Unmitigated Arrogance And Gall On Display

The grumpy old guy has gone off the reservation again.

John McCain, is quoted in the New York Times berating the Tea Party Republicans for having the temerity to not play the Washington game of doing the same old thing, and declaring it something different.

Mr. McCain mocked Tea Party-allied Republicans in the House for believing — wrongly, he said — that President Obama and Democrats will get the blame for a default if Republicans refuse to increase the nation’s debt ceiling.

By that flawed logic, “Democrats would have no choice but to pass a balanced budget amendment and reform entitlements and the Tea Party Hobbits could return to Middle Earth,” he said, quoting a Wall Street Journal editorial.

“This is the kind of crack political thinking that turned Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell into G.O.P. nominees,” he jeered, referring to two losing Tea Party candidates for the Senate in 2010.

——-

Mr. McCain assailed the conservative Republicans in the House who are threatening passage of the debt cutting plan by the House speaker, John A. Boehner, calling their political logic “bizarro” and noting sarcastically that they have only been in office a short time.

“Maybe some people who have only been in this body for six or seven months or so really believe that,” he said. “Others know better. Others know better.”

Shame on you, Senator.  You are part of the greatest deliberative body in the world, and rather than making your case and persuading your colleagues (and the American Public), instead you belittle and insult your colleagues who stand firm on doing what they were sent there to do, which was stop the madness.

Instead you give us the same arrogant condescension that we despise from the Democrats.  “We know better than you.  Shut up and do what you’re told.”

I think someone’s been in D.C. long enough.

  1. “Instead you give us the same arrogant condescension that we despise from the Democrats.”

Figure it out, BIW. Maybe the guy is the same “Republican” the last senior senator from PA was. And hopefully will meet the same end to his career.

John-John is not a Republican. Never was, never will be. He doesn’t have the ethical backbone to be so, and besides, he needs more hispanic voters for his next Senate run.

  2. How about the same “crack political thinking that turned John McCain into the Republican candidate in 2008”, Johnnie Boy? Too bad that weird lump on your neck hasn’t disabled your mouth.

  5. John McCain lost me when he came to Colorado right after Columbine, and told us that we didn’t have enough gun laws. Like any more felonies would have stopped those misfits. He is the very definition of a RINO…

  6. McCain was probably the model for Mel Brooks’ governor character in Blazing Saddles. ” I didn’t get a harrumph of out you. Watch your ass, mister”.

  7. There was a reason I didn’t vote for this McSame assclown. The same assclown who suspended his presidential campaign to rush back to Washington to vote for fiscal heroin.

Not that I voted for O’Bummer either.

  8. I am thinking that the Tea Party needs to be strategic. We just don’t have the numbers in office yet to get exactly what we want. Hence, we ought to approve the Boehner plan (which is nothing) and beat the hell out of the Democrats and recalcitrant Republicans in the next election.

  9. Gee, Sen McCain, where was this kind of crackdown rhetoric during the 2008 Presidential campaign? You beat up on your own way more brutally than you beat up on Oclueless–AND had you called him out then for all the things we knew then about him and, oh, have turned out to be true, then maybe you would’ve won the election and we wouldn’t be in this mess now. You’re 3 years late and $everal trillion short, ol’ man. Thanx for nothin’. Perhaps YOU’ve been in office for too LONG a time …

  10. And once again, McCain shows that the establishment GOP is the “stupid party.”

It was this kind of thinking-the let’s get along and compromise the country away that got us into the mess that we are in.

It’s time to make the RINOs extinct.

  11. You can’t legislate against stupidity, but McCain is living proof stupid can pretend to legislate.

If stupid were the drop-off for qualifying for elective office, McCain and about 75% of the rest of elected officials all across the nation would be out of jobs. And being stupid and in this economy, wouldn’t have very bright prospects for one, either, especially the way most of them treat Wal Mart. BTW, lying would get most of the rest of them.

  13. Such hubris to mock Angle and O’Donnell. This from arguably the weakest candidate since Dukakis. There has never been an easier target that Obama and McCain forbade anyone to go after him. Despicable.

  14. McCain, just do like your pal Arlen Specter did and show your true colors. Sure, all palsy-walsy with the Tea Party at election time, but decide to abandon their principles now. Shameful.

  16. Come on everyone. Surely you are not surprised. McCain is only conservative at election time. He needs to be retired as he has been in Washington way to long.

  17. Here’s my problem with McCain:

    We – Are – Freaking – BROKE.

The idea that, once again, “just wait until WE get power and then trust us” mentality is how we got here.

It’s scary for those that have built their entire adult life and career around gov’t being their job, for them to shut down the gravy train, but for those of us not living inside the beltway, it’s NORMAL.

We keep paying money for less services and more busy-body control and regulations. No thanks.
