Obama’s Plan To Bankrupt The Coal Industry

Do the voters in Pennsylvania, and Ohio know about this?:

Partial transcript via Newsbusters:

Let me sort of describe my overall policy.

What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.

That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.

The only thing I’ve said with respect to coal, I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a (sic) ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.

It’s just that it will bankrupt them.

Nice one, Barry.

UPDATE:

Sarah Palin has already Incorporated Obama’s position into her stump speech, today. Click here to listen. (It comes at about 12 minutes in).

And it’s already been turned into a robocall by the McCain campaign. I’m not thrilled about that. People hang up on those. They need to create a quick and dirty ad, STAT.

MORE:

The Anchoress concurs:

I don’t know why the McCain camp is not running constant ads – at least in PA and Virginia, highlighting Obama’s admission that – given the opportunity – he’ll bankrupt any new coal plants.

UPDATE:

Here’s Sarah Palin today, slamming Obama on his his anti-coal comments:

Because those command economies worked out so spectacularly for the other communist/socialist/marxist states. The guy is the poster child for the ‘Evil Stupid’.

Is there some massive righty blogger mailing list? I must know.

    Honest question:

Are you EVER going to make an argument, and support it in an attempt to prove your enlightenment, or are you going to simply come in, toss a bomb, and then leave before someone lobs it back in to your lap?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

I think you have me confused for someone else.

I think you already know the answer to that, which is: No, we’re not nearly as well coordinated as the KosKids or the DU dorks.

I dunno. I certainly don’t get anything. But today, I saw this story show up on memeorandum and within an hour every righty blogger I could think of was pushing the exact same narrative. So I wondered.

Anyway, I’m not going to argue that Obama doesn’t have some pretty aggressive ideas wrt energy policies. But another way to spin what he’s saying there is that the way to move to cleaner energy is to make polluting less profitable.

Simple answer? John doesn’t have the belly to play dirty like the lefties, that’s why. He – like Bush – wants to “play nice” and “reach across the aisle” to work with the same scumbags who would destroy our economy and country to get and keep POWER. Everything they do is based on POWER. Over you, over me, over the entire country.

Yes, you’re not the first to be impressed by the power and speed of the blogswarm. To be among the first you’d have to have noticed it 5 years ago.
