The President, the Pope, and the U.N.

In 2006 John O’Sullivan wrote a book, The President, the Pope, and the Prime Minister that detailed how the timely convergence of President Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the early eighties led the West to a peaceful resolution of the Cold War.

All three individuals were self-confident charismatic leaders who achieved greatness through dedication and hard work. Each believed that he had been created for a purpose. For Reagan it was to hasten and bring about the collapse of Communism. For John Paul II (at least in the political realm) it was his diplomatic offensive for religious liberty behind the Iron Curtain, especially in Poland. Thatcher was determined to transform “the sick old man of Europe” (a familiar epithet for Britain) into a dynamic land of enterprise and prosperity.

Working together, these three leaders defeated the Soviet Empire, and revived the economies and spirits of the West.

Now we have another convergence of world leaders, but they are the worst possible leaders at the worst possible time: a Marxist Alinskyite President, and a sanctimonious pope.

Via Watts Up With That:

The Middle East is imploding. Islamic State butchers are annihilating Christian and other communities. Putin is sending arms to Assad. Under the Obama-Iran nuclear deal, the mullahs will get $100+ billion to expand their proxy terror war on Israel and the West. Saudi Arabia has 100,000 empty air-conditioned tents but won’t take any of the millions who’ve been driven from their homes. Neither will most of the other 22 Arab League nations or 57 Organization of Islamic Cooperation member countries.

Instead, millions of mostly Muslim migrants, militants and refugees are heading to Europe – with limited money, education, job skills, or desire to assimilate. They demand entry into EU countries whose energy, economic, employment and welfare systems are already foundering or nearing collapse.

There is no shortage of dire issues for Barack Obama and Pope Francis to be focusing on. But as economies crumble, and the Middle East collapses, these two focus like a laser beam on what?

…climate change! It’s insanity on steroids. The alarmist assertions are absurd.

“Climate change is already disrupting our agriculture and ecosystems, our water and food supplies,” Obama recently inveighed. “If we do nothing, Alaskan temperatures are projected to rise between six and twelve degrees by the end of the century.”

Projected by whom? Who concocts these fables? Nature-driven climate change has disrupted lives throughout human history. Seas have risen 400 feet since the last mile-thick glaciers melted off the northern half of Asia, Europe and North America. How did “imperiled” Pacific islands survive that?

Some Alaskan glaciers have been retreating for decades, but Hubbard is growing andGlacier Bay’s ice retreat began around 1750. Arctic sea ice has increased some 26% (400,000 square miles) since 2012, in a cycle that’s continued for millennia. The sea ice “was thick in the 1920s, thin in the 1930s and 1940s, thick again in the 1960s and 1970s, and thinner in recent decades,” oceanographer Igor Polyakov noted in 2004.

“Not only in the summer, but in the winter the [Bering Sea region] was free of ice, sometimes with a wide strip of water up to at least 200 miles away from the shore,” Swedish explorer Oscar Nordkvist reported in 1822. “We were astonished by the total absence of ice in the Barrow Strait,” Francis McClintock, captain of the Fox, wrote in 1860.“I was here at this time in 1854 – still frozen up – and doubts were entertained as to the possibility of escape.” How did cars and power plants cause all that?

Meanwhile Greenland’s ice mass has grown by some 200 cubic kilometers (48 cubic miles) just since 2014. Vikings built homes, grew crops and raised cattle in Greenland between 950 and 1300, before they were frozen out by the Little Ice Age and encroaching pack ice and glaciers. Antarctic sea ice set another record in May, the US National Snow and Ice Data Center reports, climbing 12% above the long-term 1981-2010 average, to reach 12.1 million square kilometers (800,000 square miles) – almost as much as Alaska and Texas combined!

If it’s global warming and climate change, shouldn’t melting phenomena be constant andglobal?

Pope Francis nevertheless plans to meet with President Obama September 23, to discuss “dangerous manmade climate change” and how to ensure “preferential treatment of the poor,” by building “clean” energy economies and stopping “carbon pollution.” Their concerns and solutions are illusory.

