Obama’s Diplomacy With America’s Enemies Working Out About As Well As You’d Expect

If there’s one thing the Obama administration excels at – it’s brokering deals with America’s enemies that benefit them to our detriment. This is the one area in which the Regime can actually claim to have been successful.

Take Obama’s “historic” nuke deal with Iran. What a triumph, huh? Let’s see if I’ve got this straight: Iran is not legally bound to do a damn thing because the deal “is not a treaty or an executive agreement, and is not a signed document.”

The “deal” creates a path to nuclear weapons for Iran, while rewarding the Islamic Republic with at least $150 billion dollars in sanctions relief – cash that Iran can use to rebuild its military and fund terrorism in the short-term. Cool beans. (For them.)

Not sure what we get out of the deal, but an Obama official told congress last year that its success “will depend not on whether it is legally binding or signed, but rather on the extensive verification measures” and our “capacity to reimpose and ramp up our sanctions if Iran does not meet its commitments.”

And what do those extensive verification measures look like? Other than the counterproductive condition that Iran gets to be notified 24 days in advance of an inspection…?

Well, the Washington Free Beacon reported yesterday that the deal actually limits inspectors from publicly reporting on potential violations by Iran.

Yukiya Amano, chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, which is responsible for ensuring Iran complies with the agreement, told reporters that his agency is no longer permitted to release details about Iran’s nuclear program and compliance with the deal.

Amano’s remarks come on the heels of a February IAEA oversight report that omitted many details and figures related to Iran’s nuclear program. The report sparked questions from outside nuclear experts and accusations from critics that the IAEA was not being transparent with its findings.

Which is amazing because I think we were promised that this whole thing was going to be ultra-transparent, like everything else the Obama Regime does.

Obama sold transparency and compliance oversight as the two big wins for US and UN from the deal in his July 14th speech:

Today, because America negotiated from a position of strength and principle, we have stopped the spread of nuclear weapons in this region. Because of this deal, the international community will be able to verify that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not develop a nuclear weapon.

This deal meets every single one of the bottom lines that we established when we achieved a framework earlier this spring. Every pathway to a nuclear weapon is cut off. And the inspection and transparency regime necessary to verify that objective will be put in place.

Senator Bob Corker noted during a recent hearing: “Since the agreement was signed in July, Iran has continued to flout the U.N. not only by giving arms to Yemen and Syria but also sending Gen. Qasem Soleimani, chief of Iran’s elite military Qods Force, and other sanctioned officials to Russia, Iraq and elsewhere and by refusing to fully cooperate with the IAEA investigation into its nuclear weapons research.”

But at least Iran has toned down its warmongering and threatening rhetoric, right?

Well…

That was put out by the Islamic Revolution Design House, a media outfit associated with Iranian hardliners. It debuted last summer at an Iranian conference of religious scholars that featured “speaker after speaker calling Israel’s annihilation inevitable and promising that a new phase in that effort is about to begin.”

Wow. I wonder if that new phase involves nukes?

Iran has also repeatedly violated  U.N. Security Council resolutions forbidding ballistic missile testing.

Their most recent ballistic missile test came a day after the nuclear watchdog organization disclosed the deal limits inspectors from publicly reporting on potential violations by Iran.

Via The Washington Free Beacon:

Iranian leaders now say that they are poised to walk away from the deal if the United States and other global powers fail to advance the Islamic Republic’s “national interests.”

“If our interests are not met under the nuclear deal, there will be no reason for us to continue,” Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, warned during remarks delivered to a group of Iranian officials in Tehran.

“If other parties decide, they could easily violate the deal,” Araqchi was quoted as saying by Iran’s state-controlled media. “However, they know this will come with costs.”

Araqchi appeared to allude to the United States possibly leveling new economic sanctions as a result of the missile test. The Obama administration moved forward with new sanctions earlier this year as a result of the country’s previous missile tests.

Suffice it to say, Obama’s nuke deal will go down as the biggest, most counterproductive diplomatic dumpster fire in American history.

Now lets talk about Cuba because the Obama Regime has been working overtime to produce a flaming debacle for the American public to enjoy on that front, too.

Investor’s Business Daily reports that “there are signs of trouble” with Obama’s much ballyhooed March 21 visit.

After all, this is not a normal relationship. The Cuban government’s goodwill toward the U.S. is nil, even as Obama showers goodies on them and caves in to their every demand. A presidential visit is the last thing they deserve.

