Sweet Cakes By Melissa Refuses to Comply With Gag Order

aaron+and+melissa2

As you might have heard, the state of Oregon has decreed that Sweet Cakes by Melissa  must pay $135,000 to the lesbian couple whom they (apparently) “mentally raped” by refusing to bake their wedding cake.

Via Rachel Lu at the Federalist:

The final judgment, which came last Thursday, came with another twist. Aaron and Melissa Klein have also been given a “cease and desist” order, which effectively decrees they must refrain from stating their continued intention to abide by their moral beliefs.

Let’s be clear on why this is so sinister. There are times when speech rights conflict with other legitimate social goods. The public’s right to know can conflict with individual privacy rights. Sometimes threats to public safety warrant keeping secrets. There can be interesting debates about intellectual property rights. These cases can get tricky, and we should all understand that speech rights necessarily do have certain pragmatic limits.

None of those concerns apply here. The Kleins did not threaten public safety. They violated no one’s privacy or property rights. Rather, the Oregon labor commissioner, Brad Avakian, wanted to silence them because the content of their speech. Presumably he was angry that the Kleins’ defiant stance had earned them a potentially profitable reputation as heroes for religious freedom. They were meant to be humiliated and cowed; instead there was a real chance they would land on their feet. So they had to be gagged to prevent that from happening.

If the First Amendment doesn’t apply to a case like this, it is meaningless.

This is spiteful, vindictive bullying — straight-up. The idea is to prevent them from getting public support like other victims of the Gaystapo have (in the form of donations and business and even words of encouragement.)

The good news is – the Kleins have decided to fight the gag order:

‘I refuse to comply’: Owner of bakery fined $135,000 not intimidated by accompanying gag order

The order was signed by Brad Avakian, the commissioner of the BOLI and a vocal supporter of the LGBTQIA community.

“Within Oregon’s public accommodations law is the basic principle of human decency that every person, regardless of their sexual orientation, has the freedom to fully participate in society,” the ruling states. “The ability to enter public places, to shop and dine, to move about unfettered by bigotry.”

On a side note here – I predicted that once gay marriage was legalized, LGBTQIA supporters would attempt to silence all dissent.

Avakian has publicly stated his intentions to target Christian business owners who do not comply with his way of thinking. Here’s what he told The Oregonian about Sweet Cakes By Melissa in 2013:

“The goal is never to shut down a business. The goal is to rehabilitate.”

Here we have a government employee who wants to “rehabilitate” Christian business owners like the Kleins. How exactly does Avakian plan on purging their religious beliefs? Is the state of Oregon running a reeducation camp? Or maybe they prefer to use shock therapy.

I’m truly interested to know what sort of conversion therapy treatments Avakian uses. However, he won’t return my telephone calls.

The Kleins did not seem all that concerned about Avakian’s order to remain silent. The first thing they did after reading his edict was to call me.

“I don’t really care,” Mr. Klein told me. “This man has no power over me. He seems to think he can tell me to be quiet. That doesn’t sit well with me – and I refuse to comply.”

The Kleins tell me they have been ordered not to speak to any news organizations or speak publicly – an order they violated when they called me.

“They picked the wrong guy,” Mr. Klein said. “When my constitutional freedoms have been violated by the state, I’m going to speak out. That’s the way it is.”

You can now buy cakes on the Klein’s carefully worded website.

I’ve also added a link to their website on my right sidebar.

Churches Defaced in SC, CA With Obscene, Pro- Gay Messages

So – – churches in America are now being defaced by gay radicals – two in the past couple of weeks.

In California, a Catholic church was defaced with obscenities and pro-Gay messages over the Easter Weekend.

St. Jude Catholic Church of the City of Westlake Village was defaced on Easter weekend. The following brief story appeared in the April 11, 2013 issue of The Acorn, a community newspaper that serves Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Oak Park, and Westlake Village in California:

“Vandals targeted the 32000 block of Lindero Canyon Road sometime between Fri., March 29 and Sat., March 30, authorities said.

“The graffiti included a reference to homosexuality, several four-letter words and a swastika, a source told The Acorn. One scrawl reportedly said, ‘God is gay.’”

The story got no attention outside the small communities mentioned above.

And in South Carolina, a Christian church sustained $10,000 worth of damage.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a church was vandalized sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Bales Memorial Wesleyan Church in Jamestown was spray painted, had flowers torn up, parking signs were ripped up and windows were broken.

The church sign was also broken and letters removed and the front entrance to the church was egged and sprayed with silly string.

One spray-painted message on the church door reads, “God loves (expletive)!!! He hates you!” Another said “Gay’s ok!”

The church bus was also damaged by the suspects keying the hood and pushing a sign through the front grill.

Damage is estimated at about $10,000, according to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office. Members of the church spent Saturday cleaning up.

