Flight 93 Memorial Blogburst #5

Lying about the 44 blocks

When Tom Burnett Sr. came out against the Flight 93 Memorial, the press asked architect Paul Murdoch if there were really going to be 44 inscribed translucent blocks emplaced along the flight path (equaling the number of passengers, crew, AND terrorists). Murdoch acknowledged 43 of the blocks, but denied knowing about a 44th:

[T]here are 40 inscribed marble panels listing the names of the passengers and crew at the gateway to the Sacred Ground, where their remains still rest. There is then an opening in the wall, Mr. Murdoch said, and three additional panels, which would include the date, Sept. 11, 2001.

“Where the other one is being fabricated, I don’t know,” he said.

Yes he does. Paul Murdoch is fully aware of the large dedicatory glass block at the end of the Entry Portal Walkway:

44th glass block, at end of Entry Portal Walkway

Man and child stand in front of the 44th block, which forms the railing at the end of the Entry Portal Walkway. The glass block will be inscribed: “A field of honor forever.” This Walkway provides visitors with their first view of the inside of the giant crescent. (From the Entry Portal page of the original design PDFs. Click pic for wider view.)

The flight path

The Entry Portal Walkway is built along the flight path. It signifies, in Paul Murdoch’s own description, the terrorists breaking the circle and turning it into a giant crescent. The flight path then continues down to the crash site, which sits in the middle of the mouth of the giant crescent (in roughly the position of the star on an Islamic crescent and star flag).

Just before the impact point is the Memorial Wall, also built along the flight path. This two part wall is where the other 43 blocks will be placed (the ones described by Paul Murdoch above):

Memorial Wall with 43 glass blocks emplaced

The forty translucent blocks that run horizontally through the left hand section of wall (closest to the impact crater) will be inscribed with the names of the forty murdered heroes. The three on the right will be inscribed with the 9/11 date. (From the Sacred Ground Plaza page of the original design PDF’s. Click pic for larger image. The alternating white and gray depicts the zig zag layout of the translucent blocks.)

Challenged by the father of one of our murdered heroes, Murdoch told a desperate lie, feigning ignorance of one of the most prominent features of his own design: the huge glass block that dedicates the entire site. This should have been the end of his hijack attempt, but Murdoch’s deception was abetted by both the Memorial Project and the press.

The abettors

“That has been disproved so many times,” said Bill Hayworth, the Memorial Project’s PR flack, when asked about the 44 blocks. Would it have been too much for reporters to ask for this proof?

In fact Murdoch is the first one to ever even deny that there are 44 glass blocks on the flight path. The only earlier Memorial Project statement about the 44 blocks was from Project Manager Jeff Reinbold, who told Alec Rawls in an April 2006 conference call that the giant glass block can’t be counted with the small glass blocks because it is bigger: “If we are going to count the big glass block with the small glass blocks,” he said, “then we have to count the windows in the visitor center too.” (Crescent of Betrayal, download 3, p. 146.)

“The windows in the visitor center are not on the flight path,” Rawls replied. He never said they were all the same size, and he never said there are no other panes of glass in the Memorial. Reinbold’s silly dodges do not contradict Rawls’ 44 glass blocks claim in any way.

The press was also in on the deception. Kecia Bal, the reporter who quoted Hayworth’s dismissal of the 44 blocks claim had already verified the block count for herself. Mr. Rawls had earlier sent her close ups of all 44. She responded with a request for copies of the original design PDFs, so she could check the veracity of these close-ups for herself.

When Bal quoted Hayworth, she knew he was wrong, and allowed him to mislead the public by suppressing her own fact checking of the 44 blocks. People can think that the 44 blocks are innocuous if they want, but lying about the block count certainly is not innocuous. Similarly for many the other lies that are being told in defense of the crescent design.

Memorial Project members insist that it is just coincidence that a person facing directly into the giant crescent will be facing almost exactly at Mecca, but that isn’t what they are telling the public. They are telling the newspapers that the Mecca-orientation claim is false, while acknowledging amongst themselves that the Mecca orientation is real.

