Desperate Times: Jim Messina Griping In Fundraising Letters That Romney Camp’s June Haul “About What We Raised in April and May Combined”

Jim “Punch back Twice as Hard” Messina

Couldn’t happen to a better bunch of thugs.

I’ve written two or three posts about the desperation coming from the Obama campaign regarding finances. Not only have Crossroads GPS, The Club for Growth and lesser GOP super PAC’s out raised Obama’s super PAC Romney is personally out raising Obama without holding 160 or so fund raisers. This email captures the tone of the campaign’s self pity, fear and desperation.

Romney and the Republicans announced yesterday that they brought in more than $100 million in June. For context, that’s about what we raised in April and May combined. We’re still tallying our own numbers, but his means their gap is getting wider, and if it continues at this pace, it could cost us the election. If everyone who’s been waiting to give pitches in $3 or more today, we can start reversing this trend in just a few hours. Please do your part — make a donation of $3 or more right now. One hundred million is alarming enough, but it doesn’t even include the millions pouring into pro-Romney super PACs — or the fact that, unlike four years ago, it’s perfectly legal for the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson, Karl Rove, and anonymous billionaires to funnel unlimited money into attacking President Obama in critical battleground states.

Read the rest at the link.

Gee, maybe the problem is, the people who work hard for a living, who want to keep their money and the get the government out of their hair, are stampeding away from the “Food Stamp President” and into the arms of Mitt Romney….

So the Obama campaign is depending on the dependency class for small donations,  and well-to-do liberal elites who are still masochistic enough to support this economy destroying FUBAR of a President, although those numbers are surely dwindling. Maybe, just maybe the Obama has bit the hands that feed him a few too many times.

Powerline: Running Scared, Democrats Resort to Hysteria:

Something big happened in Richmond last week—and a couple millionaires and billionaires are hoping you didn’t notice.

The U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed last week that groups like the Koch brothers’ Americans for Prosperity and Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS should have to disclose exactly who’s behind the millions of dollars they’re spending to influence this election.

Messina referred to a case called The Real Truth v. Federal Election Commission, which was decided by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals on June 12. Messina’s description of the case is laughable. It never mentions the Koch brothers, or Americans for Prosperity, or Karl Rove, or Crossroads. It merely upholds a particular FEC regulation in the light of Citizens United, and therefore effects no change whatsoever in the law. Barack Obama and his advisers evidently believe that Obama’s donors are ill-informed, and will swallow the most implausible falsehoods.

This kind of nonsense has become a constant, hysterical theme of the Democrats’ campaigns. Thus, Matt Canter, spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, issued a press release that included a crazed attack on the Koch brothers:

Right wing special interest groups are at it again. This time it’s Americans for Prosperity – a shadowy group funded by Charles and David Koch, two controversial Republican oil tycoons who got rich violating a trade ban by doing business with Iran – who are launching a round of attack ads designed to prop up Republican Senate hopefuls in Missouri, Florida, Montana, Nevada, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

The Democrats have no shame whatsoever. Any smear that comes to hand, they are happy to fabricate or propagate. Koch Industries calmly rebutted Canter’s lie on its KochFacts site:

The comments made by DSCC Spokesperson Matt Canter on June 20 about Koch’s historical business in Iran are inaccurate, disingenuous, and hypocritical. As has been pointed out in the past, including on this site, Democrats in general and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in particular have for years accepted campaign contributions from companies that have done extensive business with Iran. That includes a major Fortune 500 company with longstanding business connections with Iran whose CEO is one of President Obama’s top supporters. A number of Democratic elected officials also are actively accepting contributions from companies doing business with Iran, such as Sen. Jon Tester and Mr. Canter’s former boss, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. Indeed, among the top contributors to Senator Gillibrand are two entities that were fined for violating U.S. sanctions against Iran.

Koch previously explained in detail the limited business that a foreign subsidiary of Koch did many years ago in Iran. This has been corroborated by multiple media outlets. The DSCC’s statement that Charles and David Koch “got rich violating a trade ban by doing business with Iran” is patently false. As previously explained, the foreign subsidiary at issue had in place protocols to ensure compliance with U.S. law concerning Iranian sanctions, and neither the thoroughly discredited Bloomberg Markets article nor the follow-up story by ABC News ever pointed to any violation of U.S. law. In fact, Bloomberg Markets conceded that it was not claiming Koch violated U.S. sanctions.

Why does the MSM let Obama get away with so many lies?

John Nolte at Big Journalism has some thoughts:

Sure, the media will defend itself by stating it reported on these falsehoods. But dutiful reporting and holding the President accountable are two entirely different things.

As recently as yesterday, this President ran around the country brazenly spouting things that are objectively untrue and, as it has always done in the past, the corrupt media adamantly refuses to make Obama pay any kind of political price for misleading the American people and distorting what is known to be true.

First off, the media knows Obama will have to lie — will have to portray himself and his past and his record and his opponent’s record as something it is not in order to win reelection.

Secondly, as we’ve seen with Politico and Washington Post, the media sees its job as aiding and abetting and covering up this President’s lies.

Back in November, Romney ran this ad and the media EXPLODED for an entire week claiming Romney had taken Obama out of context. The media didn’t just explode, it went insane over this and was obviously grabbing hold of the lamest of excuses to help Obama define Romney as dishonest.

Meanwhile, Obama runs around the country a proven liar about his own biography, Romney’s record at Bain Capital, and his own record, and what do his Media Palace Guards do?

They just keep guarding his palace.

Saturday Movie Matinee: Excuses Excuses

Via The Washington Post:

An outside group targeting President Obama is already out with a new ad highlighting June’s weak jobs report.

Crossroads GPS, a 501(c)(4) organization advised by former Republican strategist Karl Rove, is going on the air with a $25 million campaign focused on the national debt and the jobs market. The first ad, “Excuses,” will focus on Friday’s disappointing jobs numbers.

More jobs were snuffed out Friday as Obama signed the federal transportation bill,  putting operators of roll-your-own cigarette operations across the nation out of business at midnight.

Robert Weissen, with his brothers and other partners, own nine Sin City Cigarette Factory locations in Southern Nevada, including six in Las Vegas, and one in Hawaii. He said when the bill is signed their only choice is to turn off their 20 RYO Filling Station machines and lay off more than 40 employees.

“The man who pushed for this bill is Sen. (Max) Baucus from Montana, and he received donations from Altria, a parent company of Philip Morris. Interestingly enough, there are also no RYO machines in the state of Montana. It really makes me question the morals and values of our elected speakers.”

The brilliant Ann McElhinney likes to say that all across Africa and India, there are women who spend their entire lives doing laundry.  She says, “the pill didn’t liberate women,  washing machines did.”  How much will Obama’s windmills and solar panels liberate African women from their daily drudgery?

Conservatives ran out of patience a long time ago with the “I inherited a bad economy” excuse, but it’s not just conservatives who find themselves tired of Obama’s pat response.  Robert Reich scolded Obama yesterday on the pages of the Huffington Post, writing that the excuse is “wearing thin” and that this is Obama’s economy…