Yet the administration justifies the junket by saying the president’s trip will “advance our progress and improve the lives of the Cubans,” as White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough tweeted in Spanish. And indeed that’s an echo of President Obama’s original precondition to not visit Cuba until the Castroites improve the rights of Cuba’s citizens — who are fleeing the island in droves now,  out of fear the Obama-Castro bromance will lead to an end of their migration privileges, a topic seemingly ignored. Notice the verbal sleight-of-hand: The Obama administration has subtly shifted its goal to now say the trip itself will improve the conditions of Cubans.

For Cubans, there have been nothing but problems. For one, dissident arrests have risen fivefold since Obama announced the normalization of ties in late 2014. Some “improvement.”

Now there’s even a question of which critics of the regime Obama will be allowed to meet in Havana. In repeated messages, Obama has stated that he wants to meet Cubans from “all walks of life” to justify this trip to Americans.

The situation got so bad last week that Secretary of State John Kerry canceled his preparatory trip to Cuba after Cuban officials told him which Cuban dissidents President Obama could meet — and which ones he couldn’t. It was a valid reason to call off a trip. Heads of state in countries with normal relations don’t tell each other who they can meet.

But President Obama’s trip is still a “go,” even as Cuba’s henchmen dictate which dissidents he can see — and which will wind up in prison to keep them out of sight.

It will be the type of phony Potemkin affair that makes Communists glow with pride. Which is why you can bet that after his trip, Obama will proudly speechify about his his triumphant, historic trip to Cuba and how he preached hope and change to the poor Cuban dissidents — the ones he was allowed to see, anyway.

Who would have ever expected such treachery from an American president?

Not a Candidate; A Warning

The following is a guest post from Mike Banzet, a retired major in the U.S. Air Force, and author of A Flower Shop in Baghdad:

trump

Donald Trump has been much in the news lately. Republicans seem to really hate him, Democrats really, really hate him, the media hates him, and apparently, everyone in the rest of the world hates him. He uses course language: “stupid” is the favorite descriptor for a wide range of dysfunctions, and his policy solutions are usually a three step process.

1. I’m Awesome.

2. I’ll find Awesome people.

3. There will be an Awesome result.

And yet Trump is well ahead of the field, blowing through super Tuesday like a hairy tumbleweed. Of the other top Republican contenders one is an accomplished lawyer who has won the right kinds of cases, including at the Supreme court; articulate, smart, patriotic, but unfortunately, looks a bit like “Count Chocula”, and people seem to think that’s “creepy”. The other believes that the reason this country exits is to provide a place for refugees to come to and thinks he is running for President of Cuba.

Then there is John Kaisich, who apparently is there to get snacks for the candidates. In a just world, Ted Cruz would be measuring the drapes in the White House. But he’s not.

Why?

Donald Trump is no great conservative champion: he has proven through the years to take whatever positions are most advantageous to him at the time. To be fair, that was his only responsibility; growing his business, making more money and employing thousands of people while getting fabulously wealthy himself. In order to do that he has paid for many politicians, including the Clintons. He overpaid.

But so what? What have the great conservative champions done for the party of the right? The recently passed omnibus bill has pulled back the curtain on the inner workings of the exclusive Washington club.

Where the little folks who elected this bunch of integrity traders are a distant, if considered, thought.

The omnibus was a complete invalidation of the reasons that conservatives were elected in the first place. So all of grade A, super conservative, by-the-book, National-Review-Approved-Conservatives accomplished no more than if all conservatives had voted for liberals.

I don’t even need to know a thing that was in the bill. If the opposition gushes that it was a complete victory and they got more than they expected, that’s good enough for me to condemn Republicans.

Whether by cowardice, incompetence or corruption, the Republican party is ineffective. In spite the inherent disadvantages of being the party of grownups, America sent alleged conservatives to state and federal positions in historic numbers in recent elections. And have produced nothing of note, except smug Democrats. If the other team is doing celebrations, you are in the wrong end-zone.

And what does that have to do with Trump? Everything. As mentioned above, he doesn’t have much on the way of provable bona-fides for the conservative club. He seems like a blue collar guy who just happens to have tons of money, fame and lots of hair products. He doesn’t have a lot of specifics on his positions, and isn’t super articulate in the ones he does have. Ironically, he’s really not a good candidate for either the Republicans OR the Democrats. So what is he?

A warning.

Donald Trump is a step in the continuum that, if not interrupted, ultimately results in the exercise of the Second Amendment. When the First Amendment loses its voice, the Second clears it’s throat. For so many in this country, the government has become unresponsive to them; growing ever more oppressive and aloof. The voting booth is where those issues are supposed to be rectified, but what happens when, through the proper exercise of voting; the government still tacks ever more leftward? The people haven’t; the government has. A large swath of the electorate feels alienated and oppressed by elected officials who refuse to live under the laws they pass.

