11 States Declare Sovereignty UPDATE: Now Up To 30 28

“Yes we can!” just turned into Je refuse! in 11 states that have insisted upon the right to refuse federal dollars they believe would be an infringement  upon state rights:

State governors — looking down the gun barrel of long-term spending forced on them by the Obama “stimulus” plan — are saying they will refuse to take the money.  This is a Constitutional confrontation between the federal government and the states unlike any in our time.

In the first five weeks of his presidency, Barack Obama has acted so rashly that at least 11 states have decided that his brand of “hope” equates to an intolerable expansion of the federal government’s authority over the states. These states — Washington, New Hampshire, Arizona, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, California, Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas — have passed resolutions reminding Obama that the 10th Amendment protects the rights of the states, which are the rights of the people, by limiting the power of the federal government. These resolutions call on Obama to “cease and desist” from his reckless government expansion and also indicate that federal laws and regulations implemented in violation of the 10th Amendment can be nullified by the states.

UPDATE (Feb 26):

The number of states who are reaffirming their right to sovereignty as stated in the 10th Amendment has now swelled to 30 states.

UPDATE (April 6):

Since that last link is no longer operational, I decided to update with a new link to a story from March 27,  in The Christian Science Monitor which claims the number up to 27 states with sovereignty bills.

  1. …AND… they are already trying to spin this around. in fact, the spin is so fast and furious, its hard not to get dizzy. try counting the spins in this beast of burden:

GLORIA BORGER, CNN SENIOR POLITICAL ANALYST: “Well, you know, it’s very difficult, because right now, quite frankly, the Republican Party looks more like the Confederacy, Wolf, than anything else. I mean they have no Republican representatives in the House, for example, from the half dozen New England states. And they’re trying — you know, I give Michael Steele credit here. But there has to be a message beyond we voted 100 percent against the stimulus package and we’re against President Obama.”

…and realize that somebody didn’t tell Borger that only 3 of the 11 states asserting their 10th Amendment rights were even in the Confederacy. and one of the 11 states is New Hampshire. (that’s in New England sweetie) oh well, “buy them books and send them to school… and all they do is act a fool…” sigh…

oh right. i forgot. she was taken out of context. duh.

  2. Our country is being destroyed. Most people will just sit by and watch it happen. While everyone is talking about the economy, preludes to martial law are taking place in this country under the pretense of anti-terrorism! Wake up America!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder why the mainstream news media isn’t talking about the states sovereignty issues, or the fact that Texas had to put its National Guard on alert because of the escalation of the border problems and that the FEDS hadn’t had time to respond yet! I also wonder why everyone is calling a man, who STILL has not proven whether or not he is a natural born citizen, the president? Again, why isn’t the media hounding him about it?

  3. Let us take a moment to look upon with “new eyes” and to breathe in the “fresh air” of these events. To see the states of this great nation in banding action is to witness the might and heart of everything we deem “AMERICAN”. Even the “Maestro” must bend to the will of the composers…as so and was written. Long live the Constitution of the United States of America.

  4. Checks and balances.
That’s what this new administration fears.
And what scares them more is a non-ignorant,
    well informed citizenry.The liberal democrats
wish to utilize the element of surprise.By the
time you get transparency it’s too late. The states
are engaging in a self defense action and I think
it’s time that we do the same by removing the
    threat.

  6. The article on the Christian Science Monitor website shows that only four states have actually passed resolutions asserting their sovereignty, two states have rejected similar resolutions, and 21 have simply had resolutions introduced which any lone legislator in any of these states could do without any meaningful support from any other legislators…just sayin’.
