Flight 93 Memorial Blogburst #5

Lying about the 44 blocks

When Tom Burnett Sr. came out against the Flight 93 Memorial, the press asked architect Paul Murdoch if there were really going to be 44 inscribed translucent blocks emplaced along the flight path (equaling the number of passengers, crew, AND terrorists). Murdoch acknowledged 43 of the blocks, but denied knowing about a 44th:

[T]here are 40 inscribed marble panels listing the names of the passengers and crew at the gateway to the Sacred Ground, where their remains still rest. There is then an opening in the wall, Mr. Murdoch said, and three additional panels, which would include the date, Sept. 11, 2001.

“Where the other one is being fabricated, I don’t know,” he said.

Yes he does. Paul Murdoch is fully aware of the large dedicatory glass block at the end of the Entry Portal Walkway:

44th glass block, at end of Entry Portal Walkway

Man and child stand in front of the 44th block, which forms the railing at the end of the Entry Portal Walkway. The glass block will be inscribed: “A field of honor forever.” This Walkway provides visitors with their first view of the inside of the giant crescent. (From the Entry Portal page of the original design PDFs. Click pic for wider view.)

The flight path

The Entry Portal Walkway is built along the flight path. It signifies, in Paul Murdoch’s own description, the terrorists breaking the circle and turning it into a giant crescent. The flight path then continues down to the crash site, which sits in the middle of the mouth of the giant crescent (in roughly the position of the star on an Islamic crescent and star flag).

Just before the impact point is the Memorial Wall, also built along the flight path. This two part wall is where the other 43 blocks will be placed (the ones described by Paul Murdoch above):

Memorial Wall with 43 glass blocks emplaced

The forty translucent blocks that run horizontally through the left hand section of wall (closest to the impact crater) will be inscribed with the names of the forty murdered heroes. The three on the right will be inscribed with the 9/11 date. (From the Sacred Ground Plaza page of the original design PDF’s. Click pic for larger image. The alternating white and gray depicts the zig zag layout of the translucent blocks.)

Challenged by the father of one of our murdered heroes, Murdoch told a desperate lie, feigning ignorance of one of the most prominent features of his own design: the huge glass block that dedicates the entire site. This should have been the end of his hijack attempt, but Murdoch’s deception was abetted by both the Memorial Project and the press.

The abettors

“That has been disproved so many times,” said Bill Hayworth, the Memorial Project’s PR flack, when asked about the 44 blocks. Would it have been too much for reporters to ask for this proof?

In fact Murdoch is the first one to ever even deny that there are 44 glass blocks on the flight path. The only earlier Memorial Project statement about the 44 blocks was from Project Manager Jeff Reinbold, who told Alec Rawls in an April 2006 conference call that the giant glass block can’t be counted with the small glass blocks because it is bigger: “If we are going to count the big glass block with the small glass blocks,” he said, “then we have to count the windows in the visitor center too.” (Crescent of Betrayal, download 3, p. 146.)

“The windows in the visitor center are not on the flight path,” Rawls replied. He never said they were all the same size, and he never said there are no other panes of glass in the Memorial. Reinbold’s silly dodges do not contradict Rawls’ 44 glass blocks claim in any way.

The press was also in on the deception. Kecia Bal, the reporter who quoted Hayworth’s dismissal of the 44 blocks claim had already verified the block count for herself. Mr. Rawls had earlier sent her close ups of all 44. She responded with a request for copies of the original design PDFs, so she could check the veracity of these close-ups for herself.

When Bal quoted Hayworth, she knew he was wrong, and allowed him to mislead the public by suppressing her own fact checking of the 44 blocks. People can think that the 44 blocks are innocuous if they want, but lying about the block count certainly is not innocuous. Similarly for many the other lies that are being told in defense of the crescent design.

Memorial Project members insist that it is just coincidence that a person facing directly into the giant crescent will be facing almost exactly at Mecca, but that isn’t what they are telling the public. They are telling the newspapers that the Mecca-orientation claim is false, while acknowledging amongst themselves that the Mecca orientation is real.

Again and again Murdoch, the Memorial Project and the press are lying in concert to cover up the facts of the design. Some people will be unsure what to make of the many suspicious features of the crescent design but no one should doubt the need to expose and condemn those who lie about the facts.

So what can we do? Write, phone or fax the memorial project.

Be respectful, use your own words, but clearly send the message that you agree with Tom Burnett, Sr., that they should respect his wishes that his son’s name should be kept off the memorial, and that a more appropriate memorial should be constructed on the crash site; one that doesn’t memorialize the terrorists because in Flight 93 National Memorial Act, Pub. L. No. 107-226, the purpose of the memorial is spelled out: it is to honor the passengers and crew of the flight, and the last section of the law excludes the terrorists from the definition of passengers and crew.

S.F. Performance Artist/Terrorist/Clown Booked On 5 Felony Charges

21298329-ff9a-455b-a0ad-6494b362fdec_ms.jpeg

Did militant atheism just get a little bit more militant?

Terrorism, San Francisco Style:

A San Francisco performance artist, out on bail from charges that he prematurely torched the Burning Man festival’s namesake effigy in August, is back in jail for allegedly trying to set fire to the historic Grace Cathedral, police said Monday.

Paul Addis was taken into custody on the top steps of the cathedral around 11:40 p.m. Sunday with an ammunition belt of small explosives strapped around his waist, said San Francisco police spokesman Sgt. Steve Mannina.

This booking photo is from the August arrest. He posted the $25,632 bond for that charge, and was released from jail. This time around, he’s in much deeper doo doo:

Addis was booked on five felony charges attempted arson, possession of arson materials, possession of a destructive device, arson of a church, violation of a court order and a misdemeanor for altering a firearm, according to the sheriff’s department.