They disdain fossil fuels and capitalism – though they have brought greater health and well-being to more people than any other systems in history. They prefer the socialism, centralized government control, higher energy prices, fundamental economic transformations and wealth redistribution schemes advanced by the UN and Climate Crisis, Inc. By denying the world’s poorest people energy, jobs and economic growth, this agenda will sentence them to perpetual poverty, disease and early death. By mandating the use of biofuels, wind turbines and solar panels, it will turn food into fuel, increase malnutrition, convert wildlife habitats into enormous inefficient energy facilities, and kill countless millions of birds and bats.

The pope and president dismiss these impacts. They insist that climate change is a far worse problem, and that modern energy, housing and living standards for the world’s poor would not be “sustainable.” They believe “morality,” “climate justice” and “preferential treatment” mean protecting people from hypothesized, exaggerated and fabricated climate disasters 25, 50 or 100 years from now – by destroying millions of jobs and keeping the world’s poor energy-deprived and impoverished now and in perpetuity.

The “Freedom Team” of  Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and Margaret Thatcher brought down the Evil Empire. That was a major accomplishment, and a great blessing for the entire world.

To deal with today’s threats, we have the sad Farce Team of Obama, Pope Francis and (in the absence of a strong, principled British Leader) the UN, which drives so much of the climate change agenda..

Even if they got lucky beyond their wildest dreams and managed to completely eliminate U.S. carbon emissions, it would not be scientifically detectable in global temperatures even by 2100.

Doesn’t exactly compare to tearing down the Berlin Wall, does it?

All it would do is make us poorer and less free – which makes them the polar opposite of the Freedom Team.

Scott Walker Announces He’s Dropping Out (Video)

Numerous news outlets are reporting that Governor Scott Walker is dropping out of the 2016 presidential race.

Via the NYTs:

Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin has concluded he no longer has a path to the Republican presidential nomination and plans to drop out of the 2016 campaign, according to three Republicans familiar with his decision who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Mr. Walker called a news conference in Madison at 6 p.m. Eastern.

“The short answer is money,” said a supporter of Mr. Walker’s who was briefed on the decision. “He’s made a decision not to limp into Iowa.”

The announcement comes as a new CNN national poll placed the Wisconsin governor’s support at less than half a percentage point.

UPDATE: Here’s the announcement:

He is encouraging other GOP candidates to drop out to narrow the field against the current frontrunner.

It’s sad to see quality candidates like Scott Walker and Rick Perry fall by the wayside, but they both seemed unable to adapt to the changing political climate.

What is wanted on the Republican side is a candidate who is willing to stand up to the Democrat media complex, reject liberal premises, and refuse to apologize.

Right now, Donald Trump seems to be the one best filling that bill.

Benghazi Movie “13 Hours” To Be Released In January

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on January 15, 2016.

Via Newsbusters:

Judging from the movie trailer, this film directed by Michael Bay is exactly what Hillary doesn’t want the public to be reminded about. For one thing, it is pretty clear that the assault on the diplomatic compound on September 11, 2012 was not inspired by a mere video according to the trailer.  Also included in the trailer is a scene where the security team is told to stand down after the attack. Coming as it does at a crucial point in the election season, it is sure to inspire quite a bit of buzz. In fact it is already generating a lot of controversy judging from the many comments posted in the IMDB message board even though it is still almost four months away from being released.

If you haven’t seen the preview yet, it looks pretty good (though I think Hillary would beg to differ):

That Michael Bay really has a knack for making spontaneous demonstrations over a Youtube video look pretty intense, doesn’t he?

Forum: Can America Recover from Barack Obama?

Every week on Monday morning , the Council and our invited guests weigh in at the Watcher’s Forum, short takes on a major issue of the day, the culture, or daily living. This week’s question: Can America Recover from Barack Obama?

Don Surber : Yes. I have full faith in America, the Greatest Land Of All. We survived Ca’ta’

Greg,  Rhymes With Right: I’m not sure. Ask me after the election in November of 2016. If we have President Clinton, President Sanders, or President Trump taking office in 2017, then America is truly in decline. A strong leader on the right (or at least the center-right) might allow us the chance to recover from the damage done by Obama, just as Reagan undid the damage left in the wake of Jimmy Carter and his immediate predecessors.