Again and again Murdoch, the Memorial Project and the press are lying in concert to cover up the facts of the design. Some people will be unsure what to make of the many suspicious features of the crescent design but no one should doubt the need to expose and condemn those who lie about the facts.

So what can we do? Write, phone or fax the memorial project.

Be respectful, use your own words, but clearly send the message that you agree with Tom Burnett, Sr., that they should respect his wishes that his son’s name should be kept off the memorial, and that a more appropriate memorial should be constructed on the crash site; one that doesn’t memorialize the terrorists because in Flight 93 National Memorial Act, Pub. L. No. 107-226, the purpose of the memorial is spelled out: it is to honor the passengers and crew of the flight, and the last section of the law excludes the terrorists from the definition of passengers and crew.

S.F. Performance Artist/Terrorist/Clown Booked On 5 Felony Charges

21298329-ff9a-455b-a0ad-6494b362fdec_ms.jpeg

Did militant atheism just get a little bit more militant?

Terrorism, San Francisco Style:

A San Francisco performance artist, out on bail from charges that he prematurely torched the Burning Man festival’s namesake effigy in August, is back in jail for allegedly trying to set fire to the historic Grace Cathedral, police said Monday.

Paul Addis was taken into custody on the top steps of the cathedral around 11:40 p.m. Sunday with an ammunition belt of small explosives strapped around his waist, said San Francisco police spokesman Sgt. Steve Mannina.

This booking photo is from the August arrest. He posted the $25,632 bond for that charge, and was released from jail. This time around, he’s in much deeper doo doo:

Addis was booked on five felony charges attempted arson, possession of arson materials, possession of a destructive device, arson of a church, violation of a court order and a misdemeanor for altering a firearm, according to the sheriff’s department.

He remained in jail late Monday in lieu of $488,000 bail.

Let’s see him post that one.

No Bail For Goose Creek Pipebomb Suspect

Anybody hearing about this case in the MSM? I didn’t think so.

Michelle Malkin’s covering it, though:

On Friday, Judge Steven D. Merryday denied Goose Creek jihadi suspect Youssef Megahed’s bid for bail. He called him a flight risk and said he posed a danger to the community (hat tip: reader Lynne S.):

A University of South Florida student charged with transporting explosives will not be released on bail, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

In ruling that Youssef Megahed poses a flight risk and a danger to the community, Judge Steven D. Merryday overturned a Sept. 14 ruling by federal Magistrate Elizabeth Jenkins, who said the defendant could be released on $200,000 bail under strict conditions.

If you’re wondering why nary a word about this case is being covered in the MSM, Joel Mowbray from the Washington Times has some ideas:

When someone with seething anger toward U.S. soldiers drives a car filled with explosive materials two states away to a naval station, how is that not major news?

Contrast that to the coverage afforded the recent mistrial in the government’s case against Holy Land Foundation, an alleged front for Hamas.
The mistrial was spun by most mainstream media outlets as a major defeat to U.S. counterterrorism efforts. The New York Times dedicated over 1,200 words in a page-one story. The Washington Post was a bit more restrained, putting its coverage on page three, but the editorial page ran a stinging criticism by Georgetown Professor David Cole of supposed government overreach.

So how does this work exactly?

What is an appropriate terror related news story?

-American soldiers killed in Iraq or Afghanistan…..check.

-American soldiers accused of malfeasance…….check

-Defeat of counterterrorism efforts……. check.

-Success in counterterrorism efforts……crickets

-Capture of suspected terrorists…….crickets

-Major attack on US soil………check, check, and double check.

Four Year Old Golf Prodigy Battles Cancer

This story will knock your socks off.

(And probably make you cry a little, too).

The Battle On The Homefront

When we speak of “the war of ideas”, we are speaking figuratively in most cases. The “real” war is in Iraq and Afghanistan. But on American Campuses, today, there is a real battle going on, as demonstrated by the pictures and videos that came out of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, last week. Conservative students, and speakers have their work cut out for them against a dug in leftist-Islamist alliance made up of students and faculty. Last week’s event also brought in outside interested parties, from the political left to help protest the protest.

