Krauthamer On Obama’s SOTU Speech: No Pivot, “Tone Was Strained and Unctuous”

How thrilled the Democrats must be tonight, knowing that the President is refusing to pivot like Bill Clinton did in ’94-(hey, they didn’t have him, back  then, right?) So he’s doubling down on the very policies that are killing their electoral chances in the fall.

Here’s Alito shaking his head, and mouthing the words, “not true” during the campaign finance demagoguery, which is being called Alito’s “You lie” moment.

And ZZZZZZZZZ, I’m happy to see that I wasn’t the only one bored to tears.

Tonight the president engaged in demogoguery of the worst kind, when he claimed that last week’s Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. FEC, “open[ed] the floodgates for special interests — including foreign corporations — to spend without limit in our elections. Well I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities.”

He says, ‘This is either blithering ignorance of the law, or demogoguery of the worst kind”. I think it’s the second one. Really, Obama doesn’t seem to have an honest bone in his body.

FROM JUSTICE ALITO, a “you lie” moment? “POLITICO’s Kasie Hunt, who’s in the House chamber, reports that Justice Samuel Alito mouthed the words ‘not true’ when President Barack Obama criticized the Supreme Court’s campaign finance decision.” Drudge is calling Obama’s criticism “intimidation,” but apparently, they weren’t so intimidated. As I said before, Obama’s behavior wasn’t very Presidential, and it wasn’t very wise.

In the history of the State of the Union has any President ever called out the Supreme Court by name, and egged on the Congress to jeer a Supreme Court decision, while the Justices were seated politely before him surrounded by hundreds [of] Congressmen? To call upon the Congress to countermand (somehow) by statute a constitutional decision, indeed a decision applying the First Amendment? What can this possibly accomplish besides alienating Justice Kennedy who wrote the opinion being attacked. Contrary to what we heard during the last administration, the Court may certainly be the object of presidential criticism without posing any threat to its independence. But this was a truly shocking lack of decorum and disrespect towards the Supreme Court for which an apology is in order. A new tone indeed.

It was what we have come to expect from this President. I wonder what the polls are going to say in the coming days?

Tonight’s State of the Union address is the least important one since Richard Nixon’s in 1974. The State of the Union address was delivered 8 days ago by the voters of Massachusetts. They killed the centerpiece of Barack Obama’s presidency and without his health care plan, he is nothing.

There is nothing President Obama can say or do tonight that could save his presidency. It is over. He is through. It lasted exactly 365 days. The one year president.

The stench of political death permeates from him. Soon, he will be mocked as his irrelevancy becomes more and more apparent by the week, by the day and eventually by the hour.

Already George Soros has walked out on him.
