I’ve probably posted this one before, The Servant Song, by
Richard Gillard of New Zealand, a personal favorite of mine:
Lyrics:
Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant too
We are pilgrims on the journey
We are brothers on the road
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load
I will hold the Christ light for you
In the night time of your fear
I will hold my hand out to you
Speak the the peace you long to hear.
I will weep when you are weeping
When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we’ve seen this journey through.
When we sing to God in heaven
We shall find such harmony
Born to all we’ve known together
Of Christ’s love and agony
First stanza, fourth line is incorrect.
He says ..”.to let YOU be my servant too.”
We are asking to be eachothers servants so first he prays..” Will you let me be your sevant?”….then he prays for the grace for the humility to allow others to serve him…that is what we are as Christians as Church we are eachothers servants.
Will you let me be your servant?
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace to
Let YOU be MY servant too.

Too bad you had such beautiful music accompanied by such racially inflaming and conservative crap.

Our church sang this yesterday! Although it was new to some, it is one of my favorites, and fit beautifully with the tone of the service. THANK YOU!

Thank you for posting this! Minor comment on the lyrics after comparing with the video:
2nd verse, 1st 2 lines:
We are pilgrims on a journey
We are travelers on the road.
5th verse, 3rd line:
Borne of all we’ve known together

So happy to see this hymn! Almost 20 years ago my husband & I celebrated our silver annivarsary with a church wedding, renewing our original vows. Our then 19-year-old daughter sang this as a solo. To me, the words perfectly reflect the spirit of the traditional vows. We have a video recording that is one of my treasures. We may do it again in 2019 (50th ann.), still love it!

1st time viewed on Songs of Praise, Sunday 29/12/13. Truly wonderful and thought provoking, it made me look it up and save so I could listen again. So simple – So beautiful, it has touched my soul.

This was sung at our wedding in 1990 at my request by the family that introduced my husband and I. I agree that it embodies the spirit of our vows. I still love it and believe that we live it out every day.

Lovely arrangement of the hymn. I can’t find the sheet music online (only can find standard 4-part chorale-like version). Where can I find it? Thanks!
