Monday Morning Ketch-Up – Univision’s Fast and Furious Coverage – Holder’s Black Radical College Days…

These are biggest stories from the past few days you perhaps didn’t read because you were busy having a life…

ABC Univision: Fast and Furious Scandal: New Details Emerge on How the U.S. Government Armed Mexican Drug Cartels:

Pools Of Blood On The Streets Of Villas De Salvarcar After A Massacre In Which Operation Fast And Furious Guns Were Allegedly Used.

On January 30, 2010, a commando of at least 20 hit men parked themselves outside a birthday party of high school and college students in Villas de Salvarcar, Ciudad Juarez. Near midnight, the assassins, later identified as hired guns for the Mexican cartel La Linea, broke into a one-story house and opened fire on a gathering of nearly 60 teenagers. Outside, lookouts gunned down a screaming neighbor and several students who had managed to escape. Fourteen young men and women were killed, and 12 more were wounded before the hit men finally fled.

Indirectly, the United States government played a role in the massacre by supplying some of the firearms used by the cartel murderers. Three of the high caliber weapons fired that night in Villas de Salvarcar were linked to a gun tracing operation run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), according to a Mexican army document obtained exclusively by Univision News.

Univision News identified a total of 57 more previously unreported firearms that were bought by straw purchasers monitored by ATF during Operation Fast and Furious, and then recovered in Mexico in sites related to murders, kidnappings, and at least one other massacre.

As part of Operation Fast and Furious, ATF allowed 1,961 guns to “walk” out of the U.S. in an effort to identify the high profile cartel leaders who received them. The agency eventually lost track of the weapons, and they often ended up in the hands of Mexican hit men , including those who ordered and carried out the attack on Salvarcar and El Aliviane, a rehabilitation center in Ciudad Juarez where 18 young men were killed on September 2, 2009.

In Mexico, the timing of the operation coincided with an upsurge of violence in the war among the country’s strongest cartels. In 2009, the northern Mexican states served as a battlefield for the Sinaloa and Juarez drug trafficking organizations, and as expansion territory for the increasingly powerful Zetas. According to documents obtained by Univision News, from October of that year to the end of 2010, nearly 175 weapons from Operation Fast and Furious inadvertently armed the various warring factions across northern Mexico.

“Inadvertently”? That was generous of them. Oh, and the MSM’s reaction to this? “Bush did it, too!”

Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan agrees with presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s call for Attorney General Eric Holder to resign, or for President Barack Obama to fire him, over Operation Fast and Furious, a Ryan spokesman told The Daily Caller.

“The congressman agrees with the governor,” Ryan spokesman Brendan Buck told TheDC on Sunday, referring to Mitt Romney’s call for Holder’s resignation or termination over the gunwalking scandal last December.

“Either Mr. Holder himself should resign, or the president should ask for his resignation or remove him,” Romney said in December 2011. “It’s unacceptable for him to continue in that position now given the fact that he has misled Congress and entirely botched the investigation of the Fast and Furious program.”

Ryan’s call for Holder’s ouster over Fast and Furious comes a day after he told a sportsmen’s group that gun owners should be worried about Obama trying to infringe on their Second Amendment rights if he is re-elected. Speaking about Fast and Furious specifically, Ryan said at the Saturday event that such an operation “would never occur under a Romney-Ryan administration,” according to CBS News,

Ryan now becomes the 131st House GOP member to demand Holder’s resignation over the scandal.

We’re seeing the ugly fruits of the Obama foreign policy unravel around the world on our TV screens.“

Mitt Romney: A New Course for the Middle East:

Disturbing developments are sweeping across the greater Middle East. In Syria, tens of thousands of innocent people have been slaughtered. In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood has come to power, and the country’s peace treaty with Israel hangs in the balance. In Libya, our ambassador was murdered in a terrorist attack. U.S. embassies throughout the region have been stormed in violent protests. And in Iran, the ayatollahs continue to move full tilt toward nuclear-weapons capability, all the while promising to annihilate Israel.

These developments are not, as President Obama says, mere “bumps in the road.” They are major issues that put our security at risk.

Yet amid this upheaval, our country seems to be at the mercy of events rather than shaping them. We’re not moving them in a direction that protects our people or our allies.

