New TV Ad Hits Obama on Delphi Pension Heist: “It’s Made Life Pretty Rough”

I was saying just yesterday, team Romney needed to find some of these ex-Delphi workers who had their pensions looted at the hands of the Obama administration and let them tell their stories. A new TV ad from the conservative advocacy group, Let Freedom Ring does just that.

Via Matthew Boyle of The Daily Caller:

“I would ask President Obama why I had no rights and he had all the rights to take my pension away and never ever look back and say not only did I take it from Mary Miller, but I took it from 20,000 other people and their families,” one Delphi salaried retiree, Mary Miller, says in the ad.

“It’s made life pretty rough. I’ve really struggled to pay for the basics,” Miller also says in the ad, adding that the Obama administration’s actions led to her losing “over 30 percent of my pension.”

The ad is destined for television sets and online ads in the battleground states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia, Let Freedom Ring executive director Alex Cortes said in an email to The Daily Caller.

I think it hits all the right notes, unlike the Priorities USA “Mitt Romney Killed My Wife ad”  which went way over the line, some say actually jumping the shark, big time.
The Romney campaign actually addressed the Delphi pension issue, as well,  in an ad, last May:
“What? Wait a minute…is this still America?”, one woman plaintively asked at the end.
No ma’am. Clearly it’s not. It’s ObamAmerica where some people have more rights than others and policy is driven by Chicago rules.
This Presidential race should not even be close.
In these ads, a direct line can be made from the political decisions of the corrupt Obama administration’s policies  to these employees’ tragic outcomes, unlike the obscene Priorities USA ad that is based on falsehoods:

Joe Soptic, the former steel worker in the ad, blamed Mitt Romney for the death of his wife even though the steel plant he worked at closed after Romney left Bain. Mitt Romney left Bain 1999 to go work on the Winter Olympics. GST Steel went belly up in 2001. Soptic’s wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.
Only a crazy liberal would blame Romney for her death.

But there’s more…
CNN spoke to Joe Soptic, and found out that when he lost his GST job, his wife still was working and carried her own health insurance, which she then lost in 2002 or 2003 when an injury forced her to leave the job. She passed away in 2006.

Joe Soptic should be ashamed of himself.

As Political Clown Parade notes:

One can be certain he has been paid handsomely to spew lies about his wife’s death for the sole purpose of elevating the image of a president undeserving of his demented loyalty.
He has lost his wife in pieces over a long period of time.  The manner in which he has chosen to retell her loss is reprehensible.  I say it is reprehensible because his lust for money to repeat damned lies overshadows the needs of a country that can no longer bear the burden of a president who possesses uncommon incompetence.
Mr. Soptic is standing in a forest of sorrow and has lost his way.
Marcus Porcius of The Conservative Review is even more pointed in his criticism of Monsieur Soptic:

Let’s just put it out there plainly.  Joe Soptic is a vicious liar and union thug, and is so despicable that he would use his own dead wife, whose death he is far more responsible for then Mitt Romney, in a completely falsified ad to help his Marxist god Barack Obama.

Further details emerged about Soptic’s wife’s cancer too.  It turns out, when Joe Soptic said

I don’t know how long she was sick and I think maybe she didn’t say anything because she knew that we couldn’t afford the insurance, and then one day she became ill and I took her up to the Jackson County Hospital and admitted her for pneumonia and that’s when they found the cancer and by then it was stage four. It was, there was nothing they could do for her,

He was lying about that too.  He does know how long she was sick, and while she might not have said anything, the subject of his wife going to the doctor because something was obviously wrong did come up.

When Ranae started losing weight, “I tried to get her to the doctor and she wouldn’t go”

In other words, her cancer wasn’t caught because she wouldn’t go to the doctor and he didn’t do enough to persuade her.  It had nothing whatsoever to do with health insurance and he knows it.  He knew it when he made all these ads.

I have to agree.

Heart Wrenching Personal Suffering Caused By Obama Administration’s Termination of Delphi Pension Benefits

Breaking News today at the Daily Caller:

Emails obtained by The Daily Caller show that the U.S. Treasury Department, led by Timothy Geithner, was the driving force behind terminating the pensions of 20,000 salaried retirees at the Delphi auto parts manufacturing company.

The move, made in 2009 while the Obama administration implemented its auto bailout plan, appears to have been made solely because those retirees were not members of labor unions.

The internal government emails contradict sworn testimony, in federal court and before Congress, given by several Obama administration figures. They also indicate that the administration misled lawmakers and the courts about the sequence of events surrounding the termination of those non-union pensions, and that administration figures violated federal law.

Delphi, a 13-year old company that is independent of General Motors, is one of the world’s largest automotive parts manufacturers. Twenty thousand of its workers lost nearly their entire pensions when the government bailed out GM. At the same time, Delphi employees who were members of the United Auto Workers union saw their pensions topped off and made whole.

The White House and Treasury Department have consistently maintained that the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) independently made the decision to terminate the 20,000 non-union Delphi workers’ pension plan. The PBGC is a federal government agency that handles private-sector pension benefits issues. Its charter calls for independent representation of pension beneficiaries’ interests.

Ace sums up:
So the Administration made a ruthless decision to benefit its union allies over non-union workers. And then claimed they had not made this decision at all; an “outside” group, the PBGC, had made the decision.
But it turns out Treasury  “disinvited” the PBGC from discussions about the pensions, thus blocking them from making any of the decisions they are in fact supposed to handle. They weren’t even allowed in the room.

And now  the Obamahoods who looted the pensions of these non union employees, are now calling Mitt Romney the reverse Robin Hood for stealing from the 99%?….

The audacity.

For two years now, Michelle Malkin has been reporting on The Delphi Economic Horror Story:

The White House believes it can win back depressed and economically stressed voters by turning President Obama into the storyteller-in-chief again. But victims of Obama’s Chicago politics don’t want to hear any more of his own well-worn tales of struggle and sacrifice. They’ve got their own tragedies to tell — heart-wrenching dramas of personal and financial suffering at the very hands of Obama.

Consider the real-life horror story of 20,000 white-collar workers at Delphi, a leading auto parts company spun off from GM a decade ago. As Washington rushed to nationalize the U.S. auto industry with $80 billion in taxpayer “rescue” funds and avoid contested court termination proceedings, the White House auto team schemed with Big Labor bosses to preserve UAW members’ costly pension funds by shafting their nonunion counterparts. In addition, the nonunion pensioners lost all of their health and life insurance benefits.

The abused workers — most from hard-hit northeast Ohio, Michigan and neighboring states — had devoted decades of their lives as secretaries, technicians, engineers and sales employees at Delphi/GM. Some workers have watched up to 70 percent of their pensions vanish.

John Berent of Marblehead, Ohio, lost one-third of his pension: “I worked as a salaried employee for GM (30 years) and Delphi (10 years). After 40 years of dedicated service, I was forced to retire. Then Delphi terminated my health care, life insurance, vision, dental, then terminated the pension plan. Everything I worked 40 years for was wiped out.”

Kelly Fabrizio of Franksville, Wis., saw her pension reduced by 55 percent after working 30 years at Delphi/GM: “I am truly scared for my future. Every day I wake up, shake my head and say out loud — This Is Not How It Was Supposed To Be.”

Roger Hoke of Columbus, Mich., and his wife were both longtime Delphi workers. His pension shrunk by more than 40 percent: “After 33 years with GM and another 10 with Delphi, what did I do wrong to deserve such a fate?”

Bruce Gump, a former Delphi worker, testified at a hearing Examining the Delphi Bankruptcy’s Impact on Workers and Retirees, December 2, 2009.

You can listen to the whole thing, but starting especially at 3:21:

A woman who was forced into retirement at age 54 and had been working 30 years of dedicated service has lost all of her healthcare insurance and will lose more than half of her pension. She could barely afford to purchase a high deductible insurance policy to provide some protection for herself and her self employed husband. Two weeks later she found out she might have cancer. Because of the high deductible policy that she had she had to bare the entire  burden of the costs of the tests to determine if she would live or die.

Anyone on the Romney campaign want to follow up on that story? Or any of the 20,000 or more other tragic stories coming out of the Delphi disaster, Obamahood orchestrated?

Charles Cunningham, a former Delphi worker, also testified at the hearing examining the Delphi Bankruptcys Impact on Workers and Retirees in December 2, 2009. He hit the Obama administration on its lack of transparency.

We believe that further significant evidence concerning the discrimination against the Delphi salaried retirees exist in the Treasury and automotive Task Force documents related to the GM and Delphi bankruptcies. We’ve requested these documents under the FOIA over two months ago, but the production of these documents by the Treasury has not been forthcoming. In fact, a written request for these documents was also sent by Senator Enzi following a Senate Hearing on pensions on October 29, 2009. To date, this request has also been ignored……This is not transparency. This is not what we would expect from our government. I think it’s outrageous that we don’t know why we were treated in this manner…and our Congressional Leaders can’t know it.

Nearly three years later, we finally know the U.S. Treasury Department, led by Geithner, likely on orders from the White House, was the driving force behind the horrendous  Delphi disaster that victimized 20,000 workers.

I bet a large number of these folks wouldn’t mind appearing in a Romney ad to tell their stories, either.

Issa Subpoenas IRS Commissioner – IRS Required By Law To Keep Records of all Agency Emails

The Regime’s “dog ate my homework” excuse for losing 24,000 of 67,000 of Lois Lerner’s emails sent between 2009 and 2011 — ain’t gonna cut it.

Via the Daily Caller:

“The [Federal Records Act] requires agencies to make and preserve records of agency decisions, policies, and essential  transactions and to take steps to safeguard against the loss of agency records,” said House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa, who subpoenaed IRS Commissioner John Koskinen Monday.

The IRS’s own definition of the Federal Records Act makes clear that emails must be saved and documented, according to an instructional page for employees on the IRS website.

“The Federal Records Act applies to email records just as it does to records you create using other media,” according to the IRS. “Emails are records when they are: Created or received in the transaction of agency business. Appropriate for preservation as evidence of the government’s function and activities; or Valuable because of the information they contain.”

“If you create or receive email messages during the course of your daily work, you are responsible for ensuring that you manage them properly,” according to the IRS. “The Treasury Department’s current email policy requires emails and attachments that meet the definition of a federal record be added to the organization’s files by printing them (including the essential transmission data) and filing them with related paper records. If transmission and receipt data are not printed by the email system, annotate the paper copy.”

Obviously, the White House is deeply involved in the IRS scandal-  Obama and his flunkies have made that abundantly clear with their ongoing efforts to poo-poo and controversialize a legitimate investigation into IRS malfeasance.

Josh Earnest deployed the Regime’s tried and true “conspiracy theory” defense on reporters aboard Air Force One, yesterday. This is how they (as Sharyl Attkisson so aptly put it) “controversialize” a story that’s damaging to the Regime. Read closely.

Asked by a reporter aboard Air Force One whether he thought the technical glitch was in fact a “reasonable explanation,” Earnest, the incoming press secretary, was at first dismissive.

“You’ve never heard of a computer crashing before?” Earnest asked.

Regime: “Move on, you guys, nothing to see, here.”

When pressed that emails are stored on servers and not hard drives, Earnest gave a more detailed response, including attacking Republicans in Congress.

“I think it’s entirely reasonable because it’s the truth and it’s a fact,” Earnest said. “And speculation otherwise I think is indicative of conspiracies that are propagated in a way that left people with a disinformation about exactly what occurred.”