David Horowitz expressed his gratitude, and admiration for the conservative students who braved the hostile crowds, and put up with much abuse to put on these events at 114 college, and university campuses:

Our speakers showed admirable courage in their willingness to endure the slander and attacks they knew that challenging the left would entail. But it was our students who braved the fiercest attacks from members of their campus communities. I can’t say enough how proud I am of the students I met this week on the campuses I visited, and the many others who worked with us to make this week a success. Without their willingness to stand up and be counted, there would have been no Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week.

I know why they did it. I have been speaking on college campuses for twenty years and I have never seen conservative students so ready to engage in conflicts that would invite such vicious attacks, alienate their professors and cause them to lose friends because of the vicious intimidations of the campus left. The reason they have become willing to do this now is simple. It is because of the example set by their brothers and sisters in the frontlines in Iraq.

He relates the story of one particular student:

When counter-protesters closed down my speech at Emory University, I remembered my first appearance in there in 2002, during the controversy over reparations. I had been invited by the chair of the College Republicans, a student named Lyle Rubin. Lyle was a bookish, intellectual type, a political science major. Our meeting left me concerned that he would not be aggressive enough to handle the attacks that were already coming his way not only from students and professors, but from “Student Life” deans who were instigator of the protests that attended my visit.

A few years later, I received an email from Lyle which he had sent to a list of his friends informing us that he was in his second week at Marine boot camp and asking if we would write him keep his spirits up so that he could survive the ordeals for which his previous life had not prepared him. Our students see members of their generation ready to put their lives on the line to defend their freedoms. They understand that the war is being waged at home as well. And they are not going to let their brothers and sisters in uniform shoulder the burden alone.

A well deserved kudos to all those conservative students fighting the good fight.

Left-Wing Bully Steered Jury In Holy Land Foundation Case

Powerline has a reader, Donna D. , a self described “HLF trial watcher”, who has forwarded some interesting information to them from the Dallas Morning News. One jurer, William Neal has spoken publicly about the government’s case, and the jury’s deliberations. His words, and attitude have caused some to believe that the case should be tried again.

Neal has ardently attacked the government case as well as certain of his fellow jurors, whose education and insight he finds lacking. He sounds like he imbibes his news and attitude from National Public Radio. Donna dubs Neal “the bully juror.” The Dallas Morning News article quotes Neal’s interview (audio accessible at the link) with a local Dallas radio station. Donna writes:

The Dallas Morning News article cut out some Neal’s most revealing statements — see comparison excerpts below. If anyone doubts this case should be tried again, they just need to listen to this bully juror’s interviews. As Jason Trahan noted in his article, “Mr. Neal admitted he ran roughshod over most other panelists, whose intellectual abilities he has criticized.” Among other things, Neal has gone on record to say that he didn’t even think the defense needed to stand up and present a case; that the prosecution case was “a waste of time;” that the case was only about George Bush. “George Bush shut them down and he’s just trying to make sure that he gets that case closed.” He said the reason for the loss of the first juror after a week was the juror thought they were guilty and just did not want to argue about it any more. He is taking credit for having turned the jury away from their own opinions that the defendants were guilty.

You can read the interviews over at Powerline. If ever there was somebody who needed to be excused from a jury, this prick, Neal, was it.

The Golden Compass: Don’t Take Your Kids To This Movie

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness…”(Isa. 5:20).

What is Nicole Kidman thinking? Doesn’t she do any research about a project before she agrees to be a part of it? Is she a militant atheist, too? I don’t think so. Why would even a nominal Christian be a part of this???

The main villains in the series of books are the Magisterium, Cardinals, and the Pope and includes a heroine that is a young girl who sets out to kill God. The truly sick thing about the movie is that they have made it APPEAR as if it is an innocent film with exciting effects and a fairytale story. They have removed from the movie the appalling anti-Catholic/Christian themes from the book.

