Bad News For Mitt: NBC Reports 3 Romney Advisers Met 12 Times With Obama Officials To Help Craft ObamaCare

There is one reason, and one reason only, grass-roots conservatives are rejecting Romney’s candidacy for President, and it has nothing to do with his religion. It’s all about RomneyCare, and this report of collusion between his own advisers and the White House does not in any way bolster his claims that he he was always against a “one size fits all” health care plan.

Via Weasel Zippers, *anybody but this guy:

(NBC News) – Newly obtained White House records provide fresh details on how senior Obama administration officials used Mitt Romney’s landmark health-care law in Massachusetts as a model for the new federal law, including recruiting some of Romney’s own health care advisers and experts to help craft the act now derided by Republicans as “Obamacare.”

The records, gleaned from White House visitor logs reviewed by NBC News, show that senior White House officials had a dozen meetings in 2009 with three health-care advisers and experts who helped shape the health care reform law signed by Romney in 2006, when the Republican presidential candidate was governor of Massachusetts. One of those meetings, on July 20, 2009, was in the Oval Office and presided over by President Barack Obama, the records show.

“The White House wanted to lean a lot on what we’d done in Massachusetts,” said Jon Gruber, an MIT economist who advised the Romney administration on health care and who attended five meetings at the Obama White House in 2009, including the meeting with the president. “They really wanted to know how we can take that same approach we used in Massachusetts and turn that into a national model.”

*Of course I reserve the right to totally change my mind should he somehow manage to win the nomination…in which case the refrain changes to “Anyone but Obama.”

  1. Well, Rush is positing on his show, today, that the WH wants to run against Mitt because he’s seen as weakest with the base, which is certainly true. But if they think that would effect turnout they may want to think again. I’d walk across broken glass to vote for Romney against Obama, and I know I’m not the only one.

  2. Grass roots conservatives may oppose Romney against other primary runners, but almost all of them will support Romney against Obama in 2012. It’s not because they like him, but because they would support any Republicn against Obama. Forget ideological purity; the goal is to GET OBAMA OUT before he destroys the economy and leaves a Supreme Court loaded with Elena Kagans for decades to come.

  4. Yes ideological purity can be a real sticker for some, but think of this:

In 2008 Mr. Obama comforted everyone by soothing them with the refrain of “Hope and Change.” When pressed about what those meant he either told the people they didn’t understand (understand what? He wouldn’t say) or were deliberately twisting his rhetoric. I’ve heard the same from Mitt, both empty platitudes and vaporous responses.

Seems to me the onliest difference between Obama and Romney that counts is that Mitt will get us to our workers’ utopia a little slower, but it will get there.

Would I vote for Romney? Under severe protest because his was the name opposite Obama on the ballot, but I will do whatever I can to see that this politician (and I use the term very advisedly and very derogatorily) is not the choice of the Republicans next year.
