest and smoothest communicator is putting it mildly. Dingy, in fact, stands out as someone with a long, sordid history of verbal diarrhea – who is routinely nasty and mortifying.

Obama referred to Reid’s working-class roots in the small town of Searchlight, Nev. “He knows there are Searchlights all across the country. There are kids just like he was, and he was fighting for them.”

I bet he was fighting for the kids when he got his face bashed in.

The president noted that while Nevada’s housing market and hospitality industry are still struggling to recover from the recession, “it would be so much worse off and in such a bigger funk … if it hadn’t been for the really tough but correct actions that Harry took.”

Of course, of course.  And when things start to improve as soon as he’s no longer involved in Nevada politics, (where he reportedly runs the state like a mob boss) it will just be a giant coincidence.

The love-fest turned dark and foreboding when Obama vowed that the two of them would “squeeze as much out of these next couple years as we can.”

Ugh. We know.

The president blew off a potential awkward moment when the KNPR host reminded the two of the time Dingy said Obama had been treated differently because of his skin color. Obama said, “One of the great things about Harry is he’s always looking forward; he’s not looking backwards.”

I too am looking forward — to a US Senate without Harry Reid.

This week’s winning essay,Bookworm Room’sWhen it comes to campus fascism, revolutions always eat their own is a tour de force on how radicalism is taking 0ver America’s college campuses. Here’s a slice:
One of the truisms I grew up hearing is that “revolutions always eat their own.” I have understood this to mean that, in any revolutionary movement, the second generation, having been marinated longer in the revolutionary brine, is more extreme than the first generation and invariably purges that first generation. Both the French and the Russian revolutions prove this point.

We in America have had a revolution too. It’s been a very slow-moving revolution of the kind that the British used to call a Fabian Revolution. It involves advancing revolutionary goals, not through violence, but through slow, reformist means. As Ferguson shows, the violence then comes after the revolution. Indeed, Ferguson is one of the best manifestations of that revolution.

The other obvious manifestation is the American college campus. On campuses throughout America, a Nanny state fascism is the norm. That didn’t happen overnight. It happened through Fabian gradualism, with hard-Left revolutionary principles being slowly introduced in the classrooms (increasingly open, aggressive Marxist teaching), in the administrative buildings (read Heather MacDonald’s Multiculti U for the best discussion about the hard Left Fabianism in college administration), and in the dorms (which had a slow Progression away from same-sex dorms, same-sex floors, same-sex bathrooms, and same-sex rooms, which a completely unsurprisingly commensurate uptick in rape claims).

One of the biggest slow-mo revolutions in academia was the whole concept of trigger warnings. When the idea got started, nobody said that trigger warnings were going to be censorship. Instead, they were sold as good manners and sensitivity. It’s kind and polite to warn people who might have delicate sensibilities that you’re going to talk about something shocking, such as mass murder, or blood, or something else most people agree is disgusting or revolting. It turned out, though, that at the average college campus an amazing number of kids have heightened sensibilities. More interestingly, it also happened that, thanks to the Leftism in which America’s young have been pickled since preschool, the things that they just can’t bear to hear without horrific mental suffering are facts and ideas that run counter to their Leftist ideology.

Over the last few months, however, something interesting has happened: The Fabian revolution’s Founders are getting disgusted with their progeny’s extremism. It began when Jonathan Chait questioned the stifling effects of the new orthodoxy. In his article challenging the orthodoxy, he still oozed contempt for conservatives having a say in things, but he was definitely perturbed by modern young people’s inability to tolerate any opposing opinions, ideas, or facts. I wonder if Chait was surprised by the subsequent Leftist demand that he be silenced.

The next salvo from old revolutionaries against new happened when Laura Kipnes wrote about the sexual paranoia that is the norm in academia. Kipnes too was excoriated. Michelle Goldberg, writing at the hard-Left Nation, describes the attack on Kipnes and, as part of the same article, also suggests that the revolution has gone too far.

One week later, Judith Shulevitz got an opinion piece published in the New York Times entitled “In College and Hiding From Scary Ideas.” She too is shocked to see that sensitivity has morphed into censorship. (Jonah Goldberg, author of the informative and prescient Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Change, would not have been shocked at all. He explained in his book how the next revolution was being ushered in, not with guns, but with stifling nanny statism.)

I certainly appreciate the effort these old revolutionaries are making to stem the flood waters they first let loose. I doubt they’ll be successful, though. I see them as this revolution’s Robespierres. He, of course, ended up on the same guillotine to which he had so mercilessly consigned others.

Ralph Peters: Where’s The Left’s Sympathy For Soldiers Who Died Or Suffered Grievous Wounds Looking For Bergdahl?

Lt. Col. Ralph Peters and Col. David Hunt appeared on Fox News, Thursday night to discuss the Bowe Bergdahl desertion charge,  with Eric Bolling filling in for Sean Hannity. Peters passionately decried the left’s argument that Bergdahl suffered enough at the hands of the Taliban while he was in captivity.

“His desertion led to far more American deaths and wounding than you’ve  heard so far,” Peters began.

He went on to say that he and his military buddies are furious about “this instant campaign on the part of talking heads, the media and …the American left to protect the White House and declare that poor little Bowe has suffered enough.”

“Listen,” Peters seethed.  “Bowe Bergdahl came home –  he’s in good health – he’s got four limbs, he’s got ten toes, he’s got ten fingers. He’s functional on a day to day basis. Where is the left’s sympathy, where is the media’s sympathy for the soldiers who didn’t come home – for their families? Where is their sympathy the soldiers, Marines, and Navy corpsman who suffered burns all over their bodies, and lifetime disfigurement, where is their sympathy for all those who suffered grievous wounds and permanent disabilities – some of them searching for Bowe Bergdahl. Where is the sympathy for those guys? I don’t feel the love!”

Later on, Peters dismissed the argument that Bergdahl had suffered enough because “he was chained by the Taliban.”

“Let me tell you how not to get tortured by the Taliban,” Peters explained. “Don’t desert to the Taliban! Works every time!”