Regime: “Do you want to align yourselves with tea party conspiracy theorists?” Reporters’ expected response: “Oh God, no.”

Earnest said the IRS provided 67,000 emails to and from Lerner to congressional committees. He said this included emails during the period of time that the IRS said the crash included.

“So a good-faith effort has been made by the IRS to cooperate with congressional oversight,” Earnest continued. “The far-fetched skepticism expressed by some Republican members of Congress is not at all surprising and not particularly believable.”

Actually, it’s Josh Earnest’s pathetic spin that isn’t believable.

Via Communities Digital News, here’s Charles Krauthammer’s reaction to that on Special Report, Monday night.

Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer reminded viewers that one of the articles of impeachment brought against President Richard Nixon was the abuse of the IRS to pursue political enemies. A missing 18 ½ minutes of audio on Richard Nixon’s Watergate-era tapes versus 26 months of emails? “This is a high crime, this is not a triviality,” Krauthammer warned.

National Journal columnist Ron Fournier, who has, for the most part, been pretty supportive of the Obama administration had this sobering response: “Josh’s statement, with all due respect, is insulting to my intelligence — it really makes me angry. The reason there’s questions about this is because they haven’t answered the questions. The fact of the matter is that, we don’t know the facts, we don’t know if anybody is guilty here or not, but we do know that one of the most pernicious things our government can do is use the IRS to come after us.”

Obama White House is losing many of his liberal supporters because they can no longer defend him and retain any degree of self-respect. That leaves the hard left and the lofo default libs still in his camp.

Meanwhile, on another scandal front that the Regime has tried hard to controversialize: CNN Poll: 61% Say Obama Admin Has Been “Dishonest” With Details Of Benghazi Terror Attack…

(CNN) – Six in 10 Americans are dissatisfied with the way the Obama administration has handled the deadly terror attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, a new poll shows.

The CNN/ORC International poll released on Monday indicates only 37% are satisfied with the administration’s response to the September 2012 assault that killed four Americans, including the ambassador to Libya. [...]

Sixty-one percent of Americans surveyed think the administration has generally been dishonest in providing information about Benghazi in the aftermath of the attack.

The truth is finally catching up to this criminal cartel of a White House.

With the public becoming more aware of the Regime’s ongoing corruption and lawlessness, can the political remedy of impeachment finally become a reality?

We really need to get this guy out of there before he does any more damage to this country. I don’t care if that means the simpleton Biden becomes president – anything is better than this malignant tumor that’s been plaguing the nation for five and a half God-awful years in the person of Barack Hussein Obama.

UPDATE:

This is so brazen…

Via NRO:

It’s not just Lois Lerner’s e-mails. The Internal Revenue Service says it can’t produce e-mails from six more employees involved in the targeting of conservative groups, according to two Republicans investigating the scandal.

The IRS told Ways and Means chairman Dave Camp and subcommittee chairman Charles Boustany that computer crashes resulted in additional lost e-mails, including from Nikole Flax, the chief of staff to former IRS commissioner Steven Miller, who was fired in the wake of the targeting scandal.

The revelation about Lerner’s e-mails rekindled the scandal and today’s news has further inflamed Republicans. Camp and Boustany are now demanding a special prosecutor to investigate “every angle” of the targeting. They expressed particular outrage that the agency has known since February that it would not be able to produce the e-mails requested by the committee yet did not apprise the committee of that fact, and they charged in a statement that the IRS is attempting to “cover up the fact that it convenient lost key documents in the investigation.”

Ace says: “Because it’s politically chancey to even mention Impeachment, Obama is now basically daring the GOP to impeach him.”

I say, we take him up on the dare. I’ve had it with him, and so have most sentient beings.

UPDATE:

CBS News: Attkisson On Missing IRS Documents: If The Emails Really Are Lost, ‘That’s Quite A Story In Itself’

This is from a radio interview with Philadelphia talk show host Dom Giordano:

“These emails are not stored on a signal server or a single computer, so if there were a crash of a hard drive or some sort of system failure, they would still be retrievable. According to [John] Koskinen, the IRS Commissioner at the time, he told Congress that emails were stored offsite. That jives with people who said emails were backed up daily. There is a responsibility on the part of government officials to retain the data, make sure that is and can’t be lost in the system. If it’s true that the emails are lost, that’s quite a story in itself,” she said.

She thinks Congress should act fast to investigate if anyone inside the IRS is attempting to hide or destroy the emails.

“I would call in certain officials. Let’s assume there could have been some mischief committed — before they have time to get their stories straight and fix things up, I would get them in there under oath and start digging down and getting the timeline and getting people on the record about this. The only people that I see than can do this are members of Congress. The question is, do they have the will to do that?” Attkisson stated.

She goes on to make several other good points, including the fact that “the IRS is part of Healthcare.gov, if the IRS system can indeed be so vulnerable that some sort of crash can lose all kind of important data like this, what does t say about the federal system?”

MORE:

Glenn Reynolds: “I think it’s fair at this point to assume that the “missing” emails are missing because someone in the White House was behind this.”

Z-Street Donor Tells Tale Of IRS Harassment

A court decision handed down by an Obama appointed judge, Tuesday, will force the IRS to disclose the procedures it used to target the pro-Israel group, Z-Street, and may shed more light on how other conservative groups were unfairly scrutinized.

Z Street’s lawsuit was filed years before the IRS scandal hit the news and  before the conservative media understood how badly the agency had become weaponized under Obama.

Jonathan Tobin of Commentary reported:

On Tuesday, Federal Judge Ketanje Brown Jackson issued the first substantive ruling in any suit that challenged the IRS’s pose of political neutrality under the Obama administration. The case concerns Z Street, a Philadelphia area-based pro-Israel organization that filed for tax-exempt status in December 2009 because of its role in educating the public about Israel and the Middle East conflict. The group’s founder Lori Lowenthal Marcus wrote in the Jewish Press this week about what followed:

On July 19, 2010, when counsel for Z STREET spoke with the IRS agent to whom the organization’s application had been assigned, that agent said that a determination on Z STREET’s application may be further delayed because the IRS gave “special scrutiny” to organizations connected to Israel and especially to those whose views “contradict those of the administration’s.”

Z Street subsequently sued the government and rightly argued that its constitutional rights had been violated because of the “viewpoint discrimination” that the IRS agent had openly displayed. Now after years of delays, Judge Jackson has ruled that by asserting that Z Street had no right to sue, the government had tried to “transform a lawsuit that clearly challenges the constitutionality of the process … into a dispute over tax liability.” She similarly dismissed the government’s claims of sovereign immunity.

This ruling means the IRS will be forced to open their books on the procedures it used to review Z-Street’s tax exempt application and as the case proceeds, the entire picture involving other groups similarly targeted may become clearer.

The New English Review, which has been following this case, shared an “unsolicited anecdote” they received from an anonymous party who had contributed funds for Z Street’s lawsuit.

NER said  “it is indicative of how the IRS endeavors to abuse its authority to intimidate well meaning citizens who elect to support and defend free speech rights under the First Amendment.”

Here is the story:

In 2010, we contributed to this lawsuit that Z Street lodged against the US IRS being aware that forces under the radar were working to subvert free speech about many social-political issues within America.

So, subsequently and not surprisingly, we were harassed by the IRS even though our documentation was prepared by and reconfirmed by our accountant and financial institution. We contested the IRS’s findings and their response was to give us a court date to appear for a resolution.

Meanwhile, we didn’t hire legal counsel as many activists before us had done and gone bankrupt. Instead, we bet on the IRS’s bad press like the media’s exposure of similarly hassled conservative and pro-Israel groups would see this through for us.

Our wait seems to have paid off.

Before our court date, we received an afterhour’s call from a very pleasant and cheerful woman from the IRS, who said our case was a “misunderstanding” and papers would follow showing we owed a minor amount, instead of the colossal number they had levied on us!!! Over the next week or so, papers were sent and we responded. Nothing new in months, so we may be home free. Despite the experience, instead of silencing us, we are more driven to support and ensure free speech.!

So, best of luck for Z Street. We appreciate having our Constitution respected, honored, and upheld.

Changing it should take place within Congress, not within the IRS. This is what Z Street’s suit is about.

Washington attorney, Cleta Mitchell was recently on the Kelly File to discuss this newest  front In IRS Scandal: Nearly 1 in 10 conservative donors were audited by the IRS.

I noted that the list of conservatives targeted by the Internal Revenue Service for audits, excessive tax-exempt scrutiny, or tax privacy breaches included Tea party groups and their donors, the conservative Hollywood group, Friends of AbeFranklin Graham,Christine O’Donnell, a pro-marriage group,  Dr. Ben CarsonDr. Milton Wolf ,  (Obama’s Republican cousin who is running for Senate in KS), and ObamaCare critics Bill Elliot and C. Steven Tucker.

We can now add to that list, donors to Z Street’s legal fund.

As Cleta told Megyn Kelly,  “this is an area I’ve been increasingly concerned about in the last year since this scandal broke because people have contacted me from all over the country, talking about how they had never been audited before they donated to a conservative organization.”

Dismantling the Left’s Dishonest Obama-Defense Strategies

o scandals

Kudos to Kyle Becker of IJ Review for doing the fact-checking on the left’s ’13 Benghazis That Happened Under Bush’ Viral Meme.

Many of us have seen the narratives refuting “Benghazigate.”

“Where was the outrage about all those embassy attacks under Bush? What about all the people killed in those attacks? Where was Fox News then?”

Let’s put aside for now that this line of questioning has nothing at all to do with why people are concerned about what happened during and after the Benghazi terror attack.

All 13 false equivalencies are picked apart, here.

Of course there were attacks on US Embassies in terrorist hot spots throughout the world during the Bush era. We were fighting two hot wars as part of what used to be called – “the global war on terror.” But there were major differences between these attacks and Benghazi, including the fact that in most of the examples no Americans died, there were no requests for more security that were  ignored, and there was no active cover-up after the attack. They were not “just like Benghazi” at all.

Bush readily admitted that we were fighting a global war on terror. But Obama wanted the nation to think that he had decisively won the war after  Osama Bin Laden was assassinated. The war on terror was over. Now, we just had overseas contingencies and workplace violence and demonstrations over Youtube videos.

___

The left  uses dishonest defense strategies to protect Obama and they have used them time and time again to explain away his scandals. They mischaracterize past events to draw some sort of moral equivalency – which often involves blaming Bush.  It looks good on the surface, but falls apart upon close scrutiny. But it doesn’t matter how weak their false equivalency is, because the strategy is geared toward BDS-ridden O-bots who are inclined to agree with them and not do any independent fact-checking. They just want to be spoon-fed what to think, and the Alinskyites running the show right now, are happy to provide them with the nonsensical pablum they need to fulfill their preconceived notions about a world in which every enemy has an R after his name.

____

Perhaps the first time the left used this strategy to protect Obama came after Holder’s DOJ dropped the charges against the New Black Panthers in what one Justice Dept lawyer described as a slam dunk case –  the clearest case of voter intimidation he had ever seen..

The charges stemmed from an incident at a Philadelphia polling place on Election Day 2008 when three members of the party were accused of trying to threaten voters and block poll and campaign workers by the threat of force — one even brandishing what prosecutors call a deadly weapon.