And that’s dangerous. If the Middle East descends into chaos, if Iran moves toward nuclear breakout, or if Israel’s security is compromised, America could be pulled into the maelstrom.

We still have time to address these threats, but it will require a new strategy toward the Middle East.

The Daily Caller: As college student, Eric Holder participated in ‘armed’ takeover of former Columbia University ROTC office:

As a freshman at Columbia University in 1970, future Attorney General Eric Holder participated in a five-day occupation of an abandoned Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) headquarters with a group of black students later described by the university’s Black Students’ Organization as “armed,” The Daily Caller has learned.

Department of Justice spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler has not responded to questions from The Daily Caller about whether Holder himself was armed — and if so, with what sort of weapon.

Holder was then among the leaders of the Student Afro-American Society (SAAS), which demanded that the former ROTC office be renamed the “Malcolm X Lounge.” The change, the group insisted, was to be made “in honor of a man who recognized the importance of territory as a basis for nationhood.”

Black radicals from the same group also occupied the office of Dean of Freshman Henry Coleman until their demands were met. Holder has publicly acknowledged being a part of that action.

The details of the student-led occupation, including the claim that the raiders were “armed,” come from a deleted Web page of the Black Students’ Organization (BSO) at Columbia, a successor group to the SAAS. Contemporary newspaper accounts in The Columbia Daily Spectator, a student newspaper, did not mention weapons.

Libs all across America just collectively intoned: “Awesssoooome!”

Defense contractor layoffs due to sequestration cuts (that Obama is pictured above announcing in January of this year) are looming January 2, 2013. This means that federal law will require those companies to issue thousands of “you’re out of a job” notices mere days before the November election. If you’re the Obama administration this makes you more nervous than watching Joe Biden start to talk about Dunkin’ Donuts. What to do? Simple — ask the contractors to ignore the law and promise them that taxpayers will cover possible fines and extra costs associated with any subsequent non-compliance judgments…

As Obama’s lies about Libya become increasingly clear, the latest strategy is to feign outrage that Obama would have dared to lie about his most disastrous foreign policy debacle during the middle of an election. They’re actually more “offended” by people asking questions that having our ambassador murdered and dragged through the streets.

How much do you want to wager this fiascoisn’t even mentioned at Wednesday’s debate?“In the days after, that was not clear,” he said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday. “And so, you know, this is obviously was a very, very fast-moving period of time.”

The attack in Libya claimed the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Plouffe called it is “preposterous and really offensive” to suggest that President Obama couched his response and was reluctant to label the event a terrorist attack with al Qaeda links because he has said that the group has been defeated.

Yeah – the regime’s had to recycle that “preposterous and really offensive” line a few times for obvious reasons. (See- Holder, “Fast and Furious”.) If they don’t like being accused of “preposterous and really offensive” things maybe they should stop doing “preposterous and really offensive” things.

The Lonely Conservative: Hugo Chavez Endorses President Obama:

Venezuela’s socialist dictator gave President Obama his stamp of approval earlier today. In a televised interview he said he would vote for Obama, and went on to say he thought Obama would do the same for him if he was able.

“If I were American, I’d vote for Obama,” Chavez said in a televised interview that aired Sunday, according to the Associated Press.

Isn’t that special? El Presidente for Life also thinks that if Obama lived in Venezuela, “he’d vote for Chavez,” too. And of course, he’s right.

Reaction from libs: “Oh come on! Preezy can’t help it that he’s so popular,  he’s loved by all – friend and foe alike!”

When the large tea party groups held their rallies in Washington, while there was some surprise there was very little worry on the left or the media. After all annually the March For Life protests was (and still is) the largest protest in Washington and the MSM has successfully ignored its numbers to the point where the hundreds of thousands of people who participate might as well be invisible. The left was sure they could count on the MSM to downplay the numbers and effect of these crowd.

But something different happened when the tea party folks made it home. Something the left did not suspect.

Our friends from the left, so used to their own paid protesters and rent-a-mobs, assumed that once there was a picture for the media to see people would simply fade away until the next media opt.

Then never imagined that without the pay from a large organization that people might actually get involved.

