Wilson, a Democrat from Miami, is known for having a hat for every outfit and every occasion. She’s probably more known for her trademark style than any piece of legislation she pushed or voted for, so it’s easy to understand why she would feel her identity is being stripped away.
“Hats are what I wear. People get excited when they see the hats. Once you get accustomed to it, it’s just me,” Wilson told the Miami Herald. “Some people wear wigs, or high heel shoes or big earrings or pins. This is just me.”
It looks like Ms. Wilson’s first fight in Congress is not going to be for her constituents, but well….for her hats.
The rule is “sexist”, she says.
Because as everyone knows, only women wear hats….or something.

President Obama today named AFL-CIO President Emeritus John Sweeney as a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. The award is presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
“The public-sector unions have pushed the entire labor movement to the left. The [SEIU] has embraced organizations with a New Left origin, such as ACORN and Cleveland’s Nine to Five, and has even set up its own gay and lesbian caucus. … The rise of these unions led to the elevation of SEIU’s boss, John Sweeney, to head of the labor federation. No George Meaney-style bread-and-butter unionist, Sweeney is an advocate of European-style democratic socialism. He has opened the AFL-CIO to participation by delegates openly linked to the Communist Party, which enthusiastically backed his ascent. The U.S. Communist Party [CPUSA] says it is now ‘in complete accord’ with the AFL-CIO’s program. ‘The radical shift in both leadership and policy is a very positive, even historic change,’ wrote CPUSA National Chairman Gus Hall in 1996 after the AFL-CIO convention.”
Sweeney is a card-carrying member of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the principal American affiliate of the Socialist International.
The 15 honorees this year include, Maya Angelou, Congressman John Lewis, President George H. W. Bush, and Chancellor Angela Merkel. The full list,here.
Those few pieces on Climategate which HAVE appeared in the MSM tend to have consisted of the various guilty parties trying to spin their way out of it. The disgraced, FOI-breaching, email-deleting, scientific-method-abusing Phil Jones of the University of East Anglia, for example, has granted tame interviews in Nature magazine and the Times presenting himself as a man far more sinned against than sinning. Michael Mann has been doing a similar auto-whitewash job in the US. But if you want to see an ecotard Houdini act at its most sublimely nuanced and slippery, I highly recommend this piece of sophistry from Mike Hulme in the Guardian.

The US civil Rights Commission is scheduled to approve the New Black Panther Case investigation report, today. Hans A. von Spakovsky has exclusive excerpts from the report at Pajamas Media. These last two paragraphs were of particular interest to me:
This report was scheduled to be approved on October 29. But former Pelosi aide Michael Yaki, one of the Democratic commissioners, walked out of that meeting to kill the quorum. He held a press conference in the Commission’s hallway denouncing the report, continuing his efforts to help the Obama administration cover up its wrongdoing at the Justice Department. Sources tell me Yaki is maneuvering behind the scenes to convince President Obama to appoint him as the new chairman of the Civil Rights Commission when the current chairman’s term expires in December. Yaki seems to believe that helping the Obama administration bury the report of the Civil Rights Commission will help achieve partisan goals.
Hopefully, enough of the other commissioners will be at the November 19 meeting to maintain a quorum even if Yaki goes through his usual delaying tactics. And this report is not necessarily the end of this investigation. The new incoming majority in the House of Representatives should take over the investigation of the Civil Rights Division and the New Black Panther case through its oversight function. The Justice Department will have a much harder time defying Congress the way it ignored the Commission on Civil Rights.
You may remember former the San Francisco lawyer, and Pelosi senior adviser, Yaki,as the contentiously critical liberal stalwart at the hearings. I think it’s safe to consider Yaki the new chairman of the Civil Rights Commission. Bleh.