The three black panthers, Minister King Samir Shabazz, Malik Zulu Shabazz and Jerry Jackson were charged in a civil complaint in the final days of the Bush administration with violating the voter rights act by using coercion, threats and intimidation. Shabazz allegedly held a nightstick or baton that prosecutors said he pointed at people and menacingly tapped it. Prosecutors also say he “supports racially motivated violence against non-blacks and Jews.”

The Obama administration won the case last month, but moved to dismiss the charges on May 15.

Believe it or not – the left tried to blame Bush for the decision – forcing conservative bloggers like Delroy Murdock to waste time slapping down their idiotic false narrative:

Olbermann, recently fired Washington Post analyst Dave Weigel, and The American Prospect’s Adam Serwer have all crowed that Bush’s Justice Department dropped a criminal case against the NBPP. In fact, there never was a criminal case to drop. The NBPP faced a civil lawsuit prepared by Justice’s Voting Rights unit. This is exactly what career prosecutors recommended in the first place.

With respect to all but one defendant, Justice abandoned its civil case under Obama, not Bush — no matter what Olbermann and his comrades would like to believe.

______

During the Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal, in which thousands of high powered guns were allowed to fall into the hands of criminal gun cartels, Democrats constantly tried to argue that the Obama administration’s Operation F & F,  was a continuation of  “Wide Receiver”, a failed gun-tracing operation that the ATF briefly tried under George W. Bush. Democrats often used the Wide Receiver narrative during Congressional hearings, and Jay Carney used it when questioned by reporters during press briefings.

They were lying.

Besides the fact that they were two separate operations,  Wide Receiver actually made an attempt to track the guns that were headed into Mexico – guns  were implanted with RFID chips and were tracked electronically. The ATF in Phoenix also implemented aerial surveillance tactics in an attempt to follow the weapons.

Obama’s ATF  took no such steps to track the walked guns other than recording the serial numbers before allowing them to cross the border into the hands of Mexican drug cartels.  ATF agents involved with Fast and Furious would later testify that they were ordered to stand down and not track the weapons even when interdiction was possible.  The objective was to get them into the hands of drug cartel bandits only to be interdicted after they had killed people – at which point, they were  traced back to the gun shops that sold the guns to straw purchasers (at the ATF’s behest.) It was not a “botched operation. It was totally effed up from the start.

The Bush administration also worked in cooperation with the Mexican government. When about 200 guns were lost track of – the operation was terminated in 2007.

Mexican authorities were kept in the dark over Fast and Furious and were outraged when the details about the criminally insane operation were revealed. The operation started in the Fall of 2009 and not terminated until Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was murdered with one of the Fast and Furious Guns in December of 2010.

A good question for Eric Holder would be why would the DOJ resurrect a program like Wide Receiver after it failed  –  but he would tell you he had no idea about it or Operation Fast and Furious.  He testified that he didn’t even know about Fast and Furious until well after Brian Terry’s death in Dec. 2010.  Any emails that might say otherwise have been protected by Executive Privilege.

There are still liberal drones out there who will knowingly tell you that Fast and Furious is a GW Bush scandal because it was a continuation of a Bush era gun-walking operation.

____

Remember Solyndra? The solar company that went belly-up after the Obama administration awarded them with an ill-advised half a billion dollars  loan? That was Bush’s fault, too, you know.

After spending months touting the Obama administration’s decision to loan $535 million to the California solar energy upstart Solyndra, top officials took a new tack Wednesday while testifying before Congress about the company’s abrupt shut-down and bankruptcy: the loan, they said, was actually the Bush administration’s idea. The Energy Department’s top lending officer told Congress that the Solyndra loan application was not only filed during President Bush’s term, but it surged towards completion before Obama took office in January 2009.

“By the time the Obama administration took office in late January 2009, the loan programs’ staff had already established a goal of, and timeline for, issuing the company a conditional loan guarantee commitment in March 2009,” said Jonathan Silver, who heads the Energy loan program.

It was a key part of the Democrats’ pushback over the Solyndra scandal. Dems argued that the loan guarantees made to the solar panel company were just as much the doing of the George W. Bush administration as they were of the Obama administration.

This argument has been pushed repeatedly by the Democrats on the Energy and Commerce committee, by liberal groups like Media Matters and even by the Energy Department itself, which has been emailing reporters regular press releases spinning the scandal.

For example, Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., ranking Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce investigation subcommittee, asked Friday, “Whether the Bush and Obama administration conducted due diligence on the loan guarantee.”

But the facts don’t justify this claim. The bottom line remains that the Bush Administration did not approve the Solyndra loan guarantee. And just before they headed out of town, Bush officials ordered the project back to the drawing board.

Democrats argue the Energy Department first received the loan request in December 2006. By January 2009, it was still under consideration. That month, the department’s Loan Guarantee Credit Committee put the project on hold.

IBD concluded, “there were two administrations involved in this project. One, after more than two years of consideration, was still sending it back for further review. That was the Bush administration. The second was placing “intense pressure” on department staff to approve loans from the moment it walked in the door and even had the energy secretary himself personally reviewing each loan. That was the Obama administration.”

It would be like a Republican administration coming into office after Obama, immediately approving the Keystone Pipeline, and when something horrible goes wrong – trying to share the blame with Obama because he’s the one who  “established the goal” of approving the pipeline.

___

The IRS Scandal: One  defense strategy the left has employed to defend the Obama Regime  is the laughable “Progressive groups were targeted too!” false narrative. I’ve actually seen them try to argue that progressive groups were targeted even more than conservative groups. I mean if you’re going to lie – go big, right?

NO progressive groups were unfairly targeted by IRS

This would already seem obvious given the fact that absolutely no progressive groups have come forward with horror stories about the abuse they supposedly endured as a result of being targeted and unfairly scrutinized. Congressional Democrats had every opportunity to let this alleged multitude of “progressive IRS victims” testify before various committees during several hearings that have been held on Capitol Hill on the scandal. Not-so-shockingly, no progressive victims have been identified and none ever testified..  Because they don’t exist.

There are still liberal drones who spread that particular brazen lie in the comment sections of our nation’s newspapers.

_____

Be on the look-out for this particular defense strategy. Now that we see the pattern, it should be obvious when we see them employing it.

The VA scandal is in its infancy, but I fully expect the left to blame the scandal on Bush era policies that Obama is heroically fixing. If they haven’t done that already.

Friday Free-For-All: Don’t Tread On My ObamaCare?

Screen-Shot-2014-03-21-at-81416-AMpngYou gotta be kidding me.

Twitchy: ‘Oh the irony’: Pelosi daughter shares Obamacare sticker that would make Gadsden gag [pic]:

Unbelievably shameless.

Joel Pollack, the Conversation: Democrats Steal Tea Party Symbol to Promote Obamacare:

Matt Welch of Reason.com has a nice roundup of past Democrat statements about the Gadsden flag. The irony is compounded by the fact that the Gadsden became popular at Tea Party rallies in 2009-10 partly because Obamacare is so damaging to liberty.

Me, the Conversation: ‘Don’t Tread On My ObamaCare?’ Tell That to the 5-6 Million Americans Who Already Lost Theirs:

“Don’t tread on my government-controlled healthcare?” Seriously? Do these fools not know more government control over our lives  = less independence and freedom? To be a Democrat in 2014 means to wake up every day in Opposite Land.

I know of  5-6 million Americans who would love to adopt the “don’t tread on my health care” motto, but unfortunately, it’s too late for them. Thanks to ObamaCare, their old health care plans have the government’s tread marks all over them.

What a sick, profoundly unfunny joke.

The left’s Koch brothers obsession, however, continues to be an unintentionally hilarious joke:

The Hayride: VIDEO: Vitter To Lefty Moonbat Heckler – ‘God Bless The Koch Brothers’:

This is almost too good to be real, but it is.

At a town hall on Tuesday in Broussard, Vitter was accosted by a left-wing questioner who harangued him over the influence of lobbyists, and quickly regurgitated the typical left-wing hate for Charles and David Koch, the owners of Wichita, Kansas-based Koch Industries. The Koch brothers, or most specifically their company Koch Industries, rank as the No. 45 political contributor in the current political cycle, despite the breathless hype on the left making them out to be right-wing kingmakers.

In fact, Koch Industries isn’t even in the top five of corporate contributors to primarily Republican candidates in this cycle.

Caleb Howe, the Right Scoop: Brad Woodhouse TOTALLY BUSTS David Vitter In Tawdry Love Affair:

DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse is outraged, OUTRAGED I SAY. He has proven that Harry Reid is right about everything. For the smoking gun has at last been revealed. Sen. David Vitter says God Bless the Koch brothers.

You know, I used to think I was a Republican. I too drank the conservative Flavor Aid. But then I saw this video and IT CHANGED EVERYTHING. Now I realize that Democrats like Brad have been right all along. People like George Soros the Koch Brothers are ruining everything. I mean, obviously. They support conservative causes with money and everything!! They’re as bad as the Unions Hollywood Al Gore Tom Steyer the Unions Tim Gill Time-Warner China also the Unions Satan … um … Santa Claus?! Totally.

At least Louisianans now know that their Senator is pro Oil and Gas. Goodness knows the voters there HATE those industries!

AoSHQ:  Shockingly, Left-Wing Report Makes It Into Washington Post With Little Fact-Checking, and Rife With Errors:

@johnekdahl sends this along, noting that it’s one of my pet peeves. While, for example, that Pennsylvania AG case will be ignored by the national press (as the Gosnell case was ignored as a “local crime story”), all the left has to do is get one of its many house organs to type up a largely false and misleading report, send it over to one of the country’s allegedly “mainstream” media outfits, and wait for its claims to be endlessly retransmitted throughout the country.

Powerline notes that a left-wing organization wrote up a report claiming that the Koch Brothers stood to benefit greatly from their operation of tar-sands operations in Alberta.

There are numerous problems with the claims made. The report claims, falsely, that the Koch Brothers are the largest leaseholders of Canada’s tar sands. That’s simply false. Apparently the article compares their holdings to Exxon and Conoco and Chevron but fails to check for other leaseholders — other companies own more.

They then assume that companies with the most acreage of leaseholds must be producing the most oil — which is false. The Koch Brothers’ holdings are in fact largely non-productive. Despite their acreage of leaseholds, they’re a “negligible” producer as far as actual extraction of oil.

Washington Free Beacon: WaPo Defends Decision to Report on Anti-Koch Allegations It Admits Are Baseless:

In defending its initial story, the Post noted that it explained why IFG’s allegations were baseless, but still opted to relay those allegations to its readers.

[W]e make clear that many of Koch’s leases pre-date the pipeline plan, that Koch has not bid for space in the pipeline, and that Koch would not be a customer. Third, if Koch’s lease holdings are 1.1 million acres, that would make it one of the region’s largest, rivaled only by Shell (1 million net acres through an Athabasca joint venture and perhaps 1.3 million net acres altogether), Cenovus Energy (1.5 million net acres), and perhaps Canadian Natural Resources (717,000 net undeveloped acres plus an undetermined number of developed acres). Shell declined to release its total acreage figures. If Koch’s lease holdings are “closer to two million,” as has been said by industry sources we consider highly authoritative, then Koch is indeed the largest lease holder in the province.

IFG itself has backed away from the 2 million acre figure, opting in its most recent report to go with 1.1 million.

The Post’s initial story continues to claim, without qualification, that Koch is “the biggest lease owner in Canada’s oil sands.”

According to TransCanada spokesman Shawn Howard, the company “continue[s] to be puzzled” by efforts to tie Koch to the Keystone pipeline.