From Snopes (Yes, this is so God-awful people have apparently mistaken it for an urban legend):

The Golden Compass, a fantasy film starring Nicole Kidman that is scheduled to be released into theaters on 7 December 2007, has been drawing fire from concerned Christians. The film is based on Northern Lights (released in the U.S. as The Golden Compass), the first offering in Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy of children’s books, a series that follows the adventures of a streetwise girl who travels through multiple worlds populated by witches, armor-plated bears, and sinister ecclesiastical assassins to defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God.

These books appear to be the atheistic answer to the wonderful Narnia books by C.S. Lewis.

The Catholic League:

A film called “The Golden Compass” opens December 7. It is based on the first book of a trilogy titled His Dark Materials. The author of this children’s fantasy is Philip Pullman, a noted English atheist. It is his objective to bash Christianity and promote atheism. To kids. “The Golden Compass” is a film version of the book by that name, and it is being toned down so that Catholics, as well as Protestants, are not enraged.

The second book of the trilogy, The Subtle Knife, is more overt in its hatred of Christianity than the first book, and the third entry, The Amber Spyglass, is even more blatant. Because “The Golden Compass” is based on the least offensive of the three books, and because it is being further watered down for the big screen, some might wonder why parents should be wary of the film.

The Catholic League wants Christians to stay away from this movie precisely because it knows that the film is bait for the books: unsuspecting parents who take their children to see the movie may be impelled to buy the three books as a Christmas present. And no parent who wants to bring their children up in the faith will want any part of these books.

“The Golden Compass: Agenda Unmasked” is the Catholic League’s response. It provides information about the film, “The Golden Compass,” and details what book reviewers have said about Pullman’s books; a synopsis of his trilogy is also included.

Here’s Bill Donahue talking about it.

Do not be sucked in by this movie. It’s just the latest effort to undermine religion by militant atheists.

Do warn your children about this movie. The trailers are very enticing. My fifteen year old was looking forward to seeing the movie, and was planning on reading the books, until I told her what they were all about.

Please look into this. Nice Deb isn’t a fundie prude. I had no problem with the Harry Potter books. I have no problem with Halloween. But I can not stress enough, after looking further into it, how demonic these books are.

The message is the opposite of Pinocchio, which teaches that a person needs to practice moral restraint in order to be fully human. In Pleasure Island there are no rules, and Pinocchio and the lost boys can do whatever they want which leads them to sprout floppy ears and tails. Only a jackass thinks that a world without rules is a good idea. But there are a lot of jackasses out there.

In the last book of the trilogy, The Amber Spyglass, the heroine defeats the senile God, leading to ‘free will’ for all, or self-deification. What militant atheists don’t understand, or appreciate, is that God has already given us free will. They demonstrate that when they reject God, and embrace atheism. God doesn’t want to force himself on anyone; he wants to be chosen freely. But that’s not good enough for the militant atheists. They want to force their disbelief down our throats. They believe in free choice for everything but God.

Throughout his trilogy, Pullman repeatedly emphasizes the goodness of physical life. (IfyouknowwhatImeanandIthinkyoudo).

Christians do that too, but of course within certain boundaries. No such boundaries, here. Free will means free whatever you want, whenever you want it. No holds barred. Is this a message you want your teenagers to hear?

Here’s some interesting background on New Line studio boss, Robert Shaye.

UPDATE (Nov. 13):

A lot of people are finding this post by googling “Golden Compass Hoax”.

Where’s the hoax, folks?

Seriously, I wish it was a hoax.

UPDATE ( November 26):

Whether Pulman is a militant atheist or a militant agnostic is up for debate, now that he’s backtracking as the movie is about to be released. He has most certainly characterized himself as an atheist:

He told an Oxford literary conference in August 2000: ‘We’re used to the Kingdom of Heaven; but you can tell from the genera thrust of the book that I’m of the devil’s party, like Milton. And I think it’s time we thought about a republic of Heaven instead of the Kingdom of Heaven. The King is dead. That’s to say I believe the King is dead. I’m an atheist.

