Speaking at the banquet Friday night was VA candidate for Senate, Tea party organizer, Jaime Radtke, followed by Andrew Breitbart.

St. Louis radio talk show host, Big Journalism editor, and nationally known pundit, Dana Loesch emceed the banquet. In the wake of the latest news coming out of Washington, she made the point that we criticize the GOP “because we care”:

    My party, right or wrong. [Then the part usually left out:] “if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.”

    That’s attributed to Sen, Carl Shurz (1829–1906, said in the Senate in 1872). He was responding to someone trying to embarrass him with the first part of the quote.

    That first part was said by Captain Stephen Decatur, whom President Jefferson sent to deal with the Barbary Pirates. After he successfully did that, he came back in 1816, a bit of a hero. That’s when he said

    “Our country! In her intercourse with foreign nations, may she always be in the right; but our country, right or wrong.”
