Thursday Links: Dem Doom Edition

Oh my, there’s lot’s of fun stuff out there, today, so let’s get started.

I see someone had the good sense to do a screen-cap from the hilarious Video of Chris Matthews Wincing In Pain When Guest Says Dems Could Lose Senate:

The “thrill” is gone.

We’re hearing nothing but bad, bad tidings for Dems:

Drew at AoSHQ: New Official Kos Pollster: Obama Needs To Stay Away From Midterms, Even In Illinois

and

Bush More Popular Than Obama In Potential Swing House Districts?

How awkward. As we’ve been hearing all year, the Dems’ key 2010 election strategy is to run against Bush. As things are shaking out, that strategy is sure to backfire. But House Dems are doubling down…

Human Events opines “Blame Bush” Won’t Work With Voters:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent her poll-battered Democratic troops home for the August recess with talking-points pocket cards headlined “WE CAN’T GO BACK,” urging them to make George W. Bush’s tax cuts the overriding the focus of their campaign attacks on Republicans.

“Republicans are trying to take us back to the same failed Bush economic policies that cost us 8 million jobs,” says one of the talking point’s attack lines which mention Bush’s name repeatedly.
House Republican leaders, on the other hand, sent their members home this month with a “TREAD BOLDLY” campaign strategy paper, with pictures of Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Jack Kemp on its cover. It proposes repealing Obamacare, freeing employers from costly, job-killing government regulations and mandates, and cutting business taxes to spur new investment and expansion that will get the Great American Jobs Machine up and running again.

A former Democrat writes in the comments:

Acknowledging he is a fool, lightweight and moron, Obama has recently and repeatedly stated that the economy will not improve in the next two years. Gee, wonder why? Liberals please come forward and identify any President who previously stated his four years will only feature continuing decline. FDR? Nope. Truman? Nah. Clinton? Don’t remember hearing that one. At least Obama is now honest about his failure. He is begging us to throw him and the Democrats out of office. Let’s do the right thing in November and take the steering wheel back from the children !

Meanwhile, Karl Rove in The WSJ is trying to figure out what the hell Harry Reid is up to: Deconstructing Harry Reid.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid can say the darndest things. He certainly did last week when he proclaimed: “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican.” That must have thrilled his son, Rory, who’s trailing a Hispanic Republican, Judge Brian Sandoval, in the Nevada governor’s race by 16 points in the most recent Mason-Dixon poll.

Mr. Reid can also do inexplicable things, such as tentatively schedule a floor debate in September on extending the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts that expire on Jan. 1.

There are many ways this debate can hurt Democrats in November’s election, such as deepening their image as tax-and-spend liberals. There are only a few ways it could help, such as if they agreed with Republicans to keep the Bush tax cuts in place. Rightly sensing trouble and trying to protect vulnerable House Democrats from yet another unpopular vote, Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared that her chamber would take up the issue only if the Senate passed a bill first.

What else? Well…….

Thomas Lifson at American Thinker: Growing number of Americans believe Obama a Muslim

There is a lot of media handwringing this morning over a poll indicating 18 percent of the American public (up from 11 percent in March, 2009) believe President Obama is a Muslim.

Everybody should know that Obama is a devout Christian, right? His 20 years at ( former Muslim)Rev. Wright’s TUCC proves it… (I guess if you consider black liberation theology, Christianity and you believe that Obama was there for any reason other than political expediency).

What nobody on the left will acknowledge is that the systematic cover-up of Obama’s documents — his long form birth certificate, his academic records, his travel records (that curious trip to Pakistan while a college student that nobody in the press is the least bit curious about) — has led to deep skepticism about the biographical narrative ginned up by his campaign.

As J.R. Dunn notes today, a cumulative picture of the president has been built by his actions. His first interview was with an Arab television network, his first major speech was an address to the Muslim world in Cairo.

The most surprising thing about this new poll to me is the finding that only 34% of the American public believe Obama’s a Christian, even though he’s repeatedly talked about his Christian faith. In other words…most Americans think he’s been lying about his faith. That is profound.

I thought I was in the minority, there. I’ve always had him pegged as an atheist with an unseemly affinity toward Islam. My second guess would be Muslim. Last place – Christian. Let’s face it, he makes a very unconvincing Christian, for a number of reasons.

We know he lies through his teeth, constantly. He lied to the Pope’s face (about abortion) when he visited the Vatican. Alinsky radicals lie because ends justify the means. Radical Muslims lie because they’re permitted to lie to non Muslims, (taqiyya). Why would it be any great stretch to think he would lie about his religion?

See also Jack Cashill’s excellent piece: Understanding Obama’s Muslim Roots.

In a critical but overlooked scene in Dreams, when Soetoro asks his wife to meet some of “her own people” at the American oil company where he worked, she snaps at him, “They are not my people.”

Mom raised the young Obama to be wary of the “ugly Americans” in their midst. The only thing exceptional about America, she taught him, was Barry Obama himself.

His education as a Muslim during those formative years was both offset and compounded by his grooming as a secular humanist with a deeply ingrained contempt for his fellow Americans. This was a lesson reinforced at every step of his life and career: third world good, first world bad.

At the end of the day, it really does not matter which element of his education prevailed. As the last few weeks have shown, leftists and Muslims share one great transcendent passion, a contempt for traditional America.

Look to see Obama making appearances in Christian churches in the weeks to come. B.S. meters all across the country will be spinning.

UPDATE:

CNN: TRENDING: White House strikes back at ‘Muslim’ tag

“President Obama is a committed Christian, and his faith is an important part of his daily life,” Deputy White House Communications Director Jen Psaki told CNN. “He prays every day, he seeks a small circle of Christian pastors to give him spiritual advice and counseling, he even receives a daily devotional that he uses each morning. The President’s Christian faith is a part of who he is, but not a part of what the public or the media is focused on everyday.”

Psaki added that “the President’s strong Christian faith is what guides him through the challenges – a recovering economy, bringing troops home from Iraq, putting healthcare and financial reform implementation in place – but he doesn’t wear it on his sleeve.”

Obama’s latest spiritual adviser is another hyper-political liberation theology adherent.

Jim Wallis, according to Discover the Networks:

  • Activist preacher and editor of the leftwing Christian magazine Sojourners
  • Democratic Party operative
  • Apologist for communist atrocities in Cambodia and Vietnam
  • Dedicated foe of capitalism
  • Contends that Biblical scripture calls for large central government to aid the poor

Doesn’t exactly put anyone’s mind at ease.
