Krauthammer On Michelle Obama’s Speech: “I Didn’t Buy a Line of It”

Charles Krauthammer said what most of us on the right were thinking about Michelle Obama’s overly saccharine speech, Tuesday night.

Video via Gateway Pundit:

Rich Lowery put it very succinctly at NRO’s, The Corner:

The first half of the speech could have been given by a conservative–all about the importance of personal responsibility and hard work–and the rest, about President Obama’s record, was inevitably more tendentious.

The Democrats’ key rhetorical trick is movingly evoking family and community, then saying we’re all in it together and therefore absolutely every government program is necessary and should be expanded.

Exactly right.

Never forget El Rushbo’s maxim; “Democrats wake up every day and ask themselves, “how can we fool them, today?”

Via Sooper Mexican, here’s a word cloud of her speech:

The cultish  emphasis on Obama was in all of the speeches, tonight, unlike the RNC speeches, which referred more to specific  issues and political philosophy, than Mitt Romney, himself.

See El Sooper for a word cloud of Ann Romney’s speech, The contrast is truly stunning.

Here’s his previous word cloud comparison: the 2012 Democrat and Republican Platforms.

A must read fact check of Michelle Obama’s speech by Karen McQuillan at The American Thinker:

What was most interesting was that her speech had obviously been reworked rapidly in the last week.  It was a weird, copycat complement to Republicans.  It’s like an unsure competitor looking to see what the champion is doing, and quickly trying to mimic it.  “Oh, you talked a lot about the American Dream and that resonated with the public — watch me, I can do it, too.”  She even cribbed lines and phrases from the Romneys.  The trouble is that the pretend principles did not match who the Obamas actually are.  It was the perfect ersatz speech from the wife of our Faker in Chief.

It seemed to me that the Dems have been polling the impact of Dinesh D’Souza’s important film, 2016: Obama’s America and feel they have to counter it.  Although all the experts keep telling us we mustn’t say anything negative about Obama because the public won’t believe it and won’t like it, Obama does not share their confidence.

Michelle’s whopper of the night was a direct lie to counter the impact of 2016:

And as I got to know Barack, I realized that even though he’d grown up all the way across the country, he’d been brought up just like me. … But when Barack started telling me about his family – that’s when I knew I had found a kindred spirit, someone whose values and upbringing were so much like mine.  You see, Barack and I were both raised by families who didn’t have much in the way of money or material possessions but who had given us something far more valuable – their unconditional love, their unflinching sacrifice and the chance to go places they had never imagined for themselves.

Michelle’s Lie One: “even though he’d grown up all the way across the country.”

Barack didn’t grow up all the way across the country.  He grew up in Indonesia.  One of most the powerful parts of 2016 is the visual impact of seeing what Indonesia looks like, to realize this is the place where Obama spent his most formative childhood years.  It is not America.

Read it all. There’s no doubt in my mind that the speech was larded up with saccharine BS to combat the unpalatable  biographical information about Obama that is finally becoming more widely known.

Perfect… DNC Opens With This: “The Government Is The Only Thing We All Belong To” (Video)

Democrats are trying desperately to have a gaffe-free conference, so how did this egregious soundbite make it into their opening video?:

Hey there, Obamacrats? I don’t know about you, but I don’t “belong” to the government. The government belongs to the people.

Or as America’s greatest living actor recently put it: “We own this country. “

I would just like to say something, ladies and gentlemen. Something that I think is very important. It is that, you, we — we own this country.
(APPLAUSE)

We — we own it. It is not you owning it, and not politicians owning it. Politicians are employees of ours.
(APPLAUSE)

And — so — they are just going to come around and beg for votes every few years. It is the same old deal. But I just think it is important that you realize , that you’re the best in the world. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican or whether you’re libertarian or whatever, you are the best. And we should not ever forget that. And when somebody does not do the job, we got to let them go.

What a contrast. Never before has the difference in the two parties been so stark.

UPDATE:

Jim Geraghty thanks Democrats for kicking off their national convention with a statement that will be featured in Republican ads for weeks to come and wonders…

A poorly-written bit of narration for some standard-issue filler convention video? Or a revealing moment of their core philosophy?

If it is merely a poorly-expressed comment, that creates a false impression, it is rather amazing how often these things happen to the Democrats: “You didn’t build that.” “The private sector is doing fine.” “Our plan worked.”

Tellingly, Davis himself, in an eerily Obama-like sentiment, had emphasized the need for “fundamental change” in America — advocating exactly that in his kick-off column for the Chicago Staron July 6, 1946.  Well, with the Democrats and with Barack Obama, he has gotten just that.  Frank Marshall Davis’s presence will be there at the Democrats’ convention this week.

