Unconscionable

For almost a week, now, Obama has been blasting the new immigration law in Arizona that was signed by Governor Jan Brewer, calling it “poorly conceived”. On Wednesday, he repeated the popular misconception that Hispanics will be stopped and carded based on race:

“What I think is a mistake is when we start having local law enforcement officials given the power to stop people on the suspicions that they may be undocumented workers,” Obama told reporters. “That carries a great amount of risk.”

Obama has sharply criticized the law, asking the Justice Department to look into whether it violates civil rights. On Wednesday, he said he understands the frustrations of people in Arizona who are faced with thousands of immigrants coming into their state illegally, but he said the state’s new immigration law would only end up polarizing the debate over reform.

He should know better. Kris Kobach, who helped craft the bill, corrected that falsehood, among many others in his NYT oped, today:

Actually, Section 2 provides that a law enforcement official “may not solely consider race, color or national origin” in making any stops or determining immigration status. In addition, all normal Fourth Amendment protections against profiling will continue to apply. In fact, the Arizona law actually reduces the likelihood of race-based harassment by compelling police officers to contact the federal government as soon as is practicable when they suspect a person is an illegal alien, as opposed to letting them make arrests on their own assessment.

Newsbusters cited reactions from Byron York, and Andrew McCarthy , as well.

At the Corner, Andy McCarthy’s concluded:

The people who are complaining about this law almost certainly either have not read it or are demagogues who would make the same absurd claims no matter what the law said.

He’s demagoguing the issue, while Hispanic protesters riot in the streets:
and threaten to murder Americans with pick axes and shovels:

  1. Nice Deb, I often think that when it comes to the Mexicans, if we can’t beat ’em, we had better join ’em. I live around one of the largest populations of them the country now, and anyone who went to NYU or Columbia lived through the NYC-college-student-right-of-passage of living in the Puerto Rican barrios for four years. I really like Mexicans and hispanics in general. They are Catholic and very hard working and family oriented. I almost married one! (A good Christian chicana, but though divorced, the bishop wouldn’t give her an anullment!) On the other hand, I speak with authority when I say that illegal immigrants are from some of the most poor, ignorant, disadvantaged socio-economic groups of the third world. They have a gigantic alcohol/drug problem, which leads to all the evils that stem from it. Chicanos will admit that Mexcio is a brutal, corrupt, and dangerous place and illegals bring these tendencies with them. In truth, I cannot decide, but I do know this: IF WE ARE GOING TO OPPOSE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, WE DAMN WELL BETTER WIN BECAUSE IF WE FAIL THE LIBERALS WILL SWALLOW US ALL WITH THEIR NUMBERS FOREVER!!! AND IF WE LOSE, IT MEANS THE END OF ANGLO CIVILIZATION AS WE KNOW IT. SO IF WE FIGHT WE MUST FIGHT TO WIN!

  2. You sound like me, the last time around. I like Hispanics, too, and really, really want the Republicans to tread carefully on this issue. They will try to paint us as racists for opposing amnesty for illegals, so we have to be very careful with our rhetoric.

This isn’t about race, it’s about our country’s sovereignty, and the rule of law.

  3. The Selected thrives in stirring the masses and poking at burning embers, a perennial campaign mode method for him. If he indeed wanted to address the issues of illegal immmigration, he would have started long ago, remained factual of the issues both positive and negative, and avoided any slanting of those facts. The folks in Arizona are frustrated with the lack of federal enforcement of laws already in place, and as a result, have a multitude of problems (not the least of which is some very serious crime) to contend with on a state level. Arizona obviously did what a significant majority felt was ncessary. Let’s hope the federal government listens and begins to do their job.

  4. NO CRAP about Michael Medved. “I will prove it!” he said so many times in 2008, and he was proven wrong!

    Man is an arrogant fool.

As for hispanics The majority of my local populace is hispanics (including PR’s) Nice people mostly, and when they aren’t they learn that I can also not be a nice person, but that is besides the point.

There is a difference between “Illigal Immigration” not uncommon here, and “LEGAL immigration” also not uncommon here.

The LEGALS are NOT allies of the illegals, and I find that (ironically) the PR’s are MORE pro Illegal than the legal mexicans.

PR’s are BORN citizens but they are D!cks about forcing illegal recognition? meanwhile the mexicans think “I EARNED THIS MFER!”

It’s strange to see brown people (who scare me cuz I’m white, even though the love of my life is black) fight amongst themselves.

That is sarcasm, This is PATHETIC AND BLATANT RACE BATING!!!

The Love of my life, who is NOT African American, yet is black, would be a Black tornado of oppression requiring me to start the car everytime one of obama’s automatons acted out and called anyone anything.

BTW The love of my life is black, just ask anyone who knows me and has seen her. She’s so black she’s damn near blue, and I’m so white, I need to wear a hat to keep low flying plains from being destracted and thinking I’m a beacon.

So notifcation. EFF YOU RACE BATERS!!! and EFF YOU DEMOCRATS, and EFF you retarded media who call People who ACTUALLY live in Africa without American Citizenship (norah o’donell) “african americans.”

NORA! They aren’t African Americans. They are BLACK africans you effing retard.

    FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

The was even an Aboriginal protest in Australia where Norah called the black protesters “affrican american.”

First The aboriginal protesters are Not American, and they aren’t effing African.

    EFFING PC BULLSHIT!!!

Someone stab that woman in the face.