Virtually everyone who writes about him, characterizes him as an atheist, but that’s frankly neither here nor there. What is undeniable is that he’s profoundly anti-Christian. His own words:

* What I fear and deplore in the ‘faith school’ camp is their desire to close argument down and put some things beyond question or debate. It’s vital to get clear in young minds what is a faith position and what is not – so that, for instance, they won’t be taken in by religious people claiming that science is a faith position no different in kind from Christianity.

*“I am happy to support you and argue for your aims, and pour ridicule on faith schools and the teaching of creationism and pester the BBC to open up Thought for the Day…

Peter Hitchens on Pulman:

*In his worlds, the Church is wicked, cruel and child-hating; priests are sinister, murderous or drunk. Political correctness creeps in leadenly. There is a brave African king and a pair of apparently homosexual angels. The one religious character who turns out to be benevolent is that liberal favourite, an ex-nun who has renounced her vows and lost her faith.

His stated objective is to “undermine the basis for Christian belief”. This is no secret. It’s no hoax. Those are his own words.

Brent Bozell has more with The Christmas Crushing Movie.

Tim Graham at Newsbusters is covering this story, too: Newsweek Writer Enjoys The Atheist Denouncing The Conservative ‘Nitwit’.

Nearly every commenter at Newsbusters made the same point, namely:

Notice how atheists like Pulman love to pick on Christians, but are strangely silent when it comes to Islam?

Here’s an excellent review of the film from NRO’s Gina R. Dalfonzo.

******************************************************************************

If you want to see a pro-Christian, pro-family, pro-life movie that slipped in under the radar, and has already won a “People’s Choice” award, Bella is the movie for you.

Brent Bozell says preview audiences consistently gave it standing O’s.

This is its opening weekend.

UPDATE:

Rotten Tomatoes’ critics give Bella a 38% fresh rating.

Rotten Tomatoes’ users give it a 94% fresh rating.

Here’s what one savvy user wrote:

Bella is a winner. The critics are doing what the critics do. When they get uncomfortable that they are losing control, they go into tomato throwing mode. Just like at the Toronto Film Festival. The critics demonstrated their lack of integrity when they shrugged it off and they demonstrated their irrelevance when Bella won the coveted People’s Choice Award.

This is a movie with depth.

UPDATE:

Good news.

Looks like Bella is beating all of the anti-war films at the box office.

It’s also now playing everywhere!

UPDATE (November 29):

Looks like The Golden Compass is going to have some competition this holiday season.

Disney’s Enchanted is already getting great reviews.

Thanks to Retired Geezer.

Iraqi Soldiers Collect $1000 For Victims Of CA Wildfires

Feel good story of the week you won’t see in the MSM:

Members of the Iraqi Army in Besmaya collected $1000 in donations for the victims of the San Diego wildfires to support Besmaya’s San Diego residents.

The money was collected from Iraqi officers and enlisted soldiers in Besmaya. In a speech given during the presentation, Col. Abbass stated that he and the Iraqi soldiers were connected with the American people in many ways, and they will not forget the help that the American government has given the Iraqi people. Abbass was honored to participate by sending a simple fund of $1,000 to the American people in San Diego, to lower the suffering felt by the tragedy.

Richard S. Lowery from Op For says:

Here is an example of Iraqi charity and gratitude which touched my soul. Imagine how incredibly generous these soldiers are. They have little to support their own families. It’s not enough that they are fighting daily to bring peace to their country. They are actually reaching out to help unfortunate Americans.

Edwards’ Campaign Tries To Kill UNC Video Story

A UNC Journalism student’s video about John Edwards’ campaign headquarters apparently ruffled the feathers of some top level staffers of Edwards’ campaign.

Associate Professor C.A. Tuggle said two top staffers for the former North Carolina senator demanded that the school drop the segment from the student-run television program “Carolina Week.” They also asked to have the video removed from the YouTube Web site.

Tuggle said they threatened to cut off access to Edwards for UNC student reporters and other student groups if the piece aired.

Republicans are the ones who are supposed to be the Fascists, remember.