Oh come now. We’re talking about Democrats, here – there’s no need to be puzzled. Without lies – they’ve got nothing.

The People’s Cube: Obamacare Art Appreciation Lesson #1: What’s Art?

Obamacare_Poster_Artist_Quit_Job2

“We see it as an entrepreneurial bill,” Pelosi said in May 2010. “A bill that says to someone, if you want to be creative and be a musician or whatever, you can leave your work, focus on your talent, your skill, your passion, your aspirations because you will have health care.”

Last year, while marking the second anniversary of the health care law, Pelosi used a similar line, saying Obamacare allows you to quit your job and become “whatever.”

We made the above visual aid for a new government program helping workers who have lost their jobs due to Obamacare, in their transitioning from shovels to paintbrushes.

Weasel Zippers: Reid Asks For Computer Examination In CIA-Senate Spying Dispute:

two faced-feinstein

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has instructed the Senate’s chief law enforcement officer to examine the Intelligence Committee’s computers amid an escalating fight between the CIA and lawmakers over access to secret documents about the agency’s interrogation tactics during the Bush administration.

In a letter dated Wednesday to CIA Director John Brennan, Reid challenged the spy agency head’s complaints that committee staff improperly accessed the agency’s computers to obtain the documents, calling the allegation “patently absurd.”

Last week, the head of the committee, Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, questioned whether the agency broke the law and violated the Constitution in searching a computer network exclusively established for the committee.

Brennan has dismissed Feinstein’s complaints.

Reason: “Go Fruve Yourself!”; Sad-Sack Govt Attempt at Nutritional Advice Just May Start Revolution:

The USDA has given $5 million in your tax dollars to a University of Tennessee campaign that tells kids to “Get Fruved.” Part of that grant is on display above in a 30-second that implores an unsuspecting college student (who I really hope is calling out a campus SWAT team) to “get fruved – grape style!” Where are ultra-restrictive campus speech zones when you need them?

Fruved is a portmanteau of fruits and vegetables and the campaign – like so many of these things – around awful videos and activites (such as “Join Team Banana“).

The Conversation: Reporter Suggests Press Sec Gets Questions From Press In Advance – Carney, WH Reporters Deny:

Video here.

Carney denied the story, telling a reporter on Twitter, “briefings would be a lot easier if this were true! Rest assured, it is not.”

Reporters Jonathan Karl (ABC) and Ed Henry (Fox) also denied the claim.  Henry on Twitter said that the story is “dead wrong.”

When I asked Karl if the story was true, his response, was “uh, no.” He suggested that the CBS reporter was referring to the questions Carney’s staff supplies him in anticipation for what will be asked.

White House Dossier: AZ Reporter Retracts Carney-Press Collusion Charge:

Yesterday, I noted in reporting this that she seemed like a lousy journalist and her charges were suspect, and that it was not possible that all – as she said – or even most reporters provide their questions in advance.

But I didn’t rule out that some might do this, and I still don’t.

To start with, I can tell you one thing that surely happened yesterday. The full, expletive-filled wrath of the White House press operation came down on Anaya and her bosses to make them change their story. We’re used to this garbage in Washington, but I’m sure they’re not.

And, assuming she is not prone to hallucinating and didn’t bring her lithium with her to Washington, her new explanation also sounds suspect, since she was very specific about her charge Thursday:

(Carney) also mentioned that a lot of times, unless it’s something breaking, the questions that the reporters actually ask — the correspondents — they are provided to him in advance. So then he knows what he’s going to be answering and sometimes those correspondents and reporters also have those answers printed in front of them, because of course it helps when they’re producing their reports for later on. So that was very interesting.

So it’s also not clear to me that Carney didn’t say something along these lines, even if it was misinterpreted.

Gabriel Malor at Hot Air: Pennsylvania Attorney General Kane lawyers up:

The decision of Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane to drop the investigation and potential prosecution of Philadelphia Democrats who were recorded accepting cash, money orders, or jewelry certainly seems suspicious. According to news reports, investigators collected over 400 hours of audio and video of five Democrats, including four state lawmakers, before Kane, also a Democrat, secretly killed the investigation last fall. When confronted with this troubling story by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Kane cited racism and mismanagement in the investigation, but the detailed descriptions of the recordings certainly seem to indicate that the payments were made.

Kane’s reaction to reports about her decision went from bad to worse. At first, she complained that white men were attacking her:

In the statement, Kane provided only one quote, dismissing those who questioned her decisions as “nothing more than the Good Ol’ Boys club playing political games to discredit me in order to fulfill their own selfish and improper agenda.”

The statement cited Kane’s pursuit of political-corruption cases, including the pay-to-play scandal involving Democrats tied to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and the corruption charges brought last week against Democratic State Sen. LeAnna Washington.

The Daily Caller: Obamacare architect: Law will cause ‘the end of employer-sponsored insurance’

No way….

Obamacare architect Zeke Emanuel claims in his new book that the health care reform law will result in “the end of employer-sponsored insurance.”

Despite President Barack Obama’s claim that “if you like your plan, you can keep it” — a talking point developed in his first 100 days in office by a tiny but influential left-wing messaging group called the Herndon Alliance — his administration has long planned to disassemble the current U.S. insurance industry as well as alter health care reform.

James Delingpole, Breitbart London: American Physical: First Major Scientific Institution to Reject Global Warming ‘Consensus’?

The American Physical Society (APS) has signalled a dramatic turnabout in its position on “climate change” by appointing three notorious climate skeptics to its panel on public affairs (POPA).

They are:

Professor Richard Lindzen, formerly Alfred P Sloan Professor of Meteorology at Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a highly regarded physicist who once described climate change alarmism on The Larry King Show as “mainly just like little kids locking themselves in dark closets to see how much they can scare each other and themselves.”

John Christy, Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, who has written: “I’m sure the majority (but not all) of my IPCC colleagues cringe when I say this, but I see neither the developing catastrophe nor the smoking gun proving that human activity is to blame for most of the warming we see.”

Judith Curry, Chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech, a former Warmist (and still a self-described “luke warmer”) who has infuriated many of her more extremist colleagues by defending skeptics and by testifying to the US House Subcommittee on the Environment that the uncertainties in forecasting climate science are much greater than the alarmists will admit.

As Anthony Watts has noted, this is news guaranteed to make a Warmist’s head explode.

Cruz: “Those Who Lionize Convicted Cop Killers are Not Suitable for Major Leadership Roles at the DOJ” (Video)

Tomorrow, Obama’s race-baiting pick to head the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Dept, will get his up or down confirmation vote in the Senate. Obama had to search long and hard to find someone even more radical than now Labor Sec Thomas Perez, but by Gosh – he did it with cop killer advocate,  Debo Adegbile.

The FBI Agents Association, National Fraternal Order of Police, Major County Sheriff’s Association, National Association of Police Organizations, National Sheriff’s Assoc, and the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association have all come out in public opposition to the nomination of Adegbile. But most Democrats will vote in lock step to confirm him tomorrow because that’s how Democrats roll. Vulnerable Democrats running for reelection in red states may think twice, however. Not because it would be the right thing to do, but to save their own hides.

Paul Mirengoff of Powerline reports:

Unless half a dozen or so Democrats vote no, the race hustler will be confirmed.

Pennsylvania Democrat Bob Casey has said he will vote no. Philadelphia, of course, was the scene of Mumia’s crime and of the disgraceful “free Mumia” movement. It is telling, therefore, that Pennsylvania’s Democratic Senator can’t swallow Adegbile’s confirmation.

Will other Democrats join Casey? Not unless, like Casey, they perceive that doing so will enhance their electoral prospects. Time and time again we’ve seen that the Democratic Senate majority marches in lock-step except where the electoral imperative dictates otherwise. Conscience and considerations of basic decency are never factors.

Fortunately, as Roll Call observes, “several Democrats up for re-election in swing or conservative states might think twice about wading into the hornets’ nest that surrounds Abu-Jamal.” Roll Call cites Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Mark Begich of Alaska, Mark Warner of Virginia, and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire. Perhaps Mark Udall of Colorado should also be included, especially now

that he is likely to face strong opposition in November.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, registered his opposition to the nomination on the Senate floor today while honoring the brave service of America’s fallen police officers.

“It is out of respect for our nation’s police officers that I rise to oppose the nomination of Debo Adegbile to be the head of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division,” Sen. Cruz said. “We must remember our nation’s fallen police officers who have bravely given their lives to serve our nation and to protect us. They form the backbone of our country that supports the rule of law and they risk their lives every day to keep law-abiding Americans safe.”

In his remarks, the Senator noted that although every criminal defendant is entitled to an attorney, Adegbile’s representation of Mumia Abu-Jamal, a man convicted of murdering Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner in 1981, was pure political advocacy. Abu-Jamal’s guilt was not in doubt – four eyewitnesses saw the shooting and Abu-Jamal confessed and stated in front of three witnesses that he hoped that Officer Faulkner died. And although Abu-Jamal already had a team of high-priced volunteer lawyers that had filed dozens of petitions and appeals, Adegbile and his team joined the case in 2009, 27 years after Faulkner’s death, and then began politicizing it. Under Adegbile’s supervision, rallies, protests, and media campaigns instead dishonestly portrayed Abu-Jamal as a political prisoner and victim of racial injustice.

“This is not a matter of left wing or right wing politics,” Sen. Cruz continued. “We all should agree that violent criminals should be punished. We should all agree that those who advocate for, celebrate, lionize convicted cop killers are not suitable for major leadership roles at the United States Department of Justice. I urge every member of this body to oppose this nomination.”

In addition to his voluntary defense of a convicted cop-killer, Adegbile has a record of opposing common-sense voter ID laws, attacking religious liberties, advocating federal interference in religious institutions, and opposing Americans’ constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

I agree with Paul Mirengoff that with Dingy’s blessing, some of the vulnerable Dems will join Casey in opposition, leaving Reid with just enough votes to confirm Obama’s race-baiting selection to head the Civil Rights Division.”

Groups Targeted By IRS Saying They Are Finally Hearing From FBI:

Local 12: New IRS Commissioner Visits Cincinati Office to Boost Morale:

Published on Jan 9, 2014
CINCINNATI (Joe Webb) — This was Koskinen’s first place to visit and it makes sense. The Cincinnati office is in the middle of Senate, House and FBI investigations into claims they targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax exempt status. It’s a tough place to work under the best conditions. 2013 in Cincinnati was not the best conditions. I’m here first because I think Cincinnati employees have been through a difficult 8-12 months. That 8-12 months has seen Koskinen’s predecessor fired, legislative and criminal investigations launched and the rhetoric cranked up against a government agency Americans view, at best, as a necessary evil. Jack Painter says his Ohio Liberty Coalition was singled out when it applied for tax exempt status three years ago. The IRS shouldn’t be involved in harassing the President’s political opponents. As far as I’m concerned that’s un-American and should never happen again. That was part of Koskinen’s message Thursday. Restoring integrity and confidence. It is job one. I think it’s critical for the American public, for the taxpaying public to feel that they’re going to be treated fairly and equally when they file their taxes and deal with the IRS no matter who they are, where they live, what organization they belong to, whatever their political affiliation is and whatever church they go to. Koskinen promised Thursday consistent, fair and a-political evaluation of all tax-exempt applications. Painter says that even if that is so, recently adopted IRS regulations still tilt the playing field against tea party groups. Koskinen says, on his watch, the IRS won’t play politics. My goal is for the IRS to be viewed at the end of my tenure and my term as totally apolitical. An organization in which people can have confidence and trust. The commissioner is in Cincinnati for just one day. From here he goes to Philadelphia. It’s something of a fence-mending trip to talk to employees and try to restore confidence in the IRS. That’s a tough job because the IRS is one government agency people just love to hate. Koskinen met with workers in Cincinnati Thursday morning and went to Covington in the afternoon. There are more than 4,000 IRS employees in the tri-state.

