From the WSJ:

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich touted the virtues of Freddie Macā€™s business model in an interview he conducted with the company in April, 2007, remarks that appear at odds with the candidateā€™s recent statements that he had warned the company of impending financial disaster.

[…]

A spokesman for Mr. Gingrich, Joe DeSantis, said the interview showed Mr. Gingrich arguing for improved regulation of Freddie Mac and its larger cousin, Fannie Mae. He said the interview ā€œdirectly contradicts the erroneous reportsā€ that Mr. Gingrich was trying to stop reforms to Fannie and Freddie.

  1. This primary season is tedious and quite frankly is taking its toll on me. Mitt Romney, in the last election, WAS the conservative candidate that could beat the Democrat (who we thought would be Hillary.) He was tagteamed out of it and we got an old a Washington insider career politician that didn’t have a prayer. So when the nation’s economy tanked and we have someone with no executive experience in the white house and have seen the consequences…. we’re excited about a Washington insider with no executive experience and no business accomplishments other than taking money from Fanny and Freddie as an “historian” who was forced to resign as Speaker in disgrace. He’s never won an election outside a conservative setting. The Republican primary IS a conservative setting. The General election is NOT. Whether we want to admit it or not his personal life and his political life will be a big problem and we’ll serve up to the Obama team exactly what they wanted. Now I’m seeing stories generated from the Left (who by the way started the “anti-Romney” thing) that Newt will be popular with women. What? I’m not talking about conservative women, I’m talking about the rest of the United States. I live in a blue state and Newt is not popular with women. MItt, however, is. He’s popular with business owners, left, middle, and right Independents, and unless the conservatives (I’m one) are suicidal they’ll vote for him over Obama. Herman Cain had it right. They WANT Newt as the Presidential nominee. I like Newt but not as our nominee as President. Maybe VP.

I hear a lot about “Romneycare”. Where’s “Newtcare”? Newt is considered bold but the first governor in the history of the United States that actually tried to address the healthcare problem because his citizens demanded something be done is not? I don’t care if you agree or not with “Romneycare.” The people in Massachusetts still support it almost 3 to 1 even after the libs altered it and made it more expensive after he was gone. “Romney says whatever he thinks people want to hear?” No he doesn’t. If that were the case he would have cast aside “Romneycare” as a mistake. He “flip-flopped” on TARP? So if I support a bill funding programs that will decrease abortion and find out that most of the money went to abortion clinics would I be a “flipflopper” if I came out against it?

Sarah Palin chose not to run. Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum aren’t catching on and probably won’t with the rest of the country. Rick Perry is Mitt Romney four years ago and reminds too many people of George Bush. Ron Paul can never be elected in a General election. Herman Cain’s money will probably dry up unfortunately. The saddest thing for me to see is the characterization of Mitt Romney as being something other than a conservative because I live in his state and I saw what that guy had to do every day to balance the budget and keep things from getting out of control with a bunch of libs surrounding him. He took a beating in the liberal press daily and never flinched. Now I’m reading he’s “thinskinned.” You’ve got to be shitting me.

Hell if we’re intent on actually losing this election and then bitching about Obama for the next four years let’s go all out. Let’s kick the shit out of Romney to the point he loses in New Hampshire and South Carolina. Let’s nominate another candidate that can’t possibly win. Let’s ignore what the country really has become and pretend it’s something we wish it to be. Let’s gang up on the one guy that worked his ass off for the last four years to put in place an organization that could actually beat Obama. We could flip the twig to guys that endorsed him who know how to govern like Pawlenty, Christie, Thune, and others so that we can feel better. Here’s a good idea. Why don’t we nominate Newt in the hopes that Obama will actually accept “Lincoln-Douglas” style debates so he can kick his ass and get elected. I’m sure Obama will fall for that trap. And while we’re in fantasy world let’s envision that there’s no one out there in America that thinks slightly different from us and will vote for the old Washington career politician that was forced to leave his office in disgrace, who committed adultery, who flipflopped with the best of them, in the frumpy suit standing next to Obama.
