Ann Coulter In KC: Our 2 Smartest US Senators Are Now The Face Of The Republican Party (Video)

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending a luncheon hosted by KMBZ 98.1FM with commentator and columnist Ann Coulter at Union Station in Kansas City. Coulter, who is on a book tour for her latest book, Never Trust a Liberal Over 3 -Especially a Republican, sat down with KMBZ’s Scott Parks and took questions about her thoughts on the state of the Republican party in the wake of the government shut down and debt ceiling fight.

Coulter had a more positive view of the shut down debacle than most Republicans who are pretty sure they took the biggest PR hit. She contended that most Americans a few weeks ago didn’t know who Mike Lee and Ted Cruz (our two smartest Senators) were, but they are now the face of the Republican party.

And she delighted in the fact that the Republicans’ final offer to the Democrats before the government shut down was not to defund or even delay Obamacare, but just “you guys have to live under ObamaCare.”

“And that’s the reason the government shut down for the last ten days?!” She exclaimed. “Democrats said, No…no!!! Don’t make us live under ObamaCare!”

Please excuse the poor quality of the video. It was taken with my iphone from the back of the room. (The lunch was terrific, by the way – chicken with cheesy mashed potatoes and broccoli, with chocolate mousse for dessert.)

In the next segment, Coulter blamed changing demographics for Mitt Romney’s defeat in the 2012 election. She said that if this were the same country demographically as it was in 1980, Mitt Romney would have won by a landslide,.

Coulter painted a rosier picture for the GOP in the wake of the Shut-down/debt ceiling debacle than most Republicans would agree with. We may not have gotten anything we wanted, and Obama and his minions may be spiking the football but what a Pyrrhic victory for the Democrats – they get the Booby-Prize (my words) – ObamaCare which is looking more decrepit by the day. And Republicans put up a mighty fight with their small minority – 1/2 of 1 branch of government (as Ann noted) to defeat it. ObamaCare will become more despised with time, and Republicans will get the credit for trying hard to stop it.  Coulter said she was proud of Republicans for taking the stand they did.

  1. NiceDeb – do you think Coulter is back in our camp? In 2012 she was all about Christie, and always sided with the least conservative during the primaries. I know she does some of this to create controversy (and sell books), but last year she went too far. Is she one of us, or is she [a Karl Rove] always gravitating to the squishy middle?

  2. I think Coulter has always been in our camp. Read her books. We may not always agree with every single position she takes, but I know she wants what we want – to defeat Democrats. In 2012, she thought the best way to do that was with Chris Christie running. In hindsight, I think she was probably right. But since then, Christie’s done a lot to tee off conservatives, (including Coulter) and it would be a huge mistake for Republicans to go with him.

I don’t think she creates controversy to sell books. I think she does it to direct media attention to issues she wants in the spotlight. She’s done that brilliantly through the years.

If you read her latest book, you’d know how she feels about Karl Rove.
