Saturday Movie Matinee: The Values Voter Summit

I  posted Ted Cruz’s outstanding speech, yesterday. Other standout speakers at the Values Voters Summit in Washington DC  yesterday included Rand Paul who declared there’s a war raging against Christianity:

“From Boston to Zanzibar, there’s a worldwide war on Christianity,” the world’s most-practiced religion, he said Friday at the Values Voters Summit, an annual conservative gathering. The intensity of attacks is so high, he later added, that it’s “almost as if we lived in the Middle Ages,” a period that included the Crusades.

Today’s war is perpetrated by “a fanatical element of Islam,” Rand said, adding that most Muslims are not committed to violence against Christians. However, those who are number in the tens of millions, he said. And it falls upon Muslims themselves to take on their violent brothers.

“Some politicians say that this war on Christianity means that we must fight a large conventional war against all radical Islam. … This isn’t going to be fought with a conventional war, it’s going to require Islam to police Islam,” Paul said, imploring Muslims to embrace what he described as a more peaceful, enlightened past.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) at Values Voter Summit 2013:

Dr. Ben Carson explained why “your health care should be controlled by you and not the government” and why the pro-life movement is not a “war on women.” The pro-abortion movement is “a war on babies”, he declared.

Louie Gohmert tells Values Voter Summit, John McCain ‘supported Al Qaeda’:

At the Values Voter Summit earlier today, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) spoke about “some senator from Arizona” who, he contends, “supported Al Qaeda.” The thinly veiled reference to Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) was not lost on the crowd, which applauded as Rep. Gohmert berated “a guy who liked Gaddafi before he wanted to bomb him, a guy who liked Mubarak before he wanted him out, a guy that’s been to Syria and supported Al Qaeda and the rebels.”

Sen. McCain traveled to Syria in May and met with rebel leaders, and has repeatedly said that he doesn’t want the United States government to make deals with groups that support Islamic extremism. Earlier this month, the group that Mccain met with, the Northern Storm Brigade, was actually attacked by the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham, an Al Qaeda affiliate loyal to Ayman Zawahiri. Al Qaeda even nicknamed the group “the Shabiha of McCain” after the senator’s visit.

Rep. Allen West at Values Voter Summit 2013:

Mark Levin tells Values Voter Summit: ‘America is a blue state’ so change the Constitution:

Conservative radio host Mark Levin on Friday proposed changing the United States Constitution because he said “America is a blue state right now.” Levin told the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C that legislative efforts like President Barack Obama’s health care reform law meant that the country was facing “tyranny.” To fix the problem, he proposed that two-thirds of the states meet for a convention to pass amendments to the Constitution. “Now some of you come from blue states, I apologize that you’re in these blue states, I refuse to live in a dark blue state, but some of you live in dark blue states,” he told the audience. “And some of you are saying, ‘Well, this is great for those of you who are in purple states and red states.’ And my answer to you is this: America is blue state right now!”