With Scott Brown’s victor in January of 2010 came the first actual shock to the left, the idea that there might be something going on here. 10 months later the results of the house elections gave the left another huge shock. 63 seats worth of shock.

In Massachusetts the left woke up in time for the election. The hand that they had kept behind their back because it wasn’t needed was brought out. The left and the union had people all over the state, making sure the Bay State remained solidly in the “D” Column.

The left breathed a huge sigh of relief in the state figuring this was the high water mark for the right.

Then came the official loss of an electoral seat, then came the retirement of Barney Frank,

and then came people like Bonnie Johnson a tea party activist who started delivering some startling news concerning the law in Massachusetts:

Every January Massachusetts Cities and town send out a city/town census to every residence. It lists the registered voters in the dwelling and how they are registered. I’ve filled it out every year without a thought, not noticing the warnings on the form if it is not done.

I had filled out the form for years not thinking a word about not realizing its significance

If the form is not returned the people on them are marked as an “inactive” voter. By law an “inactive” voter who attempts to vote must fill out and sign a form and provide proof of both residence and identity to be able to vote.

Joel Pollak, Big Government: Romney’s Challenge: He Is Already the Incumbent:

Mitt Romney is about as close to defeating President Barack Obama as any Republican could have hoped to be. The polls–if you believe them–show him slightly or significantly behind, but within striking distance. The challenge he faces is unique: he is acting, and is being treated as, the incumbent rather than the insurgent. In effect, “President” Romney has been in office since mid-August, with none of the power but all of the responsibility.

It was President Romney, not Obama, who set aside time to visit victims of Hurricane Isaac. It was President Romney, not Obama, who reacted swiftly to the attacks on our embassies by standing up for American freedom. It was President Romney, not Obama, who took on the entitlements crisis head-on by adopting many of Paul Ryan’s ideas. It was President Romney, not Obama, who laid out a practical plan for the housing crisis.

The media have also treated Romney as the incumbent, pouncing on every word and gesture, seizing on every mistake and inventing errors where none exist. Romney’s so-called “gaffes” have one thing in common: they are all statements of fact. He is being held to a presidential standard–for presidents should know better than to tell all–while Obama’s outright lies to the nation (on Libya, the debt, etc.) are ignored by the media.

Obama’s failures as the actual incumbent are also passed over–or spun into positives. We reached 2,000 dead in Afghanistan? Hey, Obama “ended the war.” Unemployment still above 8 percent? Oh, that jobs report was “better than expected.” We were attacked by Al Qaeda on 9/11, and Obama lied about it? Don’t worry, “bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive.” Growth down to 1.3%? Say–“No one could have done it better.”

Seton Motley, Big Government: The Obama Phone: Just Another Part of the Welfare-State Empire:

President Obama has exploded the welfare rolls – food stamps, unemployment (in large part by weakening the work requirement), Social Security disability, etc.  And adding people to these programs triggers their eligibility for a panoply of others.

Like Lifeline – which gives free cell phones and free service to, really, just about anyone.

(Democrat) Senator Claire McCaskill…—a millionaire many times over—could apply for a free cell phone, complete with monthly service, paid for by the federal government. From what McCaskill could tell, “you just had to check the box” saying you met the income requirements, submit the form, and collect the phone….

Like just about every other government program – it’s run phenomenally well.

A 2011 audit found that 269,000 wireless Lifeline subscribers were receiving free phones and monthly service from two or more carriers. Several websites have been created to promote “free” government cell phones, including the ”The Obama Cell Phone” website at ObamaPhone.net.

Like just about every other government program – it has grown exponentially under President Obama.

In 2008, there were 7.1 million Lifeline accounts nationwide. There are 12.5 million today….

(T)he program has swelled from $772 million in 2008 to $1.6 billion.

And that’s only just getting warmed up.

(Lifeline spending) would reach $3.3 billion by 2014 absent major reforms.

And Lifeline is but a part of the gi-normous boondoggle that is the Universal Service Fund (USF).  Is your cell phone bill ridiculous?  Check the taxes:

As of the third quarter of 2012, the USF fee, which changes quarterly, equals 15.7 percent of a telecom company’s interstate and end-user revenues….