WSJ: Christie and the IRS – Contrast the Governor’s contrition with Obama’s lack thereof…

One of Mr. Christie’s selling points for the White House will be that he is an executive who has run a sizable state, so the media will descend on Trenton even more than it did on Wasilla, Alaska, for Sarah Palin. Better to clean out the hack loyalists now.

Which brings us to the Obama Administration, which quickly leaked to the media that the U.S. Attorney is investigating the lane closures as a criminal matter. Well, that sure was fast, and nice of Eric Holder‘s Justice Department to show its typical discretion when investigating political opponents.

This is the same Administration that won’t tell Congress what resources it is devoting to the IRS probe, and appears to be slow-rolling it. It has also doubled down by expanding the political vetting of 501(c)(4) groups seeking tax-exempt status. Lois Lerner, who ran the IRS tax-exempt shop and took the Fifth before Congress, was allowed to “retire,” presumably with a pension. Acting IRS commissioner Steven Miller resigned under pressure but no other heads have rolled. Yet compared to using the IRS against political opponents during an election campaign, closing traffic lanes for four days is jaywalking.

We raise this mostly because our media friends have been complicit in dismissing the IRS abuses, and for that matter every other legal abuse during the Obama years. The exception is the Edward Snowden theft of National Security Agency documents, which so far have exposed not a single example of law-breaking.

PA Rep and Police Union President Voice Profound Opposition to Obama’s Radical DOJ Nomination (Video)

dscf0029qa5

Up is down, down is up, wrong is right, right is wrong. Only in Obama’s America would the DOJ persecute the Little Sisters of the poor – but appoint a cop killer’s attorney to top civil rights position. Up with the defenders of  killers…down with the defenders of life.

Adegbilem spent the last decade engaging in extreme racial politics as the Legal Defense and Education Fund of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

He is an opponent of criminal-background checks by employers, and a supporter of extreme racial-hiring quotas. But it’s his work trying to free the unrepentant cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, that has the hundreds of thousands of law enforcement officers represented by the National Fraternal Order of Police appalled that the president would appoint him to a top spot in the Justice Department.

Chuck Canterbury, President of the National Fraternal Order Of Police sent a hard hitting letter to the president, expressing “extreme disappointment, displeasure and vehement opposition” to Adegbile’s nomination.”

In another scathing letter to the President, PA Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick wrote, “Respectfully,  I could not be more incensed and confounded by the nomination of Mr. Debo Adegbile as the next Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice,” Fitzpatrick opened the letter. “Under Mr. Adegbile’s leadership, non-profit attorneys were recruited to defend convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. Jamal’s cold-blooded murder of Officer Faulkner is not in doubt. The efforts of those attorneys perverted the justice system and have made a mockery of the jury’s verdict and the court’s sentence.”

“A shameless ‘cottage industry’ of money and promotion has arisen from Jamal’s heinous act which continues to torture Officer Faulkner’s widow and family,” continued Fitzpatrick. “This nomination is a direct affront to the thousands of law enforcement officials who serve in harm’s way to protect our families, and the communities who rely on their service and sacrifice.”

Last night, Megyn Kelly had on both men to talk about Obama’s nomination of the radical attorney, Debo Adegbilem to be the nation’s top civil rights lawyer.

Kelly asked Fitzpatrick what it said about the nominee that he would involve himself in the case of unrepentant cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal.

Fitzpatrick said, “his attorney’s, at the conclusion (of his trial overturning the death sentence) attended a rally in the city of Philedelphia and said they could not have been prouder than  to have the opportunity – not to represent justice, not to fight for the constitution, but to represent Mumia Jamal.  And the fact that they chose to insert themselves in this 33 year old case, pretty much tells you everything you need to know about this nominee and about the administration’s committment to constitutional and civil rights of victims and of police officers.”

PhillyMag.com asked, Was Obama Wrong to Nominate Mumia Lawyer Debo Adegbile to DOJ?

Of course, lawyers represent bad people all the time, right? Canterbury addresses that point as well:

We are aware of the tried and true shield behind which activists of Adegbile’s ilk are wont to hide–that everyone is entitled to a defense; but surely you would agree that a defense should not be based on falsely disparaging and savaging the good name and reputation of a lifeless police officer.

Certainly any legal scholar can see the injustice and absence of ethics in this cynical race-baiting approach to our legal system.

Meanwhile, Maureen Faulkner, the widow of the police officer whom Abu-Jamal was convicted of gunning down, went on Fox News to express her disgust at the nomination:

In Adegbile’s corner, there are 75 organizations that have signed on to a letter to the United States Senate, urging the senators to confirm the nomination. Those organizations include everyone from the AFL-CIO to the National Center for Transgender Equality to the National Bar Association.

The poll shows 75% of respondents agreeing with the Republicans, the Police Union and Faulkner’s widow.

22% agree with Obama and the transgender community, AFL-CIO and Bar Assoc that it ain’t no big deal –  lawyers represent bad people all the time. Another 3% say Adegbile should be given a medal because Mumia’s innocent.

Slain Officer’s Widow: Obama’s Nomination of Cop-Killer Mumia’s Attorney “Like Spitting On All Our Officers”

Obama has sppointed some shockingly inept and/or radical individuals to positions of power, these past five years, but his pick be the nation’s top civil rights lawyer is his worst appointment, yet.

Adegbilem spent the last decade serving as the Legal Defense and Education Fund of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

He is a staunch affirmative action supporter who is an opponent of criminal-background checks by employers, and a supporter of extreme racial-hiring quotas. But it’s his work trying to free the unrepentant cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, that has the hundreds of thousands of law enforcement officers represented by the National Fraternal Order of Police appalled that the president would appoint him to a top spot in the Justice Department.

Yesterday, they sent  a hard-hitting letter to Obama,  expressing “extreme disappointment, displeasure and vehement opposition” to Adegbile’s nomination.

 Judicial Watch reported:

In a hard-hitting letter to President Obama, the group expresses “extreme disappointment, displeasure and vehement opposition” to Adegbile’s nomination. “As word of this nomination spreads through the law enforcement community, reactions range from anger to incredulity,” the letter says, reminding that there is no disputing that Officer Faulkner was murdered by the “thug” who Adegbile continues defending.

“This nomination can be interpreted in only one way: it is a thumb in the eye of our nation’s law enforcement officers,” the letter continues. “It demonstrates a total lack of regard or empathy for those who strive to keep you and everyone else in our nation safe in your homes and neighborhoods—sometimes giving their lives in the effort.” Adegbile will certainly exacerbate the growing division and distrust between law enforcement and minority communities, the FOP claims. The group ends by telling the commander-in-chief of its hope that candidates with records of “fairness and respect to all Americans” are considered for future leadership positions in the administration.

Fox New’s Megyn Kelly had on Maureen Faulker (Wife of slain police officer killed in line of duty) and J. Christian Adams (Former Department of Justice Official) to get their reactions.

Adams said that “to defend a cop killer –  by choice – should disqualify you from a position at the Justice Department”, and then he went on to discuss Adegbilem’s  radical racial background.

Faulkner was positively seething. At the end of the segment, she said that Obama nominating such a person to a top position at the Justice Department “is like spitting on all our officers and our federal agents throughout America.”

Kelly ended the segment by noting that the police have vowed to fight this nomination until can be fought no longer.

The NAACP LDF under Adegbile’s leadership, offered legal representation to Mumia Abu-Jamal, the murderer of Philadelphia police officer Danny Faulkner in several legal proceedings.

Born Wesley Cook, the former Black Panther often referred to affectionately in radical circles as simply “Mumia,” enjoys celebrity status on the Left and is a frequent guest speaker at college commencement ceremonies.

“The question of Abu-Jamal’s guilt is not a close call,” according to John Fund. “Two hospital workers testified that Abu-Jamal confessed to them: ‘I shot the motherf***er, and I hope the motherf***er dies.’ His brother, William, has never testified to his brother’s innocence even though he was at the scene of the crime. Abu-Jamal himself chose not to testify in his own defense.”

As Faulkner tried to arrest Abu-Jamal’s brother during a traffic stop, Abu-Jamal shot the policeman once in the back and then stood over him and shot him four more times at close range, once directly in the face. Multiple eyewitnesses were present during the crime.

Monday Morning Catch-Up: ObamaCare Losers

ndcatchup-tradicional-g

The AP continues to hammer the Regime: STICKER SHOCK OFTEN FOLLOWS INSURANCE CANCELLATION:

- Dean Griffin liked the health insurance he purchased for himself and his wife three years ago and thought he’d be able to keep the plan even after the federal Affordable Care Act took effect.

But the 64-year-old recently received a letter notifying him the plan was being canceled because it didn’t cover certain benefits required under the law.

The Griffins, who live near Philadelphia on the Delaware border, pay $770 monthly for their soon-to-be-terminated health care plan with a $2,500 deductible. The cheapest plan they found on their state insurance exchange was a so-called bronze plan charging a $1,275 monthly premium with deductibles totaling $12,700. It covers only providers in Pennsylvania, so the couple wouldn’t be able to see the doctors in Delaware whom they’ve used for more than a decade.

Gateway Pundit: Stage-4 Cancer Victim: I’m an Obamacare Loser:

Edie Littlefield Sunby shared this heart-breaking story today at the Wall Street Journal. Thanks to Obamacare Edie will lose her healthcare and her doctors.
Thank you, Democrats.
The Wall Street Journal reported:

Everyone now is clamoring about Affordable Care Act winners and losers. I am one of the losers.

My grievance is not political; all my energies are directed to enjoying life and staying alive, and I have no time for politics. For almost seven years I have fought and survived stage-4 gallbladder cancer, with a five-year survival rate of less than 2% after diagnosis. I am a determined fighter and extremely lucky. But this luck may have just run out: My affordable, lifesaving medical insurance policy has been canceled effective Dec. 31.

My choice is to get coverage through the government health exchange and lose access to my cancer doctors, or pay much more for insurance outside the exchange (the quotes average 40% to 50% more) for the privilege of starting over with an unfamiliar insurance company and impaired benefits.

Elizabeth Sheld, The Conversation: Report: At Least 3.5 Million People Have Received Health Insurance Cancellation Notices:

At least 3.5 million Americans have received notice that thier health insurance policies have been cancelled. Associated Press reported the finding, and caveated the number by adding that data is unavailable in half the states.

The administration is claiming that these people aren’t “cancelled” but rather ” ‘transitioned’ or ‘migrated’ to better plans because their current coverage doesn’t meet minimum standards.”  There was no word if these people with cancelled policies were unhappy with their existing health insurance situation.

