Harrowing!!!:Mother Fights Pitbull To Save Baby

This is one of the most horrifying dog attack stories, evah.

The mother, Angela Silva was in her garage, with her four month old baby in her arms, getting ready to clean out her car, when the pit bull from next door charged inside, lunging for the baby. Thinking quickly, she hid her son in the garbage bin, and tried to fight off the dog, but the determined beast wanted that baby, and knocked the garbage can over to get at the crying child.

At this point Silva did what any good mother would do, and got between the dog, and her baby. ‘Swisher’, the pit bull attacked Silva, clamping his jaws onto her arms, shredding through her flesh right to the bone.

“He just kept biting . . . and biting . . . and biting,” Silva, a 32-year-old special-education teacher, said Wednesday, tears filling her eyes.

Her screams attracted the attention of two contractors who were working on a house across the street. They ran over with their power tools whirring, and scared off the dog.

And so ended the scariest eight minutes of Silva’s life.

Finally responding to the cacophony, Charles Shelby, who lives next door in a rented house, came outside and called Swisher in. Swisher snapped to and promptly obeyed. Then a neighbor saw one of Shelby’s friends drive up in a red car, scoop up Swisher and zoom off. As of Wednesday evening, Swisher’s whereabouts remained unknown. Police are continuing to investigate and say that if the dog is found, he could be euthanized.

The low life neighbors are facing misdemeanor charges for not cooperating with police, and hiding evidence.

Meanwhile, Angela Silva is recuperating from her injuries and the terrifying ordeal.

She has about 50 staples and countless stitches all over both of her forearms, where she was bit down to the bone. She’s lost feeling in her fingers.

Ms. Silva understandably had a hard time sleeping that night.

“This was just so traumatic,” she said. “Every time I closed my eyes, I just thought about that dog.”

“If it weren’t for them, (the contractors) my baby and I would probably be dead,” Silva said.

But the dozen friends and relatives who gathered Wednesday at Silva’s home, bringing flowers and comfort, were patting her on the back, saying it was Silva, and her maternal instincts, that saved the day.

  1. I was “nipped” by a german shepherd (spelling? patty and KC are getting all grammary on me and stuff) Didn’t hurt one bit (yeah it was a police dog, very bizarre story) The situation got cleared up, and only then did I say, “I think the dog bit me.”

    “He didn’t effing bite you.”
    then I looked down, and there was a pretty fair bit of blood pooling on the ground under my left elbow, and when I touched the wound, my finger went into the wound, like IN!

    and that was a warning bite.

    While this dog is a hazard, and the owner even more so, if the chick spent minutes staving off a pitbull, and didn’t spend a couple days in the hospital, then I think the dog was “just” harassing.

    I’m not saying it’s the woman and childs fault, it’s DEFINATELY the owners, and the trainers fault for not appropriately training a clearly trained dog, and an incompletely trained security pet is more dangerous than a fighting dog.

    Both of her arms are completely covered in gauze after being operated on following the attack.
    She has 50 staples, countless stitches, and has lost feeling in her fingers.

    She’s home from work indefinitely.

  3. remember, it’s a Pit bull.
    I mean she’s lucky the dog wasn’t on full attack, it it was full attack, and she wasn’t a very large woman? she would be dead, and if she was a very large woman, she could BARELY fight off a pitt, absent a deliberation to kill the dog.

    Yes, “just” harassing, thats how dangerous fighting dogs are.

    It’s fucked up isn’t it? Fighting dogs are that badass, you have to face them as a fight for life and death, and be willing to kill them. If the conflict lasted that long, the dog was “just” harassing.

    Frankly? She did get off lucky, as did her baby.

    This woman fought back, and suffered serious wounds in doing so.

  5. Couple of things. The low life neighbor needs his knees broken and twisted until he gives up the location of the dog. Then break his elbows.

    Find the dog. Beat the fuck out of the people who hid. Kill the dog.

    Then kill the dog’s owner.

    Bite, turn, tackle. Attacking dogs are a very specific thing. I’m not underestimating anything.

    Pit bulls about 2/3 the average weight of your average woman, with aggressive action, will win, and leave the woman in fact, even a man who is almost 3 times his weight (like me) will suffer major injuries.

    If this was an outright attack by the pit, the woman would have suffered even more greatly, and the contractors would have eagerly killed him.

    I’m NOT AT ALL minimizing the efforts of the woman or the heroics of her acts, I’m sure that if the pit was in full attack, she would have done the same, but she wouldn’t have likely survived.

    I think that the owner is irresponsible for letting what seems like a semi-trained attack/security dog loose.

    I have personaly, no shit, killed a doberman that attacked me, out of pure luck when I was a kid. He came at me full bore, and my only choice was kill, And I killed him. A Pit on attack, would leave you only that choice, because thats how pits are.

    I think this was a semi-trained security dog, who was “just” harassing, meaning “get away, get away” to the mother.

    Who knows, maybe, the pit, if it was well trained, MIGHT have been trying to guard the crying baby.

    It was a poorly trained pit, and the owner, was an idiot, and is accountable for letting it out into general action.

  10. WP, the dog wasn’t on his own property…he came barreling into the woman’s garage. Uninvited.

    And he was lunging for the baby first.

    My impression from reading the article is that the baby was content in his mother’s arms until the dog attacked and she placed him (probably un-gently) in the trash can.

    I can’t believe you’re defending this dog.

    I’m saying the woman was fortunate, that the dog was semi-trained, and that the dog was only “semi-trained” means that the owner was completely irresponsible.

  14. An aggressive pit, could take down anyone on the defensive, same with any lab (but labs aren’t all that aggressive)

    My childhood dog was a Great Dane/Boxer mix.

    Kindest creature on the planet when it came to his pack (my family) but if bandit wanted to kill you, he would, no question, but my dog bandit loved humans.

    He was well trained.

    This dog wasn’t.

  15. Not to mention, if that lady was fortunate to have my bandit as a pet, Bandit would have killed the pit, and then hunted down it’s owner.

    My bandit was a BIG FRIGGEN DOG!!

  17. That dog would freakin’ eat me and there wouldn’t be much I could do unless I could draw and fire first (I carry because of what I do and a refusal to be a victim).

    I love dogs, I have two of them, they might lick someone to death but then they’re Golden Retrievers.

    Years ago, while stationed in Holland, a friend’s dog bit a kid when the kid grabbed at the dog’s face. The dog was put down within an hour. Toddlers and unknown dogs are a recipe for tragedy, for the kid and the dog.

  19. I think this was the most amazing thing ever. I think i started to cry. When i was 7 my dad had to fend a dog off of me. I had to go to the hospital but i am fine now. YAY ME!! Love the story though!! 🙂 ^-^