Maggie’s Notebook:Yes, if we elect a president brave enough to undo the lawlessness. To do this, every Cabinet member must be willing to clean house, and take care of the business of undoing the lawlessness. A president can’t do it by himself/herself. Until we see the results of the 2016 elections, we cannot say we trust the voters to demand the Republic we inherited.

JoshuaPundit :  Most people whom know me consider me an optimist. But on this question, I’d have to say that it’s up in the air. Two quotes come to mind. Rush Limbaugh famously said in March of 2012 that “I think that the country could survive four more years of Obama, but I don’t believe the country can survive in a country full of people who would re-elect him.”

That’s a key point. Barack Hussein Obama is merely the embodiment, the steroid if you will of our current predicament.

At this point, not only the attitudes but the very electorate is being changed to accept the corruption of our every institution – the military,  our schools, our judiciary, our morals and of course, our Constitution.

Our children today aren’t taught about the awesome greatness of our nation, its heroes and heroines and the amazing men and women whom built it, but that America is a racist, hateful,  ‘downright mean country’  that must pay sin offerings in perpetuity. And the country is being swamped by those whom consider themselves entitled to those offerings, just because.

The American people, whom once demanded at least a show of honesty and propriety from officeholders now simply shrug at the widespread dishonesty and lawlessness. Having been lied to again and again by those promising reform, seeing the well connected caught in wrongdoing get off free again and again, many of them have adopted an almost Soviet mindset and now simply try to keep the bureaucratzia at arms length and  scrounge what they can from the system.

America has changed. I can feel it.

Will we recover? Here’s that second quote, from that student of American character, Sir Winston Churchill: “You can always depend on the American people to do the right thing – eventually.”

Will we? And will the ‘right thing’ be a return to the principles of our Republic? We’ll see. But I feel it in my bones that a reckoning is in store for America along the way.

The Right Planet: I suppose anything is possible. My concern is we have a couple of “lost generations” that seem to have forgotten, or choose not to learn, from the very bitter lessons of the past. I really hate making predictions. But I don’t think this is going to end well. I just know too many people who are completely disengaged. And some of them are fine people. They’re just disengaged. Comfort and ease trumps all. I’m afraid this just can’t end well. I think it’s going to get worse, much worse, before it gets better. Just my $.02. And on that cheery note, I’ll yield the rest of my time.

The Glittering Eye : Of course. In the total scheme of things Barack Obama is small potatoes. America can survive him easily.

I’m not so sure we can survive the abandoning of traditional American values and beliefs. If we abandon teaching the Declaration of Independence, Ben Franklin, Parson Weems, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Lincoln’s Second Inaugural, and Walt Whitman because they’re old dead white guys we may also lose the values of honesty, honor, decency, hard work, self-sufficiency, and self-determination that they advocated.

Laura Rambeau Lee,Right Reason : While President Obama has absolutely fast tracked the decline of America as we knew it, it would be foolish to blame everything that has happened on him alone, or that is has happened only since he became president. We must recall the events behind the rise of the Tea Party. Perhaps the average American was not aware at the time, but many people in the business knew of the imminent housing collapse due to continued lowering of underwriting guidelines which permitted people to qualify to purchase houses knowing full well they could not afford them. The wake-up call and what spurred the American people to rise up was TARP, the Troubled Assets Relief Program, which was passed in October 2008 under President George W. Bush. Although he and other Republicans said they warned of the problems with such lending practices they did not take any actions which might have stopped it.

That seven hundred billion dollar bank and auto industry bailout was what spurred everyday Americans to form grassroots groups to protest the confiscatory theft of our tax money and borrow on our future earnings to bail out banks, which in a true capitalist society should have gone bankrupt.

We have researched, studied, educated ourselves and shared information through the internet and social media with people all over the nation and across the globe. We have gone back to our founding fathers and sought to understand the ideas upon which our country was formed and determined to take America back from the progressives, socialists and Marxists in our government and in our country.

Many were awakened before he assumed office, and many more have realized we are losing our republic since he took office. We must realize when he is gone there will still be people and powers behind the scenes continuing the destruction, and not just those with a D after their name. America is exceptional and freedom is in our blood. America can and will recover from Barack Obama.
