This dispute has been presented as a question of whether an Islamic center and mosque should be built in proximity to the scene of the worst act of Islamic terrorism — and the worst act of political violence — ever committed on U.S. soil. But at least as germane to the dispute is the question of whether these particular parties ought to be doing so. The fact that an apologist for terrorists and an associate of terrorist-allied organizations is proceeding with this provocation is indecent. We have thousands of mosques in the United States, and who knows how many Islamic cultural centers in New York City. We do not need this one, in this place, built by these people. We’re all stocked up on Hamas apologists, thanks very much.
The libertarians among us are wrong to take a blasé attitude toward this, asking, “If their permit applications are in order, why not?” Here is why not: because this is not just a zoning dispute. The World Trade Center is, in effect, the gravesite of 3,000 Americans who died at the hands of Islamist radicals, and to build a mosque on this site — particularly a mosque with Muslim Brotherhood connections — would be extraordinarily unseemly. We will not appeal to the official powers to use the machinery of government to stop this project. We appeal, instead, to the sense of decency of the American Muslim community, and to its patriotism.
Americans should make their displeasure with this project felt economically and socially: No contractor, construction company, or building-trades union that accepts a dime of the Cordoba Initiative’s money should be given a free pass—nobody who sells them so much as a nail, or a hammer to drive it in with. This is an occasion for boycotts and vigorous protests — and, above all, for bringing down a well-deserved shower of shame upon those involved with this project, and on those politicians who have meekly gone along with it. It is an indecent proposal and an intentional provocation.
I wish we still lived in an America where people recognized right from wrong, good from evil, and no self-respecting business would dishonor itself by profiting from this shameful desecration.
But we don’t. So the mosque will be built with the help of many useful idiots, Mayor Bloomberg front and center among them.

Jay makes some great points I did not know…. A building where Bill Ayers built bombs with the Weather Underground was deemed historically significant, but a building that was hit with the landing gear from one of the planes on 9/11 isn’t historically significant?

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), which is representing a New York City firefighter who survived the 9-11 terrorist attacks, said today’s vote by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission is deeply offensive to many of the victims and families of the 9-11 tragedy. By a vote of 9-to-0, the Commission, appointed by New York Mayor Bloomberg, failed to landmark a historic site near Ground Zero – a site where the landing gear of one of the hijacked planes from 9-11 crashed through the roof of the building. The vote bolsters plans to build a $100-million, 13-story Islamic mosque on what many consider to be sacred ground.
“The actions taken by the City of New York represent a blatant disregard for the city’s own procedures, while ignoring the fact that this is a historic and hallowed site that should not be destroyed to build an Islamic mosque,” said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ. “It has been clear from the beginning that the city has engaged in a rush to push this project through – ignoring proper procedure and ignoring a growing number of New Yorkers and Americans who don’t believe this site is the place to build a mosque. We’re poised to file legal action on behalf of our client to challenge this flawed decision and put a stop to this project.”

There’s nothing surprising, here…this clip simply confirms what we already knew. Everything we love about Palin, her Christian faith, large family, athleticism, and love of the outdoors, was/is held in disdain by elite libs like Couric.
CBS couldn’t find someone who wasn’t openly hostile to Palin to do that momentous interview? I remember studying the interviews that Couric (and ABC’s Charles Gibson) did with Obama, and comparing them to the ones they did with Palin. Obama was afforded the utmost respect while Palin had to endure barely concealed contempt.
The double standard has always been there for conservatives….but it was particularly egregious for the attractive, and outdoorsy Palin.
I suppose the fact that, two years later, Ariana Huffington is advising the media to “take Palin seriously” is progress.

What’s really crazy is this notion that somehow Obama has control over the keys to the car (country) and is not willing to give them back to the party he says doesn’t know how to drive. I’d say the party whose leader has to go into hiding during election season are the ones who don’t know how to drive.