John Boehner: #Trainwreck: “Sticker Shock” For Americans “Bracing to Pay More” Under ObamaCare:

“Everyone now is clamoring about Affordable Care Act winners and losers. I am one of the losers.” (Wall Street Journal)

“Americans who face higher insurance costs under President Obama’s health-care law are angrily complaining about ‘sticker shock’…” (Washington Post)

“One of the fundamental flaws of the Affordable Care Act is that, despite its name, it makes health insurance more expensive. … In the average state, Obamacare will increase underlying premiums by 41 percent.” (Forbes)

“Hundreds of thousands of Californians who purchase their own health insurance are bracing to pay more for their plans, as the cost of the federal health care overhaul lands harder on middle-class customers.” (Sacramento Bee)

“…she could end up paying at least $5,000 more a year than she does now. ‘That’s just not fair,’ said Persico, who represents indigent criminal defendants. ‘This is ridiculous.’” (Washington Post)

“Small businesses: Costs up for care coverage” (Lancaster Eagle Gazette)

“Expert: At least 129 million will ‘not be able to keep’ health care plan if Obamacare fully implemented” (Daily Caller)

Meanwhile the left is working feverishly (and pathetically)  to “debunk” Obamacare horror stories basically trying to convince the drones that what is happening to millions of Americans in order to subsidize their plans –  isn’t.

Matt Walsh: The positive side of Obamacare that Fox News doesn’t want you to see:

I’ve written about Obamacare a few times. Selfishly, shortsightedly — like the partisan propagandist that I am — all I’ve done is concentrate on the NEGATIVE stories and the BAD things about Obamacare. Duped, I suppose, by Fox News and the Koch Brothers, I only thought about the millions of people who are facing skyrocketing premiums, canceled insurance plans, and loss of employment as a direct result of Obama’s health care legislation. I even went so far as to give these people a platform to tell their stories (The Definitive Guide to How Obamacare is Destroying American Lives).

Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people emailed to tell me how they are suffering because of Obamacare. But, as many liberals have reminded me, these folks were all lying. Or they’re mistaken. They’re reading letters from their insurance companies that say things like, “we’re canceling your plan because it doesn’t fit ACA regulations” — but they’re mistaken. Just because their insurance company is explicitly informing them that they are losing their coverage because of Obamacare, that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily losing their coverage because of Obamacare. They could be misinterpreting. Or they’re delusional. Something. They must be something. Anything. Anything to explain why it appears that Obama lied. Anything other than pondering the possibility that it looks like he lied because he did, in fact, lie.

Oh! I know. I know what’s going on here: these people are agents under the employ of Sean Hannity, sent to make up stories about how their children are now uninsured due to a law that was sold as a means to make sure no child would go uninsured. They’re usurpers. Spies. Traitors. GUARDS, SEIZE THEM!

I see it now. Thank you for showing me the light, dear left wingers. I apologize. How could I have been pulled in by these fraudsters? Besides, even if their stories ARE true, what about the POSITIVE impact of Obamacare? Many folks have reached out, not with positive stories themselves per se, but insisting that there MUST be positive stories out there somewhere.

They’re right. I mean, sure, millions of Americans are being put in a bind because of this thing, but their misfortune has proven profitable for a small number of citizens and a large number of insurance executives. When will THEY get THEIR day in the Sun? When will SOMEONE talk about the GOOD things Obamacare is doing? It’s like when there’s a hurricane or a tornado or something. All of a sudden everyone is going on and on about the “victims” of the “catastrophe,” yet nobody ever discusses the GOOD aspects of natural disasters. Sure, families are driven out of their homes, but think about the positive side of that. Think about how well it works out for squatters and looters. If the news wanted to be balanced and fair, they’d report on the carnage this way: “Here we have the Smith family. Their home was rendered unlivable by the storm. But over HERE we’ve got a man named Jake. The mandatory evacuation gave him the perfect opportunity to steal the Smith’s TV. While some are kind of bummed in the aftermath of the hurricane, guys like Jake are really pretty pumped about the whole thing.”

See? That’s called “showing both sides of the story.”

So, you got your hours cut, your plan canceled, and the cost of life saving medication for your diabetic son suddenly skyrocketed? And you’re complaining about this? You unbelievable narcissist! Did you ever consider how your pain and suffering could be really helpful to some strangers across town?

I’ve had enough of this biased nonsense. It’s time that SOMEONE (besides the President of the United States, dozens of government agencies, Democrats, ABC, NBC, CBC, CNN, MSNBC, and Hollywood) put a spotlight on the benefits of Obamacare. To atone for my past malfeasance, I’ll get the ball rolling.

Here are The Three Best Things About Obamacare:

One man identified the phony ObamaCare horror stories a month before they started occurring.

Ace of Spades HQ: Paul Krugman, on September 8th: The “Wonk Gap” — the Difference Between Liberal Intellect and Conservative Stupidity — Blinds the GOP from Realizing There Will Be No “Sticker Shock” At All

On Saturday, Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming delivered the weekly Republican address. He ignored Syria, presumably because his party is deeply conflicted on the issue. (For the record, so am I.) Instead, he demanded repeal of the Affordable Care Act. “The health care law,” he declared, “has proven to be unpopular, unworkable and unaffordable,” and he predicted “sticker shock” in the months ahead.

What an idiot, huh?

So, another week, another denunciation of Obamacare. Who cares? But Mr. Barrasso’s remarks were actually interesting, although not in the way he intended. You see, all the recent news on health costs has been good. So Mr. Barrasso is predicting sticker shock precisely when serious fears of such a shock are fading fast. Why would he do that?

Well, one likely answer is that he hasn’t heard any of the good news. Think about it: Who would tell him?

My guess, in other words, was that Mr. Barrasso was inadvertently illustrating the widening “wonk gap” — the G.O.P.’s near-complete lack of expertise on anything substantive.

Moe Lane: The Hill: @BarackObama’s administration is as transparent as lead*

Just how bad is the Obama administration’s Cone of Silence? It’s not so much about this

A slew of media organizations have petitioned the government to release ObamaCare data that the White House has refused to make public.

CNN, ABC, MSNBC and others have filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) seeking information on the beleaguered healthcare.gov website. They have also asked for government documents revealing how many people have enrolled in the new healthcare exchanges.

USA Today: Navy secrets bought with prostitutes, bribes:

The gregarious Malaysian businessman nicknamed “Fat Leonard” is well known by U.S. Navy commanders in the Pacific. But prosecutors in court papers say Leonard Francis worked his connections to obtain military secrets by arranging prostitutes, Lady Gaga tickets and other bribes for a U.S. commander, in a scandal reverberating across the Navy.

The accusations unfolding in a federal court case signal serious national security breaches and corruption, with the threat that more people, including those of higher ranks, could be swept up as the investigation continues. A hearing Nov. 8 could set a trial date.

Navy commander Michael Vannak Khem Misiewicz passed confidential information on ship routes to Francis’ Singapore-based company, Glenn Defense Marine Asia Ltd., or GDMA, according to the court documents.

Misiewicz and Francis moved Navy vessels like chess pieces, diverting aircraft carriers, destroyers and other ships to Asian ports with lax oversight where Francis could inflate costs, according to the criminal complaint. The firm overcharged the Navy millions for fuel, food and other services it provided, and invented tariffs by using phony port authorities, the prosecution alleges.

“What difference at this point does it make?”

This morning’s point counterpoint brought to you by Dan Riehl and Jeff Dunetz.

Taking the anti-NRSC side is Dan Riehl: Did the NRSC’s Josh Holmes Just Cost Mitch McConnell His Primary?

In 9 plus years of blogging, never have I seen a story this telling of a Republican Party that doesn’t understand its base, or New Media. Worse, it’s indicative of a corrupt inside the Beltway party that has abandoned, or decided to ignore nearly everything I believe in as an American and a conservative. This is a disaster for several reasons I’ll try to briefly and clearly explain my thinking below.

GLOVES OFF: GOP ESTABLISHMENT GOES AFTER TEA PARTY

The National Republican Senate Committee, the GOP campaign arm responsible for Senate elections, has decided to use its political power to block consulting firm Jamestown Associates from receiving political work from GOP candidates or incumbents.

First and foremost, this has nothing to do with Jamestown Associates, or the Senate Conservative Fund. It’s foolish for McConnell and company to pretend there aren’t dozens of firms capable of pursuing any business one, or another firm might forego.

Furthermore, since when did the GOP decide it was against the free market AND the First Amendment? The insular nature of thinking that led McConnell, Josh Holmes and the NRSC into this debacle should frighten all Americans. It’s Neo-leftist, all but Stalin-esque and especially grotesque coming from a party that purports to stand for liberty. This is not the GOP I came to support when I abandoned the Democrat Party to vote for Ronald Reagan. If this kind of nonsense keeps up, soon, I won’t be supporting  the GOP at all.

The grassroots base the GOP needs to turn out for them to win elections neither knows, nor cares about a Jamestown whatever, or some ‘fund.’ But that some thirty-something upstart who appears to have never held a real job outside of the DC political bubble thinks runningto the New York Times is a smart way to send someone a message given the nature of this message and the current state of GOP politics is truly one of the dumbest moves I’ve seen out of DC in sometime. All it did was confirm the absolute worst fears of an already all-too-weary GOP base.

Jeff Dunetz, Yid With Lid: Nonsense! It’s Not Thuggery or Anti-Tea Party, It’s Good Business:

In March of 1988 Northwest Airlines announced that it would ban smoking on all flights within North America, effective April 23, 1988. Northwest was the first airlines to make the announcement and bragged about its no smoking policy in its new TV commercials. One week later, RJR Kraft the conglomerate which owned Kraft and RJ Reynolds cigarettes, moved its $70-$80 million dollar account from Saatchi & Saatchi DFS Compton, the agency which created the Northwest account. Their rationale was that their advertising consultant could not do a good job working both for and against them.

This past Friday the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) this week informed a Jamestown Associates, a prominent Republican advertising firm, that it would not receive any contracts with the campaign committee because of its work with the Senate Conservatives Fund, a group that at times targets incumbent Senate Republicans. It was also reported that a senior official at the committee called individual Republican Senate campaigns and other party organizations this week and urged them not to hire the firm, Jamestown Associates. Their rationale was that an advertising consultant could not do a good job working both for and against them.

A relationship between advertiser and agency is a unique one.  For the agency to do it’s job well the advertiser must share with their consultant the most intimate of details—polling, strategy, when, where and how it intends to surprise it’s competition etc.

Both RJR Kraft and the NRSC made the correct decision. Not to support and/or share their strategy with a company working against those strategies.

Read the rest, here.

Speaking for myself…I am neither a “party purist” nor am I a RINO. I am a deeply conservative but pragmatic Republican who wants to win.

I understand that there are districts in this country where a Republican as conservative as I am  can. not. win – so we need to apply the Buckley rule –  support the most conservative candidate who is electable. Sometimes that candidate is going to be someone who is much less conservative than I am. Unless there is a massive change in the political ideology in the bluer sections of the country, that’s just the way it has to be. All of this “establishment” vs “tea-party” infighting is childish and destructive because it plays right into the Democrat media complex’s narrative that the party is imploding. The tea party needs to understand that not every candidate is going to be their ideal limited government, culturally conservative candidate, and the establishment needs to try a little harder to  get along with the more conservative factions of their party who are trying to pull it in the right direction.

Moe Lane: Ken Cuccinelli helpfully reminds Virginia that Barack Obama & Terry McAuliffe are allies. #obamacare.

This is, of course, a parody of Barack Obama’s actual remarks about Terry McAuliffe. You can tell because surely Barack Obama would not be stupid enough to praise Obamacare – and McAuliffe’s intention to actually drag the state further into its clutches – two days before the Virginia gubernatorial election. There are limits to idiocy.

There have to be.