The Founders had a remedy for that. After penning the rulebook for how the U.S Government is supposed to work, they realized that they should probably write down the rights of the people, just in case anyone got confused about who was supposed to serve who. And to serve as a restraint on an overreaching government, they put a couple of steps in the part of the rulebook that talks about people’s, individual (not collective, or as agents of a state) rights.

The first safeguard was speech. Through speech, and lots of it, there would be redress for an ever expanding government and any muffling of speech that was noxious to the ruling class. Like, “Don’t Tread on Me”. Now, the muffling is accomplished through safe spaces, trigger warnings, and the ever tiresome “-phobic, or -ist” slurs. And the shrinking violets we’ve elected allow themselves to be bullied into compliance with outrageous initiatives. Common sense, fiscal restraint and the will of the people evaporate as representatives that were elected based on one set of values suddenly see that looking the other way on illegal immigration or continuing racial and sexual discrimination results in them being able to command a slightly higher price for their integrity as they sell it off, slice by slice.

And then comes Trump.

Whatever the man’s failings, giving a hoot about what people think is not one of them. His narcissism is second only to the current White House Occupant. But it also makes him resistant to being swayed by negative comments, and the constant bullying of the left. If anything, he seems to thrive on negative energy. Not by rethinking positions, but by taking his ball and going home or doubling down. Don’t think he can build a wall? Well, he will, AND he will make Mexico pay for it. Mexico says no? It just got ten feet taller. An incredibly vain person has their strengths, and if their issue lines up with yours, you have a huge ally.

So, I don’t care about Trump’s conservative pedigree. We elected a whole raft of conservatives to the Senate and the House who’ve been waiting for something, I guess. If he just controls immigration, strengthens the military, and puts some discipline into government spending, that would be a HUGE win. The shrieking, mewling, crass bleats of the left will mean nothing to him, and may embolden him to greater issues. He can be a loud, obnoxious spine for the conservative cause.

The fact that he’s a candidate at all is an indicator of the times, the growing restlessness of a population that is frustrated that no one is listening. And every time someone criticizes Trump for the things he says, they are merely reinforcing the fact that the normal methods are becoming less and less effective.

In other words, Mitt should shut his pie hole. It’s ludicrous to have to defend thinking that illegal immigration is bad. That the Iraq War was a huge victory until the Democrats forfeited the sacrifices of their betters in order to skulk away from our young allies. That a country should be able to pay its bills.

Even if that means that trans-gendered tree frog mating habits in Zimbabwe must go un-studied.

The only thing that will hurt Donald Trump is if he starts backtracking on his signature issues. If he starts smelling like another politician, then he’s toast, and people will start applying the same rules to him as they do to others. Right now, he gets a pass. A scent of betrayal and he won’t.

He’s not the best candidate, but he’ll do. At least he’ll be crazy on our behalf.

weasel

It’s time once again for the Watcher’s Council’s ‘Weasel Of The Week’ nominations, where we pick our choices to compete for the award of the famed Golden Weasel to a public figure who particularly deserves to be slimed and mocked for his or her dastardly deeds during the week. Here are this weeks’ nominees….

Mitt Romney Falls Apart When Pressed On His Previous Support For Donald Trump
Failed GOP Candidate Mitt Romney!!

The Noisy Room : My nomination this week goes to Mitt Romney. Romney really stepped in it over Donald Trump. Sean Hannity came out and slammed him on being willing to maul someone in his own party, but wasn’t willing to go after Barack Obama. There are a couple of reasons for that. One, none of the weenies in the GOP dare to go after someone who is black. They are terrified of being called racist. Second, Romney is a Progressive just as Obama is. He’s not as much of one, but he quietly agrees with a number of stances of those on the left. Third, he views Donald Trump as a direct threat to the power structure of the GOP. So, hypocritically he goes out and attacks one of our own in a way he would never savage the left. It’s despicable.

While I am not a fan of Donald Trump’s currently, you just don’t do this. I also think this is a calculated move on Romney’s part and that is even worse. He asked people to vote for any candidate but Trump that they figured could win their state. That move was meant to fracture the party even further and to deliberately result in a brokered convention. He didn’t call for Cruz and Rubio to unite over Trump… he called for party divisiveness. This is exactly the type of thing that has resulted in the rise of Donald Trump. The manipulation, the corruption, the underhandedness, the dishonesty on both sides of the political aisle is epic. Trump is a Frankenstein of the GOP’s own making. Romney’s lambasting of him was disgraceful and showed the true face of Republican elitists. If we have a two-faced weasel, it should go to Romney.