“My gosh, what are they thinking?” Tuggle said. “They’re spending this much time and effort on a student newscast that has about 2,000 viewers? They’re turning a molehill into a mountain.”

The innocuous video by graduate student Carla Babb questions the location of Edwards’ choice of the posh Southern Village Shopping Center for his campaign headquarters, when he is Mr. “Two Americas”. (My words). The issue had been discussed recently in the student newspaper, The Daily Tarheel.

In the video, James Edward Dillard, a columnist for The Daily Tar Heel, says that the location conflicts with Edwards’ campaign goal of reducing poverty in America.

“To pick that place as your campaign center, when you’re going to be the man who advocates on behalf of the poor, I just think, why not turn the media’s attention to somewhere where there are huge, huge problems,” Dillard said.

The piece was posted on YouTube before the broadcast in order to meet the deadline for an MTV “Choose or Lose” news contest.

Despite the complaints, Tuggle said the piece will air as scheduled on Monday and will remain on YouTube here: the video.

The Edwards campaign would not answer questions about the incident.

I don’t know what the big deal is. Everyone already knows what a ridiculous phony Edwards is.

Don’t they?

Quote Of The Week

Ann Coulter on Islamofascist Awareness Week:

If liberals want to face real fascism, try showing up on a college campus and denouncing fascism.

Let’s review some of the weeks highlights:

Monday:

Nonie Darwish speaks at Berkeley, and is constantly heckled and interrupted. Brenda Walker from VDARE, was there:

Even more alarming than the crazy ideas (not new on campus) was the level of bug-eyed hysteria. Many of the troublemakers were in such a state of agitated delirium that they appeared incapable of applying reason to ideas. Instead, they felt a compulsion to shriek insults at a middle-aged woman who, unlike them, has actually lived in an oppressive society. The deranged heckler chorus looked like they needed cult deprogramming.

Sadly, truly free speech exists today on the Berkeley campus only for Stalinist ideology.

Tuesday:

National Project To Defend Dissent & Critical Thinking In Academia dispatch the Raging Grannies, (or as I like to call them: Commies Who Like To Drown Out Critically Thinking Conservatives Dissenting from the Liberal Monopoly On Campus) show up for Ann Coulter’s speech at Stanford.

They embarrass themselves by singing horrid, commie songs to the tune of nursery rhymes like all lefty battle-axes do.

Unruly crowd harrasses Rick Santorum at Penn State.

Wednesday:

David Horowitz forced off the stage by leftist Brownshirts

The booing started when David Horowitz walked on the stage and the interruptions lasted until the talk was cancelled.

Nice job, Emory!
It was a dark day for Emory University.
The Emory crowd stood one by one with their backs to David Horowitz.
The communists fell into line- Horowitz just pegged them but was having a hard time with the interruptions that were constant.
There were continuous outbursts coming from this crowd.

Finally a member of the university security staff told the crowd to sit down or they would be forcibly escorted out of the building.

You know what happened next… The place erupted.
Video and more pictures to follow.
It was shameful.

Thursday:

A rowdy Islamist is booted from building at George Washington U.

A Democratic strategist defends the disruptive brownshirts who shut down Horowitz’s speech at Emory on The O’Reilly Factor.

Friday:

Things winding down…

Some small protests at Columbia this morning:

While the rally included some graduate and undergraduate students, the crowd consisted largely of local residents and activists from The World Can’t Wait, a nonprofit organization aimed at driving out the Bush administration.

As always, Coulter is right.

Muslims Against Sharia Supports Islamofascism Awareness Week

In an incredibly politically incorrect move, Muslims Against Sharia have offered their support of David Horowitz’s Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week:

Muslims Against Sharia congratulate David Horowitz FREEDOM CENTER and Mike Adams, Tammy Bruce, Phyllis Chesler, Ann Coulter, Nonie Darwish, Greg Davis, Stephen Gale, David Horowitz, Joe Kaufman, Michael Ledeen, Michael Medved, Alan Nathan, Cyrus Nowrasteh, Daphne Patai, Daniel Pipes, Dennis Prager, Luana Saghieh, Rick Santorum, Jonathan Schanzer, Christina Sommers, Robert Spencer, Brian Sussman, Ed Turzanski, Ibn Warraq and other speakers on the success of the Islamofascism Awareness Week.

