Santorum Gets Huge Blogger Endorsement

This is a great plug for the Santorum campaign, but is it too little, too late?

Michelle Malkin finally took off her nose plugs long enough to endorse a candidate:

Rick Santorum opposed TARP.

He didn’t cave when Chicken Littles in Washington invoked a manufactured crisis in 2008. He didn’t follow the pro-bailout GOP crowd — including Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich — and he didn’t have to obfuscate or rationalize his position then or now, like Rick Perry and Herman Cain did. He also opposed the auto bailout, Freddie and Fannie bailout, and porkulus bills.

Santorum opposed individual health care mandates — clearly and forcefully — as far back as his 1994 U.S. Senate run. He has launched the most cogent, forceful fusillade against both Romney and Gingrich for their muddied, pro-individual health care mandate waters.

He voted against cap and trade in 2003, voted yes to drilling in ANWR, and unlike Romney and Gingrich, Santorum has never dabbled with eco-radicals like John Holdren, Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi. He hasn’t written any “Contracts with the Earth.”

Santorum is strong on border security, national security, and defense. Mitt the Flip-Flopper and Open Borders-Pandering Newt have been far less trustworthy on immigration enforcement.

Santorum is an eloquent spokesperson for the culture of life. He has been savaged and ridiculed by leftist elites for upholding traditional family values — not just in word, but in deed.

He’s all those things and more. Keep reading.

I’ve always said there’s very much to recommend Santorum, not the least of which is – he’s a good guy.  I’ve been wavering between Santorum and Gingrich, because  to be honest, either one of the not-Romneys is fine with me. I like them both. How I vote on Feb 7 will be determined by whichever one has the most momentum going to beat Romney.

UPDATE:

Another huge blogger endorses Santorum at the American Thinker. (Just kidding, as far as I know Abie Rubin isn’t obese, either.)

UPDATE II:

A strategic word from Prof. Jacobson: A vote tomorrow for Santorum still is a vote for Romney:

The reality is that only Newt is within striking distance of Romney tomorrow in Florida, Santorum is the margin of difference, and only Newt tomorrow can derail the narrative of Romney inevitability.

If the narrative of Romney inevitability is derailed, Santorum politically gets to fight on and see if he can stage another Iowa in caucus states or elsewhere.

That’s what I was talking about when I said I’ll back the one who has the greatest chance of beating Romney. I actually lean toward Santorum, myself – but I’m not about to throw my vote away on a sure loser.

  1. Deb, although I almost always agree with you, this time I find a bit of fault in your thinking.

Instead of your vote being determined by whichever one “has the most momentum to beat Romney,” shouldn’t it be based upon which GOP candidate has the best momentum and opportunity to beat Obama?

That is, unless you’re up to four more years of Barack Obama!

  2. Yes, it does seem to imply the endorsement is from a :huge” Blogger … albeit once one reads that it’s Michelle, everyone knows better.

    Ergo, no harm done.

  3. But I don’t think it’s Romney. I think both Gingrich and Santorum draw a sharper distinction, and that’s what’s needed to beat Obama.

  4. I’m not paying attention to what the polls say, today, and neither should you. They can change on a dime. If this primary season has proved anything, it’s that.
The question you should ask is which one of these candidates has the greatest powers of persuasion to move the needle.

  5. Of course your vote on Feb 7 will end up having almost no impact in determining Missouri’s delegates since Missouri has returned to allocating delegates via county and state caucuses.

  6. I have been a Santorum supporter for a long time… he would not have been my first choice of all possible candidates but he is the clear best option at this point, in my opinion. I wish the endorsements had come earlier. I know he is staying in because he realizes that Newt has so much baggage and a tendency to implode. I do NOT want Romney. Sigh.

  7. Being from Wisconsin, my vote won’t much matter, but I’m now in Santorum’s camp. Hope the folks in Florida are paying attention, but it sounds like Mitt.

  8. I too have wavered between Rick and Newt-if we voted today I’d vote Newt but I’ve been sending money to Rick-weird huh?

McCain was frustrating-Romney is disgusting-I can’t believe in a year I thought I’d be saying President Palin, Mitt Romney might be the guy-unfreakingbelievable.

He’a obviously the candidate that Obama wants to run against and I’m thinking he’s gonna kill Mitt in the general.

  9. Hey Deb, perhaps you could dedicate a post to “throwing my vote away.” I seem to remember people saying this about McCain as opposed to anyone else. I believe it is this nonsensical view about “throwing my vote away” that gave us such standout candidates like Dole, McCain, and countless others. As long as everyone does not vote their conscience, we are doomed to be propping up the wrong people i.e. Romney. I will always vote my conscience and be satisfied after the lever is pulled that I made up my own mind based upon who I thought would be best, not who could win or who the punditry said should win

  10. Well, your comparison falls flat because the Dole/McCain candidate is Romney, this time. As I said, I can live with either Gingrich or Santorum. I, personally will go with the candidate who has the best chance of beating the Dole/McCain candidate. I’m not telling you what you should do, but I will say that I agree with Prof Jacobson’s assessment.

  11. As I mentioned above, for those of us in Missouri it is a moot point, since the Feb 17. primary doesn’t allocate any delegates. For that reason no matter who we (Missourit voters) vote for we aren’t throwing our vote away.

  12. Forgive me, God, but I just can’t help doing this:

All we like sheep have gone astray, and are following Romney into his every, varied, flip-flopping way…

And Newt? I’d take him in a heartbeat over Mitt, but (if he’s still on the ballot here in Oregon in May) will vote for Rick because he comes closer to my core values, consistently, than any of the others, because he has been consistent for years. Mitt is as solid as a mound of jello on most issues, and Newt is a much more intelligent version of an imploding Slo Joe Biden – he can’t keep his mouth shut long enough to think things through.

  13. One more datapoint for those of us in Missouri. Gingrich is not on the ballot. The options are as follows:

    Gary Johnson
    Herman Cain
    Mitt Romney
    Michael J. Meehan
    Rick Perry
    Keith Drummond
    Jon Huntsman
    Michele Bachmann
    Rick Santorum
    Ron Paul
    (UNCOMMITTED)

  14. That’s why Santorum is winning in one of the latest polls. With one of the not Romney’s off the ticket – the other not Romney wins.
