The President, the Pope, and the U.N.

In 2006 John O’Sullivan wrote a book, The President, the Pope, and the Prime Minister that detailed how the timely convergence of President Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the early eighties led the West to a peaceful resolution of the Cold War.

All three individuals were self-confident charismatic leaders who achieved greatness through dedication and hard work. Each believed that he had been created for a purpose. For Reagan it was to hasten and bring about the collapse of Communism. For John Paul II (at least in the political realm) it was his diplomatic offensive for religious liberty behind the Iron Curtain, especially in Poland. Thatcher was determined to transform “the sick old man of Europe” (a familiar epithet for Britain) into a dynamic land of enterprise and prosperity.

Working together, these three leaders defeated the Soviet Empire, and revived the economies and spirits of the West.

Now we have another convergence of world leaders, but they are the worst possible leaders at the worst possible time: a Marxist Alinskyite President, and a sanctimonious pope.

Under the Obama-Iran nuclear deal, the mullahs will get $100+ billion to expand their proxy terror war on Israel and the West. Neither will most of the other 22 Arab League nations or 57 Organization of Islamic Cooperation member countries.

Instead, millions of mostly Muslim migrants, militants and refugees are heading to Europe – with limited money, education, job skills, or desire to assimilate. They demand entry into EU countries whose energy, economic, employment and welfare systems are already foundering or nearing collapse.

There is no shortage of dire issues for Barack Obama and Pope Francis to be focusing on. But as economies crumble, and the Middle East collapses, these two focus like a laser beam on what?

…climate change! It’s insanity on steroids. The alarmist assertions are absurd.

“Climate change is already disrupting our agriculture and ecosystems, our water and food supplies,” Obama recently inveighed. “If we do nothing, Alaskan temperatures are projected to rise between six and twelve degrees by the end of the century.”

Projected by whom? Who concocts these fables? Nature-driven climate change has disrupted lives throughout human history. Seas have risen 400 feet since the last mile-thick glaciers melted off the northern half of Asia, Europe and North America. How did “imperiled” Pacific islands survive that?

Some Alaskan glaciers have been retreating for decades, but Hubbard is growing andGlacier Bay’s ice retreat began around 1750. Arctic sea ice has increased some 26% (400,000 square miles) since 2012, in a cycle that’s continued for millennia. The sea ice “was thick in the 1920s, thin in the 1930s and 1940s, thick again in the 1960s and 1970s, and thinner in recent decades,” oceanographer Igor Polyakov noted in 2004.

“Not only in the summer, but in the winter the [Bering Sea region] was free of ice, sometimes with a wide strip of water up to at least 200 miles away from the shore,” Swedish explorer Oscar Nordkvist reported in 1822. “We were astonished by the total absence of ice in the Barrow Strait,” Francis McClintock, captain of the Fox, wrote in 1860.“I was here at this time in 1854 – still frozen up – and doubts were entertained as to the possibility of escape.” How did cars and power plants cause all that?

Meanwhile Greenland’s ice mass has grown by some 200 cubic kilometers (48 cubic miles) just since 2014. Vikings built homes, grew crops and raised cattle in Greenland between 950 and 1300, before they were frozen out by the Little Ice Age and encroaching pack ice and glaciers. Antarctic sea ice set another record in May, the US National Snow and Ice Data Center reports, climbing 12% above the long-term 1981-2010 average, to reach 12.1 million square kilometers (800,000 square miles) – almost as much as Alaska and Texas combined!

If it’s global warming and climate change, shouldn’t melting phenomena be constant andglobal?

Pope Francis nevertheless plans to meet with President Obama September 23, to discuss “dangerous manmade climate change” and how to ensure “preferential treatment of the poor,” by building “clean” energy economies and stopping “carbon pollution.” Their concerns and solutions are illusory.

They disdain fossil fuels and capitalism – though they have brought greater health and well-being to more people than any other systems in history. They prefer the socialism, centralized government control, higher energy prices, fundamental economic transformations and wealth redistribution schemes advanced by the UN and Climate Crisis, Inc. By denying the world’s poorest people energy, jobs and economic growth, this agenda will sentence them to perpetual poverty, disease and early death. By mandating the use of biofuels, wind turbines and solar panels, it will turn food into fuel, increase malnutrition, convert wildlife habitats into enormous inefficient energy facilities, and kill countless millions of birds and bats.

The pope and president dismiss these impacts. They insist that climate change is a far worse problem, and that modern energy, housing and living standards for the world’s poor would not be “sustainable.” They believe “morality,” “climate justice” and “preferential treatment” mean protecting people from hypothesized, exaggerated and fabricated climate disasters 25, 50 or 100 years from now – by destroying millions of jobs and keeping the world’s poor energy-deprived and impoverished now and in perpetuity.

