The Crackdown In Iran Accelerates (UPDATED)

From The Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran:

A young female student was killed yesterday after being struck in the head by the baton of an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) agent in the city of Babolsar at around 22:00 local time. She was leaving the university in a bus.

Also at the University of Babolsar, the university guards known as Herasat (affiliated with the mullahs’ Ministry of Intelligence and Security – MOIS) have been given pictures of students under watch in order to arrest and hand them over to the MOIS. At least one female student was detained this way yesterday.

In Mashhad, one of the female students protesting the beating of other students by the regime’s suppressive forces has been severely injured in her back after she herself was struck by these forces.

Also, unconfirmed, but horrible if true; People are tweeting that government militia are guarding the hospitals, and stopping citizens who have baton injuries, or gunshot wounds from the protests. Those people are being arrested and questioned, perhaps tortured.

This FrontPageMagazine interview of Roozbeh Farahanipour, an Iranian journalist, and democracy activist, brought to light similar concerns:

Farahanipour: There are two different groups that are being captured for protesting. One group is the people inside the regime and the other is the general public. The insiders, such as Rafsanjani’s family members, are being treated with a degree of respect and not violated physically. The general public however is being tortured and murdered mercilessly.

FP: Is the Iranian regime ready and willing to engage in a Tiananmen-style massacre?

Farahanipour: They have been ready for several days now but serious “ethical” problems still confront them: Are their forces ready to fire upon people whom the Supreme Leader has called “our own” and in a conflict he has characterized as “internal disputes”? There are reports suggesting that there are conflicts within the regime forces over this. The next issue is whether a massive crackdown planned for the streets and for demonstrations would be relevant to strikes taking place in work places while the streets are the scenes of small and highly mobile skirmishes.

Salon reports on the terrible abuse of a 17 year old boy, nabbed from a parking lot and brutally tortured by government militia:

The pictures you are about to see are not from someone who supports anarchy, he is not even a part of the “DUST” that Ahmadinejad called his opponents. He is just a 17-year-old boy who was supposed to take the university entrance exam within a month before his fingers were broken and the finger webs were cut with a blade. He was arrested violently in the parking lot of a living complex without even taking part in any of the recent activities, and after more than 24 hours he returned home while his face was fully covered with blood and one could only see his eyes. These pictures are taken hours after his return home, his bruised face and broken nose cannot be shown due to his and his parents fear from the security guards.

I am surprised how I tolerated all the tortures and survived. I didn’t see anyone dying there; a lot of people just lost their consciousness, but I guess the baton strikes were so harsh that brain injury or internal bleeding was inevitable. I can never forget the scenes I saw there.”

The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran:

…today published lists of Iranian citizens it has confirmed killed and detained since the disputed 12 June presidential elections. The lists are not comprehensive and show the names of only some of the well-known detained citizens and only four of the dead.

The lists name a total of 240 detained persons, including 29 who were detained and then released, as well as 102 political figures, 23 journalists, 79 university students, and  7 university faculty who are still in detention. The lists include only the names of four citizens amongst many who were killed. Government sources have referred to 170 people detained prior to 15 June, 457 detained persons on 20 June, and 27 dead. Other sources claim these numbers are much higher. Given the strict restrictions imposed by the government, the Campaign’s possibilities to confirm detentions are  limited.

According to information received by the Campaign, many of those detained were arrested by plainclothes agents at their homes or other places, not at protests, and taken away in unmarked vehicles, which has led to extreme anxiety on the part of relatives about accountability for their safety. The Campaign has not received any reports of arrest warrants being presented, nor have family and friends of those in detention been informed of their whereabouts.

Iranian security officials have begun pulling down posters of Neda Agha Soltan, the young woman who has become the face of the country’s pro-democracy uprising after her death in Tehran was captured on video.

What is going to become of those people?

Some Mullahs are  getting in on the act, too, as seen in this photo from CNN:

In a blatant act of defiance, a group of Mullahs took to the streets of Tehran, to protest election results that returned incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to power.

Whether these clerics voted for Ahmadinejad or one of the opposition candidates is unknown. What is important here, is the decision to march against the will of Iran’s supreme leader who called the results final and declared demonstrations illegal.

In the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mullahs rule supreme. They are the country’s conservative clerics; the guardians of the Islamic revolution and its ideologies. They’re loyal only to God and Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Meanwhile, here in America, The President of the United States prepares to party with Diplomats from this outlaw regime on our own Independence Day.

Via Gateway Pundit: McCain, in a Huffpo interview, had some pointed words to say about the situation:

“Between Ahmadinejad and the reformers, do you think there’s any doubt what side President Obama is on?” McCain (R-Ariz.) was asked by the Huffington Post. “What would be the advantage…?”

“I know what side I’m on,” McCain cut in. “I’m on the side of the people. I’m not on Ahmadinejad’s side or Mousavi. I’m on the side of the Iranian people and I’m on the right side of history. And I’m not going to walk on the other side of the street while people are being killed and beaten in the streets of Iran.”

McCain said Obama’s reaction wasn’t equal to the situation. “We can’t sit by and watch a film clip on television of a young woman bleeding to death and say that we’re worried about the Iranian reaction or our ability to negotiate with them. We have to stand up for those people,” he said.

CNN Wire confirms in this report:

Security forces wielding clubs and firing weapons beat back demonstrators who flocked to a Tehran square Wednesday to continue protests, with one witness saying security forces beat people like “animals.”

At least two trusted sources described wild and violent conditions at a part of Tehran where protesters had planned to demonstrate.

“They were waiting for us,” the source said. “They all have guns and riot uniforms. It was like a mouse trap.”

“I see many people with broken arms, legs, heads — blood everywhere — pepper gas like war,” the source said.

Around “500 thugs” with clubs came out of a mosque and attacked people in the square, another source said.

The security forces were “”beating women madly” and “killing people like hell,” the source said.

“They beat up a woman so bad she was all bloody,” the source said in a description that underscores the growing and central role of women in the uprising.

If you have high blood pressure…better take your medicine. While all of this is going on, Andrew McCarthy writes that Obama is negotiating with Iranian terrorists,  after once  swearing that he wouldn’t:

Back in May 2008, in a speech before the Israeli Knesset, President Bush derided the “foolish delusion” of unidentified, naïve politicians who “seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along.” Exhibiting a thin-skinned consciousness of guilt, Sen. Barack Obama assumed Bush had been referring to him, and lashed out: “George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists.”

President Obama is now way beyond mere support of such engagement. Under his leadership, and even as the mullahs who have been at war with the United States for 30 years are engaged in a Tiananmen-style crackdown, Obama is neck-deep in terrorist-for-hostages negotiations with Iran-backed killers who have American blood on their hands.