Anyway, a taste:

I’m here today because Terry has always had my back — alright maybe not in 2008 — but ever since then. He’s been a vocal supporter for our legislative priorities, especially the Affordable Care Act. Terry even wanted the public option and was just as disappointed as I was when that didn’t work out.

Johnny Jet: Flight turns unforgettable when passengers learn of fallen soldier:

Delta Flight 2255 from Atlanta to Los Angeles seemed to be an ordinary flight with the exception of Candy, who was the most loving flight attendant I’ve ever encountered. Besides using her Southern charm to quickly defuse every situation, she began her welcome announcement by thanking the handful of uniformed soldiers on-board for serving our country. Her poignant message was followed by applause, and it put into perspective that none of us would be able to do what we do without these brave men and women.

But this transcontinental flight turned out to be everything but ordinary. We later learned, when the captain got on the PA system about 45 minutes prior to landing, that we were transporting a fallen soldier. The plane went quiet as he explained that there was a military escort on-board and asked that everyone remain seated for a couple of minutes so the soldiers could get off first. He also warned us not to be alarmed if we see fire trucks since Los Angeles greets their fallen military with a water canon salute. See my video below.

A few minutes after touchdown, we did indeed have a water canon salute, which I’d previously only experienced on happy occasions like inaugural flights. This time, the water glistening on the windowpanes looked like tears.

Thomas More Law Center: Three-Star General: Muslim Brotherhood Has Infiltrated Department of Defense:

ANN ARBOR, MI – U.S. Army Lieutenant General (Ret.) William “Jerry” Boykin, in a recent World Net Daily radio interview, confirmed that people with high security clearances connected to the Muslim Brotherhood hold important positions in every major federal agency including the Pentagon and the Department of Defense.

The Muslim Brotherhood is a radical Islamist organization that has vowed the destruction of America from within.

General Boykin has the credentials to back up his conclusions.  He was one of the original members of the U.S. Army’s Delta Force which he ultimately led in combat operations.  He also served a tour in the CIA during which time he participated in clandestine operations throughout the world.   He served his last four years in the Army as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.

Bryan Preston, PJ Media: Victims or Perpetrators? How Democrats Are Waging Guerilla War Against Popular Voter ID Laws:

On the national scene, President Obama and the Democrats defend the unpopular Obamacare law as settled law of the land, therefore do not question it. At the same time, though, the Democrats relentlessly attack voter ID laws that have been enacted in several states over the past few years. The Obama administration is even waging courtroom war against those laws, suing states including Texas that have passed voter ID to get the laws gutted. Texas is key to Democrats’ hopes to build a permanent presidency and congressional majority, so whatever happens in Texas won’t stay in Texas. Voter ID seems to fill Democrats with dread that they cannot win the state.

For the sake of perspective, it’s worth noting that while Obamacare has never had majority support, voter ID laws routinely grab about 70% support, across all ethnicities, including in Texas. These are popular laws that most Americans recognize are needed to keep our elections secure. In a border state like Texas, border jumping, identity theft, and absentee vote brokering all combine to make voter ID necessary to ensure that legitimate votes count, and illegal votes do not.

Newsbusters: Greta Van Susteren on Obama ‘Misspoke': ‘New York Times Makes Itself Look Pathetic’

As NewsBusters reported earlier, the New York Times embarrassed itself Sunday with an editorial astonishingly claiming President Obama “misspoke” when he told Americans they could keep their health insurance plans if they liked them.

Fox News host Greta Van Susteren couldn’t wait until Monday’s On the Record to comment and instead took to her blog to rip the Times as only she can:

***

The point of this blog post is to point out how pathetic the NY Times Editorial Board looks trying to describe this as ‘misspeaking.’ Does the Board think the American people are that stupid? Misspeaking?

As a criminal defense lawyer, and consistent with my client’s Constitutional rights, I have had to argue some pretty absurd things (eg the government’s failure to prove my client’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt after he voluntarily confessed to police) but the NY Times tops anything I have had to argue with its editorial…

Twitchy: ‘Boom!’ Dana Loesch shreds NYT’s Obama ‘misspoke’ lie with simple question:

Yep, that’s a win right there. You see, the New York Times upped the hackery Sunday when its editorial board absurdly claimed that President Obama didn’t really lie when he said “you can keep your plan.” Guys, he totally just “misspoke!” Over and over. Period.

As Twitchy reported, the mockery was swift and sure. And “just bloggers” and citizens helped out the “real journalists” over at the paper of hack-tastic record with a brutal compilation video of all of President Liar Pants’ “misspeaking.“

John Boehner channels Cruz: It’s Time for the Senate to Listen to the American People:

On the House floor this morning, Speaker Boehner challenged Democratic leaders in the Senate to listen to the American people — who don’t want a government shutdown and don’t want ObamaCare — and pass the House’s plan to delay the president’s health care law and repeal the medical device tax.

Ted Cruz: Reid Tables Bill to Fund Government, Refuses to Come to Table with Republicans:

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) released the following statement regarding Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s decision to block consideration of the House-passed Continuing Resolution to avoid a government shutdown.

“Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had the opportunity this afternoon to avert a government shutdown. Instead, he chose to kill the House’s bill to keep government open, a deliberate act to move towards a government shutdown. This is no surprise. After the House acted Saturday night, Sen. Reid refused to call the Senate back to service, instead leaving senators at home on vacation while a shutdown loomed. And he has apparently advised the President not to meet with House and Senate leaders of both parties. Harry Reid wants a shutdown, because, sadly, Democrats are putting politics above the needs of the American people. The New York Times explained why: because, as the Democrats believe “now is the time to break the power of Tea Party Republicans.”

“This is exactly the kind of DC-based thinking that makes Americans disdain Washington, DC. Democrats need to listen to the people and start working for the millions of Americans who are losing their jobs, wages, and healthcare benefits because of Obamacare. This is not a debate over a government shutdown; it’s a debate about how Obamacare is plaguing our economy. I will continue working to make sure the government stays open and Americans receive the same benefits as giant corporations and Congress under Obamacare. Until then, I hope the American people will continue to speak out against this disastrous, train wreck of a law and make DC listen.”

NRSC: Who’s in Charge?

Amidst all the talk about ObamaCare and dysfunction in Washington, it turns out that President Obama – who has been M.I.A. and refused to even discuss a compromise – actually wanted to meet with Congressional Leaders to prevent a government shutdown, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid talked him out of it.

According to Politico: “When the president considered sitting down with the four congressional leaders in the White House ahead of the deadline to avert a government shutdown, Reid privately urged Obama to call off the meeting, according to several people familiar with the situation.”

Think about that. President Obama wanted to do what Presidents do – bring leaders together to forge a compromise – and Harry Reid talked him out of it. Why? The only reason one can assume is that Harry Reid believes that shutting down the government is politically advantageous for Democrats.

Legal Insurrection: #BlameHarryReid:

For a government shutdown if it happens.

The U.S. Senate is dysfunctional because of Harry Reid.

No budget.

No votes on most House legislation.

No nothing except his way or the highway.

We’re seeing it again in the Continuing Resolution and Debt Ceiling battles.  Because Reid has shut down and shut out Republican voices, the only way to raise budget issues is using Continuing Resolution and Debt Ceiling deadlines — a necessity in Harry Reid’s Senate not the choice Republicans wanted.

John Nolte, Big Journalism: LIVE BLOG: MEDIA COVERAGE OF GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN:

Last week, as the prospect of a federal government shutdown loomed as reality, the President of the United States told the media that he would “not negotiate” with “house burners.” And with that, the American mainstream media threw away their longstanding belief in “civil bipartisan compromise” in order to stand with Obama.

Since then, the GOP have passed two bills to avert a shutdown, both Senate Democrats and Obama have refused to offer a compromise, and now the media are attempting to make the GOP look like the crazies and the Democrats and Obama look like statesman.

Republicans are attempting two tricks to convince conservatives the GOP is still with them.

The first is the Vitter Amendment, named for Senator David Vitter, which would require Congress to adhere to Obamacare like the rest of us. I consider it a shiny object and you should not be cheering the GOP is they get it. Congress will always game the system to benefit itself. Pass the Vitter amendment and within a year you’ll see Congress have a full medical station in its basement where congressmen and their staffs can go. Likewise, the Vitter Amendment fixes something that is only temporary, if the Office of Personnel Management is to be believed.

Just wait. The Vitter Amendment will be hailed by seal clapping conservatives as a major win and, while distracted by flippers in the air, Congress will find a way around it. Aristocrats are always able to exempt themselves. If it isn’t a doctor in the basement, it’ll be a pay raise for congressmen and their staffs to offset the burden of Obamacare.

Glenn Reynolds, USA Today: IRS scandal means bad news for Obama: Column:

So last week, while most of the country was talking about football or fears of a government shutdown, Rasmussen released a poll that should worry everyone — but especially incumbent Democrats in Congress. According to Rasmussen’s survey, most Americans think the IRS broke the law by targeting Tea Party groups for harassment, but few expect it to be punished. Fifty-three percent think the IRS broke the law by targeting the Tea Party and other conservative groups like the voter-integrity outfit True The Vote; only 24% disagreed. But only 17%think it is even somewhat likely that anyone will be charged, while 74% think that criminal charges are unlikely.

COLUMN: Assault by civil forfeiture

So a majority of Americans think that government officials who exercise an important trust broke the law, but only a very small number think anything will be done to punish them.

Seton Motley, Human Events: SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO LET GOVERNMENT GO:

There is an awful lot of government going on in Washington. Which is what happens when you spend $3.8 trillion – as DC is doing this year.  Up from $2.9 trillion just five years ago. We’ve increased the size of the Leviathan by just short of 25% under President Barack Obama.

In 2013 came the budget sequestration – $85 billion in spending cuts.  So we increased by $900 billion – then rolled it back $85 billion.  We’re still up 90+% over 2008 – not exactly Draconian or austere.

That every penny in this nearly $4 trillion annual pile is vitally important, being spent wisely and well – and in fact isn’t nearly enough – is one of the colossally dubious arguments of all time.  Yet many make it.

President Calvin Coolidge’s last budget was smaller than his first – and was a MUCH smaller portion of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Robert Parry, Consortium News: Syrian Rebels Embrace al-Qaeda:

Official Washington was caught off-guard this week when the radicalization of the Syrian rebels went from being an obscured reality to an undeniable truth. Syria’s most powerful rebel forces renounced the “moderate” exiles, who have been nurtured by the West, and embraced an Islamic extremist organization affiliated with al-Qaeda.

This development now confronts the West with a set of even grimmer choices: help the radical jihadists win the war and turn Syria into a Taliban-style homeland for terrorism in the center of the Middle East; accept an indefinite continuation of the bloody civil war hoping that no one wins as the bodies pile up; or work with the Assad regime and the weakened “moderates” to bring about some kind of political reform that might placate the estranged Sunni majority while isolating the extreme Islamists.

(Official White House Photo by Amanda Lucidon)If the last option seems to you to be the least worst, you would find yourself in a distinct minority inside Official Washington, where politicians and pundits still prefer to swagger about, issuing ultimatums demanding the unconditional removal of President Bashar al-Assad, whose regime has committed many atrocities in a civil war where brutality is common on both sides.

Washington Times:  Syria: Al-Qaeda-linked ‘terrorists’ eat human hearts:

These are the people we’re arming…

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem claimed Monday that his government is fighting a war against al-Qaida-linked militants who eat human hearts and dismember people while they are still alive, then send their limbs to family members.