A couple of headlines swiped from Weasel Zippers that provide some helpful insight into what a Godless Obomanation the Obamacrat party has become…

Democrats Remove All References To “God” From Party Platform…

Who needs God when you have Chicago Jesus?

Via The Blaze:

The Democratic Party may be getting a fair amount of attention this week — and not only because the political movement is hosting its national convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Another point of focus has already been the contents — or the lack thereof — present in the 2012 Democratic Party Platform.

Earlier today, we told you that the document fails to mention Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a proclamation that was previously touted by the party. And now, in an even more shocking revelation, CBN News is reporting that the Democrats have removed mentions of “God” from the document as well.

Most “Open and Accessible” Convention in History Requires Photo IDs and Quashes Conservative Media Access

Image via The Looking Spoon

The the D ‘n C convention, being held this week in Charlotte, NC,  is going to be the most  open and accessible convention in human history, the always charming DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz told Fox’s Megyn Kelly, yesterday.

Via Ben Howe, Red State:

“Very different than the special interest funded, corporate-infused, invitation-only affair that we saw in my home state last week.” There are some things that make you wish you were a reporter. I would have followed up to her absurd comparison with a few pointed questions. Such as “Oh, so you mean the convention is open to the public?” “So there won’t be any invitation-only events during the entire convention?” But naturally, we know the answer to those questions. Of course it’s not open to the public. Of course there will be invitation-only events.

Couple things…

The Washington Times also reports that the convention is “Open, perhaps. Accessible, it is not.”

The Blaze points out that the Dems seem to have no problem with ID requirements:

The stringent ID rules for journalists at the Democrat Party‘s convention seem a bit odd considering the party’s broad, alarmist stance on voter ID laws. The ID laws have drawn harsh criticism from the liberal establishment, including Vice President Joe Biden who has called the practice “voter suppression” and MSNBC hosts who’ve called the laws “racist” and “a GOP conspiracy.” But for some reason, ID rules aren’t racist when it comes to security at the Democrat National Convention.

No, no, no no, no – say it isn’t so! Asking for ID is racist – someone on Twitter told me! And a DNC delegate said today, that  Voter ID Laws Are Akin To “Rape”…

And of course, there is the “menu” of perks and access that are available to those who have the cash to buy it.

A list of high-end convention packages circulated by the Charlotte in 2012 Convention Host Committee, and obtained by ABC News, shows that those and other perks are being offered to donors who raise $1 million or donate $100,000 to the convention’s nonprofit planning arm.

And via Ben Shapiro of Big Journalism, we find that that the accessibility factor is further reduced if you happen to come from a conservative news outfit:

Media availability for Obama officials and acolytes has been shut up as tight as a clam for conservative media here at the Democratic National Convention. According to sources at Talk Radio News Service, placing a stringer outside the designated TV area to ask high-level Democrats to stop by radio row has been banned by the DNC – in fact, as one source told me, “You need permission from Obama for America.”

This is not the behavior of a confident party. It’s the behavior of a party that is afraid of being asked a tough question it cannot answer even with willing accomplices like The Center of Economic and Policy Research trying so hard to throw them a lifeline.

Da TechGuy reports:

The Center of Economic and Policy Research decided certain questions are signs on incompetence namely: “Are you better off than you were four years ago?”

While the source is not clear, someone developed a simple way to identify incompetent news reporters. If you hear a reporter ask people in President Obama’s administration, ideally in a belligerent tone, “are the American people better off than they were four years ago?,”the reporter is trying to tell you that they are not qualified to do their job.

The reason we know that the questioners are incompetent reporters is that this is a pointless question.

I can certainly understand the problem, considering this from the Hill today:

A majority of voters believe the country is worse off today than it was four years ago and that President Obama does not deserve reelection, according to a new poll for The Hill.

They will put on a big show this week – with what  funds were  left for them….

I have not yet gotten my hands on the list of names that Penny Pritzker’s working to raise the cash for the Obama’s post-presidential home, but the financial troubles the Democrats have had with their Charlotte Convention are in large part because all the money that would have normally gone to something like this, or to the Obama re-election campaign, is instead being directed to the “Prevent the Obamas’ Homelessness in 2013 Fund” or to the Obama Presidential Library (being built in Honolulu) capital campaign; these two are more or less the same project at this point, because the funds for the new Obama Hawaiian estate are needed immediately while the Library can wait a few years for construction.  No doubt Pritzker is channeling any donations she collects into a trust that can be used for either the mansion’s purchase or the Presidential Library when it gets under way later in 2013.

But the fact remains….They are Demoralized as Hell…