They Awarded their 1st annual Dhimmi Award to the disruptive students/faculty of the University of California, Berkeley:

As a part of “Islamofascism Awareness Week”, Nonie Darwish spoke at U.C. Berkeley on October 22. As usual, Islamofascists and their Dhimmi supporters have shown their unwavering resolve to crush any type of dissent. One the members of the “Students for Justice in Palestine” claimed that the purpose of the “Islamofascism Awareness Week” is to reinvigorate anti-Muslim and anti-Arab campaign. Given the fact that the speaker, Nonie Darwish, is both Muslim by birth and Arab it truly shows the depth of brainwashing on campus.

You go, Muslims against Sharia!

Hospital And Police Wrangle Over State Senator’s Urine

For a change, there’s no guessing game as to the errant politician’s party affiliation:

Graham, D-Columbia, was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after police said Graham rear-ended a minivan near his south Columbia home.

According to an incident report released by police, Graham at first denied he had been drinking, then told an officer that he had “a few drinks.”

He was just being nuanced.

It seems Graham was not very cooperative with Donald Weaver, the officer, either. He steadfastly refused to do the necessary sobriety tests:

According to the report, at the scene of the crash Graham said his “paralyzation problem” made it impossible for him to undergo the sobriety tests. Specifically, he told police he could not move his eyes from side to side without moving his head.

Graham uses a wheelchair as a result of a car accident that left him partially paralyzed when he was 16.

The officer claims he asked Graham “no less than six times” whether he would submit to a breathalyzer. He finally agreed, but as Weaver was preparing the breathalyzer with a sterile mouthpiece, Graham changed his tune and said he needed medical assistance. He had a bruise on his arm.

Weaver then warned Graham that his statements constituted refusal under Missouri law, the report states. The license of a driver who refuses a Breathalyzer or other chemical test is automatically suspended for one year, according to a Missouri statute.

This is where it gets interesting…..Graham was then transported to University Hospital where Weaver attempted to collect a bag of Graham’s urine.

The report said Murray, emergency room doctor Scott Schultz, a nurse, a hospital administrator and two security guards attempted to prevent Weaver from taking the urine.

“Schultz was angry,” Weaver writes in the report. “His fists were clentched (sic) and the muscles in his forearms were flexed. His voice got progressively louder. He began pointing his finger at me as he continued to yell at me and order me to relinquish custody of my evidence.”

I can’t help but picture Schultz and Weaver engaging in a fierce tug of war over the sample, with “the evidence” sloshing all over both of them.

Weaver ended up winning the battle for the urine sample, and transported the prize to the police department for storage. The good officer was a man on a mission, so he returned to the hospital later with a warrant to collect a blood sample as well. Graham’s blood ended up being taken six hours after the police were dispatched to the accident scene.

A spokeswoman for University Hospital, said hospital workers did the right thing.

The Police Chief said his officer acted appropriately.

Boehm said the Police Department does not plan on pressing obstruction charges against Schultz.

The Missourian  tried to reach Schultz for an interview.

A man who answered the phone this morning at Schultz’s residence did not comment.

“I don’t know what you’re speaking about,” the man said before hanging up.

Hmmmmmm.

They were still waiting for the results of the samples when the article was written.

Quick Witted McCain

Jim Geraghty who writes the Campaign Spot at NRO spoke to John McCain about the “Bagdad Diarist”.

After Geraghty jogged his memory about the sordid affair, McCain said he was shocked that such a thing would occur at The New Republic.

McCain: (laughing) I’m shocked that gambling would be taking place in that establishment.

Good one.

Ace links to the Michael Yon post about Beauchamp’s decision to stay in an Iraq hot spot, and try to make things right.

You do have to give the guy credit where credit is due.

He must figure that he has to live with himself…
