Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

We hear the whining every year, don’t we?…And not just from pimply faced teenagers, but from their parents, too: Aunt Nan’s going to be there? …Can’t waaaaaait….. For too many of us, the idea of breaking bread with some of our more annoying siblings/inlaws/aunts/uncles etc at our annual turkey-fests, can instill feelings of dread and revulsion.

So this cartoon is a good reminder that there are worse places we can be on Thanksgiving, and that we have a lot to be thankful for, including our troops, who make sacrifices that most of us can hardly imagine. While we’re here with our friends and family, chowing down on our Thanksgiving feasts, they’re  putting their lives on the line for us in faraway places like Afghanistan, (where some now say, there is little hope for success).

Keep our servicemen in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season.

Soldiers Angels says there are an estimated 190,000 US personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan in combat operations or in support of combat operations. You can help them show our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines that we haven’t forgotten them this holiday season by making a small donation at the link.

  2. There’s a company allied with Soldiers Angels:

    Wire A Cake
They’re based in Huntington Beach, but you can contact them from anywhere.

They make cakes that you can send to soldiers overseas. It takes from 10 to 14 (or so) days to get there, but when they do, they’re in great shape (it wasn’t easy). They can’t sent to ships, because of the ‘copter misses the ship, the package goes back to a warehouse where it may sit for months.

I’ve got a SSGT son-in-law going Over There in a month or so – I think he’ll get one of these.
