It’s shaping up to be a busy news day- so let’s get started…
Hot Air: Breaking: North Korea attacks South Korea
The 60-year old war on the Korean peninsula flared back to life today, perhaps briefly, or perhaps not. North Korea showered artillery fire on an island in the south, killing two South Korea Marines and prompting a return volley of fire. Seoul put its armed forces on alert while everyone waits to see whether Pyongyang has decided to restart the Korean War.

Michelle Malkin has been reporting on the Obama administration’s alarming land grabs all year. Here’s the latest: Another Obama stealth land grab: Salazar and the NCLS:
Quick review: In August, I told you about the “Great Outdoors Initiative” to lock up more open spaces through executive order. This came on top on top of a separate, property-usurping initiative exposed by GOP Rep. Robert Bishop and Sen. Jim DeMint earlier this spring. According to an internal, 21-page Obama administration memo, 17 energy-rich areas in 11 states have been targeted as potential federal “monuments.” The Obama War on the West is a War on Jobs that extends from land to sea based on politicized junk science by executive fiat and czar evasion.
The latest power grab comes via Interior Secretary Ken Salazar — the unchecked, unaccountable data doctor and loathsome cowboy — who has just unilaterally elevated a government landscape conservation system to “directorate” status with no congressional debate, no witnesses, no testimony, no public input.
The full secretarial order is here
Read Michelle’s full report. There is some good news…Bishop, the likely GOP chairman of the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands is ready to begin pushing back when Republicans take over the House next year.

Have you been watching the tear Bobby Jindal has been on, promoting his new book, Leadership and Crisis? He’s been lambasting Obama’s “lackadaisical” response to the Gulf oil spill with interesting stories about his personal interactions with the President about the crisis.
When Obama got off Air Force One to meet Governor Jindal on his first trip to the Gulf after the oil spill, what do you think was the first order of business on his mind?:
A. Ask the Governor for a current assessment of the situation.
B. Assure the Governor that the federal government is ready to cut through the red tape and give him all the help he needs.
C. Offer apologies for the Government’s slow reaction to the crisis.
D. Rake Jindal over the coals for “making him look bad”.
If you chose D, ding ding ding!
Jindal says after a second meeting, the President angrily slammed him again for “criticizing him in public”, which he says was the only way to get their attention.

Renew America: Is another Notre Dame scandal brewing?
A female student who attended St. Mary’s College committed suicide after she was allegedly sexually attacked by one of Notre Dame’s football players — and the university has seemingly swept it under the rug — according to a Nov. 21 story in the Chicago Tribune.
Click here to read the story.
Noted Catholic scholar Charles E. Rice, professor emeritus at Notre Dame Law School, has issued the following statement (slightly edited) in response to the Tribune story and the scandalous actions of Notre Dame’s president, Father John Jenkins, in recent times:

Washington times: EDITORIAL: TSA is a joke to al Qaeda, too
Groping nuns, kids and seniors won’t thwart terrorists
While the
Transportation Security Administration is groping for an answer to air safety,
al Qaeda is laughing. This week, the terror group publicly detailed its plans to circumvent the latest government security measures and bleed America to death.
The new edition of al Qaeda‘s glossy magazine, Inspire, discusses last month’s plot to down cargo planes with bombs hidden in printer ink cartridges, and a successful Sept. 3 UPS aircraft bombing in Dubai. These new techniques were born after underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab failed to detonate his explosive on Northwest flight 253 last Christmas. Since then, the terrorists say they “have been experimenting with ways to bring down airplanes. … We looked into X-ray scanners, full-body scanners, sniffing dogs and other aspects of security.”
The magazine includes technical details of how to construct weapons that will avoid X-ray and chemical sniffer detection, enabling other jihadist groups to try them out. An al Qaeda press release stated, “It is our plan to disseminate the idea to the mujahidin worldwide and to expand its deployment onto both civilian aircraft in the West as well as cargo aircraft.”
They’re laughing at us…

Byron York: Empty promises on health care will haunt Obama
Barack Obama is only halfway through his term, but it’s not too early to ask: What is the biggest whopper he has told as president? So far, the hands-down winner is:”No matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise to the American people. If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.”
Obama made that particular pledge in a speech to the American Medical Association in June 2009, but he said the same thing, with slight variations, dozens of times during the health care debate. And now, exactly eight months after he signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law, we’re seeing just how empty the president’s promise was.
The (not so) funny thing is, a lot of us knew he was lying…maybe most of us knew… but that didn’t stop him from saying it.