Note that these anti-Christian bigots mimicked the Westboro Baptist church’s (un-Christian) hateful message.  Instead of “God hates fags”, they said  “God loves (expletive)!!! He hates you!”

Sadly, the way our culture has been going, we’ll be seeing  more of this in the months to come.

Meanwhile, in another part of the world, a Christian church in Egypt was also the target of radicals, this past month.

At least seven people were wounded in an attack on a Christian church in the Egyptian province of Minya late Friday, in the latest incident of violence against the country’s Coptic Christian minority. The church had been established to commemorate the 20 Coptic Christians beheaded in Libya by the Islamic State militant group. Thirteen of the victims came from Minya’s al-Our village, where the church was being built, Daily News Egypt reported Sunday.

Coptic residents of al-Our had obtained permission to build the church in the aftermath of the beheadings in Libya, which left the impoverished village’s Christian community devastated. Thousands of people had mourned the victims following the release of an Islamic State video last month showing the men being executed. The beheadings prompted the Egyptian government to begin an air campaign in Libya targeting the militant group, also known as ISIS.

And in Mosel Iraq,  ISIS destroyed Christian grave sites.

Via Fox News:

Even Iraq’s dead Christians aren’t safe from ISIS.

The Islamic State’s campaign of terror across the war-torn nation, which has already seen countless beheadings, destruction of priceless art and religious artifacts and insistence that Christians submit or die, now includes mass desecration of graves. Photos of the black-clad, extremist ghouls smashing headstones in cemeteries in the key northern city of Mosul were posted Thursday online under the title “Leveling Graves and Erasing Pagan Symbols.”

The ideological cousins of militant Islamists, are militant homosexuals, strangely enough. (Note, I say “militant” – as in fanatical, unhinged ideologues. Obviously most gays do not fall into this category, but unfortunately a rather loud and influential cohort does.) Both are fascistic, totalitarian freaks who demand that their worldview be embraced or there’ll be hell to pay. Both wish to totally control the culture and humiliate and subjugate those who don’t embrace it.

That one type of fascism is more bloodthirsty than the other only adds irony to the mix. Homosexuals, of course, are among the most persecuted individuals in Islamic societies.

15 Muslim Migrants Arrested In Italy After Hurling 12 Christian Refuges Off Boat

A massive influx of refuges and migrants from war-torn and impoverished African nations have been making their way across the Mediterranean from Libya to Sicily. According to the Italian Coast Guard, more than 10,000 people have made the desperate journey on rickety, often un-sea-worthy boats since last weekend.

CNN reports that as many as 400 migrants have been lost at sea.

The tragedy adds to the mounting death toll among those fleeing war and poverty in Africa and the Middle East.

So far this year as many as 900 have lost their lives. Last year at least 3,200 died making the journey. Since 2000, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), almost 22,000 people have died fleeing across the Mediterranean.

12 Christian refuges lost their lives during a particularly harrowing trip — not due to their boat capsizing – but through Islamic violence.

The IB Times reports:

Italian police have arrested 15 Muslim immigrants in Palermo, for allegedly having thrown Christian refugees off the rubber boat that was taking them to Italy after a fight for “religious reasons”, according to media reports.

Those arrested – from Mali, Guinea and Ivory Coast – were part of a group of 100 that were rescued off the Libyan coast by the Italian coastguard.

After their arrival in Palermo, the other migrants informed police that 12 Christian refugees were hurled off the boat and killed after a religious row with the 15 Muslims that were later arrested. Among the arrested is a 17-year-old, according to Repubblica newspaper.

Video: Obama Slams “Less than Loving” Christians As Christian Genocide Continues Throughout the World

On Good Friday, Pope Francis seemed to be speaking directly to the president of the United States when he denounced the “complicit silence” of leaders in the face of Christian genocide. In his address to tourists in St. Peter’s Square, Monday, Francis revisited the subject, exhorting leaders of the free world to do something about the slaughters of Christians that are happening in several parts of the world.

Addressing pilgrims and tourists in St. Peter’s Square, Francis praised those who were “sensitizing public opinion about the persecution of Christians in the world.”

While not suggesting any particular course of action, he urged “concrete participation and tangible help in defense and protection of our brothers and our sisters, who are persecuted, exiled, slain, beheaded, solely for being Christian.”

The pontiff said that the martyrs of today outnumber those of the first centuries.

“I hope that the international community doesn’t stand mute and inert before such unacceptable crimes, which constitute a worrisome erosion of the most elementary human rights. I truly hope that the international community doesn’t look the other way.” Francis declared.

Meanwhile, the president of the United States Barack Obama continues omit the word “Christian” in White House statements condemning Muslim atrocities – most recently in his response to the massacre of 150 Christians at Kenya’s Garissa University College, last week, where he substituted “innocent men and women” for Christians.

At the National Prayer Breakfast earlier this year, however, the president had no trouble identifying Christians as perpetrators of atrocities hundreds of years ago – during the crusades and inquisition.