The “Freedom Team” of  Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and Margaret Thatcher brought down the Evil Empire. That was a major accomplishment, and a great blessing for the entire world.

To deal with today’s threats, we have the sad Farce Team of Obama, Pope Francis and (in the absence of a strong, principled British Leader) the UN, which drives so much of the climate change agenda..

Even if they got lucky beyond their wildest dreams and managed to completely eliminate U.S. carbon emissions, it would not be scientifically detectable in global temperatures even by 2100.

Doesn’t exactly compare to tearing down the Berlin Wall, does it?

All it would do is make us poorer and less free – which makes them the polar opposite of the Freedom Team.

Video: Obama EPA Chief Can’t Say Whether Climate Models Were False Or Not

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) had a little fun with EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, Wednesday, as she testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on the fiscal year 2016 EPA budget.

Specifically, he presented her with data that contradicts the propaganda that climate alarmists like her deploy to justify spending hundreds of billions of dollars. Stunningly, as Sessions presented her with the facts, McCarthy refused to admit that climate models have been wrong, predictions have been way off, and extreme weather “pattern” claims have been grossly exaggerated.

Sessions: “When we go to our states, the group we have the most complaints about from our constituents—whether it’s highway people, whether it’s farmers, whether it’s energy people—is the Environmental Protection Agency. It’s an [agency of] extraordinary overreach. And you apparently are unaware of the pushback that’s occurring in the real world… So now you say that we’ve got a crisis and there are dangers out there. Let me ask you this. There was an article from Mr. [Bjorn] Lomborg… from the Copenhagen Institute. He says, along with Dr. Pielke from Colorado, that we’ve had fewer droughts in recent years. Do you dispute that?”

McCarthy: “I don’t know in what context he’s making statements like that…”

Sessions: “What about hurricanes. Have we had more or less hurricanes in the last decade?” …

McCarthy: “In terms of landing those hurricanes on land, I cannot answer that question. It’s a very complicated issue.”

Sessions: “It’s not complicated on how many have landed. We’ve had a dramatic reduction in the number. We’ve gone a decade without a hurricane [Category] 3 or above…

Unable to speak to the hurricane issue, she did offer that she has “plenty of evidence – factual evidence from scientists who know this issue – that climate change is happening – it’s real – it’s happening now, and we need to take action to address it.”

“Well of course the climate is changing, Miss McCarthy!” Sessions interjected.

 Sessions: Would you acknowledge that over the last 18 years, that the increase in temperature has been very little, and that it is well below, matter of fact 90 percent below most of the environmental models that showed how fast temperature would increase?” …

McCarthy: “I do not know what the models actually are predicting that you are referring to…”

Sessions: “This is a stunning development, that the head of the Environmental Protection Agency—who should know more than anybody else in the world, who is imposing hundreds of billions of dollars in cost to prevent this climate temperature increase—doesn’t know whether their projections have been right or wrong.”

Recently the Boston Globe, The New York Times, the Washington Post, the Guardian,Scientific American and even Nature, as well as many other media outlets and environmentalist weblogs, have mounted what appears to be a costly, malevolent and carefully coordinated campaign of assaults on the reputation of Dr Willie Soon, falsely alleging that in several of his published scientific papers he had failed to disclose that some of the funding for his research has come from fossil-fuel interests.

This campaign of libels was calculated to damage Dr Soon’s reputation, to undermine the credibility of his research results, and to threaten his employment at the Center for Astrophysics by improperly suggesting that he has acted unethically and dishonestly. I propose to knock the worst of these libels on the head. This will be a long read, but well worth it.

Don’t Trust Do Verify: Questioning Corrupt and Politicized Climate Science

I  generally avoid political discussions on Facebook – instead I prefer to use this blog and Twitter to talk politics.

I broke my own rule over the weekend when I got into a debate with some well-meaning but totally misled friends of friends on Facebook over the Keystone XL Pipeline, which they were totally sure would destroy the environment and contribute to global warming if it’s allowed.  For these young twenty-somethings, opposing the Keystone Pipeline is about “common sense.”

It’s shocking and dismaying how many millennials have been fooled by the Soviet-style propaganda of the warmist left. How do they not see that the science has become corrupted and politicized? Real science is not proven by “consensus.” Real science doesn’t lie and manipulate data. Real science welcomes debate. It doesn’t try to silence the (growing numbers of) detractors. And with real science – predictions occasionally come true.

How is this not obvious?

Do kids today not have working BS meters? What ever happened to questioning authority? Do they not realize that all of the “rebels” on this issue are on the skeptical side? The kids today are on the side of  fossilized left-wing Malthusian geezers who have been flogging this pathetic, false narrative for decades.

The people behind this movement are the opposite of cool.

I’d recommend that they “trust but verify”, but after ClimateGate I and II and III,  the major players responsible for the climate hoax have proven themselves unworthy of their trust. This should be a no-brainer. Verify yes… Trust? Oh hell no.