Mr. al-Moallem, addressing world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, also charged that the United States, Britain and France had blocked the naming of the real perpetrators of chemical weapons attacks in Syria, which he blamed on the opposition.

He claimed “terrorists” fighting the regime in the civil war are being supplied with chemical weapons, but he did not name specific nations accused of supplying them.

President Obama told the same forum last week that it was the President Bashar Assad’s regime that was behind a chemical weapons attack in August that killed hundreds in the Damascus suburbs and brought threats of a retaliatory U.S. strike.

Washington Times: Al Nusra Front, an al Qaeda branch, and the Free Syrian Army jointly seize border crossing:

The Al Nusra Front for the People of the Levant, one of two al Qaeda branches fighting in Syria, recently teamed up with the Yarmouk Brigade of the Free Syrian Army to capture the Ramtha military post on the border with Jordan after four days of fighting, according to several reports.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 26 government soldiers and a number of rebels were killed in Saturday’s battle for border crossing on the outskirts of the southern city of Deraa.

The Yarmouk Brigade, the Al Nusra Front and the Aknaf Bait al Maqdis (Defenders of Jerusalem), another al Qaeda-linked group that operates in Daraa, began the final push to take control of the border crossing last week, the Long War Journal reported.

A rebel military commander told Al Hayat that the Al Nusra Front and the Aknaf Bait al Maqdis “played an essential role in the storming of the crossing through coordinated efforts with the south Syria command center that is controlled by factions affiliated with the FSA.”

Shoebat Foundation: Westgate Mall attack and an Islamic Reality:

David Wood of Answering Muslims has posted a very informative video in which he analyzes the Nairobi Westgate Mall terror attack relative to what the Qur’an says. Western leaders like British Prime Minister David Cameron continue to deny reality and Wood nails him on it. The truth is simple to understand – unless you’re a politician. Al-Shabaab was acting in accordance to the dictates of their religion.

Colin Flaherty, FrontPageMagazine: Two Weeks in September:

Large scale black mob violence is now a regular feature of life in many American cities. Not just places like New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Baltimore, Boston and Washington, D.C. But smaller cities as well. Place like Irondequoit, New York. Grandview, Missouri. Peoria. Springfield.

Big or small, they share this: Local media is loathe to report it.

On September 14th in Kansas City, hundreds of black people created mayhem and violence at the Country Club Plaza, part of an upscale shopping district. Mounted police and members of the SWAT team used pepper spray to subdue and disburse the crowd.

Tweeting from the scene, local NBC reporter Garrett Haake said, “Police andteens tell me after a movie got out, a large group came here to avoid the curfew and a fight broke out. Police arrived and sprayed.”

Assaults, robberies, vandalism, broken jaws, property destruction and other mayhem are a “perennial problem” at the Plaza, says one Kansas City TV station.

The Missouri Torch: Unless The Right Acts Now, Missouri Will Turn Blue By 2016 – Here’s How And Why It Will Happen:

President George W. Bush won Colorado by 9 percentage points in 2000.

Two years later, the Republican candidate for Colorado governor, Bill Owens, crushed his opponent 63 to 34.

Two years after that:

Despite a large Republican advantage in registered voters and the popularity of President Bush, who carried the state easily for the second time, Colorado Democrats picked up a U.S. Senate seat and House seat that had been considered safe for the GOP. They reversed Republican majorities in the state House and Senate to take control of the legislature.

And two years after that:

Democrat Bill Ritter trounced Republican U.S. Rep. Bob Beauprez on Tuesday in the race to become the 41st Colorado governor – completing a stunning year-long transformation from the party’s unwanted candidate to its leading figure.

In six years, Colorado Republicans lost the state House and  Senate, a U.S. Senate seat and the Governor’s mansion.

You may be thinking, “Well, it’s only a matter of time before this comes to Missouri.”

If so, you’re wrong.

It’s already here.

What Happened in Colorado

What happened in Colorado could fill a book. I know, because I’ve read the book on what happened in Colorado.

Hans A. von Spakovsky, Heritage: What Happens During a Government “Shutdown”?

If President Barack Obama “shuts down” the government by vetoing a continuing resolution (CR) that funds all government operations with the exception of Obamacare, or the Senate fails to pass such a CR, crucial services will continue without interruption. That includes all services essential for national security and public safety—such as the military and law enforcement—as well as mandatory government payments such as Social Security and veterans’ benefits.

The key fact, as the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) itself has said, is that when there is a short-term lapse in appropriations, “the federal Government will not be truly ‘shut down’…because Congress has itself provided that some activities of Government should continue.” In fact, any claims that not passing a CR will result in a “shutting down” of the government “is an entirely inaccurate description” according to the DOJ.[1]

Such a lapse in funding would be neither catastrophic nor unprecedented, but it would pare down government services to those most essential for “the safety of human life or the protection of property.” That would not include the hundreds of billions of dollars in the federal budget that are constantly squandered and wasted on frivolous, unnecessary, and unneeded programs.

#StandWithWendy

Yesterday, something very “special” happened in Texas, according to our own president.

He was showing his support for Texas state senator Wendy Davis, who Yesterday, executed a one-woman filibuster to block a GOP-led effort to ban women from aborting their babies at 20 weeks.

Commentary’s Bethany Mandel refuted the moral bankruptcy of #StandWithWendy with one devastating tweet:

But the pro aborts are shameless and soon #StandWithWendy morphed into #TexasSpring (Which should be read #LateTermAbortionSpring or #GosnellSpring)

Because by now, we all know that anything with #Spring attached to it is not going to end well, right? Obama’s “Special” forces accomplished just what the Community Organizer in Chief had in mind.

Via Twitchy: Midnight chaos: Screaming pro-abortion mob disrupts Texas state legislature vote on SB 5

#TexasSpring: Morally bankrupt mob declares abortion screamfest the new Arab Spring:

The unruly pro-abortion mob that supported Texas lawmaker Wendy Davis’s filibuster of S.B. 5 with out-of-control, screaming tantrums? Just kicking off the new Arab Spring.

Shameless pro-aborts took to Twitter to celebrate the #TexasSpring ushered in by undemocratic mob rule that disrupted the Texas Senate session and delayed the vote until after the midnight deadline. Late-term abortion on demand, more Kermit Gosnells, unsafe abortion facilities? A victory for human rights (unless you’re an unborn human, natch).

These are the oh-so-brave freedom fighters dead set on preventing the legislature from placing restrictions on abortions after 20 weeks.

dead set”. No pun intended, I’m sure.

UPDATE:

A pro-life group responds.

Americans United for Life Says Texas Women Less Safe as a Result of Anti-Life Filibuster:

“Though pro-life leaders were not successful early this morning, we know that abortion harms women and girls, as well as unborn infants, and we see a growing consensus across the country that abortions late in pregnancy are especially harmful to women,” said AUL’s Dr. Charmaine Yoest.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (06-26-13) – Americans United for Life President and CEO, Dr. Charmaine Yoest, commended members of the Texas Senate “for attempting to protect the lives and health of women and girls routinely victimized by a profit-hungry abortion industry, but sadly a large, well-funded, and powerful anti-woman coalition worked to block these much needed legal protections.”

While the Texas House passed the measure, Texas Senators were unsuccessful in overcoming a Democrat Party-led filibuster of Senate Bill 5 that would have limited abortions after 20 weeks, required that abortions take place in facilities regulated like other out-patient surgical facilities, and by physicians who had admitting privileges at local hospitals. The bill also included AUL model legislation regulating the provision of abortion-inducing drugs such as RU-486, requiring that FDA-approved protocols be followed. At this point, the measure cannot be reconsidered in Texas until 2015 when the legislature reconvenes.

“Governor Rick Perry, members of the Texas House, and GOP leaders in the Senate should be commended for advancing this cutting-edge, protective legislation,” said Dr. Yoest.  “Though pro-life leaders were not successful early this morning, we know that abortion harms women and girls, as well as unborn infants, and we see a growing consensus across the country that abortions late in pregnancy are especially harmful to women.”

“Since the trial of ‘house of horrors’ Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, the nation has focused on what all too often takes place behind the closed doors of abortion clinics across America,” said Dr. Yoest. “The time is now to save lives and protect women from an unregulated, unmonitored, and unaccountable abortion industry.”

Video: O’Keefe Investigation Exposes Sickening Fraud and Abuse in $2.2 Billion ‘Obama Phones’ Program

Need a quick 40 bucks to fund your next heroine high? Hey, I don’t judge” say’s an Obamaphone worker at Stand Up Wireless in Philadelphia, (an area that likely voted for Obama 100+%)

In Project Veritas’ investigation into the government’s fraud-ridden$2.2 billion dollar LifeLine ( ‘Obama Phone’) program, O’Keefe’s team film employees telling them they can sell the phones to buy Heroin and expensive handbags.

“All I’m saying is, thank God for Obama,” one of the investigators gushes, “because Obama is basically paying for my Louis Vuitton bag, right now, if you know what I mean!”

It’s not that we didn’t know that this was going on, already. At least now there’s hard evidence that Congress can look at and Democrats can try to defend.

On a side note….what kind of moral universe do these Obamaphone workers live in that they have no problem pushing an obviously corrupt, and gut-wrenchingly wasteful boondoggle like this? How do they sleep at night? Are those of us who actually buy our own phones when we could easily get one for free, “suckers” in their book?

You can help fund more investigations of this kind by ordering O’Keefe’s new book: Breakthrough: Our Guerilla War to Expose Fraud and Save Democracy [Hardcover]

Acorn Planned Parenthood NPR Medicaid VOTER FRAUD The New Jersey educational association Labor Unions Hailed by David Weigel in Slate as having had more of an impact on the 2012 election than any journalist, James OKeefe is young, brash, and provocative: a new breed of guerrilla reporter for the twenty-first century. He and his associates have famously infiltrated some of Americas most protected organizations and institutions. They have challenged politicians, bureaucrats, media moguls, union bosses, and election officials, all with the goal of exposing the lies and malfeasance heretofore hidden from the public. Now, OKeefe chronicles the harrowing undercover investigation that opened Americas eyes to the chicanery of its state houses and the duplicity of the White House during one of the most compromised election campaigns in our nations history: the 2012 presidential race.

Of all his controversial sting operations, this was the one that his late mentor, Andrew Breitbart, called his most consequential. While still on federal probation, OKeefe organized an army of citizen journalists, planned a series of video stings to reveal the American systems vulnerability to voter fraud, and went nose to nose with the most powerful political machine in the world. Along the way, OKeefe found disheartening evidence that Americans are not nearly as free a people as we may believe, but he also showed just how much real change ordinary citizens can bring about when they are willing to risk the wrath of the powerful. In just a few years, OKeefe and his citizen journalism corps, Project Veritas, uncovered systemic corruption at ACORN, leading to its defunding by Congress; exposed the contemptuous biases of NPR executives leading to the resignation of two of their top people and a vote to freeze NPR funding by the House of Representatives; showed the callous indifference of New Jersey Educational Association officials to taxpayers and students; and revealed the easy tolerance of fraud at Planned Parenthood, Medicaid, HUD, and other government agencies. Perhaps most important, their work inspired several states to reform their election laws. Free of ideology, Breakthrough is at its core a clarion call for a more ethical society. Despite being vilified and libeled by an establishment media dedicated to suppressing the truth, James OKeefe has dared to break through the firewall and reshape public opinion by showing things as they really are.