And this morning, Obama, still pretending that he’s a Christian himself, seemed to go after his Christian opponents, as he veered off script during the White House Easter Prayer Breakfast (where the Reverend Al was among the guests.)

“On Easter, I do reflect on the fact that, as a Christian, I am supposed to love,” the president said during the breakfast at the White House. “And I have to say that, sometimes when I listen to other less-than-loving expressions by Christians, I get concerned.”

Steve Hayes, Editor of the Weekly Standard, noted on Fox News that it was odd that Obama would use the occasion of the prayer breakfast to talk about Christians not being loving – rather than the recent massacre of Christians in Kenya, Nigeria and elsewhere.

“It’s not just that he didn’t take this opportunity to point out the struggles Christians are dealing with throughout the world, Hayes said. “It’s also his focus on ‘non-loving things’ Christians are saying at the same time that his administration just this past week sort of shrugged off these ‘death to America’ chants that we heard in Iran – led and embraced by the Iran Supreme Leader.”

Hayes continued, “he doesn’t seem to be troubled by those…but he likes to focus on the alleged misdeeds or misstatements or anger of Christians.”

He agreed with Martha MacCallum that president’s lack of  a response to the Pope’s exhortation for help was “strange.”

“Sometimes the silence from the president says more than his words do,” Hayes noted.

Gateway Pundit:  Obama Bashes “Foolish” Scott Walker For Not Trusting Iranian Regime (Video) …Update: Walker Responds:

Obama, who had absolutely no foreign policy experience when he was elected president, said Walker needed to take some time to “bone up on foreign policy.”
CBS News reported:

President Obama says Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker would be taking a foolish approach if he follows through with vows to revoke a nuclear deal with Iran if elected president.

The president was asked in an NPR News interview about Walker’s recent comments promising to reject any Iran deal Mr. Obama reaches on his first day as president.

And if the president’s ability to strike agreements starts being questioned, Mr. Obama told NPR, it will be a problem for allies and embolden U.S. enemies. He says he’s confident anyone knowledgeable enough to be elected president “won’t won’t start calling to question the capacity of the executive branch of the United States to enter into agreements with other countries.”

The president said in the interview, “It would be a foolish approach to take, and, you know, perhaps Mr. Walker, after he’s taken some time to bone up on foreign policy, will feel the same way.

Um yeah. Obama – whose appalling policies have contributed to the horrifying debacles we’ve been witnessing throughout the world – has the unmitigated GALL to lecture Republicans on foreign policy. At this point any Tom Dick or Harry randomly chosen from the phone book would do a better job than this idiot – this SCOAMF.

Sorry for that “less than loving expression” of disgust with the heinous presidency of Barack Obama.

Coulter: Cowardly Christians Would Rather Get Ebola Than Be Called a Homophobe (Video)

On The O’Reilly Factor, Thursday night, Bill O’Reilly tied the genocide against Christians throughout the Middle East with the verbal abuse and political persecution Christians are feeling in the United States. He had Ann Coulter on to discuss what is going on with this “War on Christians” as he put it.

“Christians are being slaughtered all over the place,” O’Reilly said. “Here in USA,verbal attacks against Christians are in the headlines.”

“No question, it is open season on Christians,” O’Reilly added, lambasting church clerics who don’t stand up for their faith.

Coulter said “the media has been subjecting us to a whole series of fake stories where we have a new hate campaign each week from ‘hands up, don’t shoot’ to ‘fraternity rape at UVA’ to hysteria over nuclear power. This week’s hate just happens to be on the Christians,” which she argued is part of a longer trend.

“This is a direct attack on Christians,” she said, “but I wouldn’t but so much stress on what’s happening in other countries. The rest of the world is a cesspool of violence and atrocities.”

“Where are the Christians and where are the Republicans?” she exclaimed. “I’m glad this Mike Pence isn’t running for president. They are falling like toy soldiers.”

O’Reilly noted that about 80% of Americans identify as Christians but they are getting “thumped” by about 8%. “How does that happened?” he asked.

“Because these small town owners of pizzerias have more Christian courage than most Christian leaders and CERTAINLY the Republican party,” Coulter answered.

The one thing a Christian should have in their life, she argued, is courage. “Eternity is already taken care of. Go out and fight. You’re afraid of being sneered at by the NYTs? That is the one thing every Christian should have, and most of them don’t. ”

O’Reilly said that there isn’t an organized attempt by Christians (as there is in the gay lobby, etc.) to defend their faith. “Isn’t that strange?”

“It is strange,” she agreed. “And I am telling you  it is cowardice. Most people would rather risk getting Ebola than be called a homophobe, a racist – the horrible accusations and ad hominem attacks thrown at Christians in this country. And it’s time for Christians to recognize that the big thing’s taken care of. Could you be courageous and fight for the most consequential nation on earth?”