If not for the warmists in the Obama administration – who keep pushing this agenda with near religious fervor – the global warming/climate change hoax would have gone the way of the global cooling hoax of the 70s, by now.

The same politicized “scientists” from ClimateGate I and II and III continue to manipulate climate data hoping no one will notice, but not caring too much if a few do, because they know that the MSM will have their backs.

The powers behind this hoax have dug in deep, and because the left-wing media is ideologically predisposed to embrace a left-wing narrative, it’s di  fficult for the truth to break through – even though most climate scientists now dispute the notion of catastrophic man-made global warming – because the actual facts don’t bear it out.

Anthropogenic “climate change” is, and always was, a radical campaign to reduce the world’s population. A misanthropic agenda engineered by the environmental movement in the mid 1970’s, who realised that doing something about “global warming” would play to quite a number of its social agendas.

The goal was advanced, most notably, by The Club Of Rome (Consultants to the UN) – a group of mainly European scientists and academics, who used computer modelling to warn that the world would run out of finite resources if population growth were left unchecked.

Apparently, he doesn’t know their ultimate objective of reducing and controlling population generally contradicts Catholic doctrine. The irony is that as a Jesuit, the ideological church police, he should know, but apparently, his personal, political and economic perspective trumps it.

As East Coast Braces For Massive Snowstorm, EPA Chief Warns of Decreased Snowfall To Crowd of 30

East coast cities like New York may be facing one of the biggest blizzards in history, but EPA Chief Gina McCarthy warned at an outdoor rally in Colorado, last week, that climate change is a threat to winter sports, tourism, and recreation in the state’s ski areas because of decreased snowfall.

Over 24 inches of snow expected to blanket NYC on Monday and Tuesday, according to meteorologists. 

“We are facing one of the largest storms in the city’s history,” Mayor de Blasio said. “This could be a storm…the likes of which we have never seen before.”

Meanwhile in snow-packed Colorado, a bundled up Gina McCarthy,  along with Mike Kaplan, CEO for SkiCo, and athletes Alex Deibold and Gretchen Bleiler, spoke to a crowd of 30 about global warming and the threat it poses to winter sports and tourism. McCarthy (through chattering teeth) urged fellow travelers in the ski industry to propagandize about climate change to the “younger generations.” She also repeated the now discredited claim that 2014 was the hottest year on record (or since 1880 + the claim has only a 38% chance of being true. In other words – it’s probably not true.)

McCarthy pointed out that winter sports athletes like Deibold and Bleiler can help inform the younger generations on the dangers of climate change, which can be devastating for mountain town economies.

“It’s a big, base-bottom deal for our economy,” she said. “So let’s get off our butts, let’s work together, let’s start taking action. These guys are going to reach the young people, I’m going to keep yapping at the older ones, and someone’s going to get the middle, and we are going to make things happen.”

McCarthy said a key is to put it in economic terms, and not just environmental, so it’s understood by everybody, noting that snow-based recreation contributes $67 billion a year, and supports more than 900,000 jobs.

“We need to take action, not tomorrow, but today,” she said. “Climate change does threaten skiing, it does threaten snowboarding, it does threaten winter recreation as we know it.”

She added that 2014 was the hottest year on record, and each of the previous three decades have been warmer than the one before.

SkiCo CEO Mike Kaplan fretted that “rising global temperatures will dramatically change the way Colorado’s mountains look in winter, and possibly put SkiCo out of business.”  He made an ominous prediction based on I know not what – possibly climate models (which routinely turn out to be wrong.)

“The biggest threat to our business is the very same that’s facing our generation,” Kaplan said. “We want to be in business forever. … However, by 2100, we’re going to have pinyon trees growing on top of Highland Bowl. Pinyon trees at 12,392 feet. We all know what’s up there now, right, it’s alpine tundra, it’s wildflowers. There’s not a tree for at least 1,000 vertical feet. … My grandkids will not be bringing their children up to Highland Bowl.”

According to the Natural Resources Conservation Service , Colorado’s snowpack is “right on target”  so far for this season overall — which tells me that the global warming scamsters haven’t corrupted the Natural Resources Conservation Service yet.

Something very odd has been going on with the temperature data relied on by the world’s scientists, writes Christopher Booker

Although it has been emerging for seven years or more, one of the most extraordinary scandals of our time has never hit the headlines. Yet another little example of it lately caught my eye when, in the wake of those excited claims that 2014 was “the hottest year on record”, I saw the headline on a climate blog: “Massive tampering with temperatures in South America”. The evidence on Notalotofpeopleknowthat, uncovered by Paul Homewood, was indeed striking.