He remained in jail late Monday in lieu of $488,000 bail.

Let’s see him post that one.

No Bail For Goose Creek Pipebomb Suspect

Anybody hearing about this case in the MSM? I didn’t think so.

Michelle Malkin’s covering it, though:

On Friday, Judge Steven D. Merryday denied Goose Creek jihadi suspect Youssef Megahed’s bid for bail. He called him a flight risk and said he posed a danger to the community (hat tip: reader Lynne S.):

A University of South Florida student charged with transporting explosives will not be released on bail, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

In ruling that Youssef Megahed poses a flight risk and a danger to the community, Judge Steven D. Merryday overturned a Sept. 14 ruling by federal Magistrate Elizabeth Jenkins, who said the defendant could be released on $200,000 bail under strict conditions.

If you’re wondering why nary a word about this case is being covered in the MSM, Joel Mowbray from the Washington Times has some ideas:

When someone with seething anger toward U.S. soldiers drives a car filled with explosive materials two states away to a naval station, how is that not major news?

Contrast that to the coverage afforded the recent mistrial in the government’s case against Holy Land Foundation, an alleged front for Hamas.
The mistrial was spun by most mainstream media outlets as a major defeat to U.S. counterterrorism efforts. The New York Times dedicated over 1,200 words in a page-one story. The Washington Post was a bit more restrained, putting its coverage on page three, but the editorial page ran a stinging criticism by Georgetown Professor David Cole of supposed government overreach.

So how does this work exactly?

What is an appropriate terror related news story?

-American soldiers killed in Iraq or Afghanistan…..check.

-American soldiers accused of malfeasance…….check

-Defeat of counterterrorism efforts……. check.

-Success in counterterrorism efforts……crickets

-Capture of suspected terrorists…….crickets

-Major attack on US soil………check, check, and double check.

The Battle On The Homefront

When we speak of “the war of ideas”, we are speaking figuratively in most cases. The “real” war is in Iraq and Afghanistan. But on American Campuses, today, there is a real battle going on, as demonstrated by the pictures and videos that came out of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, last week. Conservative students, and speakers have their work cut out for them against a dug in leftist-Islamist alliance made up of students and faculty. Last week’s event also brought in outside interested parties, from the political left to help protest the protest.

David Horowitz expressed his gratitude, and admiration for the conservative students who braved the hostile crowds, and put up with much abuse to put on these events at 114 college, and university campuses:

Our speakers showed admirable courage in their willingness to endure the slander and attacks they knew that challenging the left would entail. But it was our students who braved the fiercest attacks from members of their campus communities. I can’t say enough how proud I am of the students I met this week on the campuses I visited, and the many others who worked with us to make this week a success. Without their willingness to stand up and be counted, there would have been no Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week.

I know why they did it. I have been speaking on college campuses for twenty years and I have never seen conservative students so ready to engage in conflicts that would invite such vicious attacks, alienate their professors and cause them to lose friends because of the vicious intimidations of the campus left. The reason they have become willing to do this now is simple. It is because of the example set by their brothers and sisters in the frontlines in Iraq.

He relates the story of one particular student:

When counter-protesters closed down my speech at Emory University, I remembered my first appearance in there in 2002, during the controversy over reparations. I had been invited by the chair of the College Republicans, a student named Lyle Rubin. Lyle was a bookish, intellectual type, a political science major. Our meeting left me concerned that he would not be aggressive enough to handle the attacks that were already coming his way not only from students and professors, but from “Student Life” deans who were instigator of the protests that attended my visit.

A few years later, I received an email from Lyle which he had sent to a list of his friends informing us that he was in his second week at Marine boot camp and asking if we would write him keep his spirits up so that he could survive the ordeals for which his previous life had not prepared him. Our students see members of their generation ready to put their lives on the line to defend their freedoms. They understand that the war is being waged at home as well. And they are not going to let their brothers and sisters in uniform shoulder the burden alone.

A well deserved kudos to all those conservative students fighting the good fight.

Left-Wing Bully Steered Jury In Holy Land Foundation Case

Powerline has a reader, Donna D. , a self described “HLF trial watcher”, who has forwarded some interesting information to them from the Dallas Morning News. One jurer, William Neal has spoken publicly about the government’s case, and the jury’s deliberations. His words, and attitude have caused some to believe that the case should be tried again.

Neal has ardently attacked the government case as well as certain of his fellow jurors, whose education and insight he finds lacking. He sounds like he imbibes his news and attitude from National Public Radio. Donna dubs Neal “the bully juror.” The Dallas Morning News article quotes Neal’s interview (audio accessible at the link) with a local Dallas radio station. Donna writes:

The Dallas Morning News article cut out some Neal’s most revealing statements — see comparison excerpts below. If anyone doubts this case should be tried again, they just need to listen to this bully juror’s interviews. As Jason Trahan noted in his article, “Mr. Neal admitted he ran roughshod over most other panelists, whose intellectual abilities he has criticized.” Among other things, Neal has gone on record to say that he didn’t even think the defense needed to stand up and present a case; that the prosecution case was “a waste of time;” that the case was only about George Bush. “George Bush shut them down and he’s just trying to make sure that he gets that case closed.” He said the reason for the loss of the first juror after a week was the juror thought they were guilty and just did not want to argue about it any more. He is taking credit for having turned the jury away from their own opinions that the defendants were guilty.

You can read the interviews over at Powerline. If ever there was somebody who needed to be excused from a jury, this prick, Neal, was it.