Puzzled by those “2014 hottest ever” claims, which were led by the most quoted of all the five official global temperature records – Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (Giss) – Homewood examined a place in the world where Giss was showing temperatures to have risen faster than almost anywhere else: a large chunk of South America stretching from Brazil to Paraguay.

Noting that weather stations there were thin on the ground, he decided to focus on three rural stations covering a huge area of Paraguay. Giss showed it as having recorded, between 1950 and 2014, a particularly steep temperature rise of more than 1.5C: twice the accepted global increase for the whole of the 20th century.

But when Homewood was then able to check Giss’s figures against the original data from which they were derived, he found that they had been altered. Far from the new graph showing any rise, it showed temperatures in fact having declined over those 65 years by a full degree. When he did the same for the other two stations, he found the same. In each case, the original data showed not a rise but a decline.

Now you’ve got the background, let me return to my question.

If the statement “2014 was the hottest year on record” is untrue – and demonstrably untrue – then why are so many people who ought to know better continuing to claim otherwise?

The answer, as often where outbreaks of mass hysteria are concerned, can be found in Gustave Le Bon’s 1895 masterpiece translated in English under the title The Crowd: A Study Of The Popular Mind.

This brilliant study of how to influence the mob by engendering groupthink was admired by, among others, Freud, Hitler and Mussolini.

Here is Le Bon on the most important weapon in the demagogue’s armoury:

When we have read a hundred, a thousand, times that X’s chocolate is the best, we imagine we have heard it said in many quarters, and we end by acquiring the certitude that such is the fact.

It should not be a surprise that the usual suspects are repeating the lie, understanding the power it has on their sheepish audience.

An Environmental Protection Agency memo sent to top officials implored the agency to build up support for its agenda by tying its regulatory agenda to the “personal worries” of Americans.

 

 

Krauthammer: Killing Coal is a ‘Losing Proposition For The Country and For Democrats’ (Video)

Climate change may be very low on the list of issues that are important to most Americans, but to Sec. of State John Kerry (who served in Vietnam),  it is “among the world’s biggest problems”,  “as big a threat as terrorism, poverty, WMDs”, and  ‘Perhaps The World’s Most Fearsome Weapon Of Mass Destruction.’ 

Lurch was in Indonesia Monday, warning the impoverished Indonesian citizens that climate change could threaten their “entire way of life” as he pushed for the world to do more to stop global warming.

On Monday night’s Special Report, the panel talked about the Regime’s latest Global Warming fear-mongering and the political implications of Obama’s  economy crushing green policies.

Krauthammer disputed the idea that Climate Change is “settled science” and correctly called the ideology behind it, a matter of theology to the left. The panel agreed that the Regime’s big climate change push was a risky proposition for Democrats.

Dr. K. concluded, “killing coal is not going to help Democrats in Kentucky. So this is a losing proposition for the country, and Democrats.”

For those who lack a rooting interest in the United States, American foreign policy has become a joke. We are fools who appear to lack the most elementary ability to distinguish friend from enemy. Functionally speaking, we’ve gone over to the other side — “the other side” being the side of our enemies. Those who wish us ill — both at home and abroad — have a friend in John Kerry, speaking yesterday in Jakarta.

The Year of Living Dangerously was set in Jakarta, was it not? That works too. From the detached point of view, however, we’re living comically in the Age of Obama.

Let’s see if I’ve got this straight: Secretary of State John Kerry, owner of five multi-million dollar mansions along with a luxury yacht, has seen fit to lecture Indonesians (average income in 2012: $3,420) about why global warming climate change is “perhaps the world’s most fearsome weapon of mass destruction.”

We are ganging up on John Kerry this morning. Here’s the thing–Kerry has a number of problems, but the most basic is that he isn’t very bright. He doesn’t have a high enough IQ for difficult work. As a senator, he hid his incapacity by ignoring virtually all of his job duties. As Secretary of State, his ineptitude–one might say shocking ineptitude, if this were not the Obama administration–is being exposed.

In the mood for some climate change humor? Let me dazzle you with my brilliant wit:

Dallas — A so-called heat wave caused hundreds of injuries across the Midwest last August, as people who said “it’s global warming!” and similar comments were punched in the face.

Authorities in several states said that residents who had made ignorant comments erroneously citing the brutally hot temperatures as proof of anthropogenic climate change, were reporting a sharp increase in injuries to the face and head regions.

In an emergency room in Toledo, Harland Dorrinson, forty-one, was waiting to be treated for bruising to the facial area after he made a crack about how the scorching temperatures meant that “man-made global warming is for realz, you guys!”

“I’d just finished saying it and boom, out of nowhere someone punched me in the face,” he said. “This heat wave is really dangerous.”

The meteorology professor Davis Logsdon from the University of Minnesota, issued a safety warning to residents of the states hammered by the historic high temperatures: “If you are living within the range of the heat wave and you have something idiotic to say about climate change, do not leave your house.”
